Absolute Overhaul
Chapter 10 - Final Judgement
Previous ChapterFluttershy continued to help Overhaul walk down the hall until they were far enough away for the lead weight to dissipate into air. Once Overhaul regained his footing, he wasted no more time; however Fluttershy clutched the sword by its handle before collecting her courage to ask Chisaki the question that weighed on her mind.
“What just happened? For a moment you couldn’t even hold yourself off the floor and now you are running as if nothing happened.”
Overhaul turned around to look at her. Her eyes provided more than enough of a reason to answer her, but he couldn’t bring himself to reveal the whole truth. “I cannot explain to you what happened, because it isn’t of this world. But I assure you, Silver is on our side and not our enemy. If he could’ve suppressed his own ability from affecting me, he would’ve. And there are no lingering effects, so I am fine.”
Even though it wasn’t the answer Fluttershy wanted, it had quelled her worry for now. But what did he mean by ‘not of this world’? Despite having one question answered, so many more filled her mind. Yet, she knew that if she were to ask each and everyone of them, they’d both lose so much precious time. So opting for the best scenario, Fluttershy and Overhaul continued their Pursuit against the royal sisters. It’d be only a matter of time before the news that their fellow royals have been slain in combat had reached them.
Without Silver by their side, the guards become significantly harder to fend off, but Overhaul and Fluttershy never stopped their advance towards the throne room. Iron swords clashed on Overhaul’s stone gauntlets, only to be tossed aside with a swipe. No matter how many enemies that Overhaul managed to defeat, Fluttershy somehow managed to stay on par with the number of enemies Overhaul was defeating.
Every so often, Overhaul would pause when they had a break from the guards’ attack to collect the metal from their armor using his quirk. Overhaul had an idea on what to use all this extra material for, it would be his ace in the hole against the alicorn sisters. After all, if the threat level of Celestia and Luna are what he believed it to be, then he is going to need stronger weapons than just stone gauntlets.
It took some time for the two of them to reach the throne room, when they arrived Celestia and Luna were finishing gearing up to make a final stand against Overhaul. As soon as the royal sisters saw what had entered through the doors, Luna rushed to grab her spear while Celestia grabbed her large battle-axe from the ground. Celestia was heavily clad in gold armor, while Luna chose for a more light-weight armor made of lunar-steel. Luna’s eyes burned brighter than her sister’s sun, but Celestia… her eyes looked as if she had already died and her body was moving on its own.
“So you finally show yourself, vermin.” Luna scoffed at her opponents, “I swear I will take vengeance for the innocent lives you have taken.”
“Innocent?” Overhaul retorted, “You truly are the most delusional creature I’ve met. Neither you nor your subjects are innocent, and now it's time to cast my judgment and reshape the world.”
Ignoring the bickering from the two foes, Celestia looked at Fluttershy and the sword that was in her hand. There was something about that sword that caused her to dread the upcoming battle. When the two met eyes, Celestia saw fear in her but also… there was something else in her that Celestia wasn't quite sure of. For a moment Celesia could’ve sworn that she saw the cornea of Flutershy’s eye be covered in a blackish-purple fog. But after blinking, Celestia saw no signs of that.
“Sister, I cannot bear to listen to this madman’s prattle!” Luna said, “We should just kill them now.”
“Very well,” Celestia said, “We all have chosen the side to stand for, and there isn’t anything left to talk about. This will be our final stand sister.”
“I guess I should reveal the ace in my sleeve then.” Overhaul said as he threw off his jacket.
Overhaul shaped the metal around his arm, making it into razor sharp gauntlets with dragon-like talons around his fingers for his right hand, and an arm guard with jagged edges for his left hand. Luna stood amazed at such a thing, but as soon as her amazement wore off she jumped at the opportunity for an attack. As her spear rushed at Overhaul’s chest, he swatted it away with his metal claw before attempting to grab Luna by the face with his left hand.
