Chapter 1: Haunted Mansion
The sound of the engine died off as a red car was parked to the side of a road that was devoid of any life. The streets were lit up by lamps that were only dimly lit. The sidewalk to the left side had many cracks in it and some grass was poking out. The car was wine red coloured and would amaze anyone. The one who was driving the car was a teenager who looked to be between sixteen and nineteen. She had red and gold hair that made it look like fire. Her eyes were moderate cyan and had a look of anger and pain in her heart.
The car seats were made from soft red leather that made the car seem like a sports car. The steering wheel had a mark that resembled a sun setting over the horizon. The girl with the fire-like hair stepped out of the car. She was wearing a black leather jacket with a t-shirt that was pinkish indigo with a sun setting as her mark. She wore an orange skirt with yellow and pinkish indigo streaks. She wore black boots with purple glitter. Her skin was amber and her face was hard. She was holding a Sony Cyber-SHOT DSC-W830 camera.
She looked to her right and saw the mansion she was supposed to go to. She turned on the camera and made sure that no one looked and started recording. She walked on the sidewalk and immediately groaned when she felt some drops hit her head. Her camera was waterproof as she had modified it with the little money she had. She started looking for a way inside and continued walking down the sidewalk. There were coal-black bars that surrounded the mansion, making it difficult to get inside unless if there was some secret way inside.
“You can do this, Sunset Shimmer.” She told herself. She was a teenager in the human world, but she had a secret. She didn’t come from, earth. She came from another dimension named Equestria where she is a talking pony. She had been a student to a mare named Princess Celestia who took her in to study. She had then studied her hardest to make sure she pleased her Princess. She had then found a mirror and wanted to study it, but her mentor and Princess had told her ‘no’ because she had not been ready. She had then defied her when she was told to make friends. It was hard to make any and went to the library where she was not allowed to be until she made some friends. She was then told that she was no longer Princess Celestia’s student and to pack her things. In a rage, she knocked out her royal guards and fled to the mirror that was a portal to another world. She became then a monkey-like creature that could talk and be understood. She then started to go to a High School called: Canterlot High where she bullied students for years. She even dated a guy named Flash Sentry to become popular. He then dumped her when he found out what she was actually doing. She then went back to Equestria to steal Princess Twilight’s crown so she then could create her army and rule over Equestria with an iron fist. But, she had not anticipated that said Princess she stole the crown from would actually go after her. She was then blasted by a rainbow and she was turned to normal, as she had turned into a demonic being by having the crown on her head. It was then fully revealed what she was. A scared teenager. Princess Twilight left the human world after the party and told the girls to teach Sunset the magic of friendship. The only problem was: they didn’t.
When Princess Twilight left, she was kicked out of the school by her peers while the Principal and Vice-Principal was unaware of it. She had then been struggling to live. The Rainbooms as they had started to call themselves, didn’t even bat an eye at Sunset and told her it was for her own good and the others safety. Sunset felt betrayed and angry and she had left the High School, but she still lived in Canterlot City. She had started her own Youtube channel and she had made a few videos, exploring haunted houses and abandoned factories. She had made thousands of views from them, but she only had a few hundred subscribers. It didn’t matter, she was still paid good money doing what she does.
“Ah, here is a way in.” She told herself. She had been walking in a large circle and she had found a place where she could climb up without accidentally getting stabbed by one of the bars that did not have any. Sunset saw that there was a bin in front of her and climbed carefully up. The camera was recording in her right leather pocket and she used both of her hands to get a good grip on the ledge. She then used her strong muscular arms to get herself up. She then swung herself to the other side, and like a cat, made no noise whatsoever. She looked around and saw the marble stone was cracking here and there on the old mansion. She was near the back and her car was around the front. She did not feel super safe, but it was better than nothing. She felt the wet grass on her boots and carefully walked towards the building.
There was a back door that was made of glass and it looked easy to break. Sunset knew that no one lived in the haunted mansion as she had checked everywhere on the internet. There wasn’t even an owner, but no one ever took it down. It had historical importance as it had apparently been there since the seventeen hundreds. It had once served as a bank and then a hospital and then it was simply turned into a mansion where you could live, and if you knew where to look: you could find hidden stashes of money that the greedy bankers hid away. There was specifically coins that were worth millions in the modern world because of how old they are.
Sunset pulled out the camera and recorded her surroundings. She walked towards the glass door and paid attention to the two pillars to her left and right. The pillars were spikey but nothing out of the ordinary. She saw that there was no light inside and she pulled out a flashlight from her left pocket. It was very small, but it could shine very brightly. It was blue coloured on the metal and it had a soft button on the butt of the flashlight. It was also very resilient.
