Chapter 1: This is Equestria
‘This is Equestria, a land where ponies live together as one. Earth Ponies tend to the land, Pegasi rule the skies, Unicorns harness their magic to protect us and Alicorns like my mother rule over the entire land. You may think this land would be at peace but sadly it’s not.
For the past 300 years we’ve been at war with dragons, powerful creatures of fire and flame. The war all started when a pony tried to make friends with a dragon but ended up....well.... let’s just say he didn’t return that day to his family. All of ponykind was distraught and engaged war against all of dragonkind. The battles were brutal and fierce with both sides having lost something. Equestria hasn’t been at peace since....” a hood closed the book and we see a young Alicorn pony who sighed.
The pony was a female that was white as snow with a sapphire mane and tail and she lacked a cutie mark of her own. Her name was Aline. Unlike the rest of her kind, Aline was different.
Aline put back the book of how the war began and got out another Book, the Book of Dragons. A special book her grandmother gave to her in secret that held all the information about dragons. This was Aline’s biggest secret from her mother because she banned anything dragon related from the land: No Dragon books and no practice of Dragon Magic either.
Aline smiled at the book remembering what her grandmother said to her before she passed away due to old age, “Knowledge is the key to everything, my little warrior,” Aline then took out a special Emerald Gem in the shape of a dragon, specially, A Night Fury, embedded in the book. She hid it inside of her mane so no one could see it.
Aline put the book in her saddlebag and exited the Canterlot library. From there she teleported to her home in Ponyville where ponies were walking around on high alert for any dragons who may attack their village.
It pained Aline to see everyone so tense and angry. Families were lost during the war and changed forever. Aline’s heart pained her. She wanted to find another way.... to end the war for both ponies and dragons. She thought about that as she came her home on the boarders of Ponyville that gave way to the Everfree Forest. Out here no one could bother her and she would be able to study and read in peace.
However, as she was about to enter her home, the Emerald Dragon Gem in her mane glowed! That meant there was a dragon nearby.
Aline quietly gasped as she was in a mixture of surprise and awe. She took out the pin and the Gem sent out a small line of magic that lead into the Everfree Forest. Aline gulped a little as she followed the Emerald Gem into the forest.
Normally ponies were afraid of the Everfree Forest because it took care of its self along with the animal inhabitants but Aline didn’t fear it at all.
The Gen guided Aline over a small hill where she saw broken down trees and large skid marks, like something crashed at the bottom of the hill. Following the trees to the bottom she gasped in shock and awe, seeing two dragons collapsed in the ground, having been shot down.
The first dragon was 24 feet long and white as snow with blue cat like eyes and four nubs on its head. It’s tail fins were in the shape of a heart.
The second dragon looked very similar but it was 26 feet long and was black as night with black like wings and more ear appendages on its head.
Aline couldn’t believe it...... a Light Fury and Night Fury...! Two of the rarest dragons in Equestria!
The two dragons had arrows stick out of their sides and in obvious pain and suffering. Aline skidded down the hill and came up to the pair, who immediately hissed at her before roaring in pain at their wounds. “Easy you two..... you’ll only hurt yourselves more....” Aline calmly spoke to the injuries Strike Class pair.
The Light Fury and Night Fury breathed heavily as Aline came over and examined the wounds. The arrows seemed to have only penetrated some muscles and the skin. “Don’t worry, I can help.... but you two have to stay still.” Aline said, taking out her medical kit from her saddlebag. Aline gently used her magic to take out the arrows getting a wince of pain from the pair before she flushed the wounds with preoxide to prevent infection.
Stitching the muscles back together before stitching the skin back together was her next steps before she gave them both a shot of antibiotics. “There... that should do it.”
The two Furies attempted the at least sit up but their newly stitched wounds were sore and they warbled in pain. “Easy, you two have to take it easy for this week before you can fly again.” Aline advised the pair. The Night Fury and his mate sighed, lowering their ear appendages but they were in no condition to put up a fight.
