Principal Celestia’s Office, Canterlot High School
The final bell rang over the intercom, signaling the end of the school day. For students and teachers alike, it meant going home and enjoying the things they liked to do in their free time. Well, for most of them anyway. Ever the stalwart educator, Principal Celestia Solaris, leaned back in her leather office chair and sighed at the mountain of paperwork piled atop her desk. With Summer Vacation a mere two weeks away, most of it was just the usual bureaucratic cogs which turned the wheel that was the Greater Canterlot School District Administration.
Routine for a Friday afternoon as far as Celestia was concerned. About an hour passed before she finished signing off on what needed to be signed when the final document at the bottom of the pile caught her attention. It was an amended budget proposal for the senior prom. The catering was in question, or more precisely, it requested that food trucks be allowed to park on school premises to allow the students a greater selection of refreshments for their soirée.
A wise decision because it wouldn’t cost the district anything to do so. In fact, the truck owners would be required to donate a portion of their collective proceeds to an afterschool program, for the privilege of using school property in order to vend their wares. A fair trade, Celestia mused. They would surely turn a profit with gaggles of hungry teenagers looking for a late-night snack. Just as she was about to sign the dotted line, a memory flashed before her eyes.
Celestia was instantly taken back to her own senior prom. She’d never been what anyone would consider a popular kid. Quite the opposite. She was shy, bookish, and never put a great deal of effort into how she dressed or bothered with applying tons of makeup. Yet, that night, she did go out of her way to spruce herself up for a romantic evening. The captain of the baseball team had asked her out to prom and she, admittedly, had been smitten with him for quite some time.
Unfortunately for the young and naïve Celestia, it was not to be. The whole thing had just been an elaborate practical joke set up by the popular clique of students, meant to make her look like a fool on prom night. She went home early that night in tears and vowed to never experience such heartbreak again. College wasn’t too much better for Celestia. She tended to focus on her studies instead of getting drunk, going to frat parties, or socializing in general. Her hard work had certainly paid off in terms of experiencing a fulfilling career but at the cost of becoming a lonely, romantically deprived virgin in her late thirties. Only two other people were aware of Celestia’s embarrassing secret. They were her younger sister and adopted daughter, respectively. And she preferred to keep it that way at all costs.
A knock on the door interrupted Celestia’s reverie, causing her to let out a startled squeak. Arms crossed underneath her breasts; Vice Principal Luna shot her older sibling a disapproving stare. “Tia, how many times have we gone over this? Fridays are a time for celebration, not paperwork! It shall still grace your desk come Monday. C’mon and live a little.”
Cheeks flushed rosy pink, Celestia gently placed the signed proposal into her done basket. “Honestly, Lulu. I just wanted to make sure that everything was in order before summer break. You know how the district likes to meet their end of the year quotas! In any case, it’s good to see you. Did the students in detention give you any trouble this afternoon?”
Luna reached into the crystal bowl sitting on Celestia’s desk and unwrapped a butterscotch candy. “Not any more than usual. However, I think we need to have a talk with Snips’ parents regarding his perpetual ‘vaping’ habit. His use of blinged-out hookahs is rather disgusting, unseemly, and causes a distraction amongst the student populace.”
“Um… I beg your pardon?”
Luna sighed. “You do know what vaping is, right? Please tell me that you do…”
Celestia chuckled sheepishly. “Would it make you feel better if I did?”
“Vaporized nicotine products, dear sister. They even come in a host of different flavors. Think of them as the modern-day equivalent to cigarettes. How could you not know that?”
Celestia rubbed the back of her neck. “Oh! Yes, I do believe I read an article mentioning those.”
Luna rolled her eyes. “Suffice to say, I shall be the one to handle the conference with the parents. But enough about work! The weekend is upon us, Tia! How would you like to accompany me to one of the local watering holes for an alcoholic beverage or four? I hear that it is all you care to eat boneless wing night at the Rusty Fire Hydrant. They even have a mild version of the seasoning on the menu. I know how sensitive your lips are when it comes to hot sauce.”
“I’m not sure. The laundry’s been piling up at home and—”
Luna flicked Celestia’s forehead. “This is precisely why you are still single! Your delicates won’t fly out of the hamper while you are gone. Please, Tia. I’m begging you! Just come with me to the bar. I want you to have some fun and relax. Tell you what: if at any point you feel uncomfortable, you can leave without a single protest from me. Does that sound fair?”
