Chapter 1: Ebony's Destruction
Author's Note
Welcome to the start of the backstory of my ponysona/draconequussona. I've been wanting to do this for awhile and had this little headcanon in the back of my head for quite some time now. Let me know how you feel about the headcanon of draconequus that I developed. I haven't had much opinions about it and I'm curious if others think it could work potentially in Equestria.
Anyways, there will be more to this story of course. The next few chapters focus more on Flusk now rather than the history between draconequus and ponies. Enjoy!
Oh also, shout out to pizzalord since his OC Drizzle Dots is being used in this fanfic. Check him out! x3
Chapter 1: Ebony's Destruction
“Are you all good here? I’ll just be gone for a little bit. I need to pick up some groceries.” Drizzle said.
“Mhm, I’ll be fine.” Flusk nodded.
The blue unicorn, Drizzle Dots levitated his wallet to himself off the table before trotting towards the door. Upon doing so, a white and brown husky with bright blue eyes came running down from the corner of the room and began running around Drizzle, wagging her long fluffy tail in excitement.
“Hi, Luna! Awww, who’s a good doggy!”
The excited husky rolled over onto her back as Drizzle rubbed her belly. Luna’s tongue lolled out of her mouth as the dog continued to wag her tail furiously. His dog particularly enjoyed belly rubs and always enjoyed being given affection by her owner. Flusk chuckled a bit behind her hoof as she watched him pet her a little bit longer before stopping.
“Alright, alright, I have to go now. But, I’ll bring home a treat for you!” Drizzle said as he grinned and booped his dog on the nose.
Luna barked and licked her mouth in response. It seemed she understood exactly what he was telling her oddly enough.
Drizzle looked up at Flusk again. “I doubt she’ll do too much while I’m gone but make sure you keep an eye on her. She’s a bit of a troublemaker when she wants to be.”
Flusk nodded and smiled as her friend exited the home, leaving her and Drizzle’s husky alone in silence.
Flusk had been visiting Drizzle for the day to hang out and chat like they normally did on a regular basis. Although, upon looking for snacks for the two to enjoy, the stallion had realized it was his day to go grocery shopping and completely forgot before inviting Flusk over. So now, instead of having a peaceful afternoon with her best friend, she was dog sitting instead. Not that she minded too much. Luna was a rather well behaved dog when she wasn’t running around and full of energy. Which, for huskies, they were always ready to run a marathon.
Flusk looked downward and saw Luna looking up at her expectantly. “What, is a pony not allowed to think to herself in silence?”
Luna cocked her head to the side in confusion, seeming to not understand anything that Flusk just said. Flusk only facehoofed and rolled her eyes as she gave up on trying to get Luna to understand her.
She reclined in her seat and rested her head behind her, closing her eyes. However, her silence was once again interrupted when she heard the squeaking of a toy invading her ears. She opened her eyes once again and saw Luna with a squeaky toy in her mouth. The squeaky toy resembled a small squirrel. Flusk remembered Drizzle saying that this toy in particular was Luna’s favorite to play with.
“Ah, so you wanted to play, huh?”
Luna squeaked the toy and wagged her tail happily.
“Alright, but not for too long. I feel a bit tired today.”
Flusk’s horn glowed a purple aura as the squeaky squirrel was levitated out of Luna’s mouth. Luna backed up and readied herself to catch the toy as Flusk rose it high in the air. She flung the toy with her magic as the husky launched herself off her back legs and caught the toy right in her mouth.
“Nice catch!”
Luna ran up to Flusk with a bit of a proud look on her face as Flusk took the toy from her and threw it again. This continued on for a little while more as Flusk’s throws started to become a little less far each time. The unicorn seemed to be getting tired as she eventually made her last throw and Luna caught it once again.
“AGH!” Flusk screamed out suddenly.
Luna jumped, startled by her scream as Flusk pressed her hoof into her forehead, her eyes squeezing shut. The husky looked at her worriedly as she opened her eyes again. Her purple eyes almost looked a little hazy as she carefully climbed off the chair and shakily attempted to keep her balance on her hooves. Carefully taking one step at a time, Flusk slowly made her way towards the nearest mirror and leaned herself against a small table.
