Sunset Shimmer is now ruling Equestria alongside with Starlight Glimmer. Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are also alicorns like them but are Protectors of Equestria. Spike is a royal ambassador to the dragons and royal advisor of Twilight. Pinkie Pie is an ambassador to the yaks.

Sunset Shimmer misses her friends from the other world even though she still writes to them with a journal Twilight has traded with them. However, she wants to meet them face-to-face but has so many royal duties to keep up on. Her friends, on the other hoof, has a lot going on that Sunset needs to catch up on.
