Changing a Spoiled Mind
Chapter 5: Changing a Spoiled Mind
Previous ChapterNext ChapterPreviously, Diamond Tiara and her friends discovered that the perfume was running low.
Detirmined not to start over at square one, Diamond Tiara has decided that it was now or never; today was the day she'd talk to her mother. REALLY talk to her.
"Mother...there's something I'd like to talk to you about..." Diamond Tiara said to her mother.
"Of course my dear, Diamond Tiara. Do I need to fetch your father?" Spoiled Rich asked.
"No...in fact...let's take this to my room." Diamond Tiara said, and led her mother into her room.
"So has...something been bugging you, my sweet daughter?" Spoiled Rich asked.
"Yeah...your behavior. I know you've been really good about wanting to be a good mother recently...but before that...to say you were anything less then a prime A you know what, would be an understatement." Diamond Tiara said. As good of a mother as her mother was right now, she was sure that Spoiled would wash her mouth out with soup if Diamond Tiara said bitch just then.
"I...I see..." Spoiled Rich said. "I am proud of you for choosing not to say what I believe you were hinting towards. Still...that is a little...harsh to be saying the way I was acting." She said.
"Well you were harsh on me, threating to tear me apart from a school system I've actually come to enjoy, friends that actually care about me, and a life I don't think I'd have without all of it." Diamond Tiara said. "You may want me to follow in your hoofsteps, but have you ever once considered what it is that I want? Have you ever cared about how I felt? Before this...you most defiantly did not. So while I will apologize for using such harsh words to describe the way you were, the fact of the matter is it doesn't make those words any more adpt." She explained.
"I..." Spoiled Rich couldn't hold back any longer. She broke down.
"Now...that's not to say you can't change. I changed, and so can you." Diamond Tiara said. "Be honest with yourself, do you really believe that the only way to get ahead in life is to constantly look down on others? You've seen the way I've been handling myself just fine without doing that. And look where I am now: I'm actually respected, I'm treated right, and I even have great friends." Diamond Tiara said. "And those friends, no matter where they are in the social ladder, are connections I've formed. Sure, they may not be much now, and sure they are a little rough around the edges. But so is any pony. No pony is perfect. Not even me. Not even you. Not even father." Diamond Tiara said.
"But...I thought you loved your father..." Spoiled was brought out of her crying by Diamond Tiara's words. The pink filly smiled.
"I do mom. I love daddy to bits and can't imagine having a better father then him. And that's because he's actually such a great dad. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have his faults." Diamond Tiara said. "Yet, despite those faults...I couldn't have asked for a better father." She added. "We all have our faults mother...and that's okay. It's okay to have those faults. It's okay not to be perfect. Because I've learnt from the friends I've made, the life I've lived, and the things I've done, that nopony is perfect. All that matters, is that we be ourselves. No matter what social standing we may or may not have...we just have to be ourselves, and soon true success will find it's way. Just look at me: Despite my past and what I've done, I can now safely say I have five really great friends; friends I wouldn't dare trade for anything in the world. Sure, Silver Spoon is also in high society, but because of the school election, I've had to do a lot of rebuilding to make her my friend again." Diamond Tiara explained. "And then there's the cutie mark crusaders. Scootaloo's a daredevil who struggles to fly, but dreams of one day being able to sour into the sky. Sweetie Belle has trouble using her magic, yet she has an amazing singing voice. Apple Bloom is a farm girl to her core, but she also understands the importance of family." She listed. "Every one of my five closest friends has something to them that is faulty, but that doesn't make them any less important then me. I've come to realize it's not about your social standing, it's about the connections you make that really make you who you are." Diamond Tiara said. "And I mean the real connections; not the fake ones you buy with money. I have five geninuine connections in life; connections that are real and have structure. And those connections will last a lifetime." She said. "That's more real then anything." Diamond Tiara finished.
Spoiled Rich broke down in tears once more. Diamond Tiara hugged her crying mother.
"I'm so...so sorry Diamond Tiara..." Spoiled Rich said. "Can you ever forgive me for not seeing this sooner?" She asked.
"I already have." Diamond Tiara said with a smile. "Something else I've learnt about making these connections, is that sometimes it's not a good thing to hold grudges." She added.
"You are making me so proud right now..." Spoiled Rich said. "Thank you...for giving me a chance to be your mother again..." She added.
"You better not squander it this time." Diamond Tiara said. "Now, I would like to invite my friends over for some quality play time. Is that okay?" Diamond Tiara asked.
"Of course Diamond Tiara...they are your friends after all. No matter who they are, I must accept them." Spoiled Rich.
Even though the perfume was never used again after that, the conversation stuck. Spoiled Rich became a much better mother after that, and even allowed her daughter to be friends with the ponies she was friends with.
Diamond Tiara couldn't help but smile and wonder something...
With the upcoming Hoofloose, just what else awaited her on the horizon?
