Author's Note
if I color any text light grey, it's just the thoughts the narrator is thinking about. most of the story is being said out loud, anyway.
Chapter 1: The creature
It's just another boring day in Griffonstone, while Gabby puts the mail on people's doormats; most don't care to afford mailboxes since most of their money is hoarded, and never to be used. man, these griffon folks are rude. ruuude, i tell you! It's a somewhat tedious process, considering the residents just take the mail from her, and slam the door shut, with little to no signs of remorse. I might be hard on them, but let's set our focus to Gabby, who gently passed the scroll to the final address. Now the work was done and it was time for Gabby to go home and report to old man, Grampa Gruff. Along her way, walking the wrecked town, she saw what she didn't expect... It was a creature, with the top half of a human, well, Gabby didn't know what a human was, and the bottom of an eagle, or what she presumed was an eagle. Its legs were twisted like that of a four legged animal. Gabby, surprised to see a strange creature thought of one thing: she had to consult the Cutie Mark Crusaders, that maybe they'll know what to do.
"They should be in the clubhouse, planning some wonderful and brilliant plan!"
she thought. before she took off, she stopped, and looked at the creature.
"Oh, right. You're coming with me."
The creature looked back at the smiling griffon, but can only be puzzled by what the meaning of life is.
"Let's go! I'll lead the way."
Then it flew up. Gabby concluded that maybe this thing could understand her, and so, Gabby took off as the creature followed. Those were a few minutes of flying, when Gabby would scan the nature of Equestria and beyond. That was when the stopped, to land in Ponyville. The creature landed beside her, ever to be looked at in shock by the citizens of the town. Gabby finally reached the clubhouse, then knocked on the door. No answer. This went on for about 17 seconds before she looked into one of the windows.
"They're not here."
she exclaimed, the next thing she had in mind was Spike. He lived with Twilight, so she knew she will find him in the Castle doing chores, And so she did. She and that creature walked to Twilight's castle where she and spike should be. After two small knocks, Gabby was greeted by spike, who looked a bit tired, but overall happy to see her.
"Hi Gabby! What brings you here?"
Then, Gabby walked to the side, revealing the creature behind her. Spike could only feel shocked, yet confused.
"Uh... What's that?"
"I dunno, that's why I came here. Maybe Twilight has a book about that!"
"Oh please, Twilight has a book about everything."
Then the three walk into the castle halls, while Spike leads Gabby to one of the castle's many libraries, where Twilight was reorganizing her bookshelves. Twilight Lands back on the cold and smooth floor of her home, and looks at the three.
"Oh, there you are, Spike! I see you've brought us some... Guests."
Then Gabby Introduces Twilight to the creature. Twilight also shows a similar reaction to everyone else who saw it. In a swift swing, She flies over back to the shelves, while eyeing Section M. Twilight's horn glows to charge energy, levitating the books to search for the correct one.
"No, Not That one, Eighties Mixtape? Why is that here? No, no..."
"Twilight! Mythological Creatures and More! I found i-"
Twilight Quickly Grabs the book from Spike, Who Bumps into the bookshelf, and falls off the ladder.
"There we go! Chapter 2, Section H, Paragraph 13..."
Spike, Gabby and the creature watch as Twilight clears her throat.
"This is a Harpy. Harpy, Harpy means 'Snatcher' or 'Swift Robber'. Harpies are creatures with the top half of a human female, and bottom of a bird, like an eagle. They're wind spirits. Harpies can be depicted as cruel and ugly monsters, but really, they're just hungry. When you eat, harpies will come to eat with you, and punish evildoers by taking them to the Erinyes. Especially those who kill their families."
And hearing these words from the book, Gabby almost teared up.
"Y-You mean... It's all alone in Equestria...? Without a family, and friends...?"
"I can't say for certain, I admit, I've never seen any harpies before. I wasn't even sure they existed."
Twilight closes the book and puts it back in the shelf.
well, that's rather dark, don'tcha think?
"Whichever reason the harpy came here, it must be important to her. you think you can figure out what bothers her?"
Gabriella nods in agreement.
The Harpy Nodded along with her.
"You really do understand, huh?"
Then it nodded again. That was a start of a new friendship.
Gabby felt so happy to befriend a legendary being that was now confirmed real. It was the first harpy she ever knew. I wonder what happens next? Maybe the CMC would pitch in for some time, But I'm just a Narrator. What do I know? Anyways, moving on. Gabby's purpose in life was to be a helper. As the first griffon member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, it was her duty to help others find their purpose.
"Well, as a member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders myself, I suppose it's my job. You do happen to know where the world famous Cutie Mark Crusaders are, do you?"
Spike and Twilight exchange looks, then spike looks at Gabby.
"Oh! I just remembered, They were gonna spend the night with Fluttershy."
"oOoOoh, So that's why they weren't in the clubhouse."
Gabby waves goodbye and flies out of a window in the top right corner of the roof near the bookshelf with section G-J. Spike goes back to pick up the books that fell. Then he asks Twilight a question.
"uh... Twilight?"
"Yes?"
"What's an Erinyes? I mean, Gabby could've just walked out the front door."
Twilight rolls her eyes and searches for a book that could have an answer.
Then we find ourselves back to Gabby and the harpy who already reached Fluttershy's cottage.
