Chapters Monstra Monstrum: Nuckelavee's Siege
"Off the train lads, we have a party to crash!" I yelled as the new Tier 1 Hunters dragged the cage holding the Wendigo off the train. "Oh, you're a healthy one. You're definitely worth the 20k bits."
"Hands off Clover," I froze as my confidence dropped after hearing that voice, "this mission was lead by me. After we're done, I'll let the Monstra Scientia take them as long as you dispose of it properly this time." I could see and hear all those Tier 1s place their hats over their heart swiftly before kneeling with their heads down. Scarfs, cloaks, and caps were swept over their arms that didn't hold their hats (typically done with the dominant hand).
I turned around and placed my hat over my heart before offering a light bow. "Occisar, what a pleasant surprise! I was unaware of you being one of the Hunters on this assignment!" I didn't need to do much as he said certain tiers had certain perks and one of those being not needing to use my cap or kneel. "What of the Hunters who lost their lives in this excursion?"
"We had none." I couldn't believe what I heard. Not a single death! Incredible! "We were able to capture this one and kill one other." The human looked down at the ground before him.
"I see, you put him to rest." The Tier 1s had begun to hoist the cage onto the cart where two Earth Ponies were ready to pull. "It's a shame Blue Jay became possessed. He was the first among us to achieve Tier 3 in the guild. Did you display of both the spirit and body? I heard that it was a separate process if the Wendigo had possessed someone."
"No, the process is the same. Nothing needed to be changed. It was the research of Blue Jay that had led us to this conclusion. He will forever be known as the Origin for his studies in the Beast." I looked down at my hooves as the only Tier 4 Hunter, Occisar, placed his lever action within a wool and leather sheath on his back. I hadn't realized that he had taken his shotgun.
It was a rather recent invention of the Scientia that we had shown him. He named it as his people had already made many like it. I have never seen him smile that brightly in a while. It may have been four months since the Monstra Monstrum had come into the limelight, but we were making progress. This shotgun was a testament to that.
I won't lie, I was hesitant at first to follow someone half my age, but he truly was a Professional. Cold, yet kind in his own way. I've read his private journal in secret, and he has said why he's so despondent. He wishes to distance himself from others to save them the suffering of loss if he died. However, he has stated multiple times that they are not meant to be kind, they are meant to be good.
One of our first lessons is a choice, sacrifice one good working family man to save three bums or let the bums die. It wasn't a test of morality, it was a test to see if you were willing to see the right choice. We couldn't let personal morals cloud our judgment.
"Hold." Occisar said while holding up a fist. "Do you hear that?" I listened for anything, but nothing came to mind. I soon heard a full baritone growl reverberate around the empty streets. "Clover!!!" I hadn't realized that I was in the air until I could see the shining lights of the Grand Galloping Gala.
I had hoped to see it one day. To see the dresses of the other mares. I always wondered what a mare in high society would say to a tom-colt like me. It was a goal of mine to see the Gala with my own eyes. Things were getting dark and I couldn't feel much of my right side, but I was going to that party even if I was sleeping. Occisar, please tell me all about it when I wake up.
... Is that gun fire?
Monstra Monstrum: Nuckelavee's Siege
Third Person-Grand Galloping Gala
Celestia looked over to the multitude of gunfire that had disrupted her speech to her esteemed guest from other countries. "I thought I told him not to purposefully disrupt the Gala." Celestia said before her sister walked besides her and rested a hand on her shoulder.
"We've known Occisar long enough to foresee this happening. He does not like parties." Luna said as she walked past Celestia, a martini resting in her navy blue hands. "Besides, I asked him to fetch something for me. Something that would aid the world in the long run." Celestia glared at her sister, Luna had always come to the defense of the teenage human.
Towards the wall sat the newly crowned Queen of the Griffins; Gilda. She wasn't much for authority, but she was well known for aiding in the communications between carnivorous and herbivorous species on the planet. It was because of her that the dragons had begun to migrate with less secrecy.
However, that meant nothing to what she just heard. The lunar princess coming to the aid of some stallion was almost unheard of. What creeped her out was the name Luna used to call the stallion. It was an old language, but almost necessary to learn since it was used to speak to other countries without a second party dropping in. Occisar, old tongue for killer, but used as a name was... Unsettling.
What she couldn't understand was why this Occisar was firing cannons during such an important time in the political world. Did he not care for it?