Aline gently moved her hood closer to touch the Light Fury, but she hissed at her, not wanting anything to do with her which Aline took as the sign they were probably shot down by ponies, “Easy girl....” Aline soothed, “I’m a friend. Not an enemy. I’m sorry this happened to you....”
The Light Fury and her mate looked at each other. They haven’t seen a pony like Aline acting nice towards them. They’ve always been seen as monsters and horrid beasts to all ponies eyes.... but not Aline.
The Light Fury cooed before she gently sniffed Aline’s hoof..... and placed her snout in it, trusting her. Aline gently smiled at her female Strike Class dragon before her mate gently nuzzled him, earning a big smile from her as well.
Soon night fell and it was time for Aline to go back home, “l’ll be back tomorrow to check up on your two,” Aline told the pair. The Light Fury and Night Fury nodded at her and watched their pony friend return home for the night.
Aline entered her room and fell onto her bed with the biggest smile on her face ever. She hasn’t been this happy since she got the Book of Dragons from her grandmother. Aline gently looked at the Emerald Dragon Gem in her hoof, “I guess you were right, Grandmother.” She thought before placing the pin back in her mane, crawling underneath her covers and fall asleep for the night.
The next day, Aline returned to the Everfree Forest where she found her Light Fury and Night Fury friends in the same spot she left them last night. The two dragons perked up at when They heard her coming, “Hi you two,” Aline greeted before the Emerald Dragon Gem slightly glowed a bit before,
“Hi pony,” the Light Fury replied back much to her, her mates and Aline’s shock.
“You can talk now?” Aline questioned.
“You can understand us now?” The Night Fury quipped back, “Since when?”
Aline didn’t know the answer until she felt her grandmother’s Emerald Dragon Gem glaring inside of her mane and she took it out, “My grandmother’s Gem. It.... it must have gave my the power to understand you.” Aline gasped.
“Woah,” the Night Fury gasped.
“Guess my grandmother’s Gem has more surprises.” Aline thought.
“Your grandmother?” The Light Fury echoed.
“Yeah.... she was an Alicorn like me. She was interested in dragons too. She always said, ‘Dragons and Ponies are one in the same,’ which is what I also believe. Sadly, she passed away due to old age, two years ago.” sadly explained Aline.
“Oh... sorry for your loss,” the Light Fury empathized.
“My grandmother was so wise and kind of everyone before my mother took to the throne. She gave me this Gem and the Book of Dragons before she passed, guess she knew that I would love dragons as much as she did.” recalled Aline who gained a small smile on her face.
“She sounds like she was very nice.” The Night Fury smiled.
“She was,” Aline added. “My names Aline by the way,”
“I’m Star and this is my mate, Eclipse.” The Light Fury, now known as Star, replied.
“Mommy, Daddy! Mommy, Daddy!” a series of small cries came before the three turned and saw small baby dragon triplets called Night Lights pop their heads from a rock on top of a nearby hill. They saw Star and Eclipse and cried, “Mommy, Daddy,” in delight before they flew down towards their parents and went around them before they nuzzled them happily.
The unique thing about them that they noticed is that the triplets looked similar to Eclipse and Star in certain ways; the first Night Light looked like a young girl who was the only daughter and eldest child of the two older Strike Class dragons being predominantly black on her body while being coated in white with small pink tinges in her medial and posterior areas. She had Star’s eyes and even her ears and the tip of her nose are tinged with white.
The middle child of the trio and one of the little female Night Light's two younger brothers looked a lot like his mother being white all over but having several black segments on his scales, his head nubs, and on much of his tail.
The last of the triplets and the youngest of them looked a little more like his father and similar to his older sister in being black with white highlights on his body but with them being much smaller along with his head nubs, white lining along his tail fins, and an all-white underbelly. What's unique is that unlike their sister, who has sky-blue eyes, the male Night Lights shared emerald green eyes.
The three dragons cooed as they nuzzled their parents. “Mommy, Daddy.”
“Awww... who are these little fellas?” Aline cooed at the baby Night Lights.
