A new year at Auradon Prep was just beginning. I opened my bag to check for all the essential books. Yep. All there. I was really looking forward to a new year. I am Sunset Shimmer and I am 16 years old. I was at Canterlot High with my best friends but then the school caught fire and we had to leave. Now we are off to Auradon Prep, in the United States of Auradon, with some new kids we don’t know yet. My eyes widened as the limo swept up the drive, kids waving. I smiled. There was a good chance. Another limo drew up behind us. We got out, I held my hand out to Flash Sentry. We’ve been best friends since I came to the human world. I left Equestria at 16. But I came out into the human world at 3 years old. I met Flash at the orphanage. He’s an orphan. We saw 4 rough looking kids get out of the limo behind us. A handsome boy with blonde hair and blue eyes stepped forward. “It’s great to finally meet you all!” he cried. “My name’s Ben, and this is my girlfriend, Audrey.”
“Sleeping Beauty’s daughter,” said Audrey, with a smile. She frowned when her eyes rested on the purple haired girl. “I totally don’t blame your mom for putting my mom to sleep.”
The purple haired girl retorted, “Well I totally don’t blame your grandparents for not inviting my mom to the christening.”
The 2 girls faked sighed. Ben shot Audrey a look that said Shut up! . Ben smiled. “So what’s your names?”
I stepped forward. “My name’s Sunset Shimmer. This is Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry.”
“Mal. Maleficent’s daughter.” said the purple haired girl. “And that’s Carlos, Cruella’s son, Jay, Jafar’s son and Evie, Evil Queen’s daughter.”
Ben shook our hands. “Nice to meet you all. Now, if you follow me, we’ll take you around.”
“Hey, Doug!” called Ben.
The boy called Doug came down the stairs. “This is Doug, guys. He’s in charge of your schedules. Just let him know what subjects you wanna do. See ya later!”
We glanced at each other excitedly. “I’m so looking forward to this,” said Rarity. “This is so CHS.”

Sports was the next lesson. “Hey, Jay!” Called Carlos. “I’m ready for Tourney!”
Carlos and Ben were practising. A yellow-orange dog bounded up to Carlos, chasing him. Carlos screamed and ran straight into the forest. Ben glanced at Flash and Sunset before racing off to find him.
Carlos was up a tree, clinging on for dear life. “That Dog, my mom said that - that they are rabid pack animals!”
Ben smirked. “Oh, dude.” Turning to Carlos, he said, “C’me on. Have you ever even met a dog? Dude, this is Carlos. Carlos, this is the campus mutt, Dude.”
“Sure.” said Ben. “You can find your way back? I’m meeting Sunset and Flash and Applejack for a game of Tennis. See ya!”
Dude nuzzled against Carlos. Carlos gently stroked the dog.

I slid into the stands with Rarity and Evie, watching Ben, Carlos, Jay, Chad and Flash and the rest of the team play tourney.
But then, Ben started to sing, sing some song for Mal.
“Give me a M!”
“M!”
Give me an A!”
“A!”
“Give me an L!”
“L!”
What does that spell? MAL!”
Ben burst into song, an embarrassing love song about Mal. I giggled with Evie and Rarity as Ben chucked his sweaty shirt at her. Ben held his hand out to her, as if in love. Audrey snarled, and walked off.
Minutes later, I saw her with Chad, Cinderella’s son, and they were chatting happily.

“Sunset, wait!” shouted Flash.
“Yeah?” I said, arching an eyebrow.
He sighed. “Look. Meet me at the place where Ben and Mal met for the first time. We’ll be there.”
I looked at him sceptically. Just what did my ex have up his sleeve now?

I met Ben, Mal and Flash at the required place. I realised what Flash was up to. He wanted to take me on a date.
We headed to the enchanted lake, where Ben dived straight in(obviously washing off all enchantment).
I really like Flash. But I don’t know if he knows...
A million thoughts In my head Will I let my heart keep listening?
Cause up til now I’ve walked the line But something’s lost And something’s missing...
I sighed, not wanting to attract Flash’s attention.
I grabbed Mal, Ben on the other side, swimming back towards the shore.
Mal didn’t know, but I knew, that the lake washed off all enchantment.
Flash looked at me admiringly, lovingly. The first time I ever saw him look at me in that way. Does he love me?
Or does he not?

