I over heard the news today. There are still stories coming out about the riots last year. People were so afraid that the world was going to end, that they almost caused it to themselves. Idiots... But there have been some strange stories. The one that caught my attention was a report on a family who was attacked in their home a couple of weeks ago. The report softened the details but apparently the family of 5 was murdered while they were asleep. This normally wouldn’t be strange, but they weren’t killed by conventional means. The pictures I found on the internet and the few they showed on the news made it look like they were in a bar fight. There were bruises and scrapes and even bite marks, but no bullet wounds or stabbings or even strangulation. I didn’t hear the name of the guy but he must have been pretty crazy. When they caught him he looked half dead (probably from being on the run, stress can do bad things to people). He tried to fight the police but an officer ‘accidentally’ shot him in the head. That was another thing that seemed odd. They weren’t local police. They were federal and it sounded like there were more than necessary to take him down.

I have seen 4 more stories about strange murders in the last 3 days. It’s really starting to weird me out. But all of a sudden they stopped today. I used to rarely watch the news but I kinda picked it up lately. I turned on the TV this morning expecting another gory story, but nothing! Not even a robbery got reported on. I guess we might be done with these crazy murders.
I remember in 12th grade and sitting at the lunch table talking to my friends about zombies. I was so excited for it to happen but I came to my senses and dropped the idea. But what if this was some kind of sign? Weird murders, ‘crazy’ people, media cover ups? If not some supernatural happening, I’m still curious about what’s going on. The murders are too similar to be a coincidence.

Cheyenne seems quiet lately. There is little…’interesting’ news from a national level. I don’t think I'm the only one noticing this either. People seem to keep to themselves. Hell, I'm not saying Cheyenne was a bustling hub of social activity, not by any stretch of the imagination. I'm probably just paranoid, but SOMETHING is happening. I can feel it in the air. But days go by. I still have to work and take care of myself. I'm missing the days I could spend with friends. I think I took school for granted. It’s only been a little over a year now and I get even less social interaction than even the worst days of my “childhood”.
If something does happen, for the love of God please let it happen soon. Even if it’s a nuclear holocaust at least it'll disrupt the day to day nothingness that is my life.
God, I had all these grand ideas and delusions for life after school. I didn’t expect myself to be successful, but at least I was going to have fun being a failure.

Well I was right; something is happening. I'm starting to see an increase in military personnel within the city. Whatever it is, it’s starting to freak me out. I’m one of the few people that still even go outside these days. When I walk down the street these days (I actually walk now! I never imagined walking for the sole purpose of walking, but like I said, things are stale for me these days) I see windows curtained and gates padlocked. Whatever is going on has people scared.
I haven’t watched the news lately, ever since they stopped showing stories on those bizarre murders. Maybe I missed some announcement or something. I should ask around work or something. Maybe some sort of virus or disease? An animal infestation of some sort? People got weird with scares like the H1N1 virus and bird flu, but never to this extent.

I did some investigating and I seem to be getting somewhere on the “virus” idea. More and more people are being hospitalized. Things like fevers (fevers that are high enough to kill, like one of my co-workers wives had a fever of 109! She started complaining about flu-like symptoms after a leisure trip down to Denver) and nerve damage! I heard about a 10 year old boy who one day, with no warning or even family history to pinpoint the cause, suddenly fell over paralyzed from the waist up. The doctors found out it wasn’t even a stroke or any other medical causes for the sudden paralysis, they say it was almost like his body just “gave up”.
I was sitting at home last night when my roommate Aaron brought my attention to the street in front of our “house”. It was about 7:18 P.M. and the lady who lives about 4 houses down from us was walking by. A homeless guy crossed the street heading in a straight (more or less) line for her. When she tried to tell him she didn’t have any change, the dude punched her in the side of the head and bit her shoulder! Who the fuck bites someone on the shoulder. Aaron ran out and tackled the guy and held him down while I called the cops. The guy would just make grunting sounds in what I can only guess was defiance when we tried to get him to talk. Fuckin’ crazy hobo…

The lady I wrote about that got bit a few nights ago? She died yesterday morning…
I was at King Soopers doing what seems like my bi-annual grocery shopping trip when I saw her. She seemed kind of frazzled. She came up to me and thanked me for what I and Aaron did for her. I tried to tell her it was no problem but she just fell down! I tried to get her to wake up, but when I touched her she was burning up and, most importantly, not breathing…
I…I don’t know what’s going on. I just feel so left in the dark. People started quitting at my work, people are acting weird, people are dying, and nobody is fucking talking about it!! Nothing on the local, state, national or even international news. You would expect the common news like “oh, some dude bombed another group of dudes cause they said something bad about his imaginary dude” or something! It’s almost like someone, I don’t want to say “the government” cause that’s cliché crazy person talk, is trying to make it seem like nobody is dying. That bad things aren’t happening.