Celestia twirled a strand of her rainbow-hued hair and smiled. “It has been a while since I last went bar hopping. Do you think they’ll have strawberry daiquiris?”
“I have no idea. But does it really matter? I’m sure there are plenty of other fruity drinks to be had there. Head home, freshen up, and select a cute outfit. I’ll be over at your townhouse in an hour to pick you up. Remember to wear something that accentuates the sumptuous curves of your derriere and those long legs of yours! I would suggest a mini-skirt, personally.”
Before Celestia could respond, Luna was already halfway down the hall. “Why in the world would I need to draw attention to myself like that? Unless….”
The commute back to her townhouse gave Celestia plenty of time to think about what she was going to do next. Beyond the obvious, of course. Luna, through one of her hair-brained schemes, was intent on turning Boneless Wing Night into Date Night. The rainbow-haired principal sighed after she slipped out of her lavender pantsuit and stepped into the shower. Sometimes, it was good to just let the hot water wash over you and let your mind drift. About twenty minutes later, Celestia dried off with a towel and padded over to the vanity mirror set up in the corner of her bedroom.
Despite being thirty-eight years old, Celestia had a physique that women more than a decade younger than her would envy. Her trim figure was the result of a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen. She enjoyed practicing yoga and tai-bo went time permitted. She was exceptionally tall for a female; around one hundred and ninety centimeters. Celestia’s towering height gave her long, slender legs that connected to a pair of wide hips, and a curvaceous rump that tended to jiggle with even the slightest hint of movement. As a precaution, Celestia went to great lengths to ensure that her outfits were as modest and professional looking as possible. Lest they draw too much attention to her backside, triggering hormone-fueled adolescent fantasies amongst the student populace. Even so, she was pretty extra sure that still happened.
It’s not as though her breasts were anything to sneeze at either. While not particularly large by any standard, they were noticeable enough to garner some attention from the occasional passerby. Pear-shaped and peaked by a pair of perky pink nipples. Many wondered, and few ever found out that the carpet did indeed match the drapes. Celestia didn’t mind shaving her armpits and legs regularly, but she wasn’t too keen on putting anything sharp near her privates. Thus, a thick, rainbow-hued bush sat nestled in-between her legs.
Luna constantly teased Celestia about looking like a retro porn star and shot plenty of weedwacker jokes her way, but she felt that her bush didn’t require much in the way of maintenance beyond a trim here and there to keep it from becoming too unruly. Otherwise, she made sure to keep it clean with the same care she applied to the hair atop her head.
With a frustrated huff, Celestia rummaged through her undergarment drawer, trying to find something that looked cute. She decided to take Luna’s advice and wear a skirt instead of her usual blue jeans. On the off chance that someone might catch a glimpse of her unmentionables, she wanted to make sure that they were sexy. Considering that ninety percent of her underwear came from plastic-wrapped five packs, it was nothing short of a miracle that she happened to find a frilly red thong and a matching bra stuffed at the back of the drawer.
Celestia frowned when she slipped them on, realizing why she never made a habit of wearing sexy lingerie. “I suppose there’s a reason why thongs are referred to as: ‘butt-floss’. What on earth even possessed me to buy these in the first place? Style at the cost of comfort…”
Out of pure instinct, Celestia picked up her phone when she saw that Sunset’s name popped up on the caller ID. It had been a while since their last conversation and Celestia was eager to speak with her adopted, albeit beloved, daughter. “Hey Mom. What’s up?”
“Hi, sweetheart. How are finals coming along?”
The screen of Sunset’s phone tilted slightly, revealing her state of undress. As a former unicorn, she didn’t much care for fashion, or wearing anything for that matter. When asked, she’d explained that clothing simply wasn’t considered essential in Equestria, unlike in the human world. Sunset’s blasé attitude when it came to nudity took some getting used to when she started living with Celestia. It seemed as though she’d carried over the habit to her college dorm. Celestia bit her lip, hoping that Sunset’s lifestyle didn’t cause tension with her roommates.
Sunset opened the fridge door and started chugging down a bottle of orange juice. “Just finished up the last term paper this morning. All I’ve gotta do now is pack and head back home. Hold on a second. Are you wearing lingerie?! That’s—erm—cool, I guess. Good for you, Mom.”
