EST Storm. Not an ordinary storm, a potential tornadic storm...at night. Not good. A black 2007 Ford F-150 XL tore down Pemberville Rd. going toward U.S 6 "Oh boy, no way ANYONE will see this tornado coming." the driver said. He saw a flash of white light a quarter mile down the road that scared him. Hold the phone. What was that? It was no lightning strike.And then, “WHOA SHIT!” And just like that, he pounded his E-Brake and came to a halt mere inches from the figure...12 of them. The driver stepped out of his truck, bringing his Midland NOAA radio with just in case. “Uh hi,” the driver said, “who are you 12?” The tallest figure steps into the headlight and boy was she pretty. “My name is Twilight Sparkle.” She said, “What’s your name?” “Garrett Harner,” he said. At that point, the NOAA went off… “TORNADO WARNING IN EFFECT IN WOOD COUNTY. AT 10:30 PM EST, A THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO WAS SITED IN SANDUSKY COUNTY GOING WEST AT 15 MPH. SOURCE: RADAR INDICATED. THE SAFEST PLACE IS IN AN UNDERGROUND BUNKER OR CELLAR. STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION. Then it ended with the beeps and silence. Garrett looked east as a lightning flash showed the swirling column. “ OH SHIT! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!” he yelled. And boy was it hard getting ponies in the cab/bed of the truck so way too close for comfort. THE NEXT MORNING An annoying sound echoed through the 2000 sq ft APT, the sound of an alarm set for 10 AM. “Ugh. Alexa, stop,” muttered Garrett as he talked to his Amazon Alexa. I need coffee stat. Dunkin’ Doughnuts. Everyone else was still sleeping so Garrett grabbed his keys. As he was about to head out when a filly tugged at his leg. “Can I come with you?” she asked. “I'm going down the street. One of Earth's greatest inventions is coffee,” Garrett said. “Please?” she asked with puppy eyes this time. I can't resist the puppy eyes, oh why god did you do this to me? “Ok fine. But when we get to the Drive-Thru window, you need to duck out of sight,” he said. “Yay!” When they walked outside, there was snow. “Why is there snow?” “Welcome to Ohio,” Garrett said with a sigh. “Can this day get any worse?” he said rhetorically. Last night was a jerk as the tornado was set as an EF1 going towards New Rochester, OH and there were no sirens until Bradner and Bowling Green, OH, so that would have been bad. But luck was on their side and dissipated ½ mile away. Then the truck popped a tire on a nail and took a bit to replace it. Now there was snow... in July. Author's Note Well here goes nothing. If this so far sucks please let me know and I'll try to improve it Also I'm a one man team so getting chapters released will take time Chapter 2 INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH PONIESCHAPTER 2 INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH PONIES July 4th, 2023 After getting coffee and food for the others, they discussed the plan for the day ahead. “Tell y'all what, there's a firework show at Bowling Green State University and it's open to the public.” Garrett said after checking the news on his phone, “the high for today is 80 so this snow should melt and dry before the evening.” “What's the occasion?” Rarity asked curiously. “4th of July aka Independence Day.” Garrett said, “The day the Declaration Of Independence was signed even though it was the 2nd but it is what it is. And if that's the case, we need Sparklers and other items.” “Where would we find those things?” Rarity asked worryingly. “Walmart, Kroger, Meijer, Ben’s. And there's a Kay Jewelers quarter-mile away on Main Street I'm fine with stopping there.” A sense of joy was in Rarity’s smile. “I need to get a YouTube video recorded for this holiday,” Garrett said to himself while finding his keycard. “Also need to stop at the CTC Depot to get a trailer for tonight.” “Why?” Starlight Glimmer asked. “All 12 of you barely fit in the bed of the truck and it's the XL Edition of an F-150. So we need a trailer and I got the perfect one, my custom RV trailer.” Then Garrett turned his Xbox and tv on and found the CBS game show Jeopardy! hosted by Alex Trebek. Everyone in the room went silent as it played. At the end, however, a round of clips from the start of his career to his death in 2020. “3 years later, and he still is missed,” Garrett said with sadness. “Well nevermind that, I’ll be back in 15 minutes. I don't want to say this but for safety, don’t burn the place down. Ok?” “Ok.” everyone said in unison. 15 Minutes later Garrett drove up with an RV. It was white with a blue cab with the name LUX 1 and the company and number CTC Transit 3059 in red on the side. “The trailer had an axle snap.” Garrett said, “But this RV has the same capacity. So this will do.” later on it was time for the fireworks and boy did they have a good spot. They were on top of the RV with a grill and other knick-knacks from stores and one thing Garrett thought was weird when they didn't make a fuss about the steak on the grill as he had brought his dispatcher for the Ohio Division of CTC and a buddy he knew since 7th grade. And embarrassment had made itself present as Garrett's parents were at the show and they spotted him on the truck. "Hey son, how are you?" his dad yelled to him. Ah fuck, should have known. "Um, hi mom and dad. What a lovely surprise. Sorry, can't talk right now. Love ya! Bye." Garrett said as he dropped into the RV. that was nerve-wracking. After the show, the kids got dropped off and sent to bed and the grown-ups went to The Stones Throw Tavern and Grill at the corner of Wooster St. and Prospect St. And got drunk. Garrett was under the limit but didn't trust himself not to kill someone while