Their eyes met
Chapter 3- The Revelation
Previous ChapterNext ChapterEnveloped in yellow energy, Shine's bones began making loud cracking noises as they changed his appearance to his human self.
With a mighty roar, he began punching the wall next to the door. Shortly after, he ran up to a bookcase with many items in it and just threw them onto the floor, creating one big mess of his house. He settled his anger with a few more punches on the same spot as earlier.
Panting heavily, Shine collapsed to the floor, blood slowly dripping from his busted knuckles. Derpy stood in the middle of the one giant room that was Shine's house and watched in terror at the senseless actions of Shine Yellowsoul.
She ran up to Shine and sat down next to him trying to tend to his wounds on his right hand.
- You are crazy, why did you do that for? How can you hurt yourself like that?
Derpy ran for some of the bandages Shine used earlier and tried to use them. They were very different from what she was used to so she ended up getting one stuck across her nose.
- Thanks Derpy, I'll take that.
Shine had gotten up and walked up behind Derpy. As she turned around, Shine quickly yanked off the plaster and put it on himself.
- Ow! That hurt! Hey, why did you mess up your home like that? It makes no sense.
Derpy hovered just a small distance from the floor so that she could stare into Shine's eyes. Shine looked back but with a more carefree look in his eyes.
- So, the fact that I now look like an entirely different creature doesn't bother you?
Derpy flinched slightly at the realization and gave Shine a quick scanning look.
- Hm... OK that it is a little freaky. But I don't think any differently about you just because of that.
Shine heartily laughed.
- That's mighty fine to hear, Derpy. I really like the kind that don't worry too much of your looks.
Derpy blushed in response as she landed, looking up at the tall creature smiling back at her.
- I am wondering... what... do you think of me?
- Hmm...
Shine put his hand to his chin and closely examined Derpy for a while.
- Hmm... good question, I haven't really though about it. You're kind, I guess. You also seem to always have good intentions no matter what you do.
- Really?
Shine smiled, still keeping his hand to his chin.
- Yeah, you're really nice and thoughtful. At times, perhaps a little clumsy...
Derpy began looking a little shameful.
- ...but hey, everyone can, or should I say, everyPONY can foul up every now and then.
Shine kneeled to keep his head on the same level as Derpy
- Seeing how you react tells me a lot.
Shine gently lifted Derpy's chin to look into her eyes.
- There's nothing wrong in making a mistake, as long as you don't let it weight you down.
- But what should I do when it happens?
Derpy sorrowfully looked back at Shine.
- Laugh it away.
Shine quickly responded.
- Huh?
- Laugh, giggle, make a joke out of it. Or the very least, just smile and try again. Remember; No one should be faulted for trying.
- I-I don't know if I can.
Derpy looked down with her eyes.
- 'Course you can! Perhaps not the first time, but give it a chance, try it. If that fails, just keep on trying. Sometime you gotta succeed. You haven't lost until you give up.
Derpy looked up at Shine with teary eyes and closed in on him for a hug. Derpy tightly hugged Shine's lower torso, feeling a joyful tear escape the corner of her left eye which fell down and splashed on Shine's right foot.
A while passed after which Shine cleared his throat.
- Ahem, so uh... it's getting a little awkward here.
- Oh, I'm sorry Shine.
Derpy let go of Shine with a blushed face.
- You actually, now that I think of it, seem very nice. I feel I'd like to know more about you.
- Really? Seriously?
- Yeah, for sure, why don't you come to my birthday party tomorrow? It may not me as swanky or lively as you might be used to, but I don't think you will be bored to death. Even if you would, you are free to leave if you wish.
Derpy talked to herself for while.
- Hmm... I don't think I have anything planned for tomorrow after work. And it's Saturday, so I don't think there will be that many deliveries. I don't think it would hurt to get to know a new friend every now and then.
- Then you'll come?
Shine intervened.
- Hm... Yeah, I think so. What time?
- Let's see...
Shine looked at a watch hanging on the wall.
- ...as I don't have any work for tomorrow either, I'll probably sleep in a bit and wake up around 9, perhaps 10. So, let's say... come by at 3 'o clock, I should have everything ready by then.
- 3 'o clock it is then. See you then, Shine.
Shine looked shocked at Derpy's sudden urge to leave.
- What? You don't have to leave yet? Do you?
- Sorry Shine, but I still got mail to deliver. By the way, do you know where my mailbag went?
Shine quickly pondered on the question.
- I don't remember picking up any bag when I picked you up. So I'd say it's still somewhere in the bushes. If it isn't, I can come help looking.
- It's fine Shine, thanks for everything. I think I can hold my own from now on.
With that, Derpy and Shine said their goodbyes and parted ways. As Shine watched Derpy happily trot out from his house, he felt a lump in his throat, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside of him.
- ''She seems nice, really nice in fact.''
Shine thought to himself.
- ''If anything, she got quite a nice looking butt on her.''
Shine laughed a little at himself while closing the door. Upon realizing what he just thought, he opened his right palm fully and slapped himself as hard as he could.
- ''I SO did not think like that right now.''
- Oh, I quite think you did, Shine.
Shine talked to himself, having a full conversation with his mind.
- ''Can we please pretend I DIDN'T think about it, k?''
- Fine, fine, whatever floats your Floatzel. You gotta confess though, you liked what you saw, right?
- ''Will you shut up?''
- CUPCAKES!
After Shine's obscure little conversation, he went on with the preparation for his little get-together. He went out to Sugar Cube Corner and ordered his birthday cake, a giant, green single-tier marzipan cake.