Celestia blushed furiously. “You’re one to talk, walking around naked all the time! In any case, Luna invited me out for a night of drinks and boneless wings at the Rusty Fire Hydrant. To celebrate the weekend, she claims. I have a feeling there’s an ulterior motive buried in there.”
Sunset plopped onto her bed belly first, while kicking her bare feet back and forth. “Duh. She’s been trying to set you up on blind dates for years. Seriously, Mom. You need to put yourself out there. You know, single and ready to mingle. Unpucker your asshole and have some fun!”
Celestia shook her head. “Language, dear. I know I taught you better than that.”
Sunset stuck out her tongue. “My bad. Force of habit. Look, you’ve got a great body and a stellar personality. Any dude would be lucky to have you as their date. All you’ve got to do is be a little bit more outgoing and confident. The rest will fall into place. I promise.”
“I can’t believe I’m getting romantic advice from my own daughter…”
Sunset shifted uncomfortably. “Mom, you don’t have to feel bad about still being a virgin. I get it. Shit happens! You were focusing on your career and creating stability in your life. There’s no rule that says you need to have—”
Celestia let out a heavy sigh. “I know, sweetheart. But there’s this inexplicable hole in my life. I have you, Luna, and plenty of close friends but… it still feels like there’s something missing. It’s not just about the sex. I need companionship. Intimate companionship. Oh goodness! I sound really desperate and lonely, don’t I? Figures. Luna’s instincts, once again, were spot on.”
“The most important thing about dating is to just be yourself. Don’t pretend to be someone or something that you’re not. If you don’t want to wear sexy lingerie, put on whatever makes you feel comfortable. Personally, I wouldn’t bother wearing panties at all but… you get the idea.”
Celestia glanced down at her waist and frowned. “This thong has been giving me the worst wedgie. I can’t imagine I’ll get used to the sensation anytime soon. Alright then! I’ll stick with my usual undergarments. And no mini-skirt! I’ve been told that mom jeans make my butt look good.”
Sunset laughed. “That’s the spirit, Mom! And by the way, your ass would look great in just about anything. I’m saying this from a totally objective perspective as a fellow woman. Damn it! That sounded a lot cooler, and way less creepy in my head. What I’m saying is: you’ve got this.”
“I certainly hope so. When do you expect you’ll be home?”
Sunset shrugged. “Tomorrow afternoon, maybe.”
“I’ll make sure to change the sheets on your bed when I get back. Love you, Sunset.”
“Love you too, Mom. See ya later.”
Celestia tapped the end call button and fished out a more comfortable set of underwear from her drawer. A pair of plain, purple cotton panties with a little bow on front and a matching bra. “Not exactly the pinnacle of feme fatale but at least they won’t ride up my butt crack all night.”
A quick text from Luna heralded her arrival, if the horn-honking wasn’t obvious enough. When Celestia finally got in the car, her younger sibling shook her head in disapproval. “I distinctly remember telling you to wear a mini-skirt, Tia. Those are freakin’ mom jeans! For pity’s sake… are those sneakers?! We’re bar-hopping not picking up the kids from soccer practice.”
Celestia appraised her sister’s outfit and hung her head in embarrassment. As Luna was wont to do, she tended to dress liberally when not confined to school property. That is to say, she liked showing off a liberal amount of skin. She wore a short midnight blue sundress made of satin that hugged all of her curves and left nothing to the imagination. There were no underwear lines to be seen so far as Celestia could tell, which all but guaranteed that Luna had decided to go full commando. A pair of sleek, black stilettos adorned her feet, and a silver crescent moon necklace hung around her neck. She’d even frizzed up her hair a bit and put on sparkly blue eyeliner with matching lipstick. In a word, her outfit screamed: “COME GET SOME, BOYS!”
“Well, at least I don’t look like some slutty cabana girl.” Celestia groused.
Luna clicked her tongue. “I see no need to hide my assets. Let them look. Let them slobber.”
“Do you at least have some condoms back at your apartment, Lulu?”
Luna scoffed. “What kind of woman do you take me for, sister? Of course, I have a stash of condoms! Just because you don’t engage in casual sex doesn’t mean I have to hold myself to the same standard. In any case, I’m not looking to start a serious relationship tonight. Having fun is the name of my game and I intend to do so with style.”
