Antithesis
Chapter 2.
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Alright class lets start" Lareow said as she stood "The Pegasus weather schedule has for plenty of snow tonight, so school has been canceled for tomorrow".
Ponies began highhoofing each other, while Astra copied Antithesis' homework from the night before. Thees kept an eye on his teacher so they wouldn't get caught. However Lareow caught a glimpse of the grey pony writing something down. Thees kicked Astra's chair to warn him.
"Mr. Remex! Care to explain what you are doing?" she questioned.
"Who me? I was just uh.. writing the date." he stammered.
"Oh really?" She accused one eyebrow raised.
Lareow began to reach for the paper on the desk that was hiding Thees' below it, when the sky blue mare to their right tapped Lareow's shoulder. "Ms. actually he did just ask me what the date was." she assured with a smile.
"Alright, if that's the case." Lareow responded, looking at the mare for a few moments before turning around to return to her desk. "Ahem, anyway" she went on.
Astra mouthed thankyou at the mare, but she offered no response just a quick wink before facing forward once more. It took him by surprise that some mare he had never noticed had just bailed him out, though he was broken out of his trance by Thees who was asking for his paper back. Shaking his head a little with a smirk.\
"Today we will do history all day and make up math when you return on Monday." Lareow announced. "Today we will cover the similarities between ponies. Tell me does anybody know any already?"
A Couple ponies gave answers like hooves, manes, and tails. But then Lareow began calling on those who didn't have their hands raised.
"Antithesis! could you give an example." she called out.
"Uhhh...." the pony combed his mind looking for an answer landing on one that was as common as tails or manes. "Cutie Marks" he blurted.
"Good job, that's the first similarity." the teacher noted, putting up a poster on the easel. "Long before the founding of Equestria it was believed that only the unicorns had them. As the three tribes began to merge, it wasn't long before the earth ponies and Pegasi noticed they too had cutie marks."
"Does that mean we all have magic?" somepony asked.
"Yes and no" she answered "It's true that cutie marks are magic, though only unicorns can really use it".
"Anypony know the second one?" Lareow asked, after giving it a moment she instructed the class. "Every one pick up your pencils with your hoof."
The class did as instructed raising their pencils then letting them go, well everyone except Astra who was staring outside. Lareow gave a sigh and approached him once again. Standing over him she opened her mouth to reprimand him but was interrupted.
"Ya, ya I know ponies are special because we can pick things up without fingers or claws, like Minotaurs or Dragons." Astra said while watching the snowfall.
Lareow narrowed her eye for a minute surprised at his answer. Collecting herself "Uhhh.. that's correct." she muttered. "Much like Cutie Marks, ponies' ability to grip things with hooves are derived from ancient earth ponies' use of Tellus."
Lareow rambled on and on until eventually it was time for everyponies' favorite Lunch time. Thees and Astra rushed to be the first ones out of the classroom.
"I freegen hate those lessons! she always singles me out." Astra exclaimed.
"You... were staring out the window." Thees replied while turning right down another hallway.
"Ya so what" Astra scoffed. "You don't have to look at somepony to hear what they are saying".
"Well I'm sure she'll think twice before calling on you again" Thees said with a laugh.
"She better." Astra agreed, opening the doors to the cafeteria.
The two sat waiting for the lunch mare to open the lunch line. Thees looked over at the chalkboard to see what was written for today's lunch. It was fresh lily salad with croutons and rice pudding.
"Come and get it" the lunch mare called to the cafeteria. A wave of ponies rushed into line, while Astra was thrown side to side but found safety next to his friend, no one running into Antithesis being that he was much larger than them.
The two waited for a few minutes in line eventually making their way to the front of the line. Astra brought his tray up ready for a tasty treat. Pushing his tray forward the lunch mare had put an assortment of greens on his tray topped with lilies. She nudged the tray back to him and called for the next pony.
"What about the pudding? Astra asked, frowning.
"All out. Tell ya what have this." she said passing him an apple. "Fresh from Sweet Apple Acres."
He scoffed at this but took his tray to his usual seat. Approaching he saw Thees sitting there with a familiar yellow pony sighing as he sat down.
"Bad day huh?" Shure asked noticing the drooped ears.
"You have no idea," Astra replied.
"Worse than math all day?" Shure quipped.
"Well, no that bad." Astra said looking down at Shure's tray he saw the gooey goodness that was pudding.
The trio dug into their meals like there were no tomorrow. As Thees finished his salad first he looked up at Astra who was rolling his apple around. He tapped on the table catching the Pegasus' attention then proceeded to bite his own apple "This is pretty darn good.".
"It's just an apple," Astra murmured biting off a mouthful, while doing so all his frustrations faded into a satisfied "Mmmm".
The shortened school day came to a close Astra, Shure, and Thees met in the hallway like usual. All of them walked outside feeling the crisp cool air and nearly blinded by the light reflecting off the white snow.
"I guess I'll see you guys later then" Shure said.
"Yea, see you later." Astra replied, while walking towards a gray blue stallion.
"See ya later" Antithesis repeated offering nod before making his way to his mother.
Getting home Antithesis started on some math homework given for the extended weekend while Taupe began on dinner. He had gotten about mid way through before falling asleep at the table. Gently waking him, Taupe offered a glass of hot chocolate, Antithesis sipped away while Taupe looked over his work.
"Now it's been a while but I think number four and seven are wrong," Taupe said, sliding the papers towards him.
"No. That's right" Antithesis responded, looking up at his mother.
Pointing to a line in his shown work she asked, "Where did the negative go?"
"Oh" he said embarrassed.
Erasing out his frequent mistake he redid a few problems he did the same to. After finishing his work Antithesis went to lock the doors for the night, while Taupe threw another piece of wood on to the hearth to burn for the night.
Antithesis went to his room for the night, dropping his bag at the base of his bed. He plopped himself on his bed turning right to look out his window to a familiar night sky watching the clouds drift by the moon before falling asleep for the night.
Author's Note
I had another chapter lined up but I felt the story would move too quickly so I cranked this one out.
This series is just a warm up, before I work on Antithesis' adulthood.
Thx again for everyone who reads.\
