It’s a quiet night in Ponyville. In a small cottage on the edge of town lived a yellow mare who loved animals more than anything else. Several unique and rare creatures live there, but the greatest oddity of all is a tall creature with no fur on his large body.
You.
You are the one and only human who lives in Equestria. You’ve been here for a year now. Fluttershy was the one burdened with looking after you since she had room to spare and a variety of foods to eat. She’s been nothing but pleasant since you arrived. And you have to thank her every day for not just leaving you out on the street with nothing to your name.
On this night, your comfortable life was interrupted by something unexpected. You do not have a good night’s sleep. You toss and tussle, and find yourself waking up when the moon is full. You grunt and hoist yourself out of bed. You stumble down the corridor outside your room and find the bathroom. You switch on the light and glare at yourself in the mirror. Your eyes are haggard, and for some reason you feel lightheaded. The reason becomes evident as your right arm throbs in pain.
You hold it up to the mirror and finally see the obvious, there are small red marks up and down your arm. Dried rivers of blood have emerged from the circular wounds and dribbled down your arm, leaving red streaks in their wake.
“What the…”
You run the tap and wash away the refuse with a frown. Had one of Fluttershy’s critters snuck into your room and bit you? They were usually so well behaved, and Fluttershy wouldn’t stand for it if they did. The wounds aren’t terribly deep, but they do hurt and leave the entire limb feeling sore. The real concern is catching a disease from their mouth.
You don’t want to deal with this right now.
You open the cabinet and grab some medical supplies. You bandage over the bites and stick them down with tape to make sure that you don’t cause any more damage to the bed. You turn the light back off and head back to bed. This is tomorrow you’s problem now.
It started like any other chilly winter morning in Equestria. You unwrapped yourself from your bedsheets and trudged down the corridor into the main living room in Fluttershy’s small cottage. The yellow mare was already wide awake, preparing various meals for her animal friends.
Fluttershy turns back to you with a smile, “Good morning- Wah! What happened to your arm!” She flies over and pulls the offending arm up to her scrutinizing gaze. You peel off the tape and show off your war wounds to her.
“No idea. I just woke up last night and my arm had been chewed to hell and back.”
Her cyan eyes glimmered with unrestrained tears, “How could this have happened? Hm. Our bat friends don’t have teeth this large. Oh dear.” The marks came in pairs and were evenly spaced like a pair of fangs. They were rather large, as Fluttershy had pointed out.
“It kinda’ hurts. I don’t know what to do about it.”
“Are you sure y-you didn’t do it yourself?”
“My teeth aren’t that sharp Fluttershy, or that precise.”
“O-Oh! You’re right.”
“I might need to go see a doctor, I don’t feel so good.” You sit down on one of the pillows and clutch your aching head. The whole world feels like it had been turned on its side. Your throat is burning. Fluttershy is concerned, as she tends to be, but this time it feels just a little more serious. “Just finish your routine Shy, give me a minute to wake up.”
Fluttershy glides back to her job and quickly hands out various bowls of food to the critter who live with you. One of the birds lands on your shoulder and tilts its head curiously. You gently stroke its head with one of your fingers and sigh. As Fluttershy hurries past with a bowl full of fruit, something catches your eye.
A red, juicy apple.
You usher the bird back onto it’s perch and wander into the kitchen. Left on the counter are several pieces of fruit. You immediately lurch forwards and grab one of the apples. You bite into it and have to stop yourself from moaning like a weirdo. It’s so much better than any apple you’ve had before!
The juice is like the nectar of the gods, the flesh is ripe and flavourful, and even the skin is soft under the bite of your teeth. You grab another, and another, hoarding them in your arms like a new-born child. You hide behind the archway and continue to consume them at a pace that would normally worry you, but right now the only thing you can think about is how delicious they are.
You blink back to rationality a minute later, the destroyed corpses of your victims strewn out on the dining room table. There is apple-flesh and juice everywhere, there’s no way to clean this up before-
“O-Oh, what is this?”
Fluttershy hovers in the doorway with a concern look on her face. You feel like a kid who got caught with his hand in the candy jar, or apples in this case. You sit down on one of the tree-stump stools and try to regain your wits, “I’m sorry Fluttershy, I don’t know what came over me.”