That's when it was heard, a baritone roar that reverberated around the room. Gilda immediately pulled out a pair of swords. Everyone in the hall was silent as guards pointed spears in all directions. All the warrior but the ponies were stood still. The Royal Guard shook to the point it was hard not to hear the shifting of metal plates.
Everyone's guard dropped as the cannon fire and roar ended. Was the creature dead? More accurately, was the manticore dead? That was the only thing that could have made that sound. Party guest tried to reason what that roar was.
"Guess it was nothing." Hey set said as his wife and him had climbed out from under a table.
Just then, the doors to the Gala were kicked open. There stood a boy, to those not native to Equestria, he had to be around 10 years old. That's what they could've gotten from his silhouette at the very least.
He walked in will a cart behind him. Harnesses once holding ponies now hung limply from the bar. Nothing more than the bottom half of corpses remained attached. Infact, a portion of the corpse was on top of the cloth covering the tall box within the cart. It was only noticable to those who were at eye leven with the princesses.
In the back, six ponies watch on with horror as an unknown species walked into the room, a miniature cannon in his hand, a cart covered in blood dragged by the other.
"Luna, I have your order." The creature said in a surprisingly deep voice. Jet Set glared at the boy as he opened his noble mouth.
"How dare you just barge in here! You have no right to..." He was silenced by the kid pointing the tiny cannon at the stallion.
"Shut up before I kill you." The kid didn't even spare a glance at the stallion. "As I said before, one delivery for Luna." The boy pulled the cloth off the box now clearly being a cage. A skinny monster reached for the unknown creature. "One Wendigo safely transported!"
"I see you've sustained heavy losses against the Wendigos. I'll ask if there are any volunteers who would be willing to fight with you." The boy raised his hand to silence the princess. This angered many of the royals attending the Gala. He had no respect for the mare who offered to help him replenish his forces.
"You have some nerve treating royalty like that..." A dragon yelled as he marched towards the kid.
"Enough!" Celestia yelled as she looked at the boy. "Do not challenge Occisar!" The whole room looked at the boy.
"This child is Occisar?" The dragon huffed in annoyance before sizing him up.
"Don't bother trying to kill him. He will kill you first. We had lost several nobles to his rather effective, yet barbaric methods." Occisar chuckled darkly as he looked up at the dragon, his hat falling off his head, and his barely contained anger let loose.
"Threaten me again and I will show you why I'm hired to kill Beast" The dragon backed away, Occisar's bloodlust and anger was a sight to behold as it even scared a dragon into submission. "We sustained no losses in capturing the Wendigo."
"What do you mean?" Luna asked, she suspected that they were ambushed by some kind of bandits on the way back.
"We ran into a different kind of Beast on the way through Canterlot." He did something he hasn't done since finishings his investigations on the Wendigo; open his monster encyclopedia. He stopped on a page showing a quadruped equine with a human fused to the back of it. "We were attacking by a Nuckelavee." Occisar pulled out a pencil and began writing in his book. "The one we faced was at least three stories tall by your standards. Conventional bullets hurt it, but standard silver did more damage." He stopped writing as he had just finished putting in the new information. "The three story Nuckelavee was a baby. I saw the mom, and that bitch was well over 40 meters tall. You know what that means right... Celestia?"
"Oh no." Celestia said in fear as she fidgeted with her hands.
"Exactly, that 'theory' that the Wendigos was some random coincidence, is false. I believe that someone is opening gates to my world and letting horrors in." Occisar stared blankly as he stared at Celestia with a saddened look. "That means you win the bet." Occisar looked up before shooting up at a window on the ceiling. "Mind picking that up, thanks."
Something fell through the glass. It wasn't a pretty sight as what fell through was the corpse of a half eaten mare. She had the Skull of Proving placed upon her right Brest to show she had passed the tests. The entire left side of her body was gone as entrails spilled onto the floor, her face was that of confusion before her gruesome, untimely death.
"Almost forgot!" Occisar had freed the Wendigo as those near it had gone to the farthest wall. The Wendigo charged at Occisar, hoping to have a tasty meal, only to meet a painful death. Limb by limb, Occisar had cut it to pieces before throwing salt on the corpse of the beast and lighting it ablaze. The fire turned blue, indicating a successful purging ritual, before it let out a loud ear piercing screech.
Occisar's Skull of Proving was much more different than a normal one. Where as it would be a replica of the Hunters species, Occisar's was made of a Wendigo's skull.
