The Rain

The damp breeze made it hard to breathe, with each inhale of air bringing along just enough water to cause fits after so long. But Vhir'Krah was slowly getting used to it. His Equine allies were going through the exact same thing, anyways. Just another night in Hell.
But with rain.
He rolled onto his side, and pushed his eyes shut, but the patter of rain falling on moistened ground kept penetrating the thin veil of sleep he so desperatly wanted. Giving up, he just sighed and let his eyes open up again. He could hear ponies outside talking as they walked to their tents, but couldn't make out any words. Just mixed tones and voices. And rain. In a new attempt, he decided to hone his superior Changeling hearing into the rain, hoping the sounds would slowly drive him out. *pitter-pat...-pit-patter-pat-pitpitter...crunch* His eyes shot open, and his mind instantly ran to his daughter, in the building just across the way. He eased out of bed, careful not to make any noises, and the hoofsteps grew into marching. He knew that nopony was to enter or leave this late, so he grabbed his sword and sheath, and braved the rain to go outside. "You there. I'm not allowed to let any of you lot through." He said, stepping in their way. But there were too many of them.
An entire company of royal guards marched through the town, but one stepped out of line and with the use of a megaphone, called out to the town. "Attention everypony who resides legally or illeally in this camp is hereby ordered to line up outside! Younger then 20 to the left, older to the right!" This message was repeated as both pony and changeling lined up. Vhir saw his wife and kids, but all guards were ordered to stand back, looking over all of the campers. "Now, we have a message from Celestia herself, that is being sent to each and every camp such as this one. Now, may all Changelings step forward." Eventually, reluctantly, every Changeling stepped forward from the Pony rest of them. "Ah, good. Now, from the letter from the Princess herself: 'Dear Changelings to whom it may concern: I greatly appreciate all of you, and want to thank your Race for the help you have provided us in fighting back the Gryphonic invaders and saving us from impending doom. However, over the land we've tanken from hard won battles and expansion, along with the immense amount of forces you have helped trained, we have gained empire status and thus, do not require any further assistance. And my first act as leader of an empire is to exterminate the disgusting vermin known as Changelings that have burrowed themselves into our new empire. Good day to you all.'" He finished reading, and looked back up to stunned eyes and confused faces. "Place. Younger ones first." He said, motioning to the younger group of changelings. One pegasus walked over, and on his shoulder, a spear was mounted. He walked behind the first and youngest changeling, spear aimed directly down at the yound boy's throat. There was a pause, and he looked back to the pegasus behing him. "Eyes forward, disgusting heap of filth!" He yelled, taking a hoof and knocking him to the ground. Vhir took a few long steps forward, but was halted by two pegasi who swooped down, obviously hiding in the clouds for somepony to run. "No, no, no. You're gonna be the last one because of this." The Unicorn who read the letter told him, glancing over. "Execute." He said loudly and firmly. On cue, the pegasus reared his shoulder back, and drove the spear straight through the soft body of the young Changeling, but not killing him. "He'll bleed out. Move to the next." The Unicorn said, walking around the scene. Vhir looked to his daughter, who looked back with a look of true terror in her aqua crystal eyes. The spear ripped through the next in line's flesh, and came out along with a lung attatched. The young Changeling fell to his knees, dead outside and hardly alive inside. "Once." The Unicorn said, giving the executioner the ok for another hit. "STOP!" Vhir shouted, and was now being physically restrained by the Pegasi. "You can't just kill us all!" he yelled, voice cracking and tears on the verge of running. "Oh?" The Unicorn said, turning to Vhir. The pegasus reared back, and brought the spear through the head of the young boy, and he went limp on the spear, falling face-down onto the muddy earth. "But i'm doing exactly that." He said, with a smirk. Vhir looked on in horror as the Pegasus took aim at his daughter and positioned himself for a lunge. A surge of adrenaline crashed over Vhir, and he pushed the two pegasi holding him out of the air. He ran at full speed, pushing off the ground with each rush of energy he released. But it was in vain, as he could see it happening. The spear had crashed halfway through his daughter's head, and by time he was halfway there, he had poulled out already. He ran for her limp body, but one of the Pegasi swooped in and picked it up, blood steaming down.
Like rain.
He looked around, and found the face of the spear aimed at him now. Military training took over, and he artfully dodged the spear, and ran back through the maze of tents and buildings erected for the camp, hoping to lose any pursuit he may have attracted with his episode back there. His eyes were stinging, whether it was sweat or rain he couldn't tell as he picked a direction and ran. After what seemed like a hundred miles, he finally came to what appeared to be a cave, and wandered in, hoping never to be found. He was away from the downpour, but still heard the dropping of water, and the ground around him grew damp as his tears fell.
Like rain.
