Chapter 41: A pirate's farewell

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Jack wakes up groggy and hungover, with his head feeling like a herd of buffaloes are tap dancing on it. Spotting a bottle with a bit of rum inside it on the nightstand, he snatches it and chugs it down. The hangover fades away after several seconds, allowing him to actually sit up. Looking around at the mattress below, he finds his daughter's feather's all over the mattress and can't remember what happened last night and pats his wife's bare shoulder, asking, "Oi...Love, do you happen to remember what went down last night?"

Groaning and turning over to face her husband, Celestia grabs hold of his hair and pulls him back onto the bed, saying, "We had amazing, wild sex...twice...last night, and I think that it is time for rounds three and four."

Smiling as she rolls on top of him, Jack says, "Well, how can I say no to that?"

Grinning, she leans down to kiss him passionately and slips him inside her, saying, "You can't...and I wouldn't let you anyway. Summer is going to get a baby brother or sister soon."

Summer holds her head as she rolls over yet again as Elizabeth screeches inside her mind at her at the top of her capacity for what she got up to last night, shouting back, "SHUT UP ALREADY LIZZIE, MY HEAD FEELS LIKE A CANNON FIRED A CANNONBALL AT IT!"

Still furious at last night's events and narrowly avoiding being drawn into the ovum, Elizabeth stomps her right heel down again hard, screaming, "I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HOW STUPID YOU WERE LAST NIGHT. YOU WERE ALMOST KNOCKED UP BY YOUR OWN FATHER, AND I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU IF I WIND UP HAVING TO CALL HIM 'PAPA'! IF THAT SHOULD EVER HAPPEN, I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU WILL BE ON DIAPER DUTY UNTIL I AM THIRTEEN JUST TO SPITE YOU!!!"

Fed up with her yelling, she crams her into an outhouse for some relief and sighs blissfully when everything goes quiet in her mind. Memories from last night come flooding back, causing her to vividly remember how it felt when she gets the sudden urge to throw up. Forced to clamber out of bed on wobbly legs and with a killer headache, she hurries into the hall and then to the bathroom down the hall.

Celestia is showering when the door bursts open, startling her into covering herself and poking her head out from behind the curtain, shouting, "I'M BATHING HERE YOU ROTTEN BILGE RATS, DO YOU MIND!?"

Summer's hands fly to her ears at her mother's royal shouting, hissing in pain while saying, "Do you mind keeping it down, mother, my head is trying to kill me and I don't need the added noise."

Once she notices that it's her daughter, she giggles and lowers her voice, saying, "Oh...sorry honey, do you need to shower as well? You can join me, if you would like to."

When the pain recedes, she lowers her hands and receives a more desperate urge to puke, sending her dashing to the toilet and throwing the lid up before lowering her head in.

Celestia sighs at seeing her daughter throwing up, saying, "This is what happens when you drink too much rum, sweetie, it makes you really sick afterwards."

It takes a few minutes for Summer's dry heaving to end before she flushes the toilet, saying, "I'm sorry, mother, I just couldn't help it...this was our first real Hearth's Warming where everyone got together...I was just so happy to experience it." Letting out a nervous breath, she turns to her mother and says, "Do you mind if I smell?"

Smiling, she lets out a giggle and says, "I don't mind it at all, besides, I couldn't smell a wheel of Limburger cheese if you held it against my nose. When I drink the strong rum, it tends to knock my sense of smell out for at least twelve hours, can you smell anything at all?"

Cocking her head at hearing that, she sniffs the air and picks up the faint scent of her mother's soap, saying, "A little, but all I can pick up is a faint hint of that soap you love which smells like summer time."

Opening the curtain for her daughter as she grabs a towel from a cabinet, Celestia says, "I guess you figured out something else we have in common together, come on in and I will wash your back."

Slipping out of her nightgown, Summer gets into the shower with her mother, saying, "Thank you for not being too angry about me drinking more than you permitted last night, mother."

Closing the curtain, she prepares to lather up her daughter's back, saying, "If you were to drink too much rum, I am just glad that you were safe with family." Remembering all the feathers on their bed, she smiles and says, "You and your father must have had quite a tussle, because there were feathers all over the bed this morning. Did you beat your father, or did he beat you?"

Tensing up at the word tussle, she calms down once she realizes her mother is talking about a duel that happened...in a sense, saying, "Well, I lost the first few times, but I managed to win in the end by being the daughter of a legendary pirate."

Celestia rubs the soap into her daughter's coat with a smile, saying, "I'm so happy that you finally managed to beat your father in a duel, sweetheart. I am sure that your father is quite proud of you as well."

Months roll by as Summer attends the Grand Galloping Gala with Rarity, who she found out a few short months ago is pregnant with her father's foal. Her mother is surprisingly okay with it, because she just found out yesterday that she is pregnant again. As she looks at her friend's slightly noticeable bulge in her abdomen, she asks, "So are you going to tell me how you managed to wrangle my father into knocking you up? Did you have Applejack hogtie him after Pinkie snatched him, or did you have Fluttershy help you?"