She rests a sympathetic hoof on your shoulder and smiles, “Don’t worry. Who wouldn’t want to bite into a nice, red, juicy apple…” she trails off towards the end. A strange look comes over her, as if she didn’t expect that to come out of her own mouth. “Uhm. I have plenty of spares. It’s okay.”
Fluttershy left you to wallow in your illness while she finished her morning routine. You relocated yourself to a softer, more comfortable seat and watched the animals play and frolic. You felt like you were falling apart at the seams for some reason. The bite must had done something to you. These weren’t simple flu symptoms. Your nose twitches as everything is pulled into sudden focus. You can detect where Fluttershy is based on your sense of smell. She’s outside looking after the pigs. The intermingling scents of the beasts and creatures mix together into a wonderful tapestry.
You close your eyes, screwing them tight. You pull at the fabric between your pointed nails. Stronger and stronger. It overwhelms your senses. You feel like your brain is about to fry. This must be some kind of delusion, humans don’t have a sense of smell this powerful or precise. You fall down onto your hands and knees and crawl away from the rabbit that you were lavishing, you need to isolate yourself.
The trip back to your room is difficult. You slam the door shut with your foot and hoist yourself back up onto the bed. Now safe from the front room, you feel your overheated brain spooling down. Now the question remains – what kind of havoc is this bite playing on your mind right now.
The sun peeks through your shut eyelids and burns your eyes. You hiss under your breath and pull the curtains shut. Sensitivity to light too. You’re running the complete gauntlet of symptoms at the moment. You slip off into a restless slumber that lasts into the afternoon.
A thumping.
Bang, bang, bang.
The sun has set. You’re hungry, really hungry. But Fluttershy had left you to your rest once you went back to your room. You roll over onto your side and look out of the door. A flash of red catches your eye, you blink and it’s gone. “Fluttershy?” you croak. Your throat is parched and your vocal chords aren’t feeling great. You don’t know why you asked – Fluttershy doesn’t have red anywhere on her body.
You calm yourself with an assurance that it was simply one of the animals living with you. Whenever there was a suspicious noise or weird eye glaring at you through a hole in the wall – it was usually a mouse or rodent that Shy was looking after. You push yourself back up and hop off the bed. Not only have your symptoms not abated, they’ve gotten worse. You nearly tumble over onto the floor just from standing up on two legs.
You get down on your hands and knees and walk yourself out of the door. You don’t want to bludgeon yourself on the hard wood floors and ruin them with your blood. The cottage though, is unusually still. The birds and other small creatures are nowhere to be seen. You crawl into the dining room, “Shy?” you venture again. No response. You try again.
You climb onto one of the chairs and try to stabilize yourself. This has gotten freaky very fast. It’s never this quiet in the cottage, not even in the dead of night. You hand lands into a puddle of mystery liquid that nearly makes you leap out of the chair in fear. You look down and see a graveyard of apple cores that put your own hungry consumption from this morning look like nothing. Flesh and skin is everywhere. This is going to take an hour to clean up.
In fact, now that you look again – there’s rubbish on the ground around the table too, leading into the kitchen where the light of Fluttershy’s fridge is spilling outwards. That’s odd. Fluttershy is very neat and tidy. She wouldn’t leave the fridge open.
You manage to muster the balance needed to walk, slowly, into the kitchen. The fridge is, as you suspected, wide open. The fruit massacre is now more evident than ever. Not even the bananas or pears were spared. Who would commit such a crime? And how did they do it without Shy or anyone else stopping them?
A creak from behind you. The whining of a loose wooden floorboard. You spin on your heel. The mid-evening light casts the house into a deep orange glow. Purple bleeds into the sky, announcing the arrival of Luna’s beloved night. The creeping wrongness is growing by the second. Did something happen to the rest of the cottage’s residents while you were asleep?
Suddenly paranoid, you pace towards the front door and unbolt it. You peer out over the small bridge and onto the road that leads into the town, but still there is no sign of them. You lock it again and commit to a more thorough search of the premises. You check every room, every nook and cranny, every possible hiding place – but find nothing. It’s like they blinked out of existence while you were out.
