It made sense, Twilight was with Spike, Rainbow was with Tink, Applejack was with Fluttershy, it only seemed natural that Rarity and Pinkie would get together. All it took for it to happen was for Rarity to become a total anal slut. Though it seemed that a very open relationship worked for them and even created a weirdly romantic bond and dynamic between the two girls, it was actually slightly rare that they had sex with each other which didn't really bother them too much because sex wasn't the focus of their love. Of course as time went on, their love only grew and built until the day came when they both decided to get married, people were astonished that two such opposite people could get together and not only that but make it work perfectly when so many other "conventional" couples seemed to crash and burn so easily. One thing that came up through all of this that never seemed to go away was the idea of children, Applejack and Fluttershy had always been told by people that they should have children and now people were doing the same with Pinkie and Rarity. Obviously biological children weren't an option but there was such a thing as adoption, sperm donors and the fact that a horse or a well-endowed dog could impregnate them, Rainbow Dash had even gotten slightly pissed off at people suggesting that either she or Tink get themselves pregnant for the sake of children, which was a mistake because Rainbow had an extreme distaste for dicks and was not willing to share her wife in any capacity. Either way, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rarity didn't know how to feel about the concept of children, however they did think about and consider it, they had all the time in the world to have children, for now they simply enjoyed the feeling of being in love and having every available orifice on their bodies filled.