Sunset tiptoed towards the glass door and she put the flashlight back in her left pocket. She then punched the glass with her left hand and did not notice that she was dripping blood. She used her left hand to unlock the glass doors. She heard how the glass doors creaked as it was open wide for her to be able to walk inside. She noticed that the marble floor was inside of the kitchen and she noticed some odd stuff already. There was broken glass, but not from when she punched it herself. This was differently shaped.
She noticed that there was a lot of dust everywhere and she assumed that it was because no one ever cleaned the place. She didn’t mind as it gave an extra eerie vibe. She saw inside of the kitchen that there was a marble table and several open cabinets. The floor was dusty and there were a few small cuts on the table from a knife. Sunset just assumed that they did not have a cutting board.
She left the kitchen, making very little sound and entered the living room. But if she had stayed a little while longer, she would have seen a black shadowy hand that reached out to the marble table...
Inside of the living room were many books that had different genres. There was romance, horror, dark and even some books that couldn’t be fully categorized. She noticed to her surprise that there was a book that stood out the most. She walked over to it and pulled it out. She placed her flashlight in her mouth and read the title of the book. It had a pink cover with two AK47’s that crossed each other near the tip and the title of the book was The Dictators Of Shadowville Chronicles. She smiled. She had read most of Mr Black’s works. She put the book back where she found it and took her flashlight out of her mouth. It had been difficult to smile because she had the flashlight in her mouth. She looked around the room and noticed that some of the paint on the walls had been peeled off. She just assumed that it was because it was old.
The floor had carpet that was long and wide which stretched throughout the whole living room. It was reddish and had a few sewn-in designs to look like an ancient human God. Sunset wondered who it was, but because of the furniture that was in the middle, she couldn’t tell. The furniture was all orangeish in colour and there was a coffee table near the sofa. Sunset was standing behind the sofa with her camera recording everything. There was an armchair that looked old and seemed to have a small hole in it. A few feet away was a very old nineteen forties TV. It was a box with an antenna on the head of it. Well, two antennas.
Sunset laughed a little bit and she could not help but admire it a little bit. Humans may be violent, but they are quick with technology when they want to be. And that is both a good thing and bad things considering what humans are capable of. She looked to her left and saw that there was a door that led to another room. She walked towards it and tried to open it with her left hand after she had placed her flashlight in her mouth.
The door seemed to be blocked by something and Sunset thrust her whole body against it. It took five tries before she was actually able to get through. She looked around and saw that what had been blocking the entrance was a large piano. She had a look of wonder on her face. She simply shrugged it off as she believed that perhaps the people who lived there forgot about it. But then again, there was a rumour that the last family that lived in the mansion had been killed by something.
The family lived in the mansion from the nineteen twenties to nineteen fifties. From what Sunset had managed to find online. The family that went by the name of Garnier as the last name, we're a family that were French-Americans that had been living in poverty in France because the man of the house’s family’s brother was a known member of a mob family that were people who were half-Albanians and half-French. If you were either pureblood French or Albanian or even just half of either, you could join. The brother was a known member as he had stolen some serious money from a bank that was seen as to be impossible to rob. The Garnier’s had been shunned and the father of the family had lost his job because of his brother. They had then travelled to America to restart their lives. They had three children and all three of them were boys.
Sunset looked down to the floor and saw that it was made of marble. She looked straight ahead and saw that there was a wooden staircase that leads to the second floor. She then got a sinking feeling in her stomach. She turned to her left and she could have sworn that she had just seen pure white eyes that peered at her, but they disappeared before her eyes were able to comprehend what it was.
“What?” She whispered. But what came out did not sound like her voice. It sounded child-like and defenceless. She felt how her body tensed when she heard that voice. The one thing she had hoped would have disappeared years ago when she entered the human world, but it seems like some things stick to the pony or creature until the end of their life.
She shrugged it off and looked up the stairs. She used her flashlight to make light and see what was up there. She then wandered to the staircase and heard small creaking noises. She felt herself freeze on the spot, but she continued going up. Her right hand still held the camera and recorded what she was seeing. She would make commentary when she was finished. When she got to the second floor, she looked around and saw that there were three ways to go. To the left where it was pitch black but had one door from what little she saw from her flashlight. Or she could go to the right where there were three doors. Or she could go straight ahead where there was a narrow hallway. She shinned the flashlight to the left and headed that way, the boards creaking from each step was was not as much heard because of the purple mat on the floor. She reached the door and put the flashlight in her mouth and used her left hand to open the door. It opened and she was surprised that she found that there was light in the room. She walked inside and was shocked by what she saw.
“What...The...” She never finished her sentence. Right in front of her was a small fancy wooden desk that had papers scattered all over it. That isn’t what shocked her or made her feel sick. It was the fact that there was a hanging skeleton hanging from the lamp. She looked to the floor and saw that there was some red substance that had melted into the mat. She knew what that was. It was dried blood. She saw that there was a note on the desk that looked to have been written by the person. She picked it up and read it.