driving. Later on, they went back to the apartment with Rarity driving as she was sober. Apparently, she does not drink so that was good and nobody knew how she was able to drive a 2-ton machine (that went over 200 MPH when in gear 10). Garrett had suspicion on that matter, find out later on if she wants a license. Got that spell ready Twilight?” Garrett asked as they approached the parking booth, “Yes, it is!” Twilight said excitedly, “Go ahead and apply it but leave me out of it please,” 5 minutes later, Garrett handed the keys to the guy who runs the valet parking, which is $75. The group split up at the gate so that Garrett could pick up the 13 Gold Passes while Storm Runner and King got day passes. The 13 passes in total were $5000 + the 2 day passes = $5.5k. After that,the group went through security and then the main gate, “I got single-channel radios to keep in touch, meet at the 50’s diner at noon. Use the maps provided, $1000 for the other things around the park, and put these on your hooves.” “Why?” Starlight asked, “These are called Fast Pass, they allow you to get on a Fast Pass applicable ride first. Now let's go have some fun!” Garrett yelled, “YEAH!” they all yelled in unison. 2 HOURS LATER As everyone grabbed a table, Garrett breathed heavily, “wow half the day already… What did you all do?” After everyone said what they did, Garrett suggested they take the train to the other end of the park. When they arrived, it was too late as the train just got moving. “Let's find somewhere on the platform and wait 15-30 minutes for the next train.” Shining Armor had teleported from the portal to CP while running, at that point Garrett got clocked by him as he went full speed. “OW! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!” Garrett exclaimed in pain, “Oh, one more pony to add onto the spell. There we go.” Twilight said as Garrett got up and stared Shining dead in the eye, “What the actual buck, why?” Just then, the next train pulled into the station, 5 min later they started off. The next 15 minutes were fine even though Garrett hurt, a lot. Once they departed the car, Storm Runner practically knocked the group down like bowling pins as she ran for a recent ride, Steel Vengeance. "Yea not happening, I'm not one for vertical and looping rides," Garrett said when he recovered 11:00 P.M "There's a concert over by Wicked Twister on the Midway, wanna see it?", Garrett asked, "Who's playing?", the filly Flurry Heart asked, "Florida Georgia Line with Luke Brian as their last song of the night is "This Is How We Roll"." Later the gang walked back to the valet parking booth to get the car, Shining had started asking questions right after walking out of the gate. Lol. Everypony had fallen asleep not 2 minutes after leaving, Storm Runner sat in the passenger seat, "Oh boy am I tired." Garrett said after a yawn, " Pull over and I'll take the wheel." Midway through the trip however, Twilight spotted a figure on the side of the road. So Garrett pulled over, honked the horn and the figure emerged. “Oh my god. Another one. WHY?!” A red pony with a lighter shade of hot pink with blue eyes with a tornado as her cutie mark. “Hi, can I get a ride?” she asked. “Um sure, but this ride is going to Sandusky,” Garrett said. “Fine by me.” She hopped in the passenger seat with no assistance. Well, that's odd, she needed no help getting up and is sitting upright. “So got a name?” Garrett asked in wonder, “Storm Runner.” That shocked him enough to swerve into opposing traffic. “Wait a minute, what?” “I just said. Is there a problem?” she replied “Nope,” Garrett said As the RV merged onto Ohio Route 2 Garrett thought 10 miles to go and we're entering city limits, nothing can go wrong at this point But you never want to say or think that. It was another day in the apartment and everypony was milling about when Garrett popped in to say something, "I'm looking to drop by the fair today and enroll for the demo derby on the last day. Anypony wanna come?" "I'll go," Shining Armor said, "I need to get out of this place for a bit." "Fair enough, then let's get going before fair traffic increases. 'Bout an hour 'till opening," they walked/trotted out the door and to the car. After starting the car Garrett asked, "Hungry? Bowling Green has a lot of restaurants in the area, here let me open the map," Garrett opens Google Maps on his laptop and turns it so it's facing Shining "You still owe me an explanation of this world's technology and what is "Bob Evens"?" "Bob Evens is a country-style restaurant that serves a range of food and fun fact the business was started in Rio Grande, Ohio in 1948. Wanna go there?" "Sure" After ordering some takeout, they got in the car, "Wagon Wheel" by Darius Rucker came on after turning on Spotify and Garrett started singing. After 10 minutes, they pulled into the Authorized Personnel entrance as Garrett was on the Fair Committee so he got free access. After getting out of the car, Shining was in awe at the sights and smells, "it's wonderful!" "We will come back in a few days. OK?" Garrett said as they approached the signup booth. "Hi! What event would you like to enroll for?" the teller asked. "Hi, I would like to enroll in the demo derby on the last day. Car number is 325, the class is large, and the sponsor is CTC LLC." "And what is your name?" "Garrett Harner," "Alright, you are all set. See you when the derby is held. bye!" "Bye," Garrett and Shining walked back to the car as the County Sheriff pulled in. After pulling out and getting on the road, Shining wanted to know who that guy was, "WCSO Sheriff." After arriving at the apartment, Garrett said, "If you want, you can drive the car on the day of the derby. let me know in a few days."