"We are unaware if there are other creatures in different parts of the world. Please consider having a Branch of the Monstra Monstrum within your country to fight these Beast. We were a force of two hundred and one baby Nuckelavee killed 199 Hunters. Keep that in mind when you think, but remember; we're professionals, not heros." With that Occisar left. The smoldering corpse of the Wendigo lied burning in the middle of the room, all but it's skull burned away. Occisar threw his shotgun at Luna, it was destroyed. "Bury Clover with that. It was her first creation." His bloodied form disappointed.
Monstra Monstrum: Nuckelavee's Siege
"Occisar! Over here!" I looked over to the voice, I had just stepped off the train from Canterlot. I was told that I would meet up with a few ponies, but I didn't know they were the CMC. I was not looking forward to this.
"Come on Occisar! Let's explore!" Eris yelled as she pulled me farther into the station. "We haven't seen each other in months. I come back from the Crystal Empire and I hear the guild was slaughtered. What did you face?" It has been a long while since we last spoke; let alone seen each other.
"We faced a Nuckelavee. I was ordered to come here to kill the one that seems to inhabit the Everfree." I said was I fixed the rifle holsters on my back. I had a new gun on me to replace the shotgun Clover made when she first joined the Scientia. She was so proud of her first weapon. I should visit her grave to thank her for her final creation; a Hout Automatic.
"Those three are who we're supposed to meet up with. But what are you planning on doing about this Nuckelavee?" Eris asked as we walked towards the CMC. No one but the Monstrum knew about the existence of guns with the exception of those at the party. "I will get the mayor to build a small river around the town to prevent any killings."
"Why does a river matter so much?" Again, we were even closer to the CMC now. Oddly enough, they were ignorant of what was lurking in the forest neighboring their town. What I would give to be them.
"An odd quirk about the Nuckelavee is that they hate water. Fresh water to be specific. I'm not sure why, but it's there." We had to cut the conversation short as we met up with the three young mares. I guess this Equestria deviates more than I thought. The CMC were about my age when they were about half that in the show... Presumably.
"Hey, glad to see you made it." Scootaloo said as we stopped right in front of her. I was able to put on a pleasant smile to hide the sevarity of what was happening.
"Happy to be here. Thanks for showing us around." Eris was understandably confused. I mean, she hasn't really seen this side of me much to my knowledge.she probably has and just forgot like I did. Honestly, I'm just glad the CMC don't see the rifles on my back as a sign to be intimidated.
"We should introduce ourselves; I'm..." I interrupted Sweetie Bell before she could finish as I had a plan to avoid all the introduction shit I can't stand.
"Don't worry, we know who you are. We were told who you were and I'd rather figure things out for myself. Helps me remember things easier." I was surprised that they were notified about us, but how much did they know? I just have to trust Celestia when it comes to what story she crafted to make us less conspicuous. "We were told that you needed to head to the town hall immediately to hand off a letter from the princess. A lot of other ponies are there too which I can only assume would have to be about the letter."
I simply nodded and began to walk in the direction of the town hall. Oddly enough, it was the second tallest building in the town, only beaten by the Castle of Friendship. I expected it to be below the top ten, but I guess that was a pleasant surprise.
"A-aren't you going to allow us to give you a tore?" Apple Bloom asked in a broken tone. It was heard to hear, given that she was my favorite out of the CMC, but I'd rather do this now.
"My messages is important. I'd like to get it out the way before anything else." Old habits die hard I guess. I still stick to a schedule even when I'm technically off duty... Kinda. Depends if I have to shoot someone or not.
"O-oh." She began to walk in the opposite direction of the town center which confused me. "Despite how it looks, this is the fastest way to the town hall. That way is a hot spot for cart traffic and the like." Nodding, I followed her exactly as she directed.
"Here's the town hall!" Sweetie said before I looked up and gaped at the quick walk.
"I... But... The fuck?!" To say I was shocked was an understatement. This should be impossible. How?!
"Like she said, it was faster." Scootaloo said while leaning on the fountain close to the building.
"There you are!" A older sounding mare yelled while getting closer. I had to keep myself from aiming at her out of instinct. "We have everyone gathered in the town hall and waiting for your announcement."
"Wait, everyone?" I asked, a little annoyed that the espionage part was already broken. I wanted to Metal Gear this shit.
"Yes, this would effect everyone, so they're all here." ... Okay, that's fair. She's not wrong.
