It must get tiring to see the same warnings at the start of these fics, but I'm going to keep posting them just so no one can claim that they weren't warned despite everything else that should be a dead giveaway.
I figured it might be interesting to do a story involving AB/DL within a pre-established relationship, as I can imagine that would be quite a dilemma.
As for a possible timeline, I haven't settled on one but it could take place at any point up until the time skip in "The Last Problem".
Sunburst's "Little" Star
Starlight Glimmer nervously eyed the two ordinary looking saddlebags she was carrying. At first glance they might not have seemed like anything to take notice of. They were just like a dime a dozen or so similarly colored saddlebags ponies carried. Even their size gave nothing away. To an unfamiliar, untrained eye they would not arouse suspicion at all.
Starlight knew better: She knew what was contained within the bags. The mare was currently bringing them to the front door of the castle in which she lived. A castle that belonged to Princess Twilight Sparkle, her former mentor and the first friend she had made in several years. Another friend of hers, one she'd known from childhood and had re-connected with just a few years ago was due to show up at the front door any moment now: Sunburst.
Sunburst's visit had given Starlight an uneasy feeling deep inside. It was no secret by now that the two were a couple, they'd been on dates several times already and kept in touch frequently through letters. To say nothing of the adventures they'd shared. But what Starlight was going to do today (and possibly tonight depending on how things went) was uncharted territory. She'd weighed the pros and cons mentally for days, and even now there was a nagging feeling in the back of her mind that wouldn't leave her alone. A feeling that kept on asking her: "Should I really be doing this?"
Well, any chance to reconsider went right out the door when Starlight heard Sunburst knocking on the castle's front door. It would be rude not to let him in. And once she did there was little reason not to share the contents of her saddlebags with that fine stallion. She couldn't read minds (and Twilight had made her swear off even considering spells that could do so), she had no way to know how Sunburst would react when she disclosed her secret to him.
Lighting up her horn, Starlight Glimmer threw open the doors as Sunburst stood on the other side in all his glory! He still wore that cape that made him look like a wizard (even though she knew he wasn't one), and he still had that goatee hanging down from his chin. He hadn't brought anything with him besides the cape on his back. "Hey, Starlight," He greeted as he trotted up and gave her a kiss. "Nice to see you again, sweetheart."
Starlight felt a faint blush form on her cheeks and did her best to play it off. Even after all this time she was still uneasy about public displays of affection (or maybe she was just that nervous about what she was about to do). "It's... good to see you too, cutie pie. You're looking... as well as you usually do."
Sunburst smiled as he shut the doors behind him. "Always want to look my best for my special somepony," He declared, before his wandering eyes fell upon the heavy saddle bags Starlight had on her. It naturally didn't take long for him to inquire about them. "Um, what's up with the bags? I thought you said we weren't going out tonight."
"Oh, we aren't," Starlight was quick to answer, the blush on her cheeks growing by the second. "You uh... did come alone, right?"
"Of course I did," Sunburst nodded, suspecting nothing. "We've got the entire castle to ourselves for the weekend. No big obligations either of us need to tend to. So, why do you need the saddlebags?"
This was it, the moment of truth! Starlight Glimmer felt a knot begin to form in her heart, but she willed herself to be strong as she slowly opened up the bags. She couldn't even think of the words she wanted to say. What could she say? What should she say?
Fortunately, there was not a need to as Sunburst quickly saw what was pouring out from the heavy saddlebags as they were set on the ground via his marefriend's magic. But what he saw made him blink. He even removed his glasses to rub his eyes just to make sure he wasn't seeing things. Indeed, he was not.
Before the two unicorns now rested a variety of colored onesies and matching sets of hoofie pajamas, all of which contained extra space in the back and a hatch opened and closed via a zipper (as opposed to the more difficult button variety). Next to the onesies and pajamas were a variety of colored pacifiers, except these were far too big to fit into the mouth of a pony like Flurry Heart. Their size left no doubt that they were meant for a full grown mare. Next came a bunch of foal toys that looked quite worn: Rattles, a pair of fake keys, some stuffed animals and of course alphabet blocks.