“These are our babies, the Night Lights, our two boys are Pouncer and Ruffrunner and our only daughter is Dart. Dart's the oldest of their triplets while Pouncer and Ruffrunner are her two little brothers. Dart's usually the most independent and outgoing between the three of them and is always one for adventure which often causes them to get into trouble that they might've otherwise avoided."
"That one there is Pouncer, he's Dart's younger brother and older than their baby brother by three minutes between them. He lives up to his name - energetic and playful and loved to pick fights with his brother back then. He's much less circumspect being nearly as fearless as Dart so it falls onto her to reel him in when he lets his curiosity get the better of him."
“And, we have their baby brother and the follow-the-leader Night Light of the trio, Ruffrunner. He's not as adventurous or curious as opposed to his older siblings and prefers to curl up and snooze whenever he's not playing with Pouncer. So, you might want to watch out for when he sleeps mid-flight since he has a tendency to often be dragged into Dart's misadventures."
“So cute....” Aline cooed.
“Oooh, who are you?” The three Night Lights asked looking at Aline.
“I’m Aline, a friend of your parents.” Aline smiled at the Night Lights.
“You’re one of those magic ponies?” Dart asked.
“Yes, I’m an Alicorn.” Aline chuckled.
“Cool!” All three went with big smiles. Their parents chucked at their little ones enthusiasm of meeting Aline.
“You’re parents are still healing from their injuries so you three go easy on them,” Aline added.
“Okay.” The three smiled, wagging their tails.
Aline chuckled before she checked Star and Eclipse’s healing wounds which were healing nicely. She brought the three of them large Salmon as well, being that both species loved fish.
Star and Eclipse smiled and shared the fish with their babies happily.
Soon, a week came and went fairly quickly and Star and Eclipse’s wounds were finally healed and Aline took out the stitches, “There, all healed.” Aline declared.
“Yeah...!” The Night Lights cheered in unison. Their parents smiled at their offspring, “Thanks Aline.” Star replied.
“No problem, I’ll see you tommorow.” Aline said as she headed back home for the day.
When she returned home, she was about to enter her home when.... she was suddenly tackled into the ground by three burly Earth Pony guards! “Gah! What the-? Hey!” One of the guard out an anti magic ring on her horn and wing brace preventing her from using magic or flying!
“Silence!” The one Guard snarled.
“Let me go!” Aline growled.
“Quiet daughter!” A stern voice came as the crowd in front of Aline and the guard parted and she saw her mother coming up to her. Her mother, Queen Ember, was six feet tall and she was also white as snow but her mane and tail were literally made of blue fire!
“Mom! What is the meaning of this?” Aline questioned.
“Some of the citizen informed me that you’ve been going into the Everfree Forest more than usual over the past week. I questioned why myself before they also informed me you’ve befriended our greatest enemies!” Her mother scolded and Aline’s heart spotted for a moment knowing she was busted for sure.
“How could you befriend those monster and betray your own kind?” Queen Ember growled.
Aline struggled underneath of the guards but they were too strong for her, “Such treason only deserves one course of action, execution!” Queen Ember announce and Aline gasped in horror while the civilians of Ponyville cheered, “But I’m your daughter!”
“Not anymore, traitor!” The Queen replied, “Bring her!” The Guards harshly brought Aline too her feet and followed their Queen with their prisoner in hand.
But they neglected the fact that Star and her family saw everything and were horrified, “Oh no, Aline...” Star gasped.
“Her mommy’s so mean!”
“She gonna hurt, Aline.”
“We have to save her.” Dart, Pouncer and Ruffrunner all said. Their parents looked at each other and nodded before the family spread their wings and flew to Canterlot to rescue their friend.
In Canterlot, Aline was dragged through a large crowd with a chain around her neck heading towards a large stage where her mother stood with a her Sword in her magical grasp.
The crowd booed and hissed at Aline, calling her names like ‘traitor’ and ‘monster’. Aline was then thrown into the stage where she mother stood over her. “Time to make an example of what happens to traitors.”