"Okay." I wasn't in the mood to argue. "Stay with them Eris... Eris?" And now Eris is gone... Great.
"Follow me and you'll be ready to give the announcement in no time." She wasn't kidding about no time. There was a side door that lead to the balcony where Nightmare Moon stood.
"Jesus fuck, you ponies and these unnecessary shortcuts." I looked upon a sea of colors as ponies gathered around. "Alright, I'll make this quick!" No one stopped talking. "SHUT UP!!!" I dealt with this once and I'm not doing it again.
Everyone stopped talking and focused on me. They can listen if they want, but if they don't it's their life at risk, not mine. I could honestly care less about anyone dying here.
"As I said, I'll make this quick." Not a sound came from the crowd, good. "There's a pony eating species of monster roaming around the Everfree called a Nuckelavee." Many blew off my statement as fake and turned away. I can tell some were making jokes. "Nothing new, I guess. I guess my job here is done. Oh, I should mention that a baby wandered into Canterlot and slaughtered around 200 heavily armed monster hunters not to long ago." Again, silence. "I know what it is, I'm trying to find it's weakness. The fact it can hide in flora barely tall enough to reach it's knees is incredible." I'm not making this any better. "I have a plan to make things stay the same. The Nuckelavee can't cross fresh water, don't ask me why because I can't answer. The idea, is to dig a moat around the town so the creature won't come in. It doesn't matter how deep it is, it just has to surround the town."
"How would a kid know so much?!" A voice yelled with a bit of panic. Sounded like the Doctor... Wonder if he has a TARTUS.
"These things came from my world... Or a version of my world... I don't know, they came here before me. I was summoned here to fight them off. Before anyone calls me a Nuckelavee hunter, I was originally summoned to kill Wendigoes." I said before hopping over the railing and sitting on it. I pulled out my lever action and fiddled with it.
"How are you going to figure out it's weakness?!" Was that Applejack? Huh, I guess she does live here. I keep forgetting that she's an element.
"Live bate." No answer.
"Are you that much of an adrenaline junkie?" Fuck you, Applejack.
"I never said that I was going to be the bate." Silence rained over the building.
"Y-your going to feed that monster ponies?" Fluttershy asked, I was kinda expecting her to be more against this.
"If you have a better way of testing what they prefer to eat, then be my guest. Until then, you do your job and I'll do mine. If it makes you feel better, we'll test it with animals first." I smiled knowing that that'll get her angry. She flew up to me in an instant and used The Stare on me.
"Now listen here mister, I don't care how big and tuff you think you are..." Unfortunately for her, I've seen worse.
"Tuff... Oh no, I'm not tuff in the slightest. Infact, I'm pretty weak. The only reason I act like this is because I have to. I have to be that evil. The one willing to kill. I'm expendable." She backed down as I chuckled darkly. I don't know why, but I always found amusement in breaking the innocent. "I came here prepared to die, because I don't care! I will be the worst evil the world has seen to kill these monsters! We are the Monstra Monstrum; the monster of monsters; the children of chaos fighting for order!" Fluttershy backed off as I let all of the fear, anger, and trauma fuel my words. "Unless you know what you have to do to kill these monsters, don't talk to me about morals when there's no other options. You have not seen what I've experienced for months. You have not seen your best friend's corpse being a decoration in the monsters home... And you've certainly not seen a Nuckelavee rip and tear your friends to pieces right in front of you." Fluttershy was now at the brink of crying at my feet. Not for forgiveness, but for mercy. "We're making the moat and no one is going to complain. After that, we'll begin recruiting for the Monstra Monstrum to refill our numbers. Unfortunately, that Nuckelavee attack in Canterlot killed everyone in the guild so I'm the only living member." Rainbow Dash didn't like how I acted and wanted to get some justice... How cute.
"You're not getting off that eas-" I interrupted Rainbow Dash by shooting her wing. She screamed in pain when she hit the ground, but this wasn't her place to talk.
"This is my job. I complete it by any means necessary. Even if I don't like the option, I will do so to get results. If anyone prevents me from finding their den, their desired pray, or their weakness; I'll kill them. Whether they're a child or an Element of Harmony." Pick your side villagers, because this decision is much more clear than you think. I just can't shake that habit of kindness, even if it does mean I get results.
I just gotta put on a show... No one is allowed to get attached... No one.
"Such a fool. You don't realize how attached some are. We'll see each other again, Occisar. Hopefully soon."
