How The World Became Grey
Intro
The Darkend World
Mother. Yes, mother was soft, Her sweet honey scented hair glistening a bright blue in the morning rays beeming through the small window in my bedroom. Mothers soft voice and her gentle hug made the nightmares go away, just the bright world existed while in her arms. Heh, the bright world. I remember it all so well. The bright blue skys filled with fluffy white clouds that you could almost touch, And some could. The gentle breeze and the suns warm rays, shineing upon the green plants and smileing faces. The aroma of sweetely scented flowers wafted to my nose by that gentle breeze that only summer brings. All of these things, Precious, beautiful, distant memories from a child so innocent. Oh mother, mother... mother, how I miss those sweet apples you packed in my school bag, how I miss your gentle touch, your soft voice cloaked by your bright blue hair, black coat and sea green eyes. I only want at this moment your loveing embrace, to feel your light angelic Presence once again in my life. But I know all to well those moments of comfort are things of the past, long gone to the dust of our old house. Mother why is it that I can see you, Here, In front of me still. Yet you dont move? Yet your beautiful bright hair has now paled, Your eyes once the color of the sea have gone pale and the dark coat of the night sky you once had has holes where your bones stick through, the punctured flesh I stand before has clotted with blood long ago, now leaveing just the dark red blotches of crusty blood, flakeing away when touched. That coat, so dark, so beautiful has also paled besides the dark red that once stained your coat. Mother, your so thin, your soft hugs are now hard and unwelcoming, stiff.
"Mother... Its been so long, yet, so soon."
Kamio bent down beside her head. She had started to tear up, Yet, She would not cry. Not again, not here while they were still close. It was risky, but she had taken that risk. Why had she, Well Kamio was not too clear on why she had needed to come to her mother, why she had felt the need to gaze upon what once was. All it had always been was painful, why would it change now. She stood up and griped her mothers neck with her teeth, she started to drag her mother from the pile of debree that came from the roof that day the world had changed, changed into utter darkness. To what nightmares were made of, Everything dark had decided to move in, nothing the princesses could have done to change this outcome. It was far overdue, She heard that they died. In the royal palace, defending what was left of her subjects after what seemed like months of fighting. They grew weak, and the darkness broke forth and destroyed every living thing they could get there claws on. Was this really true, she couldnt say. It had come from a weary traveler, said he was from canterlot over the fire I had created in my shelter to cook what I had scavenged of food. He told me his story. Of how he escaped with a few others out the back doors of the canterlotion palace while the two sisters, princess celestia and luna fought to protect them with their last ounce of strength. He could not stop crying after he told his tale of loss and cowardness. The next day came all too soon, We parted. I never saw him again, and im sure if I do... It wont be in a form as plesent or friendly as that night.
"Im sorry but this is the best I can do for you right now".
Kamio had drug her mothers rotting body across the floor to the bed and carefully laid her on it. In her rightful place, Next to her husband.
"Mother, Father... I love you... Im home".
She turned away from the bed, from where her parents lay. Still, peacefull, yet so uneasy.
Chapter 1
The Darkened World
Kamio was down the stairs with the image of her parents still ingraded into her head. She would not forget the sight anytime soon. She at least took solace in the fact that her father had died almost instantly after the infection took place in his body, After all the infection didnt seem to thrive in sickly ponys very well or at least what she could of told. Kamio could remember her father sprinting in, a crazed look of fear and pain seemed to over take his eyes as he slamed the door shut and pushed the dining room table solidly against the door.
"Father? ... Father whats wrong, why are you-" Kamio was cut off in mid sentence. Scooped onto her fathers back as he ran up the stairs and tossed her hurridly into the room where my mother happened to be. Mother looked bewildered by my fathers appearance, her eyes questioning as to why I had been thrown into the room so forcefully. Father gave no reply to mothers questioning gaze as he hurried down the stairs twords the door he had barracaded only moments before. Everything seemed to be happening so fast around me. It was almost in slow motion as I ran to look down from the top of our stairway only to be met with the sight of my father pushing the tall bakers rack we had against the only large window downstairs. My mother was standing behind me and was frantically running back and fourth inbetween my room and theirs. It looked as though mother was dragging my dresser to their room, but my full attention was mostly on my father. I squinted, trying to look through the bakers rack but I was picked up by the nap of my neck before I could get a good look out that window. I could tell something bad was happening, It sounded uneasy and the threatening noises I heard and could not identify made everything worse. My mother threw me onto their bed and ran down stairs. "Mother!" I cried in confusion, wanting her to explain what had happened, Wanted her to run back up the stairs. The time passed slowly, yet so fast. I heard my parents voices down stairs, Then I heard the large thump against the front door and my mothers voice became high pitched. I hid under the blankets, Another huge thump against the door and I heard the screeching sound of the tables legs scrape against the floor. "Just go now, I cant hold the door forever".