All of this hard work is doing nothing to help you rest. The world blurs and warps. You hobble back into the living room like you just crapped yourself and collapse onto the couch. You clutch your aching head and groan. Something is wrong. Really wrong. Every nerve in your body is going haywire. Your skin feels like it’s on fire.
Bed. You need to go back to bed.
The rest of the trip is a complete mystery to you. One moment you’re thinking about how out of it you are, the next, you’re back in the bedroom. You flop down face first. If it weren’t for how shitty you feel you’d have fallen asleep on the spot. You would kill for a nice, juicy apple right now.
Intrusive thoughts aside, things only get stranger from there. You lose all feeling in your arms and legs, on and off like a flickering light. You twitch and worm your way back up to the pillows and into a more comfortable resting position, but it elicits a significant amount of panic inside of your mind. This is getting worse by the moment and you don’t know why. The throbbing pain isn’t a comfortable bed mate. But as you grow accustomed to it, the rhythmic contractions in your chest lull you into another deep slumber.
A leathery embrace from above.
You’re running. The forest is deep and pitch black. You don’t know where you are. You can feel something watching you, a pair of predatory eyes that lurk in the branches above. A black pit steals you footing. You tumble, feeling the wind rip through your hair. Deeper, deeper. You stomach rises into your chest.
You are falling.
You awaken with a gasp. The sensation of falling is too real. Your entire body jolts as a instinctual response attempts to stop your imaginary descend. The sudden movement of your muscles makes you wince in pain. “What the hell?” you groan. Your entire body is slathered in a thin layer of sweat. You take a moment to gather yourself and catch your breath. You haven’t had a nightmare like that in a long time.
Two ruby red eyes glare at you from above.
Your blink the sleep away, bringing the mysterious figure into proper focus. A light-yellow coat and flower pink hair. A pair of webbed wings, she hangs from the ceiling beam like a bat.
“…Fluttershy?”
She lets go and lands on your chest, knocking the wind from your lungs with a thump. Her ears have changed too, but it’s clearly your host. A forked tongue slips from between her lips like that of a snake. She giggles, “Good evening.” Her voice has a seductive purr that is entirely uncharacteristic versus the shy mare that you know.
“W-What happened to you?”
Fluttershy lays down on your chest, resting her weight and warmth against your shivering body. “A long time ago, Twilight accidentally changed me into this. She let me feel the emotions of my fruit bat friends.”
“Fruit bat?”
“This is the other me. The more confident me. The me who hunts during the night for feed to sate my thirst.”
“F-For blood? So you were the one who bit me!”
“No silly, we don’t drink blood. Fruit bats just love apples.”
You hold up your perforated arm, “So what is this supposed to be? Did you just do this for fun?”
“Just a little of my essence flowing through your veins, changing you from the inside out.” She giggles with menace, “And then… you’ll be all mine! You’ll live to serve me and only me!” You try to back away, but your body is paralyzed with fear and something else besides. This isn’t the kind, gentle Fluttershy that you know – this is every dark impulse, every desire dragged to the surface by something supernatural.
“Why?”
She clutches your dazed head between her hooves and looks down at you with her slit red eyes. “Hehehe. Because I’ve always loved you… I didn’t have the courage to tell you before, but now it doesn’t matter. We’ll be together forever and ever and ever and ever. You’ll be a good little thrall for me, a dedicated husband and mate.”
“Fluttershy, this isn’t you!”
She scowls, “Why? Because I’m taking what I want for once? Because I’m not rolling over and letting some hussy steal what’s rightfully mine?” In her anger, she rips away your shirt and throws it bedside. “This body, this warmth, it belongs to me!”
“Fluttershy, please!” You don’t know why you’re pleading with her, what you hope to achieve, but it has to be better than submitting to whatever she has planned for you at the moment.
“There’s nothing for you to worry about,” she assures you, “Just wait a little longer, and then you’ll be all mine – all those stupid thoughts of rebellion or fighting back will just disappear. Fufufu.”
Your paralysis does not protect you from the sensation of your body twisting itself in knots. You cry out as your chest tightens painfully and your arms and legs snap straight as a board. You can’t speak any more hopeless words now. Your mouth is full of cotton and your veins are filled with acid. Does she even know what she’s done? What the effect of this bite will be?