But all of these objects were nothing compared to what was shown off last: An entire box worth of adult sized Silly Filly brand diapers, all in pristine condition even though the box they were in had been hastily ripped open. They looked so thick they could almost be mistaken for pillows or clouds if not for the colored tapes on the sides, to say nothing of the printed wetness indicators. And next to the box of diapers were a package of scented wet wipes, a tube of rash cream and of course a bottle of cornstarch foal powder.
Just like that, Starlight had gone and spilled out an entire nursery's worth of supplies one would need for taking care of a foal. A really big foal.
"Starlight, are you trying to say that you're..." Sunburst began as the realization dawned on him.
Opting to rip off the bandage, Starlight immediately interrupted and blurted out at the top of her lungs! "An adult foal, yes! That's why I wanted to make sure you and I were alone, you were the only one I wanted to show this side of myself off to. So, here it is."
An uncomfortable and awkward silence filled the air after Starlight confessed to her coltfriend. She didn't dare to move a muscle, not even when she saw that Sunburst wasn't moving and barely seemed to be blinking. Had she gone and broken him somehow? What was she even thinking showing off this side of herself to somepony who'd probably already had his fill of foalsitting from tending to Flurry Heart?
At last, it seemed as if Sunburst managed to find his voice and the words he wanted to say as he pushed his glasses into place. "Starlight... how long have you... uh... had this interest?"
"You mean... you're not mad or upset or anything?" Starlight questioned. Part of her wondered if she was dreaming, but she knew better than to assume that. This was all too real.
Sunburst shook his head. "Oh no, of course not. This is a lot to take in all at once, but if there was anypony who'd have an interest in stuff like this it would be you," And he proceeded to ask again. "How long have you had this interest, though? What brought it on, if I may ask?"
Starlight Glimmer gulped and swallowed hard. "I really don't know, Sunburst. I mean, I guess part of it is because of my childhood. Because of the way my dad treated me for so long and because of how much it hurt when you left me. But for the longest time I was too obsessed with cutie marks or revenge to ever give those feelings much thought," She began to put a hoof to her chin. "I guess it might have been seeing Flurry Heart. That's when I think I began to start noticing these feelings. But I didn't start giving them much thought until I graduated from being Twilight's student."
The stallion with a beautiful orange coat nodded his head slowly. "I see. I dabbled a little bit in psychology in my spare time, mostly for reading. I read once about Adult Foals from somewhere, can't remember where. Never really thought about you being one though."
"I just figured that with the way Flurry Heart was, you'd want nothing to do with more foals." Starlight commented. She was still feel rather nervous but at the same time relieved that Sunburst was so accepting.
Sunburst reassuringly replied to his marefriend. "Oh, Flurry Heart isn't that bad, really. Once I got used to her she wasn't much of a hoofful at all, even diaper changes weren't a problem. I imagine you'd be just like a bigger version of Flurry Heart, just a little more well behaved."
Starlight let out a nervous giggle. "It's kind of funny you should say that, actually. Because I was kind of thinking that maybe you could... well..." She trailed off while fidgeting with her hooves, unable to bring herself to say the obvious.
"Oh, you want me to care for you?" Sunburst offered in what sounded like genuine curiosity. "Diaper you? Play with you? Feed you? All that stuff?"
"I-if you... want to," Starlight nervously replied. By now the blush on her cheeks had grown so much her entire face was all but turning red. She felt so warm and so flustered. "But you know what that would entail. You'd get the whole package, and that includes diaper changes."
Sunburst nodded and ruffled Starlight's mane. "Kind of silly not to anticipate that when you've got wipes and power. But I'll bet it's not the same changing yourself as it is having somepony to do it for you. Most little ones need someone they trust to take care of them after all."
The unicorn mare giggled behind a hoof. "Yeah, something like that. I mean, I don't exactly have a changing table or anything but I'm sure we can improvise. Or I could, you know, not use my diapers. I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable. Whatever you feel like doing or not doing with me is fine. You don't even have to be my caretaker if you really don't want to."
"If it'll make you happy, Starlight, then why not?" Sunburst offered. "As your colt friend I want you to be honest with me. If doing all of... that is something you like to do, that's okay with me. It can't hurt to try it just this once, just between the two of us. At least that way we'll know whether this is something that we truly feel comfortable doing together. What do you say? It's your choice, after all."