I saw some of my old friends today. But it wasn’t a happy reunion by far. I was at the hospital trying to learn a little bit more about this illness that’s spreading. I was talking to a doctor when I saw Jennifer being wheeled down the hallway in a wheelchair by her boyfriend. Jennifer used to be…colorful? When I knew her she always wore colorful clothes and outfits and she was always full of energy. But when I saw her in the hospital…she looked sick. All of the color was drained from her face and she had that “thousand-mile-stare” in her eyes. I tried to talk to them both, see if I could at least lift her spirits but she just made a sickly moaning sound. I really hope she didn’t catch the bug that’s spreading around.
I didn’t learn anything from any of the doctors though. All of the medical staff were wearing latex gloves and those little paper masks. I thought they only wore those in like operations…or in a biohazard environment…

I'm getting nowhere…nobody knows (or are just not telling me) anything. I've been hearing about more and more people getting attacked in the streets though. I'm positive I need to prepare for something…but I’m not sure what it is yet. I’ll go with what I know.
Okay so first I know that there is a virus going around that makes people…what? Die? Okay there's nothing I can do about that. I’ll just have to be careful when I go outdoors.
Next I know that people are getting attacked on the street. I have lots of swords and daggers and such but I doubt I can carry that down the street so I need to get a handgun at least tomorrow.
With the doctors afraid and even seeing armed military walking around I think I should get some supplies like water, food…toilet paper…all that good “end-o-the-world” stuff.
All of my instincts say that it’s…I really don’t want to even say it cause it’s ridiculous to even think it’s possible. But all of the signs point to zombies…

So I think I have everything a good crazy person needs for the end of the world. I went around town and bought a pair of guns. I’m not gonna lie I feel like a badass. I also bought quite a bit of ammo for them (about 150 shells each…I think that’s a bit too much).
I also went out and bought lots of bottled water, and lots of canned food. I even went to the gas station and filled up about 6 of those little red gas thingies. Oh, and I bought lots of toilet paper .
I'm seriously starting to question my mental well-being…I’m wasting all of my money on this shit and I’m not even going to need it. I bought flashlights, enough batteries to power a small village (a village that runs on batteries apparently), 2 generators, an electric oven and even building materials (planks and nails and such).
I really hope I’m right on this whole…zombie thing…

The town is quiet…there isn’t even news anymore…I think the newscasters died. The only stuff on TV is reruns of old shows.
I’m done being cautious! I don’t care if I'm insane! The suspense is driving me crazy… I'm going to go out and find some of my old friends and see if they’re still around…then I'm going to board up my house. I'm sending Aaron out with the last of our money to get “supplies”…I see weird people outside every hour or so. They all have that blank look in their eyes with a weird limp to their steps…I have a feeling I was right about this situation.

So, Aaron came back the night of my last entry with boxes full of ammunition and guns (I'm not sure he acquired it all through legal means but I'm not complaining). And even a few surprises such as hand weapons and even a few explosives.
I haven’t written an entry in a few days because I'm preparing our house for whatever is about to happen (if it does). I put metal bars on the doors and windows because, what if we need to use the door? Nailing wood across it would keep us inside just like it would keep anything out too. So I made a system that will allow us to open up from the inside but it would be extremely hard to open from the outside (the only reason I don’t say impossible is because…well I'm not really sure what we will be dealing with).
I also contacted a few of my old friends. I'm not sure why I did it…I guess it was just a feeling that I don’t want to be alone when all of this happens. So I was able to talk to most of them in person but a few I wasn’t even able to call…I hope they’re all right. Emily said she was going to come over tonight with her supplies (she’s a strong headed gamer…I hope that helps if we do need to break out some violence somehow…). Seth and Mercedes were too far away to get to us but I hope they took my warnings seriously…maybe if they prepare like I told them too I might see them again. I saw Jarret (I never could spell his name) and I tried to get him to come over but he just brushed me off…I think has still upset about what happened at the hospital with Jennifer…but he always was a prick…But I was able to get a hold of Colt and he came with me…so with me, Emily, colt, Lindsie and Aaron…I hope we will be alright.