Dear Mother and Father
I cannot take it anymore. I simply cannot handle that being that stalks our house. I have seen the creature fully and I was disgusted by what I saw. In the darkness, the creature has pure white eyes that look horrifying. I saw its body just today and what I saw will never leave my eyes. I just cannot take it anymore. We have been stalked like this for the last few years and this was the final straw. I am leaving for France again in a few days. Goodbye.
Arthur Raphael Garnier
Sunset felt something twist in her stomach. She did not know why, but she shrugged it off again. It was most likely nothing important. She looked at the dead child and saw that there was a chair there and she assumed that the child had taken suicide. She felt pity for the child and bowed a little in respect and left the room not bothering to turn off the light from the desk lamp. If Sunset would have stayed in the room and surveyed the room a little bit longer, she would have seen that there were packed bags to the left when you walked inside and that the chair was too short...
Sunset walked out of the room and she turned to her left and repeated the same process, checking the different rooms but did not find anything interesting. she did not even find letters or family documents that would show her what could have potentially happened inside of the house. She then went to her last option: the narrow hallway. The one that looked like it was straight from a horror movie. She did not see any doors to her left and right and she sighed a little bit in relief. She knew that there would be thousands of theories inside of the comment section when she uploads it later.
Her feet hit the mat that covered the planked woods and she felt how her legs wobbled a little bit as if her legs were telling her to stop. But she continued onwards since she needed to find some scary stuff inside the house that was worthy of recording. When she reached the end of the hallway, she checked to her right and could have sworn that she saw a silhouette of a humanoid figure there. She then shook her head. She must be tired. She just gently flashed her light to her right just in case.
She checked her left, spinning her body normally, but with a hint of a little bit more speed suggesting that she is on edge. She saw that there was nothing there. She checked ahead of her and she could have sworn that it wasn’t there before, but she saw a wooden staircase that looked terrifying and she felt her heartbeat faster than normal. It was one thing if you were training, but since her body seemed to have entered ‘survival’ mode, it beat even faster in both healthy and unhealthy way. Healthy, since it showed that her body was working if she needed to survive someday. Unhealthy, because she wasn’t doing anything like running away from something or someone. She cautiously walked up the wooden staircase and this one creaked like mad. Sunset was seriously considering shushing it with her finger on her lips but she knew that it wasn’t how the human world worked or Equestria for that matter. Sunset’s breathing became heavy, and Sunset felt her heartbeat go faster and she was getting seriously worried now. Why were her instincts telling her that she was in danger?
She shined her light upwards to see if she could see anything ahead of her. She didn’t and she continued onwards. She felt how her hair raised as if sensing the danger. She felt her whole body not cooperating with her but she still pressed on, trying to make as little noise as she possibly could. When she hit the final step, she felt how her body tensed as there was an echoing sound coming from the last step she took. She shined her light and saw that there were many covered objects. She saw that the reeling next to her had claw marks. She looked at it with the help of her light but it did not help a whole lot.
She then felt a shiver run down her spine but when it passed she felt fine. She walked to the left and saw that there was a pathway. She walked down it and saw that there were two double glass doors. If she had paid any attention to the glass windows to the left, she would have seen a figure disappear through an open door. She tried the double glass doors but they did not open. She then looked around as if someone was watching her but to be fair, she did feel like someone was watching her.
She used her left hand to punch the glass door and open one of them up. She took the flashlight from her mouth and continued shining the light everywhere so she could be certain that nothing was there. Her camera had picked up something though. She had made her camera see what is warm and cold like what a snake sees. She saw that there was a cold trail that led to the left and into a room that had a slightly ajar door. The walls were white coloured but there were red scratching marks on them. There was glass on the floor and there were even marks on the floor’s mat that showed signs that there must have been some sort of struggle.
The door that was slightly ajar opened up a little bit more, making Sunset jerk backwards. She then relaxed as she heard that it was the wind outside followed by the rain. She walked inside of the room and shined her lights, not seeing the pair of eyes looking at her at all. Her camera did pick up something, but Sunset was more closely looking into the room. The walls all had claw marks that had smalls signs of blood but it did not look new. The walls were coloured in indigo and there was a bed to the left side of the room in the square. There were no bed covers, just a mattress and a pillow. To the right side were bookshelves that had been pushed towards a door, blocking it. There were several books on the floor. Sunset looked to the floor and a drawing caught her attention.