Monstra Monstrum: Nuckelavee's Siege
"Hurry up! We're behind schedule!" Occisar yelled at he stood on the outside of the freshwater barrier. There was still several miles worth of digging to do and he was still the only Hunter available. It wasn't an ideal situation, but the Nuckelavee haven't been seen since it's initial attack.
"Give us a second! You forget that there's not many of us here." A female voice responded. The Hunter turned to the mare in question and came face to chest with the local apple mare; Applejack.
"You forget that we're behind schedule because of you." The Hunter wasn't happy that the Element of Honesty constantly threw off his schedule. He didn't want to stand guard longer than he had to; however, the slow pace and the long breaks made it difficult to get anything done.
"Can you blame me?! We know nothing about this so-called monster and haven't seen it. The only one that did is you and the others are conveniently dead! You've only succeeded in scaring the neighbors, traumatizing Fluttershy, and almost crippling Rainbow Dash! No one trusts you, but we're going along with it because you'll kill us if we don't. Ah'm not happy, you're not happy, and you're only succeeding in having everyone hate you!" Occisar looked at her, his expression didn't change except for a slightly raised brow. He wasn't phased much although he did feel a bit happy that he was successfully distancing himself from the others.
"If you're done, get back to work." Applejack sighed before picking up her shovel and walking over to the others that were still working. "You're meal breaks will be extended to two hours, but your breaks are being cut down to two minutes." Occisar turned away from the ponies and faced the Everfree. There were faint sounds of ponies cheering at a longer break. "What the hell?"
Occisar noticed something moving through the foliage. It was fast and and smaller than the Nuckelavee. Occisar raised his Hout Automatic towards the treeline. It was difficult to see past the first few trees since anything past it was pitch black; however, there was something glowing. A single, large, orange eye.
"Everyone, get to the town."
"Why is Occisar being such a hard ass?" Rainbow Dash asked as she stood in the Town Hall.
"Rainbow, I don't mind you hanging out here, but the Princesses gave him absolute authority to-" Mayor Mare began before cracks echoed through the sky.
"Thunder? Rain wasn't scheduled for today." Rainbow said. Soon after she said that, she saw almost the entire town running to the Town Hall.
Within the crowd, she saw Applejack at the very back. She looked as if she was the one who caused the panic.
"Applejack, what's going on?!" Rainbow asked immediately as Applejack barricaded the door.
"Large, black, one eyed wolves." A terrified Applejack responded.
"Open the door, open the door, OPEN THE DOOR RIGHT NOW!!!" A male voice yelled. Applejack recognized the voice and pulled all the barricades down.
Almost instantly, a caramel stallion kicked the door down while carrying half a red stallion.
"Holy shit, Big Mac!" Applejack yelled as she ran to the mutilated stallion. She didn't have to see his face to know he was close to death. "What happened?!"
"We... we... ah... we..." With the excitement of the chase finally dying down, he was struggling to answer.
"Hey, calm down. Take a breath Caramel." Caramel did as his employer said and took a breath.
"We... we tried to help Occisar." His response blew them away. "We saw it. The Nuckelavee... it was throwing those things into the town. It was unbelievably massive. We... we were caught off guard and one tackled Big Mac. Occisar was busy handling the larger hoard running at us, but I couldn't get them off him in time."
"Where's Occisar?" Rainbow asked.
"He ran to the farm house. I don't know what happened after that." Applejack was about to rush out the door.
"Hold on!" Eris said as she materialized in front of the angry mare.
"The rest of mah family is out there!" Applejack reasoned.
"I was sent in advance by Occisar. He's barricaded in the barn with Granny Smith and Applebloom, but he told me to warn everyone about the Harpies."
"What are those things?" Applejack had to calm herself at the mention of a new monster.
"They're flying monsters, but they look as fast as Rainbow Dash. Maybe slower." Almost everyone began to freak out. "They have air superiority."
"Why don't you bring them here?" Rainbow asked.
"I'm blocked from altering reality when around monsters. They just aren't affected by my magic and the same is with Occisar."
"Then bring my family here!" Applejack yelled with pure rage in her eyes.
"If I do, Occisar will try to get here and we're completely surrounded. And, whether you like it or not, he's the only one with the knowledge of these monsters." The Draconiques smiled as she looked at the mare. "Trust me, he doesn't kill ponies randomly or put them in danger without reason."
Occisar was currently in a corner of the barn away from the two Apple Family members. He was recovering from a panic attack after he overwhelmed himself.
