Do I Know You?

Chapter IV: Aftermath

Previous Chapter

Gentle tapping noises were heard from underneath the doors throughout the second-floor hallway of the Ponyville Hospital. Rainbow Dash was silently trotting on the tip of her hooves in the middle of the night, careful not to wake any patients up, so she could finally get some fresh air even though the doctors insisted her on getting moderate rest as she was still in the process of getting better.

But was Rainbow Dash one to listen?

Stubborn was what she was.

As Rainbow Dash was gradually trotting through the corridor with the moonshine illuminating on the floor that absorbed through the window as the curtains were waving about due to its night, cold wind since the window was opened, she unhurriedly descended the staircase to watch out for her broken wing and hoof and to prevent any interruptions from causing all the patients on the second floor of the hospital to wake up.

Once Rainbow Dash realised that she had made it to the ground floor quietly, she took a breath of composure and exited out of the entrance door to embrace herself into the starry night sky.

‘’Finally,’’ she said. ‘’I can now stretch out my wings...’’ -she gently flapped her wings but realised that they were covered in bandages- ‘’...or not?’’

A lonely pebble was sat in front of her which got her magenta eyes - that was sparkling within the moonlight - drawn on top of it so kicked the small stone with a healthy hoof.

‘’Hey! Watch it!’’ came a cranky voice to Rainbow Dash’s surprise. She turned her body around to spot an old violet earth pony sitting on a bench in front of her with an angry expression.

Rainbow Dash winced. ‘’Sorry,’’ she replied.

The old pony huffed with her head held high and trotted away from the pegasus with a trotting stick to balance herself and prevent her from falling.

‘’Now what do I do exactly?’’ Rainbow Dash asked herself helplessly. ‘’Cause a scene like when I was tryna grab the daring-do book to finish off the last scene?’’

She shook her head. ‘’Don’t be ridiculous, Rainbow Dash! You have learned from your lesson, haven’t you?’’

The unaccompanied pegasus sat her haunches on top of the bench where the old pony was once sitting. She merely stared wearily at the shining stars above until something caught her ears.

‘’Hello, Rainbow Dash!’’ came an energetic, squeaky voice from a distance above the pegasus. Although, she didn’t know that so got up from her bench and glanced around at her surroundings.

‘’Who was that?’’ Rainbow Dash asked, eyeing suspiciously at a nearby bush.

‘’Dashie, it’s me!’’ came the voice again. ‘’You don’t remember me, still?’’

‘’That... voice seems familiar.’’ Rainbow Dash tried to pursue the intimate voice. ‘’Mind givin’ me a clue?’’

Then came a sigh. ‘’What starts with P and ends with E?’’

‘’P and E?’’ Rainbow Dash repeated, scratching her head. ‘’I can’t think straight right now ‘cuz of you know if you know.’’ She glanced at her back and ruffled her bandaged wings.

In front of her came landing a space-suited pony until they took off their helmet to reveal their identity.

Rainbow Dash squinted her eyes to see in the dark. ‘’Pinkie Pie?’’ She smirked, glad to finally have company alongside her. ‘’What are you doing so late at night?’’

‘’What are you doing when you’re supposed to be resting?’’ Pinkie Pie asked crossly, trotting toward her friend and poking her in the chest while squashing her helmet against her chest.

The pegasus chuckled nervously. ‘’I got kind of bored and I wanted some fresh air when I realised I couldn’t use my wings to fly myself home.’’

‘’But you can’t fly yourself home without the doctor's permission, Rainbow Dash!’’ Pinkie Pie shot back, crossing her hooves against her chest seriously which was very unlike for the pink pony to be in a way. ‘’I care about you and so do the others so go get some rest!’’

Rainbow Dash sighed and frowned. ‘’I know,’’ she replied. ‘’And I sorta wished I never pulled off that sonic rainboom because now look what I have done!’’ She sat atop the bench again. ‘’Even though it was epic.’’

Pinkie Pie sat on the bench next to her friend. ‘’I guess I know how it feels to be isolated and physically and emotionally hurt,’’ she explained. ‘’But don’t think negatively because I guarantee that you will go down in history for the first one pulling off a sonic rainboom and a double one!’’

Rainbow Dash chuckled. ‘’Even when I harmed myself?’’ she asked, huffing. ‘’Yeah, right. What kind of influence would I put on for the younglings who look up to me?’’

‘’Hey.’’ Pinkie Pie looked at her intently. ‘’You know what Twilight always used to say: that success always comes from your mistakes even when you harm yourself a tad.’’

‘’Uhhh.’’ Rainbow Dash darted her eyes back and forth. ‘’She never did say that at all, Pinkie Pie.’’

The optimistic pony shrugged. ‘’Eh. I thought I heard someone say it before.’’

The pegasus rolled her eyes, then pawed intently at the floor. ‘’Have you ever wondered about us being more than just friends, Pinkie Pie?’’

Pinkie Pie looked at her. ‘’What do you mean? We are best friends, Dashie!’’

‘’I know, but since our personalities are a perfect match... have you ever considered us to be, you know, dating?’’ Rainbow Dash merely suggested out of the blue which suddenly made her cheeks feel hot.

Pinkie Pie smiled warmly and nuzzled herself in her friend’s coat. ‘’I wouldn’t know what the future holds, Dashie, but I was always hoping for us to finally think about it.’’

A peaceful smile led onto the cyan pegasus’ lips which urged her to drag her friend in for warmth as the wind swiftly went past them and the moonlight gradually shone on the two mares.

But then the pegasus pulled away for a second.

‘’What’s wrong, Dashie?’’ Pinkie Pie looked at her in concern.

‘’It’s just... it’s nothing. Don’t know what I’m so worried about. Let’s carry on now.’’

Pinkie Pie beamed ever so slightly and resumed back into nuzzling against her chest.