She squatted down and looked at the drawing. It was a coal-black humanoid figure that had white eyes and a skeletal body with a smile that had rotten flesh sewn to the face. Sunset looked at the arms and they were inhumanly long. The legs looked long as well and the creature all in all looked terrifying. Sunset picked up the drawing and looked at the back and saw a text that read: Michael. She assumed that one of the children named this thing or the thing gave the children a name to use...
She looked ahead of her and saw that the window was wide open. She looked out of it and saw all of the lights from the city. It was beautiful. The mansion was terrifying but the view was gorgeous. She then heard the door slam shut behind her. Faster than anything in her life, she turned around and saw that the door was shut, she shined her light around frantically, trying to see if anything was in the room with her. She didn’t find anything, but her heart was still beating a million miles an hour. She walked slowly and cautiously towards the door, making sure to not make a single peep and when she was close to the door she opened it and she peered into the hallway. She checked her right and left. She walked out of the room and headed left. She felt a presence her. Not like magic, but still something quite similar and sinister...
She looked to her right and saw a metal door with a sign saying ’DO NOT OPEN’ . Sunset who was still looking for footage to use opened it anyways and peered down into the pitch darkness. She shined her light and saw that there was something at the bottom... standing there...
Sunset felt herself freezing, like a bucket of water had been thrown over her. She felt how her hair rose a little bit from seeing the figure. She could not make out any sort of eyes, but she had a very strong feeling that it was looking at her. She felt it. It was there, the feeling. It wasn’t going away either. She felt herself prepare herself for the worst and she still just stood there, lost to when she lost to the Rainbooms, the one’s who helped CHS of throwing her out like she was a piece of trash.
She could see Twilight Sparkle in front of her, looking at her as if she was nothing more but a petty criminal. She felt her blood boil, but that did not go all the way as she looked at the creature that had yet to move or say something. She then looked to the hallway to make sure that there was still a clear path for her to run through. When she looked back she froze. The creature was most definitively looking at her now. Two pure white eyes were looking at her. There were very small eyes, but they were still looking at her. Then to her horror: the creature spoke.
”I see you.”
The words were whispered but they still came towards Sunset’s ears. She couldn’t take it anymore. She bolted out of there, forgetting to close the door. She felt how her legs carried her and managed to make her run faster than anything In her life. She should have listened to her gut feeling. She saw the staircase get closer and closer. She took the left side this time and when she saw that she was close to the ledge, she did not care about damaging the camera or flashlight, she jumped over it with her hand and arms pushing her body weight over the ledge. She saw that the creature was running after her and she bolted it again down the narrow hallway. She heard footsteps speeding up behind her and when she was close to a ledge again, she did the same technique from before and landed on the marble floor or whatever. She ran past the piano and into the room. She then sped by the kitchen and took a sharp right and saw the metal fence there. She knew that she could climb over it. She knew that her camera was very resilient and she could always take out the chip and transfer it to her computer. She threw the camera over and she did the same with the flashlight and she jumped the highest she has ever been able to jump. Her hands grabbed the slippery metal fence and she pushed herself upwards and threw herself to the other side but not before she felt an intense pain in her right leg. When she landed on the sidewalk she checked her right leg and saw that she had five claw marks and she was bleeding.
She got up and with the help of her adrenaline, ran to get the camera and flashlight that didn’t look damaged. She ran to the right and then took a sharp left and she didn’t stop until she took another left and saw her car. She practically jumped inside of the car and made the engine roar when she had found her keys in the passenger seat. She had left the car unlocked. She just had a gut feeling there as well.
Her engine roared as she sped down the driveway and drove away from the house, not noticing that the creature had been standing behind her car the whole time...
Sunset didn’t stop driving until she was safe and that was when she had reached her house. She drove into the garage and pulled out the key from the ignition and she took the key, flashlight and camera with her. She got out of the car and she looked towards the other houses and she walked up to the garage and pressed a button that lowered the garage door. She Then took her things and walked towards a door to the left that was white and she forced it opened and it revealed a living room with no mat but a coffee table with a very large sofa.
She poured herself some whiskey she had stolen once and she drank the whole thing within a few seconds, not reacting to the awful taste at all, in fact, it tasted good this time. She did not know what she had seen, but she did not want to know. There was a TV in front of her as she sat down on her large sofa. She turned on the TV. She was hoping that she could forget it and upload it to Youtube and just get a few views. Suddenly, her phone rang. She looked and saw that it was an unknown number.
She answered it. “Hello?” She asked, still on edge.
”Well, hello, Sunset Shimmer. I have been trying to call you the whole night. Anyways, I have an offer for you that I know you cannot refuse. Meet me In the alleyway to Sugarcube Corner tomorrow morning, five o’clock. Oh! And my name is Adagio Dazzle.” Then this Dazzle hung up. Sunset was confused. What offer. She decided that she would check it out tomorrow as she had no energy, but sleep would not find her...
