It was another day in Cloudsdale. Lightning Dust looked out of her window to see a group of foals play buckball with each other. She rolled her eyes and pulled down the blinds. “Idiots,” she muttered under her breath. She turned to face her teammates, Rolling Thunder and Short Fuse.
The two of them were playing cards whilst lying casually on a sofa. “Darn!” Short Fuse yelled as he threw his cards onto the floor.
“Once again, I win,” Rolling announced smugly.
“Rematch!” he called out.
His friend just sighed and rolled her eyes, “You’re never gonna give up, huh?”
“Not until I win,” he replied eagerly.
“I didn’t call you two over here to mess about,” Lighting snapped at them both, bringing them back to reality.
“Oh uh sorry boss. What was it you wanted to talk about?” Rolling Thunder asked.
“You know exactly what I want to talk about!” Her teammates looked at their leader, puzzled. Lightning groaned at her team’s lack of intelligence. “A certain rainbow-maned moron. Ringing a bell?”
“Ohhhh, okay,” Rolling Thunder and Short Fuse replied in unison.
“She took everything from me. Again.” Lightning began as she paced the room.
“Yeah! Rainbow Dash is such a goody two shoes!” Short Fuse added in, trying his best to satisfy his leader.
“I know she is. And that is exactly why I want my revenge! Dash just doesn’t learn. I’m gonna have to teach her a lesson the hard way.” A mischievous smile crept across Lightning’s face.
“How are you gonna do that?” Rolling Thunder asked, snapping her leader out of her trance.
“By getting my reputation back…..aaand ruining the wonderbolt’s reputation in the process.” Those words froze her teammates as they stared at her, mouths agape wondering if being in a full body wing and hoof cast had affected their leader’s brain.
“Are you just gonna stand there like two complete idiots or are you gonna finally say something?” Lightning Dust asked bitterly.
“Wh-wh-what? You’re kidding, r-right?” Short Fuse croaked.
“How are you gonna upstage Equestria’s greatest flyers?! The wonderbolts have been around for a long time, they’ve got a solid reputation!” Rolling exclaimed.
“It’s simple, really. The ‘bolts do have a good rep like you said but you also said they’ve been around for a long time. New things replace old things. So...new heroes replace old heroes. Makes sense? Everyone loves modern things. I just have to upstage the wonderbolts. Not that hard considering I am an awesome flyer,” Lightning smirked as she puffed out her chest.
“I don’t really think so,” Rolling interrupted, “I mean you are an awesome flyer boss. You deserve to be a wonderbolt more than those losers do but...are you sure it’ll be that simple?”
“Trust me. It’ll work wonders…”
“Alright ‘bolts! Great practise today. Why don’t you all go hit the showers?” Spitfire instructed her team.
“Yes ma’am!” the wonderbolts answered in unison followed by a salute. Rainbow Dash flew over to the locker room and took off her goggles. She rubbed a drop of sweat off her brow and exhaled a deep breath. As she opened her locker to toss her goggles in, she saw a picture of her friends stuck at the side. She smiled to herself as she looked at the picture. Twilight had moved on to become Princess of all of Equestria. Although she lived in Canterlot now, she spent nearly all her free time visiting Ponyville. It was nice to know she cared. Dash’s thoughts were suddenly interrupted when a bang was heard from behind her. She jumped as her heart skipped a beat as she turned to face the culprit.
“Did I scare you, Crash?” her teammate teased.
“Shut up Flatfoot,” Rainbow groaned.
“I was just joking,” Fleetfoot replied as she stuck her tongue out.
“Whatever.” Rainbow slammed her locker door shut with annoyance. She was in no mood to deal with Fleetfoot’s regular antics. ‘Maybe I’ll feel more refreshed with an afternoon flight?’ Rainbow thought as she took off for the clear skies.
