Before them, hordes of ponies loomed over shelves of fluffy sweaters and padded tights, Rarity's cutie mark stamped on each waistband and collar proudly. And the glittering flakes of winter clumping on the windowsills painted the entire showroom in a starry pallor.
“Well soon, Rarity and your teacher will have all they can handle about fashion, thanks to you!” Sassy added. “And you’re almost done, too!” Indeed, the mirror-image of their room was forming out in Sweetie’s notepad.
“I hope so; big sis said I shouldn’t be here that long anyway.” Sweetie stared at her coat’s sleeves. “Does calfskin pucker?”

”Now, don’t worry, I can attend to you.” Sassy started, turning to the newest catch with a broad smile. “Now tell me what I can help you find on this wonderful Hearts and Hooves?”
Then Sassy saw the sharply defined jaws and trembling abs of a Diamond Dog, right at eye-level. Almost every other part of that canine was shrouded behind the collection of coats on the rack behind her. Judging by his stiff ears, uniquely green eyes, and height - a full head over hers, despite her Luna-like proportions - it was likely Rover.

Yes, Rarity had told her of them. In those exact terms, too. It was a weird yet illuminating moment for Sassy. Really, even now she didn’t know how to process it.

Saddles almost pitied the sight. Clearly, this Diamond Dog’s threads were on their last thread. But it wouldn’t be coming about by taking her today, not at all.

“Go away! Am busy!” hissed Rover.
Sassy sucked in her breath - and a line of drool she didn’t even know she’d let slip - and aimed at a far more sensitive target. Past the jacket and into the ribs, Rover finally turned to her - and started in surprise.
“Oh! Wait one minute Saddles!” Then Rover turned back to staring at Coloratura. “Am keeping other pony from noticing Rover sneak up on Saddles.”
At this point, Sassy knew Rarity would have gasped over the possibility that another mare would dare take priority over her. She worked hard to be noticed, even by those she feared. It’d be a blow to her that she’d be forgotten so quickly in their pecking order.
Sassy, however, was far more composed. So much so that she simply extended all the fingers on her left hand, then counted down. “Four. Three. Two….”
At ‘One’, the lone Diamond Dog’s ears shot up higher, if it was even possible - as he slowly turned to face the arm-crossed Sassy. A sweat-drop swelling at Rover’s brow finally fell. “Oh….” he breathed, “So Saddles noticed Rover.” Swallowing thickly, he continued. “How is fine day?”
Sassy snorted. “Better question; why are you spending yours in my Hearts and Hooves clothes racks?”
“Saddles’ rack is large and comfortable. A wonder how anycreature would not appreciate being in it.” Apparently unaware of his double entendre, Rover tensed up when he saw Sassy’s jaw drop in dull surprise. “But Rover will leave promptly as soon as talk is over.”
“Talk? Whatever could you wish to talk with me about?”
Rover fixed on a cautious smile. “Rover has noticed the lines to your place on this day of Hooves and Hearts. Clearly have good eye for clothing fit for season. Especially for… certain non-ponies stuck in cold caves all day.”
“How so?” Sassy icily asked, standing up and looming over Rover, pointing at her golden eyes. “Do keep in mind; me and my ‘good eyes’ are staying right here.” Then she followed where Rover’s eyes were going, and a bemused smirk crossed her maw. “So should yours, horndog.”
Rover almost gave himself whiplash realizing what Sassy was talking about, the heaving globes of periwinkle blue flesh before him bobbing as Sassy chuckled. “Oh! Oh no!” he spluttered. “Rover was simply looking at… fantastic coat. Surely keeps Saddles warm in snowy days.”
“It does.” Sassy slid an arm down the cobbled fabric of her trenchcoat, the warm feel of the Heat-Her-Up Hex laced into it thrumming through her nerves. “Half pressed gemstones, half imitation cragadile skin. And this is the only onyx version of the coat in existence.“ Her eyes swung to the far less impressive number Rover had on, the edges of it barely enough to keep his pebbled nipples out of sight. “But one thing they all have in common - they’re not free.”
“Ah, perfect!” Rover said. “Naturally we are flush with valuable diamonds.”
“Most in raw ore.” Sassy sniffed. “Apologies... your name again?”
“Rover, of course.”
“Ah. Still, I’d rather not have to drill for my commission when other customers are available.”
“S-speaking of…” came the voice from a cream-colored pony with a cropped blue mane before Sassy. “I’m from Manehattan, and like to make a purchase.” Her eyes darted over to the Diamond Dog encased in the rack next to Sassy. “A-along with some… other inquiries.”
“You heard Coco Pommel.” Sassy airily said. “Do scooch out from the jackets, Rover. We shall talk shop later.”
“Rover will pay you double what other customer offers to talk customer’s business later.”
Sassy raised an eyebrow, but still turned to Coco. “My apologies, ma’am. If you could tell me what it is you’re looking for?"
“Well... it’s not me, it’s M-miss Polomare. B-but it’s mostly acting clothes for the Hearts and Hoove-”
“Should be the far left aisle. Please, if you would...” Sassy hurriedly shooed off Coco.
“Was that a customer, Miss Saddles?” came a muffled gasp from the bathroom door. “ If you want I could-”
“Stay where you are, Belle! I’m not done with our… special delivery yet.” An agitated whine echoed from behind that polished door, but otherwise all stayed quiet on Sassy’s western front. “Now tell me why you haven't left your spot since I spotted you.”
Rover withered under Sassy's penetrating glare. “Rover swears he means no har-”
“Package for Miss Saddles.”
A frown broke into Sassy’s otherwise demure face as she turned around to the new attendant at her stand. “I told you before, Coco, we’ll talk lat-you’ve got to be kidding me.”
For right in front of Sassy was another Diamond Dog, just at her height, and far bulkier under his thin clothing than Rover. However, he had more of it on - a pair of sunglasses that his yellow eyes still glinted through, a series of saddlebags that looked almost comically large over his front, and a hastily taped-shut box between his claws.
“Ponyville mailer Fido here, looking over packages for a Miss…” He raised his glasses and narrowed his eyes at the messy writing atop the box’s label. “...Sardines?”
“Saddles, you plothole! How Fido not remember what Fido wrote!?” Rover growled.
Now it was Fido’s turn to splutter as he looked anywhere but the rack of clothes hiding his companion. “Fido would please beg Saddles to not notice coat rack. Surely others not as important as signing for supply of gems!”
“Saddles is aware of Rover, Fido! Drop act now!” Rover shot back.
“Great, Rover!” Fido threw down his glasses, but the box stayed firmly set at pelvis-level. Sassy didn’t complain though. A part of snapping fingers made both Diamond Dogs’ ears perk up, as they turned back to Sassy. Her grin was so wide it almost hurt. “Gentledogs…” she cooed. “Would I be correct in assuming you’re both here for the same comforts?”
“... yes,” Fido said, shooting Rover a dirty look. ”Fido hope Saddles will help us with problem.”
“Well, as I’m sure Rover knows, we’ve quite the amount of Hearts and Hooves wear - both over and under,” Sassy said. “I assume you're in the mood for something under?” Her eyes panned over Fido’s very worn coat disapprovingly.
“Probably.”
“Fine then.” Sassy tugged at her coat’s collar. “Under your word that I will not be spirited away if you don't like the price that Rover helped bump up for you.”
Fido bared his teeth at Rover. “Rover would like to see this under-dress the-oh!”
With a sensual shrug, Sass’s coat fell back over her chair, flattening out over the lacquered lumber. “Rover already said that it was to brave the conditions in our mine-”

