The Hourglassed Stranger
Destiny called, yours has changed!
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was a regular day somewhere in America, and it was a nice day to go to an arcade. Unfortunately, said arcade was packed with tons of people, ranging from hyperactive kids and young adolescent punks who had nowhere else to be to spend their time. This isn't the same situation for a man with a black undershirt, a poorly colored green jean jacket with splotches of blue everywhere from a bad dye job, Dark brown cargo pants with a black belt and gray studs dotted around the waistline, and Faded orange tennis shoes. His name was Leon Derrickson. A 19 year old Caucasian American with short Dark brown hair and cyan eyes. At this moment in time? He's trying to get through the bustling crowd of adults, young punks and hyperactive kids so he can get to his boss's office.
"For god's sake, I can only imagine how No Watch Ben kept his cool in a world without powers... *sigh* sometimes I kind of envy that peace he has, but I also envy wanting some power of my own, too." He mumbled to himself, finally reaching his boss's office, walking inside as he knew what time it was. 4:15 PM, his scheduled break time. His boss was a bit busy on the phone, but assumed Leon was leaving work for the day, and handed him his paycheck. 43 dollars and 25 cents, something he was mildly content with, as it was much more than what any general store would pay you. Leon walked out of the office, and quickly went out, breathing in the fresh and slightly salty air as he looked at the horizon, a huge beach nearby and he was feeling like he could do anything right now.
"Okay, what do I do first? I just got paid, and I still have money in my wallet... 20 bucks, to be exact, what do I do..." He pondered. Leon turned to his left to see a huge antique wooden booth next to him with pretty colors and ancient looking décor all over it. Inside was a metal mannequin-like puppet animatronic in the shape and model of a gypsy woman. Her animatronic eyes shone from the sun's light peering through the glass that kept her inside, and Leon read the big expressive words on the front of the booth.
"Fortuneteller from the Shadows of Myths? Never heard of this before, but maybe it's something new my boss wanted to try. Let's see..." Leon crouched down, reading a smaller metal plate with text engraved into it.
"Speak your desires, and pray from your heart, for fantasy is reality, if you're looking for a fresh start."
Needless to say, Leon wasn't that fond of how things have been for him lately. He lost his dad at a young age, barely got to know anything about him, and his mother is just grieving, not even past the 2nd stage yet, and being an only child hasn't made things easier. Leon figured he'd indulge in this machine's promise and think about how he'd use an Omnitrix of his own. Leon pulled his 20 dollar bill out of his wallet and inserted it into the machine's slot, watching it vanish as he grabbed what seemed to be a black grip handle, and began to squeeze it like he hadn't before. The gypsy woman in the booth whirred and beeped for a couple seconds and looked the man in the eye.
"Ve-ery good, Mr. Derrickson, for the payment is appreciated. Come back to me in 3 ho-ours and you will be compensated." The woman stated, glitching out a bit. Leon was a bit caught off guard for a moment, but remembered that some animatronics have facial recognition software, so no wonder she recognized him. He got up and quickly went back to his house, and grabbed his phone, making sure it was fully charged for the time being, and decided to kill some time relaxing at the beach.
After the time has passed, Leon checked his phone to see that 3 hours have passed, and walked back to the wooden booth, noting that the glass was now shattered, and he was probably going to be held accountable for destruction of private property, until he heard a loud BOOM! of thunder in the sky, which was a bit weird.
"Huh, that's weird, I thought there weren't any storms coming until next month." He said, checking his phone, noticing there was a live report going on in one of the TVs in the arcade.
"This is a catastrophic and unexpected event, folks! It would seem that some sort of weather anomaly is wiping out anything its lightning strikes. Whatever this is, everyone is to stay indoors, or get underground somewhere, it's not safe to be up on the surfa-"
The feed was lost by an abrupt jolt of what might've looked like purple lightning. Leon only recognized purple lightning from one thing, and he was really hoping this wasn't a part of the compensation he was apparently owed. He ran down the street, avoiding panicking people as he tried to get back home, though the storm seemed to drastically worsen as he got closer and closer, avoiding some extremely close calls with the lightning strikes. He was about to run inside until something huge and metallic struck him upside the back of his head, and he fell unconscious, hearing the muffled screams of several innocent people, as a tall, bulky and humanoid figure loomed over him. He couldn't control his panicking as he suddenly saw a flash of white light, and then everything went black.
Soon thereafter, Leon had suddenly woken up, yelping out for a moment as he tried to steady his breathing. He did not feel tough concrete or the asphalt of the road anymore, but he felt the smooth and soft dirt, grass and soil beneath him as he tried to steady himself. He looked around himself, seeing a bright sunny sky with huge mountains in the distance, and not a sign of modern civilization was in sight. He got up, and tried to calm down, until he felt an added form of weight on his right wrist. Pulling back the sleeve, he looked surprised, and very confused at the strange, but all too familiar device that was now present on his person, A Black and slightly dark gray gauntlet type device, minus the fingers or glove with 4 white tubes connecting to different sides of the watch, as in the center was a gray dial with 4 green notches on them, and also the intergalactic symbol of peace, a green hourglass was present, and it was shining bright.