Rarity fights back a bout of morning sickness and says, "A lady never reveals her secrets...however, all I can hint, is that it involved your mother and shackles."

A slew of scenarios run through her mind, causing her to look away, saying, "Wow Rarity, you sure handled that like a pirate, but I don't want to lose sleep over anything else my brain might imagine."

With a coy smile, she says, "Well, sometimes there are times which requires one to bend the societal etiquettes to get what they desire, such is the way of roguish damsels like us, right, dearie?"

Giggling, she nods her head and says, "Indeed there are, though we are no defenseless damsels, for we have thorns and know how to use them." She then spots her father making his way toward the band with a paper in his hand and Pintel and Ragetti beside him, asking, "What's he up to I wonder..."

Before the song begins, Jack makes his way to the center of the room and raises his arms into the air, saying, "OI, may I have your attention for a moment or two?" Once everyone turns to him, he continues, "I know that some of you may not like the shanty I bargained for the band to play and I don't really care, because I didn't pick it for you lot. I chose it to try to give my beloved daughter a night she will never forget" Turning his gaze to her, he bends his left arm and puts it behind his back and leans forward at the waist, asking, "Might I have this dance, my dear?"

As a steady beat starts playing, her hoof taps along to the beat while she curtsies and makes her way towards her father. When she offers him her hand in a ladylike manner, he takes it like a gentleman and kisses the top of it before the singing starts. When he tosses the hand he's holding away behind her, he snatches the other one and dances around in a circle with her facing the opposite direction.

Recognizing the song right away, she lets herself get swept away in the lively dance as she trots along and twirls with the beat when her father grabs her waist and lifts her up, then tosses her away from him. Fighting against the desire to briefly cry out, she keeps her wings closed as she is then caught and returned to the ground. When she is spun around by her new partner, she discovers that Barbossa is now dancing with her as her aunt Luna dances with her father. As she catches sight of the ship's crew each with a mare, she smiles and thinks, 'I'm glad that they have found someone, may their relationship last for years and years.'

Several seconds pass as she dances a lively jig with Uncle Barbossa, until he dips her backward and then spins her away from him into her father's waiting hand. When the song comes to an end, she and her father are holding hands and facing the applauding crowd before them as she joins him in a slight bow when he says, "Thank you all for the applause, as I only did this to make tonight a night my daughter will never forget as long as she lives."

A couple years later, somewhere upon the Celestial Sea

With Celestia asleep in the cabin with the twins, Summer stands upon the main topsail and spots smoke on the horizon. Focusing her attention on it, she brings up her spyglass and investigates it a bit before calling out, "There's burning wreckage Portside, captain!"

Turning his head and spotting the smoke, he adjusts the ship's bearing and heads towards it. Once they get near it, he spots a pirate flag floating in the water and wonders what happened when a rowboat lowers and heads towards the smoldering wreckage.

Gibbs makes his way onto the smoldering schooner and searches everyone for a survivor when he hears a cough come from down below, making him head below deck to find the source when he spots a soot-covered stallion at the foot of the stairs, calling out, "I've found a survivor, cap'n!"

As the stallion is brought to him, he spots the floating debris of another ship and lets him catch his breath before asking, "What happened to your ship, mate? Who attacked you."

Clearing his throat with a final cough, the stallion rises to his front hooves and says weakly, "Two of us were doing a bit of fishing and diving for treasure when we spotted an armada of at least twenty ships sailing into the Celestial Sea from the South. We paid them no mind as we didn't have our colors up, but when they opened fire and obliterated the Flying Wing, our ship was crippled as a ship even larger than ours sailed right next to us and boarded us. I went below to grab my sword as I heard the crew start to cry out in pain briefly, when I returned topside...I looked all around and saw that our entire crew was slaughtered mercilessly. One of them seized me and brought me to my knees before a finely dressed man, the man then looked down at me as if I was a rat upon his ocean. When he spoke with a strange accent I've never heard anywhere before, he told me, 'Do not fear me, boy, I always leave one man alive to tell the tale, so be sure to spread word of this attack. Be sure to get word to a pirate I know as Jack The Sparrow, and tell him that his days are numbered, that Capitan Salazar will hunt him down upon the Silent Mary and send his beloved Pearl to the bottom of the sea where it belongs'."

A shiver runs up his spine as Gibb's eyes go wide when Jack puts a hand on his shoulder, saying, "Calm yourself, mate, and keep this from Summer, and my wife and twins." Taking his compass into his hand, he raises it up and opens it, saying, "I knew this day was a long time coming." When it points North, he snaps it shut and puts it away, adding, "Make way to Portuga, we have forces to gather to return peace to Equestria's pirates...we have no choice but to sing it."

Putting his hand on his EITC coin with a gasp, Gibbs then asks, "A-Are ya sure that would be wise, cap'n?"