Starlight Glimmer's response was to leap up and tackle Sunburst into a full body hug, her earlier anxiety and uncertainty having momentarily left her. "Oh, you really didn't have to do this! But I'm so glad you did! I don't know how to even begin to thank you, Sunburst! This really means a lot to me."
The unicorn stallion smiled as he slowly stood up. "I'm sure it does, Starlight," Then he cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses again. "Now then, little one. I think we should start by getting you padded. Don't need you having an accident on the nice clean floors, now do we?"
Starlight could only nod in approval, her entire body full of anticipation. This was it, this was actually happening! Even in her wildest dreams she couldn't have imagined Sunburst agreeing to be her caretaker. "At least I can trust he won't go completely overboard with it like my dad would." She thought to herself, as that had been the logic by which she decided to come out as an adult foal to him rather than to her father (who would've most certainly been happy to have his little "pumpky wumpkin" back).
Sunburst moved quickly to pick up one of the diapers with his magic, carefully setting the rest of the foal supplies aside for the time being so as to give himself and his charge some much needed space. "Okay, Star," He instructed in an almost fatherly like tone. "Lie down for me. It'll be easier to put the diaper on that way."
Starlight trotted over and obeyed without question, laying on her back as she looked up into Sunburst's eyes to try to gauge his sincerity. Up to this point she could only dream about what it would be like to have somepony else do the diapering, now she would actually get to experience it.
Despite the fact that he had never done this with a full grown pony before, the stallion proved to be surprisingly quick at getting the job done. He soon had the diaper floated over, strapping it snuggly around his mare friend's rump and fastening the tabs, admiring how her tail poked out through that hole in the back. The whole time a series of audible, crisp crinkles echoed throughout the castle. Then, just for the sake of it, he opted to pour a generous helping of foal powder into the back of the diaper.
When Starlight moved to sit up, some of the powder spilled out as a small cloud. She giggled before preparing to light up her horn to clean up the spill.
Sunburst quickly stopped her by ruffling her mane once more. "Ah ah ah, little one. This is my mess, so I'll clean it up. In fact, you shouldn't have to worry about any such big pony things," He floated over a light purple colored pacifier that just matched the colors of Starlight's coat. "Might as well complete the look."
After a bit of hesitation, Starlight Glimmer accepted the pacifier and let it be inserted into her mouth. She began to slowly suckle on it as the rubber bulb bounced up and down in her mouth. With each suckle she could feel her worries start to slowly melt away. She quickly abandoned her idea of cleaning the spilled foal powder, opting to let Sunburst do it like a good caretaker should.
Sunburst then picked up the rest of the supplies, carefully stuffing them back into the saddlebags before he slung them over his shoulders. He was not prepared for how heavy they felt, yet somehow he managed under the strain. "Maybe we should put all this stuff somewhere else," He wheezed out to Starlight, who was plopped on her padded rump, suckling away on her pacifier. The stallion waited patiently for a reply that never came. "Uh, you can talk now if you want."
Starlight popped the pacifier out of her mouth, letting it dangle from a little string that it was attached to. "Oh, sorry. I've never really roleplayed as an actual foal before. It's so... weird to have somepony else make decisions for me."
"Oh, well we can stop if it makes you uncomfortable." Sunburst offered.
Starlight shook her head. "No no no, it's fine. We just need to establish a system, that's all. You can just let me know if you want me to speak up or not. I can just stay silent when you need me to."
The unicorn stallion slowly blinked in apparent understanding. "Okay. Well, we still need to figure out where we're going to store all your 'supplies'."
The diapered mare just proposed. "Put them in my bedroom. That's where I'd been keeping them most of the time."
"Ah, good idea!" Sunburst agreed with a nod. "Can't believe I didn't think of that sooner," He looked over to see Starlight struggling a bit to get up on all fours with her thick diaper spreading her legs outward. The stallion couldn't help but snicker, then offered to Starlight. "You need any help walking around with your diaper on?"
Starlight shook her head once again. "Nope, I'm good. I've had lots of experience with such thick diapers," Then she blushed. "You can still hold my hoof if you want to, though. You know, just to make it feel more authentic."