It started…we finally saw proof of my suspicions. I saw some redneck get swarmed on the street. He had a shotgun but they still got him. It was a pretty gruesome sight. There were about 13 of them and he was doing pretty well at first, he took down about 6 of them but his fatal flaw was not moving around enough. I noticed that they move really slowly so if he would have just walked around he could have lived. When they got to him they trapped his arms while he was reloading, then they got his legs. I'm trying to learn how they fight before we actually have to fight them. Knowledge is our best weapon after all against an unfamiliar enemy. They trapped his limbs so he couldn’t fight back I'm assuming. Then they bit viciously into his arms which seemed to sever the tendons (I realized this because after they did this his arms stopped struggling) they also bit into his calves. It was a little too much to handle, seeing all of that blood and ripped muscle and flesh, but I needed to watch so we could see how they operate. His screams still echo in my brain and it’s been over a week…
We had a few come up to the windows and inspect them, but they seemed to not be very aggressive when they don’t sense a human. I put blankets over the windows and I had everyone quiet down and turn off all electrical lights at night to not attract attention. So far it has been going alright but not even I'm crazy enough to believe it’s going to last forever.

Tensions are high. The zombies are growing in numbers right outside our house. The girls seem to be doing better than the guys. Aaron and Colt seem to be itching for a fight. I'm trying to keep them under control but it’s a losing battle. But me? I'm perfectly content to sit with Emily and Lindsie and ignore the outside world. The longer we do nothing and lay low, the more zombies will kill humans and the more humans will kill zombies. I'm planning on letting them destroy each other a bit before we make our presence known. Why fight when others will fight for you?
I feel bad for everyone though…not knowing what happened to their families and other friends? If I cared about my family I’d probably be just as antsy as them. But as in all of the movies I’ve seen, caring for people and going out to see if they’re okay leads to deaths…I'm not going to let my friend’s emotions kill them.
I have no money left to my name, for all I know everyone I know outside of this house is dead, yet, I'm really happy lately. We play lots of video games and we tell stories and generally having fun. I can constantly see the worry in the other’s eyes, but for me, I'm finally enjoying life. I'm surrounded by friends, I have no school to plan for, no job to go to, we have everything we need here…as long as the power stays on…I wouldn’t mind if this never ended.
I'm going to make some modifications to the house tomorrow. Ill have to do it in the daytime because the zombies seem more active at night. The only downfall is that it will probably be pretty noisy…and I’ll have to do it outside…

We had our first run-in with the zombies today. I brought Colt and Aaron with me to do the renovations to the house. I took the chainsaw Aaron brought us (again, probably illegally) and my katana with me and the guys had 2 handguns between them. There was only one zombie within sight this morning but I took no chances and lopped its head off. It had the same features as my next door neighbor’s daughter (about 12 years old) but it was definitely zombified and I don’t take any chances. I'm not going to even deny it; it felt kind of good to “take a life”. I'm not a psychopath or anything (trust me…if I were to take a human life…a 12 year old girl would be the last on my list of candidates). But for someone who has never even been hunting, it was a new experience.
But that was the easy part. We went back to the house and while Colt and Aaron guarded me, I set to work. I took the chainsaw (which are louder than fuck) and cut horizontal lines into the sides of the house. I came up with this idea the other day when a line of zombies surrounded the house because I got a little bit…emotional…when Colt and Emily mopped the floor with me in Halo: MIKAS (Men in kick ass suits…game name cleverness has dropped in the last year or so). I got a little too loud and attracted some visitors. That’s when it hit me; what if they try to break through the walls or even climb them? Now, if they do, I’ll be able to run the chainsaw down the lines and cut them in half. Well if zombies can hear me yelling “Yeah! Suck it BITCH!!” inside of an insulated house then they definitely heard a chainsaw. They move too slowly to get here in a timely manner…but I fear we will have a problem to deal with tomorrow…or tonight…