“W-Why is this happening right now..This isn’t a good time at all..” Flusk mumbled to herself.
Luna slowly walked up to Flusk and sat down. She was close to her but at a far enough distance that in case something happened, she’d be able to run away.
“P-Please..Stop..”
Flusk lowered her head and shut her eyes as she took deep breaths, trying to calm herself. She felt uneasy and like she was going to lose her balance if she didn’t have herself leaned against the table.
“Just for one moment..Only for a moment..He’s not here and it’ll only be just a moment..”
A bright light enveloped Flusk suddenly as Luna barked and backed away from her. Her once pony form started to transform and change as the giant figure started to get increasingly large. This only urged Luna to bark more and back away as a large tail swung near the dog’s legs. Two different horns were the last to form on the strange creature’s head as the bright light faded, revealing the new form of Flusk.
She knew if somepony had seen her right now, they would have screamed at her and called her a monster. She would have too. Her head was almost to the ceiling now as she had a long neck and long fluffy blue chest fur. She also had two mismatched wings now, mismatched limbs, and a rather noodly like body. Her face even seemed to have changed as she had a deer muzzle now where she once had a pony muzzle.
Luna didn’t seem like much of a fan of her new form as the dog barked continuously at the strange creature. Flusk folded her new floppy ears as she looked around nervously, worried that Luna’s barking was going to catch the attention of somepony. She stretched her panther paw out as her purple magic glowed around it and quieted the dog. It was as if she had stolen Luna’s bark as no noise came out of her throat when she attempted to bark.
“Sorry, I can’t have you getting me caught. I’ll fix it later.”
At this point, the husky chose to just lie on the ground and look up at the creature with annoyance since there wasn’t much else she could do. Flusk however was looking at herself in the mirror. She seemed rather disgusted or terrified of her reflection as she avoided making too much eye contact with herself and focused on her task at hoof..Claw?
She brought her two paws together and carefully balanced herself on her hindlegs, quite like how Discord walked on his own hindlegs. Flusk however struggled a bit since she was so used to being on four limbs all the time. Her whole body was enveloped in the same sparkly purple aura as she closed her eyes. It seemed the creature was meditating in some way as she barely made any movement except for the small flick of her dragon tail.
The sound of a door opening immediately awoke her from her meditation however as her worst nightmare was about to become true.
“Hey, Flusk! I’m back! I got some snacks and even a pizza. Ooo, and don’t forget Luna’s-...”
The groceries banged to the floor as Drizzle’s pupils shrunk and his jaw fell open. He couldn’t believe what he saw standing in his living room.
“D-Drizzle! It’s not what it looks like..U-Uh..Your dreaming!” She smiled sheepishly.
Drizzle suddenly pulled out a gun from behind his couch and aimed it for Flusk. She shrunk into herself and shielded her face with her paws.
“Please, don’t shoot!” She yelled.
“Who are you and what are you doing in my house?!”
“I’m Flusk you idiot! Can’t you tell by my voice?!”
“What?..But you’re-”
“Yes, I’m not a pony. We can all clearly see that! I can explain but I’m not going to do so when I’m about to be shot!”
Drizzle stared down at his gun and then the terrified creature in his living room. He lowered his gun and set it aside as Flusk relaxed, taking her paws away from her face.
“So..Um..Magic spell gone wrong?..” Drizzle asked, trying not to be intimidated by the fact she was a rather large creature now that easily towered over him.
“No..I’m supposed to look like this. This is me.” Flusk looked down sadly.
“What do you mean?..You’re a pony. You’ve always been a pony.”
“No, I’m not. I wish I was. That’s why I’m always in a pony form when I’m around others. I hate looking like this.”
“But..Wait..What?..”
Drizzle seemed rather confused and couldn’t believe what he was hearing. For years, he had been friends with Flusk and this had never happened. Neither did she ever tell him she wasn’t a pony. This had to be some sort of prank.