Sunburst accepted the offer and slowly led his padded marefriend away by the hoof. The sounds of the crinkling diaper that echoed throughout the castle's halls. He looked back to see his marefriend's movements now had a noticeable (and oh so adorable in his mind) waddle.
When the two unicorns finally reached Starlight's bedroom and entered it, Starlight immediately plopped down onto the floor (with a noticeable poof of foal powder) while Sunburst went about storing away most of her foal supplies: He put the extra pacifiers, the diapers, the changing supplies, the onesies and matching pajamas away in various drawers or under the bed. "Huh, thought for sure you'd have a crib or something."
Starlight answered. "Never got around to it. Besides, it would be too obvious. I couldn't risk anyone ever finding out."
"I'm guessing that means even Twilight and Trixie don't know about this?" Sunburst guessed out loud.
"I thought about telling Twilight and her friends, but I didn't wanna make things awkward for either of them. My friendship with Twilight was already complicated because I used to be her student but now I'm not," Starlight explained. "And Trixie, well I don't know if she'd even listen to me if I tried to tell her."
Sunburst then questioned. "And Maud?"
"She's got Mudbriar to keep her busy, I wouldn't want to intrude." Starlight insisted with a blush.
"Hey, if you don't wanna tell them I won't tell them. This can just be our little secret, silly filly," Sunburst said with a knowing wink before floating over the various foal toys. "Now why don't you just focus on something else? Play with whatever you feel like. I'll be right here if you need anything."
Starlight didn't answer, she just popped the pacifier back into her mouth and slowly crawled across the floor with what looked like practiced precision.
Sunburst, for his part, kept his word and took up the role of a silent observer. He just kept a watchful eye over Starlight as she began to play with some alphabet blocks, the expression on her face slowly and subtly changing as her "little" self started to come out more. She then started to stack the blocks not unlike a foal. No doubt it was a sign that she felt safe and secure, confident that Sunburst wouldn't judge or think any less of her for this.
Sunburst had to admit that looking at his marefriend, seeing her dressed only with a diaper strapped so securely around her rump, along with the pacifier bobbing up and down in her mouth most definitely made her look cute. He found himself unable to resist letting out an "Aw" as he continued to observe and watch over Starlight during her playtime.
As for Starlight, the only sounds that could be heard from her as she shifted from one toy to another, were the rhythmic suckling of her pacifier and the occasional crinkle from her diaper as she moved about.
For a good hour or so (not that either of them was really keeping track) the two unicorns played out their respective roles within the unofficial nursery that Starlight's bedroom had turned into. Neither spoke a word and neither needed to do so, their expressions and eye contact conveyed more than words how they were feeling. It seemed like both were growing into their roles with the greatest of ease, much to each other's mutual relief.
Eventually, however, Sunburst came to a conclusion based on what he was certain was a faint rumble coming from his diapered marefriend's stomach. "Is my little star hungry?" He asked in a cooing tone of voice as he approached her.
Starlight popped her pacifier right out in shock! If not for the string attached to it it probably would've ended up on the floor. "Huh?" It seemed like she had momentarily forgotten where she was, so observed in her playtime. "I mean, you're the caretaker. Do what you think is right."
"I don't wanna feed you if you're not hungry yet," Sunburst responded. "Though I'm pretty sure you are."
Starlight rolled her eyes as she crossed her hooves, then replied. "If you think I'm hungry then I'm hungry. That's how this works. Or were you waiting for me to tell you?"
The unicorn stallion just blinked. "I didn't mean to interrupt your playtime."
Starlight shook her head with a smile. "It's alright, I was getting bored anyway," She slowly stood up, then her cheeks flushed pink as she became reminded of something she had been neglecting to take care of for some time now. "Uh, can you maybe wait a little bit? You know... so I can..."
Sunburst quickly realized what Starlight was implying. "Oh, sure. Just let me know when you're done, okay? I won't look." And true to his word he turned his head and covered his eyes with his hooves, thus giving his padded marefriend some privacy.
Starlight Glimmer sighed and relaxed, swishing her tail as her diaper quickly grew warm. The padding quickly absorbed it, but it had been a long time since she'd needed to use the bathroom and it took quite a while for her bladder to empty itself. By the time she was done, her diaper had swelled up quite a bit from how damp it was.