“Just remember that the Rusty Fire Hydrant is a bar, not a dance club, or a rave. No gyrating against other patrons. Save the sexy, sweaty antics for your bedroom, Lulu.”
“Yes, Mother. Do I have to be in bed by ten or do I have your permission to stay out later?”
Celestia gently placed her hand on Luna’s shoulder. “I’m just trying to look out for you, little sister. One of these days, I’m afraid that I’ll find you unconscious in a dark alleyway or worse!”
Luna took in a sharp breath and sighed. “I’m sorry for being so snide with you, Tia. Sometimes, I forget that you & I are like the sun and the moon. Polar opposites, yet interrelated. Before we head inside, I want to tell you something. But you have to promise me that you won’t freak out.”
“I suppose so. What is it?” Celestia asked anxiously.
Luna pulled into the parking lot and turned off the engine once she found a spot. “We won’t be the only ones attending tonight’s festivities. I took the liberty of inviting Cheerliee and Coach Torch to join us. Think of it as a… mixer of sorts. A way to break the ice outside of work.”
Celestia’s eyes widened with fear and she began hyperventilating. “You invited Torch?!”
“Relax, Tia. He was quite amenable to the idea. I dare say, he seemed excited to hear that you were coming along with me. Quite frankly, I believe that he might be interested in you as well.”
“I CAN’T GO IN THERE!!!” Celestia squeaked.
“Yes, you can. How else do you expect to start a relationship with him? Talking is the first step.”
Face flushed with nervous energy, Celestia closed her eyes. “Easy for you to say, Lulu! You’re experienced with these sorts of situations. I-I haven’t been on a date since high school. Not to mention the big white elephant in the room. Do you think men can sense that I’m a virgin?”
Luna allowed herself a quiet chuckle. “Surely you mean white elephant-sized booty?”
“Did you say something?”
Luna cleared her throat. “Nothing, Tia. I was merely… thinking aloud to myself. To answer your question, I don’t believe they can tell for certain. Unless, you were to have sex. I seem to recall that you lost your hymen back in middle school, correct?”
“During gymnastics class. I’ve never felt so embarrassed…” Celestia mumbled.
Luna reached over and rubbed her sister’s back. “At least you don’t have to worry about it tearing during the act. The sight of blood tends to kill the mood quite rapidly. Also, make sure that you don’t have sex during your period because—”
Celestia narrowed her eyes. “I’m well aware of how my own plumbing works, Lulu.”
“Right. I was just making sure you knew. So… are you still up for going inside with me?”
Celestia shuffled her feet. “Alright. I’ll give it the old college try. But I reserve the right to leave at any time if I feel uncomfortable or if things get painfully awkward. Is that clear?”
Luna clapped her hands and grinned. “Let us be merry tonight. HUZZAH!”
Sure enough, as soon as the two sisters entered the establishment, all eyes were glued on Luna’s sexy outfit. She sauntered towards the table where Torch and Cheerilee were sitting with Celestia sheepishly following close behind. A round of friendly greetings were exchanged before the siblings got situated and orders were placed. A few pitchers of beer and boneless buffalo wings abound. Luna sat across from Cheerilee and Celestia across from Torch.
As for the other educators from CHS, they wore casual attire, if a bit more on the stylish side. Torch stuck with a red striped dress shirt that barely contained his rippling muscles, a pair of black chinos, and penny loafers. Gold aviator sunglasses were tucked into his breast pocket. He’d left the top of his shirt unbuttoned, which revealed a smattering of curly blonde chest hair and slate-green skin. A middle-aged man, Coach Torch was balding ever so slightly along the top of his head, but the rest of his short-cropped blonde hair was thick and phased into a rusty red color where his sideburns grew out. He winked at Celestia while she pushed her chair in.
“Cheerilee & I are going to mingle with the other patrons. Enjoy catching up with Torch, Tia!”
Celestia wanted to protest but she couldn’t get a word in before Luna dragged Cheerilee off to do who knows what. She hoped that her wayward sibling wouldn’t make too much of a fool out of herself tonight. If there was one thing Luna could do above all else, it was drink like a 19th century sailor. Well, beyond being a phenomenal vice-principal and the best little sister a girl could ever ask for. Torch looked at her expectantly, as if she was supposed to begin talking.