“This is just some stupid prank, huh? You do realize I almost shot you. This isn’t a funny prank.”
Flusk sighed. “Look, just sit down on the couch. I’ll explain everything..I may as well since you already know now.”
Drizzle trotted over to the couch and sat down. However, Flusk sat on the ground in front of him considering she was rather tall now and possibly even more heavy. She didn’t want to accidentally break his couch with her weight. He seemed rather uncomfortable with her being close to him anyways.
“So..If you didn’t notice by now, I’m a creature called a Draconequus. I’m what Discord is. You know, that old guy who threw Equestria into chaos a long time ago?”
“I mean..I figured that out but..Discord is the only draconequus. How is there more of him?”
“There’s always been more of him. Ponies just never knew. We’ve lived among you all for centuries.”
A few years after the three tribes of ponies, unicorn, pegasi and earth pony joined together as one and the cold winters came to an end, Equestria was finally able to settle and regrow their crops. With the settling of the weather, more animals and creatures also settled down. Equestria was known for its great weather conditions including great soil for plant growth. This made it a hot spot for new species..Including hybrid creatures of many different animals.
Ponies were unaware of many different species living around them at the time and as spring drew closer, a new species called draconequus also drew closer to the small village which in the future would become Ponyville.
After living closer to the ponies for a little while, the draconequi sent one of their kind to meet the ponies. Upon entering, ponies were terrified of the strange creature and most ran off screaming upon seeing the odd thing enter their village. However, the leader of the village decided to speak with the draconequus and see why they were here.
The draconequus had told the leader of the village that they and their kind had been observing them and their land. They asked if they too could stay on the land by providing a resource to them that would prove quite useful. The leader asked what they would like to provide in exchange for staying on their land with them and the draconequus offered their magic. By staying on their land, the draconequus would assist the ponies with their magic and help them thrive. The leader agreed and let the draconequus live with them in their village.
At first, ponies were rather uneasy by having hybrid creatures on their land that they had never seen before. But after a bit of time, they found living on the land much easier with the assistance of their magic and accepted them. Some even accepted them even more by growing families with them and having offsprings of both pony and draconequus heritage.
However, as the history of draconequus and pony living in peace went by, so did generations of ponies. Ponies did not live as long as draconequus and the leader of the village soon died as well. However, the leader was replaced with the next pony in line, his daughter Ebony Rain.
Ebony was a rather secretive pony and wasn’t very well known until her father, the leader of the village passed away and she became the new leader. From then on, Ebony was known as a pony not very fond of draconequus and often seemed to have a bit of an attitude with them. This surprised other ponies since draconequus had provided them with so much to live and Ebony seemed to take it all for granted.
However, ponies soon were given their answers on why. Over the course of time, Ebony silently slipped into conversations the idea of using draconequus to their advantage rather than giving them the equality they deserved. In secret, she developed devices that could steal magic and allow ponies to manipulate draconequus magic. She even gained followers that thought her ideas were brilliant while few other ponies disagreed with such a horrible idea.
Eventually, Ebony allowed her followers to use her inventions on draconequus and they were quite successful. This led to a lot of kidnappings of draconequus which made them quite uneasy about staying in the village. It wasn’t long before draconequus fled the village and even a few ponies as well since they didn’t agree with what Ebony was doing and some wanted to stay with their draconequus lovers.
Some draconequus fled to live back in their old lands while other draconequus decided to stay in the village..However, they didn’t stay as their old selves. They proceeded to give up their draconequus forms and turn into ponies as well so they could safely live in the village. And as time went on, they taught their kin to transform and learn normal pony behavior. It became a draconequus tradition.
However, the cost of this being that if a draconequus didn’t desire to be a pony or live in the village, they would be separated from their family. And if ponies found out about them, they would be in serious trouble. So, they kept it quiet and let ponies believe that their species had gone extinct and Discord, the only draconequus who didn’t follow their rules, was assumed to be the only one left.
