Chapter 1: Outside The Stable
Author's Note
A Bit of History
Silvermane had access to battle simulators. As did everyone else in Stable 44. They trained for the day they would enter the wastes proper.
The training was a combat simulator setup by Stable-Tec for the soul purpose of reinhabiting the waste and survive it's myriad of situations.
So keep this in mind as you read the chapter.

Chapter 1: Outside The Stable
As Silvermane walked outside, he was greeted by the sun.
For the first time in his life, he felt the sun hit his pelt and he smiled for a brief second. Now he remembered to look at his map on his Pipbuck. He realized that there was a few locations where he could set off to.
There was Appleloosa, where the great Applejack was born before the war. There was Manehatten, the great metropolis that was the first to fall to the balefire bombs. And the small town of Cloverton which was nearby. "Maybe I should head over to Cloverton first. Ask around for directions and get some supplies for the road ahead. Wherever that road may lead me." He said as he started trotted in the direction of the town.
As he was trotting, he saw a group of travelers on the horizon. He laid low and pulled out his binoculars. "Well, this is not a surprise. A band of slavers and a couple of slaves. Maybe I can do something about this." he said as he kept the words of the Overmare in his mind...
Never trust anyone outside the stable doors. They could be friendly, they could not. Why take the chance??
He kept out of site as he tailed the group to the town of Cloverton. "Holy shit. I could have walked right into the hornet's nest." He said as I kept tailing the group. Once outside the town, I kept my binoculars in hand as I looked around the town from a distance.
"Let's see here. Three gate guards. Not much in the way of defense or armorment. Four more guards on the inside. Hmmmmm... It looks like there is a manhole in the center of town. I got to see if there's another manhole that I could use to enter the encampment." Silvermane said to himself as he looked around.
"There it is." He said as he spied the entrance he was looking for to the east of the town. "Now I got to wait for sunset as to not arouse suspicion."
He didn't have to wait long. An hour later the sun slowly began to set. Not to long after that, he made his move. He approached the eastern manhole. He removed the heavy cover and entered the sewer access. He then realized that the goons didn't know of the tunnel. "My god these guys are dumb not putting a pony on this sewer access." he said, realizing that the tunnel was unoccupied.
A few moments later, he lifted the manhole cover that was situated in the middle of town. He was ultra cautious because he knew that if he was spotted, he would be filled with holes in no time. Once he felt it safe, he came out of the sewers with his gun drawn. The first place he went was the slave pen on the south side of town. He gets there only to find out that two of the seven guards were keeping watch.
"Good, now to see if we can deal with them silently." he thought as he kept to the shadows. "Hey. Will we be able to move the cattle out soon?" one slaver asked the other. "Not sure. Boss said once we get the first payment of caps, we'll head out from here." answered the other guard as he looked around nervously.
"The Overmare was right in giving me this..." he said as he pulled out a silencer for his 10mm handgun. He then places the device on the gun and tightens it. He then maneuvered to a better, defendable spot. "Now we'll see how this plays out." I said with a sigh.
One of the guards walked over to a spot where he was isolated from view. He began to relieve himself from drinking to much beer. Then all of a sudden, a silent bullet ripped through his head. Killing him instantly. "One down, six to go." I said silently. "Now how about the other pen guard?" he wondered.
The other guard would walk past him. He was close enough to be taken down from behind. So I muzzled him with my right hoof and then snapped his neck. I aided his body to the ground and then hid it from view. After searching the bodies, I found several items. Bullets, AK-47 (2), Leather Armor, and the most important item, the key to the pen. But I know that if I let them go now, they'll just be killed by the remaining slavers.
I put on the leather armor and sat making repairs before my next move. "Before I let the slaves go, I must deal with the other guards first." I said as I finished making quick repairs to the AK's that I found. I took out another guard with my silenced 10mm. "That's three. Four more to go." I said silently as I continued to move around the camp.