Fluttershy takes care as she begins to peel your clothes from your body using her mouth. She bits onto your shirt and drags it up and over your limp torso, removing it and throwing it onto the floor of the bedroom. She ducks down and unzips your pants, tugging on each leg to slide them down from around your hips like a dog with a new toy. Whatever is happening to your body has awaken your little friend to his full length, which Fluttershy finds endlessly amusing as she bats at it with her hooves.
A sledgehammer impact to your stomach forces your body into a violent spasm. You cough and hack and try to get the desperately needed air back into your lungs, but no matter how deep you try to breath you always seem to hit the limit of your constrained organs after just a moment.
How do you begin to describe the feeling?
Every atom of your body is in full revolt. You feel sick, euphoric. Everything hurts – but the pain is such that you wish it would continue for a little while longer. Morbid curiosity fills you, what is happening? Is your boy melting into the bed sheets? Are you becoming something else? Her red eyes leer over you, laser focused on capturing your end in fine detail.
You cry out as your body shrinks. You can feel your mass moving from your chest to your legs. Your torso thickens outwards but becomes narrower. The joints in your arms and legs cry out in pain as they shift position under your skin, it’s akin to having all of them dislocated at the same time.
You finally manage to will your body into movement, leaning up and off the surface of the mattress as the pressure on your back becomes too much to handle. You feel the skin rip and tear as a pair of nerve filled bundles shoot outwards like thrusted spears. A splash of blood fills your peripheral vision.
You twist and turn into an obscene shape. Corrupted blood runs through your veins. You cry out as you feel your skin rupture in so many places. Your fingers are paralyzed, losing their ability to move as they merge down into blunt hooves. Dark fur sprouts from your every pore and spreads like wild weeds. Sweat runs down from atop your head like a mountain river.
At the end of it all you lay there.
You take a moment to gather yourself. Desperately you clutch onto your own consciousness. You don’t know how long the process lasted – how long Fluttershy, or the demon that has possessed her, looked over you with that vicious smile on her muzzle. You can see everything, like it is still the middle of the day. Fluttershy’s form has come into clear focus, her normally feathery wings replaced with webbed appendages; much like the ones that now hang from your back.
“Do you like your new body, slave?”
“Slave?” You look down at your oddly long body, fur covered belly and stumpy little hooves. Fluttershy has somehow turned you into a pony, just by biting you. “Who said I was your slave?”
Her eyes glow, “I did.”

So rocked by the sound of your own voice rebelling against yourself, you don’t even notice as Fluttershy sits herself down on your stomach and begins to shuffle back and forth. The wetness of her own privates is evident, as you feel it seeping through your new fur.

This conversation needs to happen, and it needs to happen now. “Come on Shy, stop running away from me! I’m not mad!”
“B-But I hurt you, and bit you…”
Well, you can’t argue with that – but still, there’s no way that Fluttershy did something like that willingly. “Something’s wrong with you! I can see that!”
Fluttershy is shaking, “I didn’t want to hurt you. I’m so sorry! And now I turned you into a pony too!”
Your eyes are watering, if not for Fluttershy’s display of humility, it’s the sunlight streaming in through the living room window – it feels like somebody turned the brightness up without warning. You cover your eyes with a foreleg and try to gather your thoughts. “We can sort this all out Shy. But I think we should go see Twilight first – she’ll have some answers for us.”
“…Okay.”
The awkward questions about her admittance last night can wait for later.
Nine months fly by, Twilight had finally ridded Fluttershy of her fruit-bat-ism for good this time. Fluttershy had been incredibly apologetic about the whole ordeal. It had caused her emotions to go completely out of control and split off into another personality. You on the other hoof, are shit out of luck. Twilight cannot figure out how to change you back into a human. It should be expected really; her knowledge of otherwise mythical creatures is limited at best.
Being a bat-pony isn’t that bad. Although you aren’t really a traditional bat-pony - but for the sake of convenience you just pretend that you are. Most ponies just accept it. Managing your more vampiristic instincts is also rather simple. Sunglasses during the day to keep your eyes safe and a healthy supply of apples nearby to stop yourself chewing on the furniture like a hungry dog.