“Wait, wait, wait..Hold on a second.” Drizzle interrupted Flusk’s story.
“Yes?” Flusk asked.
“You’re telling me..That there are ponies living among us that aren’t actually ponies?”
“Yes, however you wouldn’t know that because draconequus like me were raised in families where the day you’re born, you’re taught to transform. Of course, you can’t do it without assistance first, but learning to use your pony form is absolutely crucial in living in pony society.”
“And..Ponies really changed your species history because..They wanted your guys power?”
“Yes..Draconequus were considered very valuable to ponies. Our magic can be used to quicken their crop growth, make them more powerful, and even preserve their youth. It’s why we live for so long. It’s also why I think Ebony still lives..” Flusk furrowed her brow.
“Wait..How old are you? Last I remembered, you told me you were..Twenty three?..I don’t know.”
“I’m actually six thousand, three hundred sixty seven years old. In draconequus years, I’m considered a young adult so I suppose I’m still around the same age as your pony years.”
Drizzle’s mouth dropped as Flusk laughed at his reaction. She was expecting this from a creature who barely even lived on this planet for very long.
“That’s not fair..You’re older than me..” Drizzle pouted.
“To be honest, age doesn’t really define someone’s maturity. I’d say you’re still older than me mentally.”
“So..If you’ve lived this long..Does that mean you lived during the time of when ponies went after draconequus?”
“Well..I was quite young at the time that I only have a few memories..Memories I never forgot.”
Chapter 2: Glisten and Rogue
When I was younger, things weren’t necessarily better. I was raised in a family of three, me being the only child. There were supposed to be four of us but something happened to my older sibling and my mother refused to tell me what. They were alive before me and gone before I even got to meet them. It always made me feel like there was a piece of me missing that I would never get to discover.
My childhood was far from perfect. My mother, Glisten Dust, a draconequus known for her blunt nature, was always rather impatient with me and not very understanding. When I was being taught as a small draconequus how to transform and behave like a pony to fit in with the rest of my home, she pressured me further than she should have. She set goals for me I wasn’t ready to reach and yelled at me if I did something wrong. This kind of stress didn’t help me progress faster than the rest of my peers like she wanted but rather slower. This only fueled her rage and she often talked about physically hurting me from all her built up anger. She only did it once or twice but I knew she wanted to.
And then there was my father, Rogue Wind. He was a draconequus talented with his wings and could glide gracefully through almost any kind of wind. In his pony form, he was even better with his pegasus wings. He was a hard worker and rather friendly to others. I don’t carry any bad blood with him but he has his faults as well.
He never really stood up for me against my mother like I wanted him to and sort of left me to fend for myself. He was also a poor decision maker and either couldn’t make up his mind or made a bad choice. He was that father that was there for the good times but stepped back when there was confrontation. And while I’m someone who doesn’t like to fight much myself, I wish he had done more.
Like most draconequus, we lived in the village that would become Ponyville in the future. I was only a few months from a newborn when ponies started to go after draconequus and the lifestyle of being a pony was adapted to our kind for the ones who stayed behind. And although I was young, I still remember some fleeting memories that never left me.
The scenery immediately changed and shifted to a valley full of long green grass. There were many trees and wildlife all around quietly living amongst the valley. At least, they were before the sound of thumping began to shake the valley.
Many bunnies were disturbed from their rest as they hopped into their burrows and deers became alert by the noise and bounded off farther into the valley. The other animals scrambled to find a place to hide as it became clear that a stampede was heading straight for them. However, it was a stampede that many would have never witnessed before until now.
Many hybrid creatures emerged from behind a hill with panicked looks and screams of terror as they ran past on four legs. Many were mothers carrying their newborn children on their backs or by their scruffs and some were just even young draconequus trying to escape on their own. There even were ponies mixed in with the group who were galloping alongside their draconequus significant other, not willing to leave them behind.