I looked around and saw the other four guards grouped around a fire can. Now I see how stupid they really were. Silvermane open fired at the four, taking down 2 of them. The other two guards began to panic as I was about ready to spray their brains around the camp. But before I had a chance to fire, they rand like scalded dogs.
With Cloverton secured, I went to the pen to set the slaves free. One slave, the big and burley Mac, came to the cage door when I came to open the pen door. The slaves, who were residents of Cloverton, came through thanking the one who wears the number 44.
Big Mac, who is the mayor of Cloverton, had a wound on his head. I took out my first aid kit and administered first aid. "Are you okay sir? You look like you got a bad gash on your head there." Silvermane said while he helped close the wound. "Thank you. Whoever you are." he said with a big smile. "Name is Silvermane. What's yours?" Silvermane said, retuning the smile. "My name is Bic Mac. I'm the mayor of Cloverton." Big Mack said as he sat still while Silvermane kept doing the first aid.
"What happened here?" Silvermane asked as he finished up. "I don't know, first they seemed they wanted to trade. Next thing we knew, we were overrun with slavers and renegades." Big Mac said.
"Well, if you want, I can stay here for a few days and help you get Cloverton back on its feet. What do you say?" Silvermane asked as he looked at the others. "It's a deal. Let's get started." Big Mac said and they nodded at each other in agreement.
The Overmare once said that friendships are important on the road to recovery. Even if the world was burned in Bale Fire and Brimstone.

Introduction: War... War Never Changes
War... War Never Changes...
10 years have passed since LittlePip had left the confines of Stable 2.
Her adventures were legendary. And as time went on, the other stables opened its doors to the wastes. The last of which, was Stable 44.
It was here that a young pegasus colt by the name of Silvermane got ready for an adventure of a lifetime. As he prepares his saddlebags, he realized that things were about to change. He checks his Pipbuck 3000 again and again as he used his magic to grab the 10mm handgun from off the table.
The Overmare looked on in silence. She was worried that she’ll never see her friend again. As Silvermane cocked the handgun, the Overmare cringed at the sound. Not knowing what lies ahead for her friend.
“Silvermane, are you sure you want to do this?” the Overmare asked for the third time. “Yes my friend. I’m 100% sure. Now stop worrying will you. Everything will be fine. It turned out well for LittlePip, Didn’t it?” Silverman responded.
The Overmare gave a slight nod and finally a smile could be seen appearing across the old mares muzzle.
“Well anyway. When I heard about the other stables opening up, we couldn’t stay hidden behind the stable doors forever. Now could we?” The Overmare asked. Her smile betrays a small hint of concern and worry.
“Well, if it worked for LittlePip right?” He said, as he finished packing. He turned to look at the grizzled features of the older pony. “Well, it’s time for me to go.” he said as he holstered his gun. “Now you remember, if you’re ever in this part of Equestria again, stop by. Stable 44 is always home to you. Besides, those who chose to stay here in the Stable will miss you greatly.” the Overmare said. Not knowing weather to cry or push the black and white pegasus out the stable door.
“I will always remember you all.” he said as he turned to see the ponies that the Overmare had mentioned.
A couple of minutes later, he was facing the stable door. The foreboding gear as it was known by the ponies of Vault 44. He can see the Overmare at the door control panel. Waiting for the signal for her to open the door. “Time to see what happened to the world outside.” he said as he motioned to the Overmare. The Overmare pulled the lever and the big piston moved into position. Then suddenly, there was a high pitched noise as the gearlike door moved out of the way, revealing the outside world.
Silvermane hesitated for a single moment as the thoughts in his mind began to swirl inside his head. He turned to look at the Overmare, her eyes wide with hope. She nodded to her friend as if to say Go For It. Silvermane then realized that things were going to change. Weather or not he was ready for it.
So, as Silvermane took his first steps outside the stable door, he realized that his confidence grew. With each step, he sped up. One step after another and he finally saw that it had begun. He turned to see the Overmare one last time as the door to the stable closed behind him.
Now, he thought, the adventure begins.
