The Gate: A Strange New World
Epilouge
Previous ChapterBack in the United States, the President was sitting behind his desk in the Oval Office with his hand in his face, trying to figure out what went wrong with the operation.
“There’s no way they could have known, right?” as he turned to the computer screen on his desk as Sergeant Haynes was on the receiving end.
“Right, sir I was with him the whole time”
“So how could they, unless they can read minds?”
“Highly unlikely, sir, according to Rommel’s notes, their magic only works when close to one another. I was with Rommel the entire night and didn’t notice any of these ponies use magic on him”
“Great, we are back at square one with useless blood that had to be incinerated”
“What if we convince the ponies to come here and say that if one of them was injured? I'm sure we could extract blood from them then,”
“But Rommel would be watching them closely, and I hate to have to kill him at such a young age besides, the Princess seems to trust him more than anyone else, if anything happens to him, lord knows what she might do to us”
“I wonder if there was any we could have just one of them for a few hours just to collect everything we need, then we could launch a counterattack”
“I highly doubt any of them would be willing to do so; you’d have to kidnap them if that were the case”
“Well, what do we do in the meantime, sir?”
“Only thing we can do, Haynes, just let Rommel do what he must, and maybe they’ll let us through in a few years, give or take”
“That’s a long time to wait, sir”
“I know, but it’s our only safe option at this point keep me posted.” The President hung.
Haynes sat at his desk, looking at his blank screen as he turned to the major and he was going over reports. He thought about kidnapping one of the ponies, but why stop at one when he could two or even six? He shook his head and disregarded the thought. However, the thought lingered in the back of his mind: just what if?
