The Smallest Star at Twilight
Author's Note
Hi, so yeah, this is probably going to be a very long piece of work, and it's around a bunch of redesigns I made there are going to be a few major points in Equestria that have changed, this is very much an alternate reality. But I hope you all enjoy it, and I will be adding my own redesigns at the bottom cause sometimes describing them will go wrong.
Oh and the cover is also made by me, all art within this story is my own.
Chapter One
Twilight Sparkle was a usually happy filly at home with the love of her parents and big brother, but whilst at school, she was withdrawn and shy – her horn was shorter than it should have been, and it was often used as the subject of her torment. It didn’t help that she often struggled casting even the smallest of spells.
One afternoon found Twilight against her more common bullies, the unicorn friends Cinnamon Swirl, Meadow Glider, Summer Song, and Mist Wish. Twilight looked at the bullies before her as she shrunk and backed up, her flank hitting a tree. She looked back at it before turning to her aggressors who were giggling.
“Wow, your sense of direction is as useless as your horn.” Cinnamon Swirl giggled. Twilight frowned and made herself as small as she could against the tree.
“What do you think you four are doing?” A voice demanded, causing the young fillies to look up, including the scared Twilight. A golden Unicorn was looking down at the four crowding around Twilight, behind her were several other ponies, all looking concerned.
“We’re just playing.” Meadow Glider answered, trying to look innocent.
“There is no point in lying.” The pony sighed, she stepped over the younger ponies to Twilight. “Hey, are you okay Sweetheart?” Twilight looked away, half wishing that she would vanish. The pony smiled sadly, before lifting Twilight up with magic. “Come on Sweetheart, we’re going to get you all patched up okay?” She put Twilight down in the middle of her friends.
“We were just heading back to Sunset’s dorm – we were planning to try some new mane care routines, how about you join us! It will be so much fun!” A Pegasus beamed; Twilight looked unsure.
“We’ll talk about it later Nutmeg, anyway, let’s go.” Sunset smiled, Twilight took one look at her angry bullies before following alongside Sunset and her friends who slowed to allow the filly to keep up.
“Whoa.” Twilight stopped as she looked up the tower that was Sunset’s dorm. The older pony giggled; Twilight looked at her.
“That was my exact reaction when I was first shown it. Wait until you see inside.” Sunset beamed, the Unicorn lifted her up and placed Twilight on her back. The filly stared around as she took in the dorm room as the friends all entered. The walls were filled with books with notes poking out of a few.
“There.” Sunset put the final plaster over Twilight’s injuries. “How does that feel?” She asked.
“Better, thank you.” Twilight smiled.
“Aren’t you just the cutest!” Another Unicorn giggled, her silver mane tied back and her coat a soft baby blue. “I think we should all introduce ourselves to be honest. I’m Silver Melody.”
“I’m Nutmeg Velvet, nice to meet you!” The Pegasus beamed, her coat was a bright red velvet, her main black.
“Glitter Monsoon, at your service!” A sapphire-coated unicorn with a turquoise mane said.
“I’m Crescent Glory!” An Earth pony beamed his coat a deep blue, and a mane of gold.
“I’m Oaken Sentinel.” A Forest green Pegasus with a startling silver mane smiled softly.
“And I am Sunset Shimmer, what’s your name Little one?”
“Twilight Sparkle.” Twilight gave a small smile. “Thank you for helping me.”
“Oh Sweetie, it was only right of us, they shouldn’t have been ganging up on you,” Sunset told her.
“Such behavior is unbecoming of ponies living in Canterlot.” Monsoon huffed. “I am glad we happened to pass by.”
“Wait, Twilight Sparkle? You have a big brother, right?” Sentinel asked.
“Yeah, My big brother best friend forever!” Twilight nodded; the ponies cooed softly.
“I study with him, we’re both in the royal guard training program. He talks non-stop about you!” Sentinel beamed. “He is always talking about his cute little sister.” Twilight blushed.
“He really talks about me?” Twilight asked.
“Of course, why wouldn’t he? It's clear he really loves and cares for you.” Sentinel reassured the filly.
“Well, my horn-” Twilight raised a hoof to her tiny horn.
“Ah, let me guess, ponies think just because your horn isn’t growing properly it means you’re not as good as them,” Sunset said. Twilight bowed her head sadly. Sunset stood up. “Then it's official! Twilight Sparkle, I hereby name you a member of our friendship group! And sweetie, I’m going to teach you how you are perfect just as you are!” Twilight stared at her in shock.
“Sunset, sit down.” Nutmeg giggled. “And Twilight dear, we meet up all of the time, mostly for studying together. But we’d be happy to have you join us, even if it is just to protect you against the bullies.”
“Really?” Twilight asked, eyes brimming with hope, but her body trembled with trepidation, maybe even a disbelief or fear. Sunset already planned to make the ones who hurt her pay.
“Of course! You should mention this to your brother, he really does adore you, and I'm sure he will help you out with this.” Sentinel added.
“I’ll try.” Twilight nodded. Sunset chuckled and ruffled her mane.
“Just do your best and it will work out. How about we walk you home for now. We’d like to explain what we saw to your parents too.” Sunset told her; Twilight nodded.
“Oh look at the night sky! We were out so much later than I realized.” Sunset frowned.
“I love the night,” Twilight whispered softly, causing the older ponies to look at her, the little filly was staring at the sky with wide eyes and a smile. “It’s just so beautiful and look at all the stars! Oh, there’s Orion -” Twilight pointed out the constellation along with a few others. Sunset looked at her friends and laughed while lifting Twilight up onto her back once more.
“Where’s Orion again?” She asked, Twilight happily pointed it out again, smiling as the older ponies eagerly exclaimed they could see it too.

“Sunset Shimmer, I never see you or your friends up this late.” Princess Luna looked up from her sister’s student to where her friends were walking away to go home. As the ruler of the night, Princess Luna often checked the gardens of canterlot castle before she began her dream searching. She was most surprised to see her older sister's student out and about as the moon rose in the sky.
“We met a little filly who was being bullied. I was helping her and we just walked her back home together to explain the situation to her parents – after we helped patch her up of course.” Sunset explained, bowing her head politely to the Ruler of the Night.
“I hope she wasn’t too scared – I know some young foals are afraid of the night.” Luna frowned lightly, genuinely concerned for the foal. Sunset chuckled.
“Actually, she loves the night and loved pointing out all the constellations she could see. Anyways, I should head to bed myself, good night princess.” Sunset bowed her head and headed back to her dorms, leaving Luna behind to ponder her words.
Here are a fair few Redesign Images - I am still working on more that will appear in later chapters once they are done. All of the main six is done, just waiting for them to appear within the story.