"Finished?" Sunburst asked in that almost fatherly like tone he'd been taking on more and more since this had all started.
"Yeah, I think so." The padded mare reluctantly answered.
Sunburst turned around quite slowly. It was quite easy to tell that the padding was wet, the wetness indicators alone were proof due to them having faded away completely. "Wow, you're quite a soaker aren't you?!" He teased before lighting up his horn, opening the drawers and pulling the package of diapers out from under the bed.
Starlight just popped her pacifier back into her mouth and suckled on it. She kicked about in her squishy diaper as she knew what was coming next.
"Alright, lie down again," Sunburst instructed. "Don't need you to get a rash now, crinklebutt."
So Starlight laid down, surrendering herself fully as Sunburst worked quick as a flash to change her out of that wet diaper and into a dry one. He was very gentle with the wipes, taking care not to go too fast. He made sure not to go overboard on the foal powder this time, though he still opted to give the new diaper a gentle pat. "You're pretty good at this." She couldn't help but comment afterward, forgetting about the pacifier which thus gave her words a bit of a lisp.
Sunburst found the lisp oh so adorable. "Well, I've had lots of experience from taking care of Flurry Heart. You saw what a typical foalsitting experience with her can be like. You're nowhere near as much of a hoofful as she can be."
The freshly diapered mare slowly blinked in reply, not sure how to take that. "I guess that's a compliment?"
The unicorn stallion firmly nodded. "It most certainly is. Now, just give me a minute to bag this up and then we'll get you fed."
The two unicorns made their way out of Starlight's bedroom (with the smell of fresh foal powder wafting through the castle), wandering down the castle's long hallways hoof in hoof until they reached the kitchen. Starlight Glimmer carefully plopped herself down into one of the chairs, letting her rear slowly sink into her diaper as she did so. She then popped her pacifier out and opted to clumsily use her hooves to remove the string from her neck (it never occurred to her to just use her magic, so ingrained was her little self into her mind at the moment).
As for Sunburst, he floated over a bib he'd found in one of the drawers in Starlight's bedroom earlier. "Do you mind?" He asked his fellow unicorn. "I haven't decided on what to feed you yet, but I figured you should look the part."
Starlight happily accepted the bib without hesitation. "Never hurts to be prepared. Don't wanna leave any messes for you to clean up."
Sunburst just smiled and winked. "I wouldn't mind cleaning up after one if I had to, little one," He'd soon tied it around her neck and floated the pacifier over to the sink. "I should probably get that cleaned for you. Besides, you have a lot more pacifiers where this one came from," He then set it aside. "But for now, what am I gonna feed you? I doubt you have any foal food."
"Could always just chop up some carrots or something," Starlight suggested. "I'm not really a picky eater."
"Okay then. Just wait right here and I'll be back with food." The unicorn stallion declared as he then disappeared further into the kitchen.
Starlight waited for several minutes until Sunburst reappeared, presenting her with a plate of salad. "Gotta make sure you're eating right so you grow up big and strong." He nudged it towards her and sat down in a chair nearby.
Sunburst was quite surprised when he saw his marefriend unceremoniously stare at the plate. "Is there something wrong?" He inquired with concern.
Starlight Glimmer kicked about in her pampers and giggled. "Well yeah. I mean, I can't feed myself now can I?"
The unicorn stallion quickly realized his mistake. How silly of him not to have anticipated such a problem. Foals didn't know how to use silverware and then explained. "Oh of course, my bad. Sorry about that, it's still a little hard to get used to all of this," He then scooted his chair closer to Starlight's, using his magic to pick up the fork and levitate over some of the salad. "Open wide." He cooed.
The padded mare obeyed, opening her mouth as best she could and letting Sunburst do the rest. The salad tasted so delicious, her coltfriend was definitely no slouch in the kitchen. This process repeated itself several times over until the plate was empty. Starlight was surprised at just how big a salad Sunburst had made for her, or that she was able to eat every last bite. Apparently, she was a lot more hungry than she'd initially realized. By the time she was done she felt nice and full.
"Now, how about some milk to wash that all down?" Sunburst offered with a wink once he saw Starlight's plate was empty.
"But I don't have any bottles!" Starlight unhappily protested.