The real problem is that after your… encounter with Flutterbat – your little swimmers decided to do their duty and get her pregnant. It was initially lost in all the drama surrounding your transformation. You knew immediately what had happened when Fluttershy woke up and vomited into the toilet one morning.
There was a reckoning between the two of you. Fluttershy’s feelings were real, that was why she attacked you in the first place. And you weren’t going to leave her high and dry with a child to look after. The one night-stand turning into something more. You started sleeping in the same bed and trying to do things that normal couples do, all the while her midsection swelled larger and larger. Dread would occasionally seep in. A few months ago, you were just coasting by living off of her, now you needed to step up and give her a hoof around the cottage. Were you ready to be an adult now?
You even went and found yourself a job. Fluttershy made a living helping the residents of Ponyville with their own pets, but obviously she couldn’t always do so with her incoming delivery date. You foolishly believed at first that you’d be forcibly drafted in Luna’s night guard because of your species. That isn’t a thing, it turned out.
You were pulled away from work one day by an exhausted looking Rainbow Dash, “Hey dude! Shy’s going into labour!” Not yet comfortable with your wings, you drop everything (with your boss’ blessings) and gallop your pony butt all the way to the Ponyville hospital. By the time you finally reach the ward that Shy is being kept in, she’s already wailing due to the pain that she’s feeling.
You were there by her side for the entire process. And in the end, she gave birth to a beautiful foal. And boy, did that baby cry. She had Fluttershy’s lungs, that was for sure. When you looked into her eyes for the first time, you realized that you had a responsibility now. Forced onto you or not, you couldn’t leave Fluttershy behind to fend for herself. It took you a long time for you to tell her that you loved her back.
For now, it was time to learn how to change diapers.
“And that’s how your family line started!” Princess Twilight explained cheerfully, to a pair of very concerned looking Vampires. Twilight looked back down to the book she was engrossed in as her audience of two tried to process the tall tale they had just heard. Such foul language! Any dignitary would be struck down on the spot for such an offense.
“Wait, so you’re saying that our common ancestor was a monkey man?”
“And he slept with someone who wasn’t even a vampire in the first place?!”
“What?” Twilight asked, completely nonplussed, “I saw it myself. You were the ones who wanted to know.” She calmly turned another page with her magic.
“I thought we descended down from the tallest mountain in the world!” the first cried, a young guard-pony named Mars.
Equinox was quick to join in, “I heard that we were chosen by Princess Luna herself!”
Twilight giggled, “Nope! Sorry, it’s my fault. You know, the whole thing started over an argument about fruit bats.” Being asked about it had flooded her with a rush of nostalgia for the old days. Normally, Twilight would not be so crass as to describe it in such a way – but they had asked for the truth, and hundreds of years of rule had given her a much franker manner of speech.
“I-I don’t believe it, surely you’re trying to fool us. Forgive my words Princess.”
Twilight rolled her eyes. She expected denial from the pair – who had been badgering her endlessly about the origin of their tribe for weeks now. When she finally cracked and told the truth, of course they wouldn’t believe it.
“If you live as long as I do, you eventually realize that life is a series of absurd coincidences. Perhaps the origins of the alicorns, or the pegasi, or the unicorns are much the same. What are we to say? Afterwards, they had three foals, who went on to start large families of their own, the dominance of the fruit-bat gene was such that even now you retain those characteristics.”
She slammed the book shut and sighed. “And now, a few hundred years later, there are thousands of you – single hoofedly keeping every maker of darkened glass in the city open with your patronage.” To wit, the guards had specially made helmets with darkened visors to protect their eyes.
“If this gets out, our street cred is totally gone,” Equinox shuddered.
“Street cred?” Twilight scoffed incredulously.
“Shut up Ex,” Mars groaned, punching her follow guard in the shoulder.
“If you two have any more questions, I’d be happy to answer them!”
“No! No, we’re fine Princess. Thank you very much. We should get going,” Mars announced, the volume of her voice betraying her desperation to be anywhere but there. She wrapped her arm around Equinox’s neck and dragged him kicking and flailing out of the royal chambers with nary a word shared between them.
Twilight chuckled to herself, “Those were the days.”