Time felt like it slowed down as Luna felt her instincts telling her to escape. With divine reflexes, Luna quickly stepped to the side to get out of the way but it was so fast she stumbled and had to roll to regain her footing.
“Sister, do not let him touch you with his bare hand.” Luna said, “I don’t think his abilities to alter things only exist to himself.”
“Very well, I will keep that in mind.”
As Luna went back to fighting Overhaul, Celestia approached Fluttershy with her heavy armor and axe slowing her movement slightly. Celestia wanted to end this quickly so she raised her axe intending to kill Fluttershy, who seemed to be paralyzed with fear, in one attack. When her axe collided with the ground, there came the sound of stone breaking under the weight, but not bones. Fluttershy was flying behind her in the air.
Fluttershy aimed for the solar princess’s neck, but was blocked when Celestia’s armored hand stopped the attack. For such a petite mare, Fluttershy surprised Celestia with the power of the strike. But when Celestia saw dark purple eyes staring into her instead of Fluttershy’s light blue eyes, she felt fear. A dark mark of unknown origins appeared above Fluttershy’s eye, almost as if she had been cursed with dark magic. Pushing through her fear, Celestia continue fighting her battle, it was all she could do at this point anyways.
Returning to the fight between Luna and Overhaul, Overhaul was forced to stay on the defensive after Luna unleashed a barrage of jabs and slashes. Even though Luna appeared to have the advantage, she made a conscious effort to stay just out of reach from Overhaul’s left hand. Luna saw what he could do to himself, so She knew it would be the end of her if he managed to touch her.
Luna’s continuous attack kept pushing Overhaul further and further and back until his back was up against the wall. With nowhere left to go, Overhaul placed his left hand on the wall behind him, reshaping the material into spikes which quickly protruded from the wall. Luna managed to dodge into the air to avoid the attack, but being caught off guard like that left her open to counter attacks. Which Overhaul took full advantage of.
Reshaping the wall behind him, Overhaul used it to launch himself at Luna. With such speed, Luna wasn’t able to dodge the attack as Overhaul landed a solid punch that caused Luna’s armor to cave in at her stomach before it sent her flying into the wall behind her. At the sound of the loud crash, Celestia turned her head only to see the crater that was above Puna’s throne.
Taking full advantage of the distraction, Fluttershy delt a painful kick to the back of Celestia’s head. Celestia swung her axe, but only managed to hit the air. Out of all six of the bearers of harmony, Fluttershy was the last one Celestia would’ve guessed that could stand her own against her. But soon Celestia realized that her axe didn’t cleave through Fluttershy, instead she had already vanished.
Suddenly, a sharp pain ran up Celestia’s side. When she looked down, she saw the Fuluttershy holding the dark sword with half its blade in her side. Celestia went to grab the yellow pegasus in an attempt to remove her; but to Celestia’s surprise, Fluttershy allowed it to happen.
Except Fluttershy didn’t budge when Celestia tried yanking her away from the sword. Fluttershy only continued to press the sword deeper into her side, causing Celestia to yell out in pain.
It took a while for Luna to come back to her senses, but when she heard Celestia’s scream it snapped her back to reality. Pushing through the pain, Luna neglected her own opponent and rushed to her sister's aid. But Overhaul wasn’t one to let his prey escape from him.
“Oh no you don’t.” Overhaul reshaped the ground under him creating a platform that pushed him toward Luna.
And it wasn’t soon after that she felt the iron claw of Overhaul’s right hand clamping down on her leg. Overhaul yanked Luna downwards and grabbed her by the wings. She felt Overhaul's quirk acting on her, but by then it was too late for her.
“Sist-“ Luna was cut off as she felt her figure deforming before turning into a red cloud of blood.
Witnessing the death of her own sister right in front of her, Celestia fell to her knees as soon as Fluttershy let go of the blade in her side. She knew she had lost and she wouldn’t run from what she deserves anymore. “You’ve won. I have nothing left to fight for, so go ahead and kill me so I can join my sister.”
