The Gate: A Strange New World

It was a pleasant day in Equestria; the birds were singing, and the hustle and bustle of ponies living out their day-to-day lives filled the streets of Canterlot. Canterlot was a huge settlement seated on the side of a mountain. An imposing castle nestled atop the city like a guardian watching over its citizens. Inside resided Princess Celestia, ruler over all of Equestria. She was a regal white Alicorn with a magical flowing mane and massive wings. She sat in her throne room, going over paperwork with her assistant. After signing it, all her assistants left immediately to deliver or file them. Celestia got up and trotted out to see her number one pupil, Twilight.

She crossed a long stone bridge that led toward a small tower. She knocked on the door, and when it opened, a small dragon greeted her.

“Oh, Celestia.” he ran back inside to inform Twilight.

Twilight then came rushing to the door.

“Hi Celestia, is something wrong?”

Celestia chuckled

“No, no, Twilight, I just came to check up on you and your studies”

“Oh, it’s going great. I’ve learned so many new magic spells,”

Twilight and Celestia walked into her place, which was filled with books and papers. Spike was picking them up and placing them back on the shelves.

“Yeah, she sure has”

Celestia was proud of her student but felt that something was missing.

“OOH, I found something particularly interesting,” Twilight said

She then rummaged through piles of books until she found what she was looking for.

“Look here,” as she held up a book with a cryptid image on it.

“It says here that many moons ago, a mystic creature magically appeared out of nowhere to help the ponies fight an ancient evil that plagued the land. The creature, they say, was hairless, tall, and walked on two legs. He was adorned with a long dark cloak and armor, and his eyes glowed red from his helmet, they referred to him as the Regnar, and after the battle was over, he was never seen or heard from again”

“Come on, Twilight, all that stuff is just a bunch of hooey nonsense there’s no way a creature like that exists”

“Say what you will, Spike; however, this creature was well documented by first-hand accounts”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” as Spike picked up the books again

Celestia knew that perhaps Twilight had been cooped up in her studies for too long.

“Why don’t you take a break, Twilight you seem to have been studying for quite some time, rest is good for a young mind like yours”

Twilight knew Celestia was right.

“Okay, come on Spike, why don’t we go to Pony joes”

“Sounds delicious”

They both left Celestia alone; she picked up the book containing the image of the creature again. She took a good long look before placing the book on the counter. She turned to the door as she looked back at the book.

“Someday”