"This... this can't be real.. is... i-is this the... Omnitrix? Maybe I should ask for more stuff from random strange animatronic fortune tellers more often... But where the hell am I, exactly?" Leon said, curious as to where exactly he was. He remembered the strange purple lightning storm, and something knocking him over the head, but he didn't know exactly what had transpired after that. Leon looked at his jean jacket, torn all to hell, just like his undershirt and his cargo pants. Leon looked around and could clearly tell something was familiar about all of this. He curiously pressed a green button and marveled as the core popped up. The usual green energy that had been so recognizable with the device suddenly changed to more of a Cyan color, probably to match the user's eye color and to prevent confusion... but confusion of what exactly?
"Ok, this is definitely new for me, but I know how this thing works, and this is practically the prototype Omnitrix. As long as I have the original 10, I should be fine." Leon stated, twisting the dial. Leon was expecting one of the original aliens, until he saw an icon of a lanky, but fairly robust root creature with spiky hair or prongs or horns or whatever protruding straight up from its head area, and Leon was immediately worried, but slightly intrigued by what this could've meant. He slowly pressed the core down, and in a flash of cyan light, Leon could feel himself changing. He felt his skin start to become stringy, but also compacted as his body twisted, tied and wrapped around itself in various ways, its caucasian color becoming more akin to that of a charred tree's blackened bark as fresh green vines wrapped around the blackened tendrils as his body increased in mass. Small red, orange, yellow and blue petals, thorns and glowing bulbs began to grow and protrude from the body as a few sections of the body itself opened up and ignited a type of fire that spread quickly through the inner workings of each body part. The head itself was something akin to a blackened and charcoal black face with bright burning cyan wisps as the creature's eyes. The creature's charred chest cavity opened up, and revealed that the Omnitrix had retreated inside of it, showing through an open circular hole, a white hourglass with gray detailing on the sides.
"SWAMPFIRE!!!!!!!!!!" The creature exclaimed as the cyan light died down.
...
"A magical disruption? Has anything like this happened before?!" Twilight exclaimed. The unicorn was starting to panic as the 5 ponies behind her were trying to keep her from having a meltdown. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Fluttershy. With them beside Twilight, these 6 made up the elements of Harmony, and in front of them was one huge white alicorn, known only as the Princess of the Sun, Celestia.
"I'm afraid so, my student. I'm tasking you and your friends to investigate what this disruption could be eluding to, all of Equestria could be in serious danger if something isn't done or figured out." Celestia stated somberly. The ponies quickly made their way out of the throne room as Celestia sighed.
...
Out in the field, the creature known as Swampfire was slowly lumbering his way in one direction, and constantly looking at itself as it familiarized itself with its newfound power.
"Out of all the aliens I could've gotten, I got the walking bogman that can shoot fire. Not a bad choice altogether, but I really would've preferred Heatblast. But now I have to wonder, why give ME the watch?! And where in the hell did I end up with this thing?!" The creature stated. He suddenly heard grunting and arguing, looking over to what looked like an abandoned mineshaft, and several crooks were hauling something out... and they looked kinda like ponies.
"Equine body types, walking on all fours, bushy tails... I'm in Equestria, aren't I? Well, there's worse places to end up by unconventional circumstances, like Mass Effect or Silent Hill... well, a crime is a crime, and I'm the one to stop it. It's Hero Time!!" Swampfire exclaimed, leaping into the air, fireballs forming in his hands as he yells out aggressively, falling towards the equine creatures ready to fight.
The ponies down below heard this and looked up, seeing the creature fall from the sky, ready to burn something or somepony. They scrambled to get away, leaving their treasures and their spoils behind as they quickly ran away. Swampfire was obviously a bit miffed, but at least he stopped a robbery or a heist of some sort. The plant alien climbed back up to the grassy plains and could only wonder where he was supposed to go, until he got an idea. Swampfire's body quickly started to unravel and burrow into the ground, only the grassy part of his head being visible as a flower begins to grow where Swampfire was originally standing.
"And now, I play the waiting game. Someone has to come by eventually, and when they do, I'll just pretend I'm the guardian of the mines, saying that anything that isn't theirs should not be taken. Leon, you're a genius!" Swampfire told himself, closing his eyes as he began to wait patiently.
Author's Note
This is definitely something new. I've been reading a bunch of Displaced stories lately, and I think this could be its own thing if I do it right.
Let me know if you have any questions, because this is going to be extremely different, and it's its own thing, not tied to my other stories.