Aline gulped nervously but just when her mother was about to bring down her Sword, a plasma blast knocked her off of the stage, “What?!” Queen Ember snarled and everyone looked up and saw Star and her family flying in!
“Star, Eclipse, no!” Aline called to her friends wanting them to turn back.
“Fire!” The Captain of the Guard, Commander Blaze, a one-eyed, burly Earth Pony with a fiery red body and a yellow mane and tail that were singed in some places cause of his many battles, called and his guards fired arrows at Star and her family but they dodged them easily before Eclipse swooped in and grabbed Aline, “Gotcha!”
“You five came here for me.... even through you knew it would b me dangerous?” Aline breathed.
“Of course we would. You’re our friend now.” Star smiled.
“Now come on, let’s get out of here and someplace safe.” Eclipse said and the family flew away with their friend and the angry yells of the crowd vanished in the wind.
The dragon family took Aline back to her home where the Night Lights chewed the ropes off of her. Rushing into her home, knowing her mother would be back soon with an army to take her out, she grabbed her Saddlebag and packed with everything she would need; medical supplies, camping tent, canteen, multi-purpose tool, raincoat, umbrella, winter clothing, food, water, naps, all her books (magic spells books and books about other creatures), her grandmothers Book of Dragons and finally a small frame that held a picture of her and her grandmother.
Her grandmother, Scarlet Rose, was cream colored with a white mane and tail that held several rubies in them. Her cutie mark was the symbol of a Night Fury underneath a crown. Aline was always curious about what that cutie mark meant, but she never knew the answer to that, but vowed to learn about it one day.
Thanks to an Extension Charm placed on her saddlebag. She finished packing everything and placed it on her back before she placed the picture inside as well. With her grandmothers Emerald Dragon Gen placed securely in her mane, she came out of her soon to be ex-home. “Come on, let’s go hurry!” Aline urged and the family flew into the air and away from Ponyville.
No sooner have they done that, Queen Ember and her guards arrived and saw them flying away. The Queen was now even more furious as he mane and tail exploded in flame, “Mark my words! No matter where you go! I will find out and bring you to Justice!” She yelled at the top of her lungs at Aline, vowing to bring her daughter to Justice for such treason.
Star, Eclipse, the Night Lights and Aline all landed deep in the Everfree Forest in a clearing and Aline dismounted Star.
“We should be safe here... for now...” Aline added grimly. “Knowing my mother, she’ll chase me to the ends of Equestria to bring me to Justice.”
“Then we have to take you somewhere where she can never find you or us.” Eclipse said.
Then Aline remembered something else her loving grandmother said to her before, “My grandmother one day, spoke of a place where all dragons from.”
“She did?” Dart asked.
“Yes. She said ‘The Hidden World is an old sea-faring legend about a land at the edge of the world, where many sailors have lost their ships — never to be seen again. Those who have returned reported sightings of a great waterfall and dragons guarding the entrance to a hidden world beneath the sea. A land from which all dragons hail.’.”
“Ah yes. The Hidden World would be perfect. That’s where we come from; our ancestral home.” Eclipse replied. “It completely untouched by any ponies and your mother would never be able to find you there.”
Aline nodded before she took out an ancient map that held the way to the Hidden World, her grandmother said this map was given to her by her own mother and it’s been in their family for generations.
According to the map, they would have to make their way out of the Everfree Forest heading true North, going over a large Mountain, through a Marsh, then a desert and then a very dense jungle before they came out to open ocean where the Hidden World laid. “Okay..... guess I’m heading to the Hidden World.” Aline said.
“Don’t worry,”
“We’ll keep you safe,”
“And mommy and daddy have very strong friends too that will protect you too,” Dart, Pouncer and Ruffrunner stated. Aline nodded and smiled at the Night Lights before she put the map back in her saddlebag.
“Okay then,” Aline then mounted Star, “Lead the way,” Star nodded before she and her family flew off in their new journey towards the Hidden World.