The zombies kind of slowed down, that’s why I'm writing tonight. When I said they would be attracted by the sound of the chainsaw, I couldn’t have been more right.
By 10 P.m. that night, we had 50 zombies mobbed around our little fort. There was an orchestra of undead moans and guttural wails that prevented any attempts at ignoring them or falling asleep. Within the hour the wailing zombies attracted over 150 more to congregate around the house. I knew it was probably not the best idea, but I also knew we needed to do something about them or they were going to attract every zombie in Cheyenne. We had to go on the offensive.
My comrades all loaded up on what armament they could handle. Colt opted to dual wield a pair of handguns (I was skeptical but he had determination in his eyes so I let it go). Aaron tore into our supply of shotguns and shotgun shells. Lindsie went a different route and decided on just the chainsaw with a handgun as back up. I guess she, like me, wanted to be up close and personal, for which I decided to get our lone trench spike and my katana. Why worry about running out of ammo? Emily’s choice though surprised us all. She decided to snatch up our lone sniper rifle. I know absolutely nothing about guns but I can tell you this; I never expected such a brash and gung-ho girl like Emily to take the weapon that takes her out of the heat of battle…if anything, I would have expected MYSELF to take it. Emily gave us a tip of her imaginary hat and ran up the stairs to the roof. We all glanced at each other, not quite feeling at our bravest but we all knew what needed to be done. Because of our close range me and Lindsie were to go out first fanning away from the door. Coming in behind us was Aaron and Colt to provide us with ranged cover and apparently Emily up top covering us all.
If I learned one thing last night, it’s to always call dibs on the sniper rifle. Sure I'm better at close range with my sword (I love the no reloading thing) but hot damn I nearly filled my britches up that night…I never thought I could be so scared! Running into the swarming hordes of the undead isn’t so bad, its what happens when you run out of room…I'm glad I brought my trench spike (sniper rifles and trench spikes…I'm going to need to have a talk with Aaron) or else I would have been toast. I'm just really happy Aaron was able to back me up with an endless spray of shells. Me and him fell into a rhythm; he’ll blast them (getting a few kills every once in a while but mainly stunning and wounding) and when he needed to reload I was right there to cut down any threats. But, the sweetest sound is the muffled crack of a sniper rifle taking down a zombie who has snuck up behind you to feast on your supple flesh. Every once in a while I would glance over and see a blood splattered Lindsie with a giant grin on her face and a sputtering chainsaw and a nimble Colt prancing around the undead putting point-blank rounds into soft zombie brains.
We managed to clear all 200 or so zombies away from the house that night…but I'm sure the cacophony of chainsaws, gunshots, zombie moans, and my occasional screaming like a little girl will draw more. We had a day of rest but I'm sure I can feel another undead wave encroaching upon my…no OUR house. I'm very proud of my friends. We faced the undead and came out victorious…for now…

Instead of waiting for lots of zombies to gather around the house, we opted to attack them as they came and stuck to bladed and bludgeoning weapons. It was quite simple to take them on one or two at a time instead of 200 at once. It took all night last night but we just took shifts.
Today is more or less back to “normal”. Back to video games and boredom. (An odd little tidbit I picked up: zombie games aren’t as fun as killing the real thing…). I plan on venturing into town to see how things are (and some other personal endeavors)tomorrow. I hope I can find another survivor or at least some more supplies.
It still amazes me how well everyone is handling all of this. The way they all kicked into action that night with little to no hesitation makes me so proud. And even though we are all pretty different individuals (practically strangers after so long) we worked like a well oiled machine.
I do have a few worries. I don’t believe that Colt realizes the dangers and risks involved in what we are doing. Sure he handles himself well in the heat of the moment, but on our downtime he talks about wanting to run in, in a fury of bullets. He acts like a kid sometimes sounding like he wants to be a hero. He sometimes talks about going down fighting, sacrificing himself for us in a blaze of glory. I respect him for his courageous attitude, but doesn’t he know what that would do for the group? If we lose any part of our group, it will not only damage the group morale, but with one less person we will be more vulnerable when they attack aga in. If the situation arises, I will not let one person sacrifice themselves to let the group survive. No matter what the situation is, and no matter how dire, nobody is being a hero…if we ever find ourselves outmatched, there will be no fighting up to the dismal end…we run…run as fast and as far as possible. These creatures aren’t very fast! It kind of reminds me of sleep walking more than anything else. I gave this general speech to them all tonight…they all seem to be a little more enthusiastic about being alive, and the bonds of our group seemed to grow a bit stronger.
I don’t like how they look at me sometimes though. Throughout my life I have always been a follower…I didn’t have many long-term friends and relationships and I never seemed to fit in anywhere. Even when I was with friends I was always a “secondary friend”, not really part of the main structure. I was mainly full of hate and was there for comic relief.
But now, with these four, in this life threatening situation…they seem to have respect for me as a person…and it even seems that they kind of look up to me at times…
The end of the world sure is having a positive effect on my life…