“Ready for the weekend, Madame Principal?”
Instantly flustered, Celestia paused for a moment in order to regain her composure. Even as she spoke, her mouth felt like it was stuffed full of cotton balls. “Please, I must insist that you call me Celestia when we’re not on the clock. To answer your question, yes.”
Torch stabbed a boneless wing with his fork and began chewing on it. “Me too. Most of the sports teams have already wrapped up their seasons, so that only leaves the P.E. classes. The kids haven’t been too bad but they’ve all got summer vacation on the brain. You know how it is.”
Celestia laughed nervously. “Indeed, I do. There’s always plenty of paperwork to sign!”
“So—uh—what exactly does a principal do in her free time? As for me, I like to pump iron at the gym, tease the shit outta my baby girl, and ride motorcycles. Been trying to restore a ’48 Indian but I’m having trouble finding some of the replacement parts. I won’t bore you with all the details. Mostly technical mumbo-jumbo.”
Celestia took a dainty swig of her deluxe appletini and avoided Torch’s gaze. “Oh, I… wouldn’t want to bore you with my hobbies either. They’re not very exciting, I’m afraid.”
“Go on. Tell me. I’m a pretty open-minded guy.”
Celestia played with a strand of her hair and blushed. “I enjoy fantasy role-playing tabletop games. Ogres & Oubliettes to be precise. I’m the current Dungeon Master of my guild. We get together every Sunday afternoon and play a round whenever our schedules allow. I also enjoy hiking around in nature and spending time with my daughter.”
Torch bellowed with laughter. “You’re just as dorky as I imagined you’d be!”
Celestia’s cheeks flushed a darker shade of red. This time more out of anger than embarrassment. “And you’re just as much of a muscle-bound blowhard as I imagined you’d be!”
“Woah! Take it easy there, Celestia. I didn’t mean to insult you. I’m sorry if that came out wrong. What I meant to say was that your hobbies suit your personality to the T. It’s endearing in a way. Cute even. So—uh—Sunset Shimmer is your adopted daughter, I take it?”
Celestia took in a deep breath and tried to calm down. “Correct. I adopted her a few years ago. Can you imagine? She was homeless, didn’t have any family to rely on, and stole food to survive. It’s no wonder she was such a troublemaker in school. I’m proud to say that she’s currently attending college and majoring in medical psychology.”
Torch took a sip of beer and nodded. “Aye. She was always a smart cookie. Have you spoken to Sunset lately? My wee coal cracker can be a bit brash at times, but we chat on occasion. Ember’s decided to go to a trade school, of all places. Took after her old man when it came to love for all things mechanical. Fixin’ to open up her own custom shop once she gets the proper licenses.”
“I don’t believe I’ve ever met Ember before.”
Torch chowed down on another boneless wing. “You wouldn’t have. She never attended CHS. Went to Cloudsdale Tech instead. Honestly, it was for the best. Got to hang out with like-minded individuals as opposed to tryin’ to fit in with the public-school crowd.”
Celestia furrowed her brow. “Isn’t Cloudsdale a considerable commute away?”
“Yep. I drove her there every day until she got her license. Like I said, worth it.”
Whatever opinion Celestia had of Torch before was vastly improved when she realized how much he loved his daughter. She blushed and giggled to herself like a schoolgirl while she took another sip of her appletini. “I hope you don’t think this is too forward of me for asking but… is there a Mrs. Torch in the equation?”
Torch’s expression suddenly grew somber. “She passed away when Ember was still a toddler. Developed stage four leukemia and by the time the doctors realized it, she was a dead woman walkin’. I’ve had a few flings off and on since then but it’s just not the same.”
Celestia began tearing up and placed her hand atop Torch’s, rubbing it gently. “I’m so sorry, Torch. I shouldn’t have asked you to bring up such a painful memory.”
“It’s alright. I’ve had plenty of time to come to terms with her death. Let’s talk about something happier, eh? You got any big plans over summer vacation?”
Celestia leaned back in her chair, feeling a bit tipsy from her drink. Generally speaking, she was a lightweight when it came to alcohol, which is why she didn’t like going out to bars. The last thing she wanted was to make a fool of herself in front of Torch. “Nothing terribly exciting. I was planning on going up to the cabin to unwind and reconnect with nature.”