"Okay... okay... this got out of hand really quick." He said as he tried to simplify the situation. With how quickly everything went downhill, no one can blame him for freaking out... Right?
"Hey, Occisar! The barricades are set! Nothin's gittin' in!" An old mare said. Occisar knew her as Granny Smith, but she seemed a little more put together than the show implied.
That was enough of a signal from for him to break out of his fear. He couldn't be seen as a coward. If he was, then moral would fall quickly and then productivity would collapse.
"Good. You should stay as high up as possible in case the Shucks get in. Applebloom, can you create a few spikes facing the door?" Occisar asked.
"Spikes?" Applebloom questioned.
"Let me show you." He grabbed a few sticks that would have been used as firewood. He then placed the two shortest in an X formation and then placed the longest over it; creating a clear front. He then pulled a small rope from his equipment pouch and tied it together. Finally, he sharpened the long stick to a fine point. "Like this. It'll act as a little defense if they get in."
"Will it kill them!" Her face had an unsure expression.
"I don't know. Shucks are said to be demons or evil spirits, so this could be more like a minor roadblock than a wall." He then shouldered his Hout rifle. "My bullets are silver so it should be able to kill them. If possible, I'd like to keep a few alive for testing."
Applebloom and Occisar worked on the spikes. The sounds of Shucks outside and attempting to breakdown the door didn't help their anxiety. As they were finishing, the barricades shifted violently. It was only a matter of time before they broke through.
He helped Granny Smith climb to the upper level before the young mare. Once they were all up there, he broke the ladder to prevent them from getting up. However, he had a plan.
Before he push climbed, he threw all the hay in the barn around. Then he did the same with the salt. Finally, he used all but one Molotov to coat the hay in alcohol.
Explosives weren't viable at the moment to use since fire seemed to be more permanent. Almost everything he used was in a standard Hunter's equipment pouch.
He didn't let the latter fall. He still needed it. He moved to a window on the upper level and went to the side closest to the Apple Family farmhouse. Occisar lied the broken latter across the rooves for a makeshift bridge.
"Anyone want to go first?" Occisar asked.
"Why don't you?" Applebloom responded with a glare. She thought that he was going to use them to test the stability of the latter bridge.
"I have to stay here. You two act as a bigger threat and I'll be the lesser. Their hunting instincts will make me their target." He then took out his remaining Molotov. "I'll burn these fuckers."
"That's the plan?!" Granny Smith yelled, surprised. "You'll die!"
"The plan is to become the lesser threat to get as many as I can in here to burn them. Then while the barn is on fire, I leave by the latter bridge or by getting on the ground and killing what remains of these hellhounds."
"Damn it... I'll go first." Granny Smith replied. "I'm already at my end, might as well make sure my grandbaby gets to see hers."
"Granny!" Applebloom yelled in shock.
"It's fine dear, I just want you to live your life to the fullest." Granny Smith began to walk across the latter slowly. It was clear that the latter bridge was stable. She looked hope knowing that her granddaughter would be safe if she made it across.
Only to be slammed in the side by a flying yellow mass.
"Shit!" Occisar yelled as he looked at where the mass went. He found it.
It was a giant yellow jacket with it's stinger piercing through the old mares neck. Her lifeless eyes showed that she didn't feel anything as her life was claimed.
"GRANNY SMITH!!! " Applebloom yelled as tears spilled from here eyes. She watched the yellow jacket struggle to get the corpse off it's stinger. It didn't get the chance as a bullet ripped through it's exoskeleton. A hard impact and a splatter of green and red blood confirmed the insects death.
"Damn it." Occisar yelled before he pushed his Hout Rifle into Applebloom's arms. She instinctively took it as well as the extra ammo Occisar. "Get across that bridge and shoot like hell!" He didn't give her time as he pushed her to the bridge.
She did as he said when she made it across. Of course he shot too, that way the Shucks' instincts would calculate that he was the lesser threat.
Oh how wrong they were, once she ran out of ammo, she ducked into a window and barricaded the door and window. All she could do after the adrenaline passed through her system was cry.
In the horror movies she saw, there were always two survivors to lean on each other. But she lost that ability when her grandmother and guardian died. And for the first time since the crisis began...
She was alone.
All she could see was her brothers room, in an eerie light before a golden glow over took it. The screeches and gunfire that followed sounded like music to her ears.
She knew that Occisar would give them everything they deserved.