The wind gently brushed past Rainbow’s coat, tickling each strand of her fur. She exhaled a deep breath as she flew through a cloud. Like a professional, she did a series of twists and turns as she swam through the sky. One might not realize she was there due to the fact that her blue coat blended in with the background. But the rainbow streak left behind her as she flew was highly palpable. “Life is good when you’re as awesome as me,” she sighed happily with the normal rasp in her voice. Rainbow Dash did a smooth loop de loop in the air before she settled down on a nearby cloud. Just as she was about to drift off to sleep she heard a piercing scream. Her ears shot up as she looked below her cloud to see a pink unicorn filly falling. “Hang on, I’m coming!” Rainbow yelled as her instinct kicked in. She dived downwards towards the foal, reaching closer and closer…
Rainbow was really close to her now. She could feel the barrier building up in front of her which made her even more eager to pull off her legendary sonic rainboom. As she was about to break the sound barrier, a green and golden blur whooshed in front of her and grabbed the child. Confused, Rainbow Dash stopped in her tracks making the barrier catapult her backward into the sky. “Aaaaaaaaaaghhhh!!!!” Her screams trailed off into the distance. Finally, Rainbow Dash crash-landed onto a tree. “What happened?” she groaned as she shook her head. “THE KID!” she gasped as she quickly flew back to the place where the unicorn was. To her surprise, the child was safely on the ground as a bunch of ponies surrounded her. “Phew!” Rainbow said as she wiped the sweat off her forehead, “But...who saved her?” Rainbow scanned across the area and her eyes widened when she saw what was standing next to the kid. More like who was standing there. “Lightning Dust?!” Rainbow exclaimed. Everypony silenced and turned to look behind at Rainbow Dash. “Oh uh sorry,” Rainbow sheepishly apologised for her awkward outburst.
“Well, I gotta go now. Take care!” Lightning said, regaining their attention. As she was about to leave she flew up to her enemy’s ear and whispered, “Until we meet again, Rainbow Dash.” She shot her a menacing smile before flying off, leaving her rival to ponder.

Hey guys! This is my first fanfic and I know it is pretty late cos the show ended 2 years ago but I hope you enjoy it :)
Sorry if the updates are gonna be late. School's starting soon so I might not have much time to write more. I'll try my best though. Constructive critisiscm is encouraged!
Colours of orange, red and yellow slithered up the sky as the sun began to rise. Spitfire sat in her office continuously signing autographs as the time ticked by. 'The Wonderbolts should be here soon,' she thought as she paused to look up at the clock. Knock! Knock! "Come in," she muttered. Soarin entered, scowling. "You're early. What gives?" Spitfire asked without bothering to look up.
"Don't act so innocent!" Soarin spat out, "You know exactly what I'm here." The young captain looked up at her friend, quizzically. She took a few seconds to carefully choose her answer.
"Uh...well I don't," she stuttered.
"Yeah sure. You think you can just send me a letter and write all those things about that I need to 'improve' because I'm the worst flyer you've ever seen," he almost yelled at his superior, "You're more than just my captain, Spitfire. You're my friend from foalhood. But I guess that's changed." Much to Spitfire's surprise, he took off his badge and slammed it on the desk as he turned towards the exit.
"Where are you going?!" Spitfire blurted out.
"I quit," Soarin coldly said before slamming the door behind him.
Rainbow Dash and the other wonderbolts were waiting for Spitfire on the runway. "What's taking Spitfire so long? And to think she's the one who always yells at us to be early," Misty Fly scoffed.
"It's not like her to be late," Rainbow Dash said. The Wonderbolts turned to see Spitfire as she entered. "Where were you?" Rainbow asked.
" A pizza shop."
The Wonderbolts exchanged glances. "I'm sorry, what?!" Misty snapped.
"He chose to work at a pizza shop instead of being a wonderbolt," she stated, with no expression.
" Who did?" Rainbow asked.
"Soarin. He quit because he thinks I sent him a letter which I never sent!"
"Soarin...quit?" Fleetfoot asked.
"Yeah, I tried to talk him out of it but he didn't listen. So I'm gonna need a new lieutenant. Fleetfoot, you're promoted," she half-heartedly announced. Spitfire squinted up at the sky which began to turn grey. 'Oh Soarin, why did you have to quit?' she thought as she tried to hold back the tears welling up in her eyes. The wind blew violently as a storm was approaching.
"So did you deliver the letter?" Short Fuse asked Lightning Dust as she entered through the door.
"Yep. And he felt for it. I overheard Spitfire saying he chose to work at a pizza shop. Tuh! What an idiot!" She scoffed.
"It's almost too easy messing with them," Rolling Thunder smirked.
"I've got more plans for them, just you wait," Lightning grinned.
Rainbow Dash lay down on her bed next to Tank. Affectionately, she stroked his shell. "I just can't stop thinking about what Lightning said to me yesterday," she sighed sorrowfully, "I know Spitfire would never send Soarin that letter so you don't think it could be...no, no it can't be. Can it?" Tank looked up at Rainbow and yawned. "You're right, it's getting late. I should really get some shut-eye. Good night Tank." Rainbow closed her eyes and slowly drifted of to sleep.