My fathers voice sounded strained, There were growls and the thrashing sounds of a strong pony against the door. "I said GO" He yelled, With that my mother had dashed up the stairs and turned back, Horror on her face as the sound of the door being slammed completely open froze her in place. The sounds of my fathers desperate struggle sounded downstairs. "Mother" I started to cry, She broke from her trance and yelled for my father. There was no reply only yelling that I could not make out over large bangs. I was shaking under the covers of my parents bed. The door slammed shut, I peeked from under the blanket and saw that my mothers eyes were shut tight as she struggled to stay up holding the door. I only stared at her, listening to the bangs and muffled yelling of my father. As suddenly as it had started it stopped, My mothers eyes flew open over flowing with tears. She looked as though she had stopped breathing, We waited, Silently for what seemed like ages. Then the sound of a creaking step sent our hearts raceing. Mothers pupils seemed to have shrunk and she was driping with sweat. Another stair creaked and then another until we could hear breathing at the door. It sounded heavy and long, Mother opened the door enough to get a small glimpse then swung it open pulling my father into her arms. Mother was crying, I looked down at father, A pile of red liquid was slowly growing around my parents. Then I realised that my father had patches of his fur gone. I sat silently frozen in the spot where I hid. I didnt know what was going on. A step creaked, no one seemed to notice but me. I tried to speak, tried to make a sound yet nothing came out. Another step creaked, whatever it was seemed to be climbing faster and faster up the steps. Mother didnt notice, Without telling my body I ran straight for the door, past my parents and closed the door. I looked around frantic to find something to baracade the door with. My dresser was close but not close enough for me to push it against the door fast enough with my strength. I decided to try, I dashed to the dresser and started to push with all my body had to give, My mother was soon at my side. The dresser moved faster than I could push. I fell on my face, When I looked up I saw that my mother was holding the dresser against the door as the same banging sound started from earlyer, I was scared the door had bent in a bit, My father was not moveing. A large blood red puddle had surrounded my father on all sides, I looked again to my mother, Her black coat was wet with something, I could not tell what it was but I had a good idea.
"Kamio" A sweet voice sounded, My mothers voice. I looked up seeing her expression was sweet now. She didnt look scared at all, I didnt understand what was happening. Everything, Everything was going too fast, Everything was wrong. "My darling, Im sorry. I know you dont understand what is happening but I hope you will forgive me" She smiled at me and ran as fast as she could, snatching me into her arms. The door flew open and my eyes grew wide as I saw a stallion, Half eaten from his neck down to his flank burst threw the door. Mother threw me into the closet and almost closed the door all the way, spun around and kicked the support beam for the roof. It snapped. My mother smiled at me, That sweet loveing smile for the last time as the stallion leaped for her, mouth gaping open wider than it should of. Then it all went black. Rubble fell, the support beams caved in, Hay flew everywhere. When it had finally cleared enough to see I found that I was stuck in the closet. The small crack was barely open and it took me several tries before I could just barely squeeze through the gap. I could see the sky. I was standing on rubble and splintered wooden beams. The sounds of screaming and moans sounded from the city all around me, Yet all I noticed was how grey the sky was this day. How dull it had become. Then I remembered, What, More specifically 'who' I was standing on. I worked my way over the heap of wooden beams, rubble and hay that had engulfed my mother and the stallion only mere minutes ago. "Mother!" No one replied "Father! Mother!" Still no reply, Then I saw my mother crushed under a beam. She was not moving, Her eyes were still open. Bones were sticking through her skin and there was blood. So much bood. I nudged her, "Mother..." I curled beside her and began to weep as It hit me that I had just lost both of my parents in not even twenty minutes. All I could do was sit there and weep, helplessly and alone, All alone.