“Feel like explaining, Fido?” No response, and he only clutched the box near his loins closer. Sassy sighed, “Fine. Guess your faithful leader will.”
Stepping in front of the cowering canine in the coat racks, Sassy’s horn blazed with fizzling orange-gold light. Soon, every coat next to Rover did the same before flying apart, exposing him fully to Sassy.
And for the second time that day, a jaw dropped.

Sweetie nearly sprang up out of her chair at her older sister’s odd behavior. “Sis? Is something wrong? Should I cal-”
“No, my dear!” Rarity's eye returned to normal and her spell halted. “Just…” And her lip pursed in contemplation. “It seems Sassy has beaten my ‘at-once’ record.” ‘I’m not sure what I should be feeling right now...angry that she took such a heinous risk around my sister, or jealous that she didn’t let me in on it!’
“Oh. Okay.” Sweetie slumped back in her seat, the wind taken out of her sails. “Am I... ever gonna know what your ‘at-once record’ means?”
“When you’re older, dear sister.” Rarity said. “And then Spearhead, Spike...” She sucked her lip again. “And Sassy can tell you all about it.” Giving a cursory glance towards the Canterlot Boutique that still held the pack- Sassy, Rarity withheld another lustful shudder as she offered a guiding hand to Sweetie Belle. “Now, let us depart and leave Sassy to...further discuss matters with those fu-fine gentledogs!”
“Okay. D’you... think you could make some cocoa when we get back?” Sweetie prodded, gazing imploringly at her posh sister.
“But of course, darling!” Rarity beamed gratefully, now that her sister had dropped the previous topic. “I’ll even make your favorite blend. The weather tonight is simply dreadful, and you deserve a treat for being such a big help today.”
Rarity found her gaze wandering back to her Canterlot store again, and she couldn’t help but bite her lip. ‘BIG help, indeed! Goodness gracious, they’d gotten even bigger since then...’ She felt herself winking into her pantyhose, jolting her out of her distraction before Sweetie had a chance to notice.
“All right, awesome!” Sweetie squeaked.
Chuckling demurely, Rarity reflected her younger sister’s enthusiasm. “Quite!”
The pair strolled serenely through the snowy Canterlot streets, warmed by the glow of the streetlamps as they made it to the train station just in time for its last Ponyville run of the night.
