I Don't Want a Lot for Hearth's Warming
Rainbow Dash sat on her couch, lazily reading a random book she had picked out, though she barely paid attention to it. It was Hearth's Warming Eve, and snow was falling down rapidly outside. The Hearth's Warming tree was up and had beautiful lighats shining on it, lighting up the entire house in a beautiful red, white, and green aura. Luna, her marefriend, had gone out to buy some more groceries, and once she got back the two would have plenty of time to spend together for this wonderful Holiday. Rainbow had offered to go along, but Luna had shunned her offer. Luna had been acting pretty sad lately and even tended to avoid discussing Hearth's Warming with Rainbow...
Rainbow herself was paranoid. This year she was unable to get Luna a Hearth's Warming gift. The guilt ate her up. Being unable to get a Hearth's Warming gift for her marefriend on their first Hearth's Warming together was not a pleasant feeling to deal with, nor would it make her look good. What would she tell Luna? Would Luna break up with her? One thought kept repeating inside her mind. Kept bothering her. You're a terrible marefriend, Dash.
She barely paid attention to the book she was reading, and even began slightly dozing off. However, she was fully awoken by her front door opening. Luna was home.
"I'm home, Dashie!" Luna called out in a sweet and singsong voice. Rainbow could pick up a bit of nervousness in Luna's voice, however.
Rainbow slightly perked up and looked through the living room at the front door. Luna was bundled up warmly in clothes, but still absolutely covered in snow from the fierce snowstorm.
"O-oh, hey Luna," Rainbow replied, not even trying to remotely hide her sadness. She very quickly mentally facehoofed for doing this, however.
"Oh," began Luna as she tilted her head slightly, "is something wrong, Dashie?"
Rainbow just realized she did not yet have the bravery to tell Luna the truth, so she instead decided to delay the inevitable. As if that would help any.
"N-nothing important, you can just go ahead and undress, put the groceries away, and make us some hot chocolate. Unless you want me to, that is, I wouldn't mind," Rainbow responded.
"Nah, I will, you can just...relax," Luna said, holding back a sigh at the end. She was thinking about how she had failed in all of her attempts to get Rainbow a Hearth's Warming gift, and was unsure how to break the news to Rainbow. It felt easier to delay the inevitable than to tell Rainbow, even though it helped nothing.
Luna quickly undressed and embraced the warmth of Rainbow's house. Upsetting thoughts crept into her head, however. Might be the last time to enjoy this if she breaks up with you.
It was a rather quick endeavor to put away all the groceries, even though Luna had somewhat prayed in her sister's name that it would take her longer, just so she could delay telling Rainbow the bad news. She prepared the hot chocolate, making it as good as she could, hoping that would help things somehow. Her heart thumped as she used her magic to carry the tray with two cups of hot chocolate to the couch, where Rainbow sat tensely.
"Dashie, is something wrong?" Luna asked with a concerned tone.
Dash's emotions all flew through her instantly, and she only could only think of one thing to say. So she blurted it out suddenly.
"Please don't break up with me!" Rainbow cried out as she fiercely hugged Luna.
Luna obviously didn't know quite what was happening or how to respond, but she tried her best to respond to the situation at hoof.
"Come on Dashie, you surely didn't do anything that bad. You'd never do something so bad to make me break up with you," she said, holding Rainbow in her wing as a hug of sorts. Rainbow really was precious to her. She didn't want to lose her.
"B-but I did," Rainbow whimpered.
"Well, I know you didn't cheat on me, Ms. Element of Loyalty, so I can't possibly see what you could have done that would warrant me breaking up with you," Luna said gently, with a hint of playfulness mixed in.
Rainbow didn't even know how to respond, so she put it bluntly.
"Luna, I-I...couldn't get you a Hearth's Warming gift," Rainbow said meekly.
Luna began to respond, but Rainbow cut her off.
"I know what you're gonna say. What's the use of a marefriend who can't even get a Hearth's Warming gift? You'd probably be better off if you dumped me, Luna," Rainbow said, beginning to cry.
Luna looked at her crying marefriend and hugged her harder.
"Dashie, I didn't...wasn't going to say that...and I couldn't get you a Hearth's Warming gift either," Luna responded, slightly tearing up and hiccuping.
"R-really?" asked Rainbow.
Luna nodded her head and slightly smiled, seeing Rainbow was now slightly comforted by this fact.
"So if that's a reason to break up, which one is gonna do it first?" Luna teased.
"Not me," responded Rainbow.
"Not me either," Luna replied.
"Luna, I...I think you yourself are all I really want or need for Hearth's Warming. I don't need any gifts, candies, anything, just you," Rainbow said softly.
Luna playfully pushed Rainbow to the other side of the couch.
"Hey! Why'd 'ya do that?" she asked right before Luna glomped her.
"Look above you, silly filly," Luna said with a laugh and a smile.
Rainbow looked above her to see Luna had pushed her under some mistletoe Luna had secretly put in place with her magic.
"Luna, y'know I don't mind snuggles and stuff, but you also know I don't like kisses all that well," Rainbow grumbled, slightly playfully.
"Pretty please? It's Hearth's Warming, and this would be the perfect gift to me," Luna pleaded with pleading eyes.
"Luna, did you have to guilt me?" Rainbow grumbled.
Rainbow was now lying on her back with Luna close to her, the two currently embraced in a warm snuggle.
"Of course I did, silly, it was the only way to get a kiss out of you!" Luna teased.
"Alright, fine, one kiss," Rainbow replied.
Luna wasted no time in planting a nice kiss on Rainbow's lips, which Rainbow happily accepted, although with a blush.
They, after a few seconds, let go of the kiss. Both their cheeks were red, and they both giggled a bit.
Luna used her magic to bring a blue blanket with cloud patterns on it over to them.
"I think we should sleep here," Luna said with a smile.
"Same," replied Rainbow.
The two kept their warm snuggle intact, and began to doze off.
"G-goodnight, Luna," Rainbow said sleepily.
"Goodnight, Dashie, happy Hearth's Warming," Luna replied back.
"Happy Hearth's Warming," Dashie said.
