Gabriela is a boring pony. She's a unicorn batpony and while the magic is nice, she always wanted to hang out and be friends with other ponies. But she feels she can't relate to most ponies because she's a batpony and she also feels she can't relate to other batponies well either because she has magic and not wings. She loved her unicorn mother, but she can't help but wonder what things would be like if she were like other batponies? Because of this isolationist attitude within her mind, she spends most of her time reading and sipping coffee with her cat, Pete.

Her two batpony friends Dusk Shine and Nightshade both work with her during the night shift at the Ponyville fruit processing plant on the southwest portion of town. Dusk Shine recently read the Friendship Journal by Twilight Sparkle and friends and that made her think of her friend Gabriela, the lonely night unicorn, some distance West of their cottage. So one fateful night when nopony in question worked, she decides to take matters into her own hooves!