"So, who says you need one? Just a plastic cup will do for now," Sunburst insisted. "I can make sure to bring a baby bottle with me for next time. I'm sure if I cleaned one of Flurry's old ones real well it would work just fine." And he made a mental note to remember that for if indeed there was a "next time".
So Starlight Glimmer settled for milk from a plastic cup, relieved to at least be allowed to drink while sitting in Sunburst's lap. It really helped to make the experience feel more authentic, like she truly was a little foal. She continued to be amazed at how easily Sunburst was settling into his role despite his initial hesitancy.
"Wow, she must've been thirsty! She's drinking down the milk like no tomorrow!" Sunburst thought to himself as he observed how quickly the milk was disappearing from the plastic cup he'd given Starlight. Without even asking, as soon as she was finished he moved to pat her back.
Starlight didn't even get a chance to ask what he was doing as she let out an audible belch. "Oh, excuse me!" She exclaimed in embarrassment, though she had to admit she felt a bit less "full" for lack of a better term.
The stallion with a beautiful orange coat just stroked his goatee. "It's alright, you're excused," He then gently scooted her out of his lap before he moved to rise from his chair. "So, I guess we just play some more until bedtime?"
"Yeah, or until something else comes up," Starlight declared as she rose from her chair and stretched a bit, promptly offering her hoof to her coltfriend once again. "Shall we?"
Sunburst happily accepted the offer and the two went back to the more or less makeshift nursery that Starlight's bedroom had become, content to spend the hours doing what they'd already been doing. And upon entering said bedroom, the first thing Starlight did was use her magic to retrieve a new pacifier (this one the same orange color as Sunburst's coat) to pop into her mouth.
However, while playing with some of the stuffed animals some time later, Starlight Glimmer became aware of a situation that she probably should've expected after a tasty meal. It began with a faint rumble and gurgling in her stomach, and it slowly progressed into a pressure that built up in her rear.
Sunburst didn't notice anything was wrong until he saw Starlight abruptly stand up. "What's up, Star?" He asked with concern.
The padded mare groaned, putting a hoof to her chest as the rumbling and gurgling in her stomach grew more intense. "I... I have to... you know..." She looked across to the door. Her eyes conveying better than words what was bothering her.
The unicorn stallion was slow to respond as the realization settled in. "Oh, I see," The next words left his mouth even slower. "Well... I mean, you have a diaper on. I can change you if you want."
"R-really?" Starlight's eyes widened in shock! "I mean, you know what's gonna happen. You really think you can handle it?"
Sunburst just replied. "Can't be harder than when Flurry Heart does it. It's up to you though, if you don't wanna do it you don't have to. You can change yourself or you can use the bathroom."
Starlight stood there in silence for a moment or two, contemplating her options. At last, she looked at Sunburst and said to him. "Well... whatever you think is best."
"Just do what you have to, Star." Sunburst insisted and then turned his head, covering his eyes with a hoof and plugging his nose just to be safe.
So Starlight Glimmer sighed and took a deep breath. She spread her legs apart as her tail hiked up. She stopped trying to fight back and started pushing. Thankfully, it was over quickly and once she'd finished her stomach and gut felt a lot better. Of course, there was still the strong and familiar stench that began permeating the area.
Sunburst just turned back around when he was certain the coast was clear. If the smell bothered him at all he didn't show it outwardly as he seemed to tease. "Star, really? I just changed you not that long ago."
The blush on the padded mare's face returned with a vengeance. "S-sorry."
The unicorn stallion just patted his marefriend on the forehead, reassuring her. "It's alright, you can't help it. Let's just get you cleaned up. You'll have to stand up for this one though."
"Okay with me. Ready when you are." Starlight encouraged. She obviously wanted to be in a clean diaper as soon as possible.
Sunburst held his breath and moved even faster than he had during the previous diaper change, no doubt motivated by the smell. He had the tabs undone in record time, carefully floating it over to a waiting trash bag that he then sealed as tightly as he could. He'd ask Starlight for advice on how to take care of the "evidence" later. From there, he levitated over at least a dozen or so of the scented wet wipes and cleaned Starlight's rump until it was spotless. Then he put a new diaper on her and sprinkled in the foal powder, both ponies enjoying the much nicer scent of cornstarch.
