Belle's eyes slowly opened up, only to be blinded by the bright sun shining through the gap in the curtains covering the window. She groaned softly and rolled over, facing the empty side of the bed. She ran her hoof over the empty space softly, wishing somepony were there. Nopony has filled this space since.... Bright Mind!! she thought to herself, internally gasping.
The realization had hit her harder than a ton of rocks. She giggled and jumped out of bed, rushing to the bathroom at highspeed. How could she have forgotten that Bright Mind was coming today? She knew she had to get ready fast because his train could be here any moment, and he will be here in possibly less than an hour. Bell immediately hopped into the shower.
After years of working from home writing books and other stories, Bright Mind's investments made off of the money he had saved finally matured. He found that he had enough in interest to pursue a higher education. Seeing an opportunity to move up the scale and become something more than a decent author, he jumped at the opportunity immediately. He applied to Gertrude's University in Canterlot and got accepted pretty quickly. Only problem was that he lived with his girlfriend in a small house in Ponyville.
When Belle found out that he was hoping to go to school, she was worried. She was afraid that he would fall in love with someone else, someone closer. She was also afraid that she would never get to see him again. It took a lot of convincing, but Belle finally accepted that this was important to Bright Mind and she reluctantly let him go. They managed to keep in touch and stay very close through the letters they sent and received three times a week for a whole year.
Just a few days ago, when Belle checked the mail, she was ecstatic to see a letter from him telling her that he will be back in town on break for a whole week! As if she wasn't excited enough to hear from him.
This is going to be the greatest week ever! Belle Couture thought to herself as she wrapped up her shower. She pulled her towel off of the rack and dried herself off before wrapping it tightly around her waist. Belle wiped the the foggy mirror clean with her hoof and smiled at her reflection. It was only then that she realized that her mane was already done, and probably had been for a few minutes. Belle put her brush down and took in a deep breath through her nostrils. That's when she smelled it.
There was a strong, musky scent in the air, one that seemed to have overpowered the scent of her body wash. "That's weird," she thought aloud. "I could have sworn I washed up more thoroughly!" She followed her nose for a moment to try and track down where the scent was coming from. It was only for a moment, however, because she realized something. "You look adorable, hun!" He said to her, forcing another blush from her cheeks. He sat up and patted the empty spot next to him, beckoning Belle to come have a seat. She hurried over and sat right next to the welcoming stallion, only to be pulled into an unexpected, but very welcome embrace. He then plopped back down onto the couch with her in his hooves, this time on his side, holding the beautiful pegasus in a spooning position. "This is a cute little blanket, Belle. Did you make it yourself?" Bright asked, resting his head on the arm of the couch next to hers. Belle nodded as her eyelids got heavier.
"Mhmm... I made it so I can be warm and comfy at home. Jackets aren't particularly comfy when relaxing, and blankets are awkward unless you're trying to sleep," She said softly, followed by a cute little yawn.
"Well, aren't you a bright seamstress?" He says to her. Belle's eyelids fall shut, as she only nods in response. She can't remember last time she has been so comfortable, or last time she felt so loved or held this much. Her mind began to drift away, leaving her motionless in her coltfriend's hooves with nothing but her soft, slow breaths.
Belle didn't understand what happened at first, but it was by no means unpleasant. When she opened her eyes again, she realized that she had fallen asleep on the couch beside Bright Mind. She felt bad blowing Bright Mind off like that all day long. She really did. Especially on his first day home of his last time in Ponyville for possibly a whole other year! "Belle Couture, you make me so happy, and I love you more than anything else in this world. Love, I left because I wanted to become more with you. I love writing and I'm probably not going to stop even if I do get a higher end career, I do eventually want to settle down with you. I want to make you mine forever, and I want to make you happy. But all of that is so expensive, and I know I won't be able to do that on the job I have now. I want to provide for you." Her heart nearly melted at these words.
"Awwh~~ Bright Mind," She said, wrapping her hooves tightly around him. "Babe, you don't have to change anything for me. We don't need to live extravagantly to be happy. Bright, I'm happy with you. I love you, Bright Mind, and I'd prefer you to be broke here at home with me, than earning six figures without me. I like that you're an author because it means you can spend more time at home with me." Bright smiles and kisses her forehead lovingly.
"Maybe I should stay home. After all, time is passing us by, and we're only getting older," He said with a kiss on her lips. "I suppose this place isn't so bad, and neither is the job I already have," He stared lovingly into her eyes. "And neither is the life I have now." Belle felt her heart rate increase. "I love you, Belle."
"I-I love you, too," Belle said, losing herself in his soft, brown eyes. Belle has never felt closer to him than she did right now. For once, she didn't feel nervous or afraid, but instead, cared for. She felt loved and needed by the stallion that held her, and she didn't want to stop that feeling.