Me, Aaron and Colt drove around a bit today. We went and scoped out some pawn shops and some downtown stores. I’m not going to lie; it wasn’t what I expected at all.
The town seems deserted. I expected to see, I don’t know, burning, riots, at least some zombies. But it felt like it was just us there. Every once in a while though I would see an undead face peer out of a window, or a shadow scuffle in an alleyway.
One thing that was a huge success was our trip to the gun store. I was able to acquire silencers and laser sights for a lot of our guns (I'm going to probably have to duct tape Emily’s mouth before I give them to her for fear of her screams of joy attracting zombies). I was really grateful for the silencers because what's the point of fending off the undead with guns if they're just going to draw more and more towards us? We were also able to acquire even more rifles and handguns with the addition of an insane amount of ammunition.
The only trouble we hit was when we decided to go to the mall. I had wanted to go to the Asian gifts store because I wanted to widen my arsenal of bladed weapons. We ran into about a dozen zombies on our trek through the mall but thankfully quite a few more were trapped within various stores by the roll down cage door thingies they pull down when stores close for the night.
I felt bad at having to kill the old lady that runs the Asian gifts store. She had always been so nice to me.
We all loaded up on the various swords and daggers they sold there (picture somebody with a pile of wood stacked up in their arms and that’s how much we each had). We made a mad dash to the car not wanting to be stopped by the enemy with our hands full and raced back home to show the other girls our haul.
As I suspected Emily was happy about the laser sights and silencers but not in as dramatic way as I had predicted (thankfully). Me, Colt and her went up to the roof to try our new gadgets out (it was fun being able to shoot a zombie 2 blocks over with only a light “thump” coming from the rifle).
Later that night we had a lighthearted meal and all just sat around in the living room telling stories about our lives after high school so far (of course I had nothing interesting to contribute, but it was fun listening to my friends have a laugh in such a dark time).
All in all today was definitely one of the better days of the apocalypse.

I woke up tonight to Emily shaking my shoulder. Apparently it was my turn to stand watch. We usually take our shifts in pairs but I always offer to just go solo and let Lindsie sleep a bit more (she's a bit…testy in the mornings when she doesn’t get much sleep).
Our night schedule goes as follows:
7pm- Thoroughly search in and around the house twice for zombies and any signs of damage to the house (I make it mandatory even on the nights when we haven’t seen a zombie all day).
8pm- Hygiene time…as long as there is running water we all take showers (no more than 7-8 minutes long). I want to keep our house from smelling like ass for as long as I can.
9pm- At this time we usually relax in the living room and just revel in the friendly atmosphere of being clean and safe with human friends.
10pm- Everybody goes to bed excluding the two who have the first watch duty. Usually it is Emily and Colt (I need Emily to balance Colt out…she's a very energetic person but on her watches and in battle she is responsible and level headed…I need her to keep Colt from making a fatal mistake. Don’t get me wrong; he’s a great guy and I'm glad we have him with us, but he just has a few of those moments when you need to save his ass). They have watch for 3 hours then I have a 2 hour shift followed by Aaron with another 2 hour shift. Finally Aaron wakes Lindsie up for her 2 hour shift before she then wakes everybody up for the day.
That brings me to the present. I have been sitting up on the roof for the past hour just thinking. Thinking about the future. Sure, things are going smoothly right now, but what happens now? What do we do next? I'm not talking about tomorrow or even a month from now. What if humanity is finished? Will there be a government anymore? Will it be just our little group as the last humans in the world? (I don’t think we would be the last, but I'm definitely not going to let any one of my friends die now). I don’t doubt me and my friends ability to survive and for me to keep them safe. But I don’t think I can build a whole new world if we are the last, or part of the last few humans left. If there are more humans left when this is all over, I hope it is somebody who I can follow behind. I don’t want the responsibility of keeping the human race from falling apart.
I brag about my welding and construction skills but I don’t know how to build a house, or a building. I don’t know how to run a city or a government. The only thing I'm good at is killing zombies and keeping this group alive long enough for somebody who knows what to do to come along.
Sometimes I still think about all of the people who were special to me in my life; my aunts and my uncles, my friends from school, even all of the people I've had a crush on (well most…some turned out to be terrible humans), and just too many people to name off. I worry about all of my peers from school.
I think I should try and find some of them. I almost don’t even want to try to find them, in all of the zombie movies somebody always dies while going in search of a loved one or a friend. But, if they died and I could have done something to prevent it, if I found out about that, I couldn’t forgive myself.
I think I will ask the others if anyone will volunteer to go with me, I won’t force them to do something so risky if they don’t want too. I would rather have at least one more person with me than just going alone, but I will do what needs to be done.
I really enjoy these late night shifts. I like lying back on the roof and look up at the stars. I know it sounds a bit lame, but it is a relaxing time for me. The city is darker at night then before, and because of our elevation, the stars are so clear and close to me it feels like I can reach out and actually grab the stars.
I heard a rustle from across the street a minute ago. I picked up the rifle and found a zombie in an alley way with a cat cornered by a fence. It was a simple task to point a laser at the back of its head and lodge a silent bullet into the back of its face.
Well, my shift is over so I'm going to go and wake up Aaron, maybe the cat’s yowls attracted some targets for him…