I walked onto the lawn, giggling with Flash Sentry. “Hey, Sunset!” he cried. “Look at that, isn’t that Rainbow’s parents!”
So it was. Rainbow came up to us. “Hide me!” she yelled. “My parents are going to embarrasse me!”
I sighed. I stood in front of Dash.
After about an hour, Rainbow’s parents left. I wiped the sweat off my forehead.
Now we had fittings for Ben’s coronation.

I watched Ben get crowned King of Auradon. I also saw Jane messing about with Fairy Godmother’s wand, trying to spell her hair. Instead, she opened the barrier, letting in Maleficent. I gasped, seeing her for the first time, she was terrifying.
I knew I had to do something, to protect my new friends, Flash and my friends. They were counting on me.
Maleficent froze all the Auradoners, so only the Rainbooms, me, Flash and the VKs were left.
Now it was time for me to shine.

I rose in the air, feeling the demon that slept inside me finally bursting free. I felt the dark wings grow out of my back, the sclera in my eyes turn black, the orange part of my hair turn red, the yellow part turn golder. Demon Shimmer had ignited inside me, my powers returning for good. But I was still me, Sunset Shimmer, on the inside.
I faced against her, watching her turn into a scary dragon, chasing Jay. Rainbow grabbed him, taking him to one side. I jumped forward, we were duelling, she breathing fire at me, me shooting balls of powerful magic straight back at her.
Friendship is magic.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos working together. And my friends working together. I shot a ball of magic at Maleficent, turning her into a tiny lizard. Also breaking the spell the Auradoners were under. I turned back into a human.
Ben roared, hugging Mal, thinking Maleficent was still there.
I giggled, before groaning.
Maleficent’s fire busted my left ribs.
“Sunset, wait!” shouted Flash.
I turned. “Sunset.” he said. “I’ve been wanting to tell you that...”
“I love you.” we said in unison.
I don’t think I realised he was in love with me, I certainly didn’t.
But you never know, may be next time, we’ll have better adventures.

We got to our dorms. “Wow!” said Evie. “This looks so amaz-”
“Gross.” said Mal.
“Yeah, amazingly gross,” agreed Evie cheerfully.
“Oh my!” cried Rarity. “This is amazing!”
“I know right?” asked Evie, coming over to Rarity. “Evie. You are...”
“Rarity,” said Rarity. “It’s so pretty!”
I chuckled as Rarity slipped her white arm under Evie’s arm, as they nattered about fashion and the dorm.
“Hey,” said Mal, looking up from the bed. “I’m Mal. Leader of the Villain Kids.”
“Name’s Sunset Shimmer,” I said. “Leader of the Equestria Girls and backing singer and guitarist for the Sonic Rainbooms. What do you think of the dorm?”
“Gross,” said Mal. “Too girly for me. Seems like Evie’s got a buddy.”
“Rarity,” I said helpfully. “The fashion Queen of the group and the drama queen.”
“Evie’s the same,” sighed Mal. “She’s a great friend, though.”
I laughed.
“Hey, Sunset? Mind if I tag along sometimes?” asked Mal.
“Um, sure. But You may have to ask Rainbow Dash. She’s the leader of the Sonic Rainbooms.”
As I put on the crown, I was lifted up into the sky into a white void. I felt pain, as the dark magic ate at my heart. When the pain had stopped, the void disappeared and I was in the sky, my bat-like wings finally finding freedom. I cackled, as I saw the mane 6 down below. I summoned the magic, turning Snips and Snails into demons too. I then destroyed the front of the school and turned everyone inside into zombies-
“NO!” I cried. I sat up in bed. I took a sip of water to help me relax.
“Sunset!” cried Rainbow Dash. “Shut up!”
“Sorry. I had another nightmare,” I whispered.
“You what?!” shouted Flash, running in. “Jay and Carlos have gone from their beds. I see Mal and Evie have gone too.”
I swung my legs around to climb out of bed. “Wait, what? Mal!”
“We have to find them,” said Fluttershy. “Rainbow, you’re the fastest, we need you to find them. I’ll call the birds to guide you.” Fluttershy whistled. “They said they’ve gone to the museum.”
“We can’t!” cried Applejack. “We just can’t! We’ll be in so much trouble! Let them.”
“She’s right,” said Pinkie Pie. “We let them come.”
“But are you okay?” asked Flash, to me.
“Still shaky,” I replied. “But I’m fine. Flash, I promise.”
Flash smiled, as he shut the door behind and went back to his own room.