“Why?”
Celestia was stunned by the question, “What?”
“You aren’t the same cold blooded murdering rapist I thought you were.” Overhaul responded, “You have morals, even though they’re very dull now, so why did you let this happen? You could’ve stopped this the moment you received the letter, or better yet Centuries before I got here! So what reason did you have to keep treading down this path that you knew was going to catch up to you eventually?”
Celestia wanted to stay quiet to not let anyone else hear her guilt. But at the same, her soul ached for a peace it hadn’t had in near forever. Celestia took Overhaul’s question to heart, and while she would love to blame this on the caribou or the weak state of her own nation, she already knew the answer.
“Because I was a coward.” Celestia admitted, “Instead of fighting against the caribou, I submitted to their rule hoping to keep my ponies safe. They outnumber our forces well over 10 to 1. I was scared of losing, yet I lost it all in doing so. My sister, who was usually the one to suggest peace and negotiation, suggested we go to war immediately once she heard who we were fighting. Instead of listening to her, I banished her under the pretense of treason; and during her banishment, she lost her mind due to the isolation and has never been the same. All of this happened because I was too scared to fight a war.”
Overhaul saw that she was genuine and not trying to save her own life. As much as Overhaul wanted to go through with his plan, he couldn’t help but feel bad for Celestia. Nevertheless, Overhaul was the judge, jury, and executioner, and he was trusted by Harmonia to make the right call.
“If you could go back to prevent this from even getting to this point, would you?” Overhaul asked
“. . .” Celestia heard in his tone of voice that this wasn’t a rhetorical question, but one where he actually could do it.
“When I recreate this world, I want every being to live in a world where they view this kind of sin as vile and vomit inducing.” Chisaki said, “Even though you can’t escape death here, my new world would need a proper ruler and I am unfit to rule a nation of this caliber. So, I assume this would be in both of our best interest if you took my offer.”
The part about him not being a proper ruler was a lie to see into Celestia’s heart one last time.
“No, give it to my sister instead. She deserves it after all I have done to her.”
“I see,” Overhaul said, as he placed his hand on Celestia’s throat, “Your sentencing is decided.”
After those words left his mouth, Celestia vanished into a fine mist of blood.
Meeting in the hallway in front of the throne room, Chisaki met his assassins halfway down.
“Hey Overhaul!” Silver raised his hand to greet his friend dragging the corpses of the upper halves of Cadence and Shining armor with his other hand. “You said the spell called for much magic right? I hope this will be enough.”
“Will you shut up, big brother.” Crimson said, dragging the head of Damian, “Anyways, here is my portion for the spell.”
“Thank you very much,” Chisaki replied, “Fluttershy collapsed from physical exhaustion, but she is okay. Now is everyone ready to use the spell?”
With all three of them exchanging nods, Harmonia warped them to the Field of Elysium where they’d cast the spell.
“Before we start,” Harmonia interrupted, “But I wanted to tell you something of utmost importance.”
Chisaki eyed her curiously, “Which is?”
“You have a few options from this point forward: Back out now and stay here in this world with all your new friends, cast the spell and return home, or cast the spell and continue living here.”
“What if we choose to return home without casting the restart spell?” Silver asked
Harmonia’s face turned into one full of murderous intent, “I’d use my magic to drag the three of you back here and take on a corporeal form just so I could strangle you. I am not going to be responsible for watching over this hellhole.”
“Geez woman calm down, it was just a joke.” Silver replied
Turning her attention back to Chiski, Harmonia spoke one last time. “So what will it be Chisaki, these two have already expressed their indifference to me earlier. You get to decide the fate of all three of you.”
Author's Note
This is the last full chapter for this story, and I am planning on doing a semi-short chapter for each ending.
Also I do apologize for any grammatical errors or any choppy writing, I finished this chapter just before midnight after getting a huge spark of inspiration. This has been sitting in my to-finish pile for several months and I am just happy to get it done.