Today’s my 20th birthday…Emily, Colt and Lindsie all went out and got a cake for me. Surprisingly there were still some frozen cakes at the dairy queen. I'm really grateful to them for literally risking their lives just to keep up the façade of normality in these times.
There were no presents (what use would anything be at this point? I could just go take what I wanted). But I did have fun just goofing off with my friends. It was the best apocalyptic themed birthday ever.
A zombie smelled the smoke from the candles and came up to the house. When it saw us inside it was able to crack a window before I ran outside and stabbed it in the temple with the cake knife. I really hope he didn’t ruin the window, I don’t think any of us know proper window installation technique.
I've taken up writing these entries on my watch shift at night, it just seems fitting to recap the day’s events in the dead of night. Everything is so peaceful.
Well…was peaceful; I can see a building on fire downtown. I hope the zombies get drawn towards it and it fries a bunch of those lifeless bastards.

We decided to catch a zombie today. We felt the need to study how it behaves. Aaron provided the handcuffs and the ball-gag (……I still need to talk to Aaron about all of this stuff he keeps “finding”…).
We put him down into the basement (have you ever walked a zombie down the stairs? I’ve heard the saying that you can lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs…well you can yank a cow down a flight of stairs and it will probably not try to eat every part of you that comes in contact with it. After about 10 minutes of trying to get it to not focus on eating us and get downstairs we finally just pushed him down them…it was actually pretty funny! All you hear is “uhh? –zombie like moan all the way down-“ then a snap that was probably an arm or a leg). When we got him into the basement, we drilled a screw into one of the handcuff links and screwed it into the basement wall to make sure he wouldn’t go anywhere.
We noticed something almost immediately: they are pretty dumb…Colt held a gun right up to its face and it didn’t even realize it. It just stared at colts arm. So apparently they have no self preservation instincts.
They also don’t seem to be very active. He never once tried to get out of the handcuffs, only tried to walk towards us (no matter how futile that might be).
We decided to just leave him down there for the night. We will do some more experiments tomorrow.

We preformed some experiments today on the zombie. I’ll just list them.
We lit a tree branch on fire and waved it in front of the zombie, even touched it to its arm. As we suspected they don’t register pain. What we didn’t expect was that zombies are not deterred by flames. Damn…
We held a raw steak in front of it. I saw the zombie corner the cat a while ago so I was wondering if they eat everything and they aren’t just exclusive to humans. Good and bad news on that front. When we had Colt wave the steak in its face, the zombie only focused on Colt. But, when we tied it to a string in front of it and we all left the room, the zombie ate the steak. So apparently they do eat most animals, but not when a live human is around. Damn…
Tried to communicate with it. Like talking to a dog that has down syndrome and an empty stomach.
Lastly we laid a plastic tarp down on the floor under it. Then we tied a rope around its head (bolted to the ceiling) and undid the handcuffs. Then after everyone cleared the room (except me of course) I took my sword and hacked its head off at the neck. The body fell with a plop onto the plastic tarp. The others came in again and wrapped the body in the tarp. We did this to see if it killed it. It didn’t. The body was gone but the head was still “alive”. The eyes still moved, eyeing us and still working the mouth. Creepy stuff man. Not wanting to see a disembodied head still eyeing me and trying to chew the air, I stabbed it through the forehead. It died.
After we cleaned everything up with bleach in the basement, we took the body and head out to the backyard and burned it (and the tarp). So really, we learned more about them, but nothing remotely useful for fighting them. We can’t use fire against them, we can’t use another animal as a distraction, and the only way they will fully die is a destructive blow to the head.
The smoke from the body and the flames attracted 7 more zombies to the house (they were easily dispatched).
I think everyone is getting restless cooped up in here, so I think I'm going to plan a little trip into town, try to do something interesting, maybe go looting again. (I love looting…yay looting!)