Behind them, they could hear shouts of rage and the crackling of fire as a mob of angry ponies chased them, gaining up on the group of fleeing creatures. Some unicorns amongst the mob levitated cuffs alongside them which seemed to be Ebony’s inventions made to destabilize draconequus and steal their magic. Ebony of course led the mob with confidence as she too held her own inventions and a torch lit with fire.
As the draconequus continued to flee, some were unlucky and collapsed to the ground, being caught by one of Ebony’s followers and chained up. Others were families trying to help their kin keep up and were falling behind, closer into the claws of the enraged ponies. One family in particular was a family of three draconequus and they too were struggling to keep up with the others.
A mother with a dark purple and bluish mane held her baby daughter by her scruff as she threw her paws out in front of her, using all the strength within her to keep going. Her partner, a blue draconequus was aiding her to keep going while also making sure his daughter was safe. Their daughter appeared to be fast asleep despite all the chaos happening around her which somewhat reassured her parents.
“Stop you monsters!”
The two stopped as a unicorn stood in front of them, threatening them with a weapon. It seemed to be a spear of some time that was altered with magic. It crackled like lightning and spurt specks of magic on the ground.
“Get the fuck out of my way.” The mother snarled.
“I’m not going anywhere. Not until you both are caged and restrained like the rest of your kind.”
The father began to growl as his mismatched wings raised in the air and his body lowered to the ground. The fur on his back stood up as he bared his sharp teeth in somewhat of a warning to the pony. He wasn’t known for being a fighter but he sure wasn’t going to let any pony harm his daughter.
“Need some help over here, they’re getting pretty hostile!” The unicorn called out.
That was the last straw for the mother draconequus. In a split second, she dropped her daughter on to the ground without thinking and went flying through the air with her claws out. She dug her claws into the pony’s chest which caused them to scream in agony and drop the weapon they were holding as blood soaked the fur on her paws.
The screams of the unicorn immediately alerted the other ponies around them as they rushed to assist them. Ponies began to try and fight back at the mother draconequus as she went on a complete rampage to claw at them and draw blood from all of them. The unicorn she once was attacking was completely motionless at this point as they lied on the ground limply while the others fought against the draconequus.
The father was busy protecting his daughter as more ponies closed in on them and attempted to harm him and his young one. He knew that his partner wouldn’t be able to keep up for much longer and that they would be doomed if she stopped. What choice did they have now?
“What are you still doing here, Rogue?” The mother draconequus asked as she sliced at a pony’s face. “Take Flusk and get out of here!”
“I won’t leave you behind!” He called back.
“Are you fucking stupid?! You will die and she will die! Get out of here before it’s too late!”
“No!”
Rogue shielded his daughter with his wings and backed up as his tail swung around madly. All he could really do was try and reclaim as much space as he could and spare time as much as he could. If he had more time, maybe he’d be able to think of something to get them out of here.
“AGHHH!!”
“GLISTEN!”
Flusk’s mother collapsed to the ground, covered in scratches and the blood of the ponies she fought. With her down, the ponies took this chance to restrain her and trap Rogue and Flusk. As they slammed cuffs on Glisten’s wrists, Rogue frantically ran about trying to evade the ponies.
All this commotion made little Flusk open her eyes and look around curiously as her world moved around so much and many faces of different creatures passed by her. It didn’t upset her but it did seem to confuse the little one.
“Rogue, get out of here now!”
“No!”
“Alright, that’s enough.”
A yellow aura suddenly blasted at the group of ponies surrounding Rogue and Glisten as they were showered in a storm of yellow magic. It was like being in a hurricane only made of the power of a magic user as furious winds pushed Rogue and Glisten back. They were strong enough to keep their ground but they both shielded themselves with their wings and Flusk.
The same couldn’t be said for the ponies as they fought against the strong power pushing them back and failed as they were thrown across the grass and went flying through the air. Once all the ponies seemed to have been disposed of, the hurricane of magic disappeared and left the draconequus’s ears ringing.
“W-What was that?..” Glisten asked, unshielding herself with her bleeding wing.
