Fluttershy was dusting the dining room inside the home of a successful electronic and technologic entrepreneur. As she did, she hummed to herself in a methodical manner.
Bandwidth, her master's name, lived alone, however. You wouldn't assume that by his home, though. It was no mansion, but you could tell it costed more than any home in Ponyville. Two stories, a guest bedroom, master bedroom, two bath, a dining room, a large living room that turned into a kitchen on one corner, and a pool in the back. Whatever company he did have over were from congratulation parties and business meetings. His dining room would only be used on holidays with his family over.
Fluttershy finished dusting the room and smiled at her work.
Even if he was successful he was alone and that bothered Fluttershy. He was a nice stallion. He always seemed to enjoy her company and always thanked her even if he pays her to do it. She, in turn, enjoyed being around him, always making sure to tend to her animals' needs first before coming over to work.
She thought about all of this as she moved to the kitchen and turned on the sink faucet, holding a sponge in her mouth as she held a plate between her hooves.
Some days, when she worked later than she had to, she would catch Bandwidth sitting idly in his office with a unhappy look on his face. She never wanted to ask, it wasn't her place after all. Instead, she would move to another room instead until he left his office for her to clean. Bandwidth was a charming unicorn, even if he clearly never meant it. Something about how he constantly cleaned his glass lenses and shared random knowledge with her when he was bored made her giggle to herself.
She giggled to herself now, just thinking about it.
"What are you thinking about, Flutters?" Bandwidth asked, by the name she didn't mind, from the couch.
"Just a... A joke my friend told me the other day." She smiled to herself.
"How does it go?"
She began to panicked before thinking up a joke she did hear once, "Did you hear about the bunny who stayed inside all day?"
Bandwidth chuckled already, "No."
"He was having a bad hare day."
After they shared laughs, she continued as Bandwidth used his unicorn magic to operate a large media screen fixed to his living room wall.
Once she finished cleaning the place, she came back to Bandwidth's office and knocked, "Master, I finished the cleaning."
A moment of silence passes.
"Master?"
Soon, the door opens with Bandwidth behind it, "Thank you, but you didn't have to stay so late." He gave her a bag of bits for payment.
Fluttershy smiled with a bashful blush, "It's not a problem. I didn't have anything else scheduled for today."
The two stared at each other silently. Bandwidth seemed like he was struggling to say something before he went for it, "Um, if you don't have anything else planned for tonight, do you want to stay over?" He started reasoning with her before she could even answer, "There's the guest bedroom if you like and I-"
"I don't mind." Her heart skipped a beat when he asked, but she did her best to keep herself under control, "I can stay over for the night."
"Okay," he smiled.
"I'll go back to my cottage and let my animals know. I don't want them to worry while I'm here."
"Of course."
"Mhm," they both shared an interested yet awkward silence before she turned and walked away.
Fluttershy made her way back to Bandwidth's home as the sun was setting. Her heart was calm now, but her thoughts ran with ideas of how the evening might go. She never thought he liked her, but she was no fool for how he was behaving. Even if she wasn't sure she felt the same, her heart certainly acted out of turn from her. However, it wouldn't hurt to give Bandwidth a chance.
She used the key to the door he gave her as his maid and stepped inside, her hooves clacking on the hardwood floor, "I'm back, Master."
"You don't have to call me Master, Flutters." Bandwidth said from the couch, watching a show on the screen.
"I'm not comfortable if I don't."
"That's alright. Sorry."
"No, you don't have to be." The room fell silent.
"Do you want to come over and sit by me?"
"I can," Fluttershy made her way over and sat down on the soft white couch. Before them, a massively wide screen sat inside the wall. Being a pegasus who could fly made it easier to clean such a ginormous thing. Bandwidth had explained to her how much it could do. From watching people play characters, to playing virtual games, all the way to solving problems on its own. It was a common device now to see in upper-class unicorn homes.
"Do you want to watch anything?" He asked.
"Like what?" She smiled softly.
He thought for a moment, not noticing Fluttershy nuzzling close to one of his forelegs. "What story books do you read?"
"I like fantasy books."
"Let's watch a fantasy movie, then."
"Movie?"
"It's like a book, but you can see the story in a moving picture."
"Okay."
Bandwidth sifted through many movies for her to choose from before they settled on one with monsters and heroes. Bandwidth eventually got hungry, so he made them popcorn before continuing the movie. The movie went on for a while before Fluttershy began yawning.
"Tired?" Bandwidth smiled.
"Mhm," she answered simply.
"You can go to bed, if you want. I can tell you how the movie went tomorrow."
"Okay, thanks." It takes Fluttershy a moment to get out of her drowsy state for a moment before she realizes she had been laying her head on his lap for who knows how long. Her cheeks burnt bright red as she avoided looking at him. "Good night, Master." She clamored up the stairs, pushing and closing the door to the guest bedroom before leaping face first into a pillow. "What is going on with you, Fluttershy. That was so stupid." She began to whimper in worry.
Then she began questioning herself differently. What was she getting to flustered around him for anyway? He's a stallion she cleans for. Nothing more... Right?
She groaned and whined into her pillow, "Maybe this wasn't a good idea." Why wasn't it? Her other side of conscience asked herself. He clearly likes her. Does she like him?
She took her face out of her pillow, laying on her side, and holding it close to her with her hooves. "Maybe... I don't know."
Author's Note
This was originally going to be a short clopfic, but as I was writing a part of me turned this into a romance... But don't worry, clop if coming.
