The sky painted a bright blue, not a cloud around, the nicest day in weeks and here I am stuck inside. I shamefully opened the sack and dumped the contents on the table, a cavalcade of colors came tumbling down onto the sturdy oak surface. I gave a pitiful look before I resolved myself to the task. I was going to sort through these socks in the order of how potent their scents were.
I quickly separated them, 4 orange wool , 2 light maroon, 4 absolutely soaked limited edition Wonderbolt socks, 4 dry and sticky, pink and white striped socks, 4 blue and black striped, 4 grassy green, and 4 seafoam blue socks, one of which was wet and somewhat sticky. I marveled at the seven sets of socks, slowly theorizing who owned each pair, before setting my own Neon pink socks in a separate pile. As I gawked, I came to the conclusion that all that there was left to do, was to slowly take in the bouquet of fragrance from each sock.
“I-Its fine, this is just my repayment for being a good friend. I'm sorry, oh, I hope nopony finds out, I just can’t stop myself.”
I hung my head as I decided which set to start with, that being the 2 maroon socks. No doubt that these belonged to Rarity, after all she was the only one to own socks in sets of two, these being for some dress or such occasion I supposed. As I picked them up in my talons, I noticed the gentle odor of vanilla perfume that covered up the even more mild scent of sweat. No doubt these were the softest and smoothest of the socks. The gentle silky feeling was superb in my talons. The fabric brushed up against my nose and I inhaled, I could definitely tell that the bottom of the sock was definitely the part where the sweat cut through the perfume. No doubt this was due to whatever shoes she wore. The light scent of vanilla was so pleasant I sat there for a few seconds before I begrudgingly set them back down.
I looked down at the table pleased and decided to grab the set I assumed was Fluttershys. The grass-colored socks, as they were covered in fur, led me to infer that they were Fluttershys. I picked them up and took a close look at them. You could see on the bottom a faint amount of dirt and mud. Just a bit caked on, as well as a substantial amount of hair and fur stuck to two of them. I had no doubt in my mind these did belong to her as I brought them up to my nose. A faint earthy scent blended with that of an animalistic musk is what caught my attention. Fluttershy softly petting and tending to her animals outside is the scene I imagined in my head as I let the smell overtake me. As this went on, I could feel my passion building up. I had to relent though, so I soon decided to set them down before I got too excitable.
A moment of intrigue overtook me at the possibilities that the set of socks of which only one was wet presents. I decided to put my curiosity on hold, and instead save that one for last before mulling over the possibilities. There were the pair that was most obviously Rainbows, those being the Wonderbolt ones, The wool set, the blue and black set, and the sticky pink and white ones. In the end I decided to proceed forward to the orange wool. I picked them up and looked at them carefully before concluding that they were Applejacks. I could tell just at the sight of them that they were very well worn. They were still somewhat moist to the touch and were caked in a sizable amount of mud and grime. Applejack had worn these while doing some farm work in the colder months, no doubt about it. She was the type to choose such rugged socks that she could continue to work in for hours on end. I could really feel the labors that Applejack puts into her work, and I was soon finding myself quickly distracted by my little friend under the table. I felt a tinge of shame at what i was doing, but quickly pushed it down and decided that as long as I didn’t do anything worse than catching a sniff, I would be fine. I set the socks down, but not before taking one more breath saturated Applejack’s potent work.
I closed my eyes and sat there breathing softly.
“I need to calm down, focus, let’s pick the blue and black ones. Those seem a bit gentler” I softly whispered to myself before opening my eyes.
Looking at these socks confronted me with a problem. I wasn’t entirely sure who they belonged to. Starlight or Twilight were my two realistic options, blue and black didn’t seem like the kind of choice PRinkie would make after all. A peculiar detail caught my eye, two of the socks showed much more wear than the others. As I slowly brought them to my nose I was inspired.
“These must be Twilights.” I gave a small smirk to myself. One pair was noticeably less worn than the other pair, those worn ones being as to where you could definitely see the outline of her hoof. Twilight would frequently remove the front pair when reading, as the socks made it harder to turn pages. The scent emanating from these socks were much lighter, and stronger than that of Rarity’s or Fluttershys, but nowhere near the potency of Applejacks. I could feel the heat in my face as I took in the gentle scent emanating from twilight’s socks. All I could think of was Twilight reading late at night, her hooves sweating in those sweet-smelling socks I was huffing. Twilight gently peeling off her socks one by one and laying them down, stretching out her moist hooves and heading to sleep. At this point I could feel my problem under the table growing substantially. I soon realized I needed to get back on track and get my face out of Twilight’s lovely socks. I put them down while slowly struggling to get them out of my talons before overlooking the three sets left.

Deciding that I hit the point of no return I looked on and grabbed the soaking pair of Wonderbolt themed socks.