“I don’t know but I’ve never seen magic anything like that..It couldn’t have been a unicorn.” Rogue replied. “It felt different. It had some sort of feeling about it that I can’t explain.”
“You just gonna stand there or what? I provided you an exit, now use it!”
The two draconequus looked behind them to see a younger draconequus who looked about to be in his teenage years smirking at them as he bounced an accumulation of his magic in his lion paw. He had fluffy white bangs that somewhat hid his eyes and black hair on his neck. However, his yellow and red eyes were the most noticeable about him as Glisten seemed to immediately recognize the youngster.
“Snowy’s son..” Glisten mumbled, her eyes widening.
“Come on.”
Rogue and Glisten ran off without a second glance as the young draconequus turned his back to them and to the crowd of incoming ponies. He crossed both his arms as he stood on his hindlegs, observing them with nothing but a mischievous grin on his face.
“I was looking forward to having some test subjects for my latest spell.”
“And..That’s all I remember.” Flusk said, presently sitting on the floor.
“All you remember? That’s quite a lot for someone who was a baby at the time. Not to mention the fact that you said you only remembered a few memories.” Drizzle replied with a confused look.
“Well, my magic does specialize in memory. Maybe over the course of remembering it, it helped me unlock those forgotten ones and brought them back to the surface.”
“Specialize? Magic doesn’t exactly specialize in things, it just exists.”
“No, no, draconequus magic specializes in certain areas. Like um..For an example, there’s such a thing as fire magic. A draconequus may be able to still do the normal stuff like levitating things and teleporting but someone who’s a fire magic user would mainly specialize in fire and be able to manipulate it.”
“Like that draconequus who saved your parents? Let me guess..Wind magic or whatever?”
“Sort of..His magic was a little different though. You don’t normally see anyone with an ability like his.”
“Right..” Drizzle shifted himself in his seat. “So, why’d you lie and say that you aren’t good at magic?”
“I’m not good at it!”
“Yeah? Then how come you’ve got some crazy power that you never use? I’ve been training and helping you only to learn that you don’t need it.”
Flusk sighed. “It’s complicated..”
“Let me guess, another story?”
Once a draconequus is a toddler, they are trained by their parents to use their powers. By doing so, they also learn what their magic specializes in and what they’re capable of. Whether you’re a draconequus with magic weaker than others or a draconequus with very strong magic that is able to rival others, you find out what you can do and what it takes.
I found out that mine specialized in memory. This meant that I could freely have access to my memories and remember things better than most. It was like a visual archive within my head that I could easily pick a memory from and see it. However, as great as it sounds to be able to recall your memories so easily, it can be a very dangerous power to carry.
This power can be used on others than just myself. Just as the visual archive I described before, I can see everyone’s memories if I unlock my power. But I can also tamper with those memories. I have the ability to switch around memories so they are remembered as an event that happened before another or happened after. I can also add things to others memories that weren’t there before or take them away. I can even erase their memory entirely or place in a new one of my choosing.
Without complete mastery of this magic and the matureness to handle this with responsibility, this can be heavily abused and can change everything. I always felt I wasn’t in control enough to handle it and I hated having the power. So, I refused to use it.
After I finished my training with my magic, I only used my magic for the simplest of things such as levitation, teleportation, and other simple tasks. My parents never took notice because my power was never really needed. After not using it for so long, it began weakening and I was able to mentally lock it away within myself, forever. My magic no longer worked the same way it used to and it reverted to what you ponies would call the skill level of a unicorn filly.
“You’d really throw away all that potential and power just because you felt you couldn’t handle it?” Drizzle asked.
“What good is power when all it does is damage and harm?”
“It doesn’t have to if you use it correctly.”
“Yeah well, too late now.”
“Not really. You can always just..You know, use it again and try to train yourself with it.”
“It’s not that simple. I haven’t used it for years. It’s probably not even accessible anymore.”
The two sat in silence, thinking to themselves before one spoke again.
“So what truly made you decide to be a pony?” Drizzle asked.
“That too is a long story that had many events leading up to it..”
