MLP Meets Yu-Gi-Oh Volume 1

It all started one day in Ponyville. It seemed like an average day as everypony went about their usual day to day routine, but then, things changed. From out of the sky, something was about to rain down.

"What? Is there a giant cloud overhead?" Rainbow Dash asked herself, but when she looked up, she found that she was seriously wrong.

"WHOA!!" she cried out as Rainbow flew out of the way of the falling object in the nick of time. Whatever it was, it landed in an open field with a thud. When the dust cleared, all the ponies nearby saw that the object was a tablet. But not just any tablet, a tablet with a picture of a dragon on it.

"I gotta go get Twilight and the others!" Rainbow said in alarm and she dashed off to get her friends. Soon, the whole team was assembled and were baffled at the sight of the tablet.

"What do you think it is, Twilight?" asked Spike. But his friend was just as perplexed as the others.

"I don't know, Spike. But it looks like a stone tablet with a picture of a dragon carved on it." Twilight finally answered. The others cautiously approached the tablet, and it seemed harmless as they touched it. However, they soon heard another thud, this time from far away. They all raced to the source of the thud, which was in town, and soon found another tablet in the middle of town.

"Another one?" asked Rarity. Now the whole town was curious as the team, but then their curiosity turned to panic as more tablets fell in different parts of town. The rain didn't last long though, and Twilight worried that something was wrong.

"We better go ask Princess Celestia about this. Maybe she has some kind of idea as to what in tarnation is causing this." Applejack spoke. So the group headed for Canterlot Castle to get guidance from the princess. They soon reached the castle and the throne room.

"Princess Celestia, do you know what those stone tablets are and why they're appearing all over Ponyville and Equestria?" asked the worried Twilight.

"I'm afraid I do know, Twilight. And it's tied into an ancient legend from another dimension." the kind princess said softly.

Pinkie Pie was more excited than expected. "I have a feeling this is gonna lead to a super fun quest in another dimension!" she yelled out.

"What kind of legend?" asked Rainbow. Princess Celestia sat on her throne and began the tale.

"Those tablets come from another dimension, but for some reason they're landing here in our own. The monsters on each tablet are known as Duel Spirits." Celestia explained, but the very mention of the words 'monsters' and 'spirits' caused Fluttershy to shiver.

"Monsters? Spirits?" she asked worriedly.

"I'm afraid so." Celestia answered as she continued. "This other dimension has ancient magic of its own. You see, years ago in that dimension, in a country known as Egypt, home to ancient structures known as the Pyramids and a lengthy river called the Nile, the rulers and sorcerers of the country, called humans, played a game of great and terrible power. They called these contests Shadow Games, or commonly referred to as Shadow Duels, and the loser of a Shadow Game would end up losing their soul and be banished to a dark realm called the Shadow Realm."

The group was shocked by the very concept of these games, as Celestia went on.

"However, these duels grew out of the control of the people who would start them, and they erupted into a war that threatened to destroy the entire human world." Celestia said grimly.

"Oh, my." said Fluttershy in fear.

"Think you can show us what these humans and this place called Egypt looked like?" asked Rainbow, who was more of a see rather than hear kind of pony. Celestia agreed and gave the group projected pictures of the pyramids, the people who lived in Egypt, and the Nile river as she continued.

"This war lasted for a long time, until a brave and powerful ruler of Egypt, known as a pharaoh, locked the Shadow Game magic away, imprisoning it within 7 golden objects known as the Millennium Items. However, I fear that with the tablets raining down from the sky, I fear that some of these items may have fallen into evil hands." Celestia said as her story ended.

"So you want us to go to this dimension and find these items?" asked Twilight.

"No, it would be impossible to determine how many items were taken and who would have them. But, there is one item that I know is in good hands." answered Celestia. "You see, 5,000 years after the Millennium Items were buried in order to prevent the Shadow Realm magic from being released, one of the items, known as the Millennium Puzzle, was discovered by archaeologist, Solomon Muto, and it was given to his grandson, Yugi. Within time, he solved it, and unlocked the magic within. I don't know if I'm right, but I believe he has the magic of the puzzle in his body."

The group was amazed by the the revelation. Soon, Celestia handed Twilight the dimensional scissor.

"Twilight, take the dimensional scissor and go see Yugi. I believe his puzzle and the secrets it has may be the key to this mystery." she said to her student.

"We won't let you down, Celestia." said Twilight with confidence. And so, using the dimensional scissor to open a gateway, the brave heroes traveled all the way to a city, but realized that they became human themselves.

"What in tarnation?! We're human!" said Applejack in surprise. However, Pinkie was just fine with her new form, quickly managing to walk on two legs instead of four and work out what her new hands were for.

"My, we're wearing school uniforms!" said Rarity in amazement. And indeed, the girls were wearing traditional school uniforms for girls, while Spike was wearing a traditional suit for boys. Soon, Pinkie spotted something, or someone, intriguing.

"Hey! Is that kid with the large spikey hair the Yugi kid we're looking for?" she asked. Everyone looked and soon saw Yugi Muto, a young boy with spiked hair, and more importantly, a golden upside down pyramid around his neck.

"It must be, because the pyramid around his necklace must be the Millennium Puzzle!" she said as soon as she spotted the puzzle. The girls ran up to him.

"Excuse us, but is your name Yugi Muto?" Spike asked.

"Yes, that's my name. I haven't seen you around Domino City before. Who are you?" Yugi asked back.

"My name is Twilight Sparkle, and these are my friends Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Spike." Twilight said with a smile. Yugi looked puzzled at the names of the strangers.

"Are those nicknames?" he asked.

"Uh, sure. Those are just our nicknames we go by, except for Spike. We just got into town some time ago." Twilight said, but the others, especially Rainbow, were surprised at why Twilight didn't explain where they really came from.

"Well, if you wear those uniforms, you must be new students at Domino High. Well, if you want to know which way the school is, just follow me." Yugi said with a smile and the team followed her, while Rainbow whispered to Twilight.

"Twi, why didn't you tell him we really came from Ponyville?" she asked.

"Because I don't think he'd believe us, and I don't think he even knows about the powerful magic in the Millennium Puzzle. So I think it's best we play along with being new students at Domino High so we don't draw too much attention. Are we all agreed?" Twilight asked to all the others. Everyone agreed, and they soon reached Domino High.

"Well, this is the place. And those guys ahead are my friends." Yugi said as he pointed out two other boys, one taller than the other and one with golden hair, and a girl standing just as tall as one of the boys at the entrance waving and calling to Yugi. "Ladies, Spike, these are my friends Tea Gardener, Joey Wheeler, and Tristan Taylor."

"Nice to meet you." they each said.

"Guys, these are some new students I met along the way here. The girls go by their nicknames, so their names are Twilight, Rainbow, AJ, Rarity, Pinkie, Fluttershy, and the boy is Spike."

"Nice to meet you, too." they answered.

Soon, the girls started shaking hands with Tea, Joey and Tristan, and thus began a quest they wouldn't soon forget.