“Huh. You’ve got one of those? I never knew that…”
Celestia played with the toothpick floating in her appletini glass. “Mhmm. It’s quite idyllic, if I do say so myself. Nestled right up against Mount Canter. Lakeside property too. Our family used to take trips up there every summer when Luna and I were kids. Those were good times.”
“A well-deserved rest, I say.”
Celestia felt her stomach fill with butterflies. She wanted to invite Torch along but wasn’t sure if doing so would be too forward. Whether it was the alcohol talking or stubborn determination, she couldn’t say. The middle-aged educator decided to plow ahead. “You know, the cabin has plenty of room for two people. If you’re not doing anything in two weeks… would you like to join me on a mini-holiday? I-I wouldn’t mind the company!”
A stretch of painfully awkward silence followed Celestia’s question as Torch mulled it over. Since his answer wasn’t an immediate yes, Celestia feared that she’d crossed the line. With a shrug, Torch finished his beer and belched. “Why the hell not? Ember’s not going to be around town anyway, so I might as well go with you. It’ll be a good change of pace for me.”
Sweet relief flooded Celestia’s senses. She practically had to bite down on her own cheeks in order to stop herself from letting out an excited, girlish squeal. “I’ll text you the directions on how to get there. Is your cell phone number still the same as it was when you listed it on the school district emergency contact sheet?”
“So far as I know. But—um—I don’t know what yours is.”
Celestia blushed, fished around in her purse, and scribbled her cell number on a napkin. “HERE! Just make sure that you don’t give this out to anyone else without my permission.”
Torch chuckled. “Wouldn’t dream of it. Welp, I better head back. I’m tired and all this beer just makes me want to fall asleep. I’ll talk to you later, Celestia.”
While Torch was leaving, Celestia waved goodbye. A visibly intoxicated Luna with Cheerilee in tow, stumbled towards the table and started giggling. “Sheeeeee! I towld yew—HIC—Torch wanted uh peeicee o’ dat PLUMP white badonkadonk! Shake it, sister! WOOOOOOO!”
Cheerilee let out an awkward chuckle when Luna passed out on top of the table. “I tried to stop her from drinking too much, but she insisted on challenging one of Applejack’s cousins to a shot-chugging contest. She—ah—emerged the victor, as you can see.”
Celestia sighed and rubbed her temples. “I’ll need to sober up myself before taking her home. Did you happen to see which of her cousins it was?”
“Caramel Apple, I think his name was. He was pretty cute too. In a hunky, country boy sort of way. I believe her intention was to invite him back to her place and have some fun in-between the sheets. Not my words, but Luna’s. Again, I’m sorry for not being able to stop her.”
Celestia grabbed hold of her unconscious sister and carried the blue-skinned woman like a fireman would. Ironic, given the namesake of the bar. “Don’t worry about it, Cheerilee. Luna’s impossible to stop once she’s put her mind to something. However, the only thing she’ll be doing in-between the sheets is sleeping off a massive hangover. I’m not looking forward to how much of a bear she’ll be upon awakening but this isn’t the first time I’ve dealt with her antics.”
Cheerilee rubbed the back of her neck. “That’s… good. See you Monday, then?”
“Enjoy the remainder of your weekend, Cheerilee.”
Two weeks passed since Torch last saw Celestia at the Rusty Fire Hydrant. For the sake of remaining professional and to stop rumors from spreading, the two educators agreed to keep their interest in each other a secret while they were still working at CHS. It hadn’t been easy, but they both managed well enough. The third week of June was the agreed upon time Torch was to drive up to Celestia’s family cabin. Not wanting to waste an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, Torch decided to take his motorcycle. The ’48 Indian wasn’t quite up to snuff yet, so he took his other bike, a cherry red custom chopper, instead. Despite the warm summer weather, he opted to don full riding gear just in case. When it came to motorcycles, safety was definitely better than sorry. Road burns and a cracked skull were no laughing matter.
About an hour into the ride, Torch received a phone call. Normally, it would be quite difficult to answer a phone when your hands weren’t readily available but he’d installed a microphone and a synchronization kit in his helmet for just such an occasion.