"Okay, now what should we do with the old diaper?" Sunburst asked his marefriend when the change was over. "You got a way to get rid of it so nopony will find out?"
Starlight nodded. "Just bury it with the rest of the trash. It's trash night anyway."
So the unicorn stallion did just that, returning quickly after stopping in the bathroom to wash his hooves. In fact, that gave him an idea as he suggested to Starlight. "Why don't I give you a bath? You know, just to make sure there's nothing left on your coat after your..." He coughed into a hoof. "'Accident'."
Starlight nodded again. A nice, warm bath sounded pretty good, especially so close to her bed time. And so she let herself be led away to the bathroom by Sunburst, soon sitting on the bathroom floor (popping her pacifier out of her mouth in the process) while he turned on the bathtub faucet. She watched as he adjusted the temperature as the tub slowly filled up.
Once Sunburst was certain the tub had filled up enough and that the temperature wasn't too hot or too cold, he carefully helped Starlight in.
"You know, for somepony who's never dealt with adult foals, you sure made for a good caretaker," Starlight commented to her coltfriend while she soaked in the tub, splashing around a bit and playing with a rubber ducky just for the fun of it. "You handled everything a lot better than I thought you would."
Sunburst only stroked his goatee yet again while smiling. "Just doing what I can to make you happy, Starlight. You were the one who took that first step by exposing this side of yourself to me. I was mostly winging it based on my experiences with Flurry Heart. But obviously, not everything I did for her is necessarily what you want or need."
Starlight Glimmer smiled back, pulling Sunburst close and planting a kiss on his nose. "I'm just so glad you went through with all of this. You really didn't need to."
"Really, it was nothing. It was actually quite interesting, definitely an educational experience," The stallion told his fellow unicorn. "Besides, it helps give me practice in case I ever have a family of my own someday."
Starlight blushed anew at the mention of "family". "Well, you definitely didn't go overboard like I know my dad would've."
Sunburst couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, your father certainly would've been more... enthusiastic about all of this. Guess it's a good thing you didn't tell him," Then he cleared his throat. "You know, maybe we should do this again sometime? If you want to, that is."
"Oh, I was actually just about to ask you that!" Starlight excitedly declared! "Having you as a go to caretaker would be so nice. You're onboard with the idea?"
The stallion nodded in confirmation. "Yeah, every once and a while. It's a chance for us to explore new boundaries. Plus, you're cute when you have a diaper on."
The unicorn mare let out a foalish giggle. "You don't think it makes my butt look big, do you?"
Sunburst shook his head. "Now why would you ever think that?" He declared in a teasing tone of voice before he began to laugh as well.
When the bath was over and Starlight had been dried off, she was quickly diapered again. Then, she walked hoof in hoof with Sunburst yet again, trotting with him back to her bedroom where he helped her to put on a pajama set that was a lovely baby blue in color and a similarly colored onesie with yellow stars all over it.
Once that was done, Sunburst helped Starlight Glimmer into bed and stood by her side, watching as she popped that pacifier back into her mouth yet again. And it seemed like concentrating on its rhythmic sucking did the trick when it came to helping her fall asleep. Slowly but surely her eyes began to droop, and almost before Sunburst realized it his marefriend was soundly snoring away.
Looking down at her, it was impossible for Sunburst to think she didn't look so peaceful and cute. How lucky was he to have her, not just as a friend but a marefriend. A marefriend willing to share such deep secrets with him even though doing so had meant going out on such a huge limb. To think that part of it might very well stem back to the trauma she'd felt after he had left her all those years ago.
Well, not any more. Sunburst was going to be there for her now, as a friend, a coltfriend and a caretaker. Whatever Starlight needed him to be was what he would be.
The stallion stood by Starlight's bed for a little bit longer, just to make sure she was absolutely asleep. Once he was certain that she wouldn't be waking up anytime soon, he bent down and sweetly kissed her on the forehead. "Sweet dreams, my little Star." He softly called before tiphooving to the bedroom door.
Starlight, for her part, would sleep peacefully. All her troubles had left her. And in her dreams she would imagine herself with Sunburst, fully in his trusting care while her every need was tended to. She could be sure now that he would never leave her again.
