How It Should Have Ended - FiMfiction
Meh, you do you Sunset
Load Full Story"...You understand the danger of having that journal in the wrong hands better than anyone."
Silence filled the room as Twilight considered Sunset's words. While Twilight was thinking, Sunset took the opportunity to take a closer look at her old friend.
Twilight had filled out nicely over the past decade and a half, with a lush, curvy body, a full bosom, and flawless lavender skin. Her pink-striped purple hair was tied up in a bun, which emphasized the soft roundness of her face. Her violet eyes sparkled with intelligence as she gazed thoughtfully at Sunset.
Finally, Twilight spoke.
"Meh. I'm good."
...
...
...
Sunset...wasn't expecting this.
Twilight agreeing to help Sunset? She was hoping for it. Twilight going nuclear and yelling at Sunset to leave? She was prepared for it. Heck, she was expecting Twilight to just go to her desk, sit down, and start working to ignore the fact that Sunset was there? Eh, slim chance.
But Twilight just giving a non-commital 'Meh," she wasn't.
"Meh?"
"Meh." She said, before grabbing her briefcase and walking over to her desk to start grading papers and reading her emails.
"What do you mean 'meh' ?!" Sunset nearly screamed.
"I meant, 'meh', " Twilight said, not bothering to look up from her papers. "You want my help, I don't want to help you. That's the end of it."
"But...but what about the stolen journal?!?" Sunset was about to tear her hair out. Just a 'meh'?
"Honestly, Sunset," Twilight said, pinching the bridge of her nose, "I could probably care less about magic at this point." She stood up and gestured out of her window.
"I've already learned my lesson from the times I've dealt with magic, Sunset." Twilight sighed. "My first time, I blew up half of the school and nearly ripped apart the fabric of space and time. My second?" She gestured to her safe, which held her geode under 3 layers of security. "I nearly lost to that same dark magic again, and we ended up destroying a summer camp that we only saved by the power of music. The third time I had my memories wiped, the fourth I was trapped in an endless room near permanently. The fifth time, we ended up crashing our cruise ship, and 6 and 7 resulted in one girl going power crazy like me and a crime lord having to be sent to a federal penitentiary." She sat down and groaned. "And let's not forget about when you tried to kill me, twice no less."
She sat up, and groaned, "I'm tired Sunset. I'm tired of nearly dying, of betrayals and destruction, all for the sake of magic or some other bull." She waved to the door, "So please, Mrs. Shimmer, good day, and goodbye."
"But, you're trusting me to handle magic Twilight?" Sunset asked confused.
"No, I'm trusting you to be an idiot, Sunset," Twilight growled, then laughed at her friend's - former friend's - confusion. "I mean, think about it Sunset. The fact that you're here indicated you need my help one way or another to find your journal, which I won't do, so I can safely say you won't find diddly-squat of your journal ever again."
"AND," She pointed at Sunset, "If this person knew how to work with Equestrian Magic, I'm sure you and your friends can go save the day with Harmony or some crap like you did the last 3 times."
"But Twilight!" Sunset nearly slammed her hands on the table, "Please! I need your help! Don't you feel it, the magic calling, beckoning for you to use it once more?"
"I mean, I kinda did," Twilight rolled her eyes, "But I repressed it every time with the fact you sent me to the ICU thanks to magic. It kinda shuts down from there."
She gestured to the door, "Good day, Mrs. Shimmer, may we never see each other again."
Sunset looked at Twilight one more time as if pleading for her to change her mind, only to be met with some aggressive grunts and a pointed stare, before she angrily walked away from the campus.
AFTERMATH
Try as she might, Sunset had no knowledge of how to find the journal. Her abilities to work with magic in a low-magic world amounted to nothing, and by the end of the week both her, Starlight, and even their entire science division couldn't figure out where to begin.
Adagio, while she did steal the Cloverbloom, couldn't introduce magic into the world since she had no physical connection to make a portal to Equestria, and the Cloverbloom eventually withered away and died. She went back to Equinox to try and steal more magical artifacts but was caught when Sunset was working overtime in the lab and caught her in the act.
The girls all heard of Sunsets' encounter with Twilight, and all of them went to try and convince the scientist otherwise. Fluttershy ran out crying, Applejack had her stetson ripped in half and lit on fire, Pinkie had her hair deflated permanently, Rarity had her notebook soaked in coffee, and Rainbow Dash couldn't do squat because Twilight held the government contract she had for one of her super metals over her head, threatening to back out of it if Rainbow touched her. Starlight herself tried to go go to Twilight to talk her into helping them, but she was met with second-degree burn marks and 'Oops! I'm sorry, maybe you shouldn't meet me next time. You never know if another experiment of mine goes wrong, huh?"
Equinox Labs eventually went under, as the Weather Corporations that were the prime subsidies for the company were sued into bankruptcy for somehow monopolizing nature itself, and Equinox couldn't come up with any new ideas to make a new invention without having magic being a focal point of them.
Twilight just laughed at her former friend's misery as she managed to win a Nobel Prize for her work in the theoretical field of super metals. She never touched magic again, and was a proud lady for doing so