Turning his head to Gibbs, he nods solemnly and says in a low tone, "Aye, that, I am, mate. Fate has been following me in the shadows for many years, it is high time that I stop running and fight it."

Taking out his coin and turning it between his fingertips, he nods solemnly and says, "Aye cap'n...as you wish." then resigns himself to singing.

The video and rights are not mine, they belong to the one who made it!

Inside her cave, she feels magic take hold of the world as the song she prayed to never hear again starts to be sung, causing her eyes to go wide as she turns to her child and panics slightly, saying, "I-I don't understand...why is that song being sung now!"

The Tree House of Harmony fills the air with chiming, saying to its mother in a wordless voice, 'I do know, but I don't understand where these people came from...' then shows her images of numerous pirate ships being destroyed mercilessly which has been strangely hidden from her.

After watching the destruction of numerous ships, her eyes tear up as she hears what Jack said and turns to the one who might have the answers and calls for her presence, saying, "Goddess Calypso, I humbly request your council on a situation most dire!"

Answering her plea, Calypso chooses her human form and appears before the spirit, saying, "Aye, I have come to answer your call. What troubles you, oh child?"

Telling her what has happened, Equis takes a breath and then asks, "Do you know what caused things to go so wrong? How was this hidden from my magic and senses?"

Using her godly powers to view the world, she recognizes the souls that were taken by another god and frowns, saying, "You...do not belong here." then focuses on the lingering traces upon their souls and huffs in annoyance, saying, "I see now...so your souls were stolen by that deviant sister of mine. She always did have her mind set on taking witty Jack for herself..."

Breathing quickly, she asks anxiously, "What...what am I to do, how do I set things right?"

With a sigh, Calypso shakes her head, saying, "Unfortunately, there is nothing you nor I can do, as my thieving charlatan of a sister excels in manipulating fate." Sensing she is about to break down and cry, she places a finger under her chin and says, "But fear not, for I will not allow my baby sister to have her way. I shall have my love and child aid our witty Jack in the battle ahead."

Letting out a relieved sigh, she sags and says, "Thank you so much, but I don't understand how things came to be like this. Can you please explain?"

Nodding her head, she then walks a few steps away and pulls Equis along with her, saying, "It all started a few years before the captain of the Silent Mary was fooled into entering the Devil's Triangle..."

After telling his wife and daughters most of the story with a few truths held back, Jack and several other pirate ships band together just north of Seaquestria to face the threat of the pirate-hunting Captain Salazar.

With their twins being watched by Princess Twilight as she now rules over Canterlot, Celestia uses her magic to attack the ships sailing with the Spanish captain.

Hours later, with sunset three hours away, the last of the pirate hunters are sunk with the aid of Davy Jones and the kraken. With the other ships being sent away so that the Black Pearl can face the Silent Mary by herself, Jack looks around at all the burning ship wreckage as heavy smoke lies in the air around him. Catching glimpses of the Spaniard's ship, he gives orders for the mortars to begin firing upon the ship with whatever they can find, calling his crew to their stations, saying, "All hands to your posts, we have one last fight before us before peace is ours once again!"

Cheerful cheers ring out as the crew hurry to their positions when the mortar crew begins firing upon the enemy ship. Summer watches from the crow's nest as all the rounds miss by a narrow margin when a couple find their target and destroy one of the forward twin cannons, saying, "Serves you right for coming for my father, no one but I can defeat him."

Once they get within range of each other, they trade broadsides back and forth as Salazar watches his ships figurehead be destroyed, causing him to huff, saying, "It is about time you faced your destiny, cowardly Sparrow."

Trying to join Jack in the battle, Barbossa and Luna sail the Lunaria towards the smoke on the horizon to the south of them as Hector hears cannon fire in the distance and cries out, "Make all the sail we can, Jack cannot best the Silent Mary without our help!"

As the Black Pearl peppers the Silent Mary with burning cannonballs, small explosions are triggered inside the ship which result in screams as the sides crack and bulge outwards with smoke seeping through the large cracks. However, the Pearl receives numerous hits that causes a great deal of damage to her hull and takes out a few of her starboard cannons, leaving her at a disadvantage until a heavy explosion almost blows out the Silent Mary's starboard side.

Making their way through the smoke as fast as they can, Luna looks at the floating wreckage and dead crew with a sad sniff, saying, "What a terrible way to go..." her anger rises at how one can cause such misery and turns to her husband, saying, "This Captain Salazar is going to rue the day he inflicted such unspeakable things upon our fellow ponies!"

Finally catching two ships circling each other, Barbossa says, "Aye, he shall my dear." Identifying the Black Pearl, he points her out and says, "I see the two circling each other now, trading blows board and board!"

Silent Mary's mainmast snaps off and falls off the port side, then sinks into the sea below when he hears loud screams from below as the Black Pearl fires her cannons again. Turning his eyes to his crew on deck, he spots them all lying dead when something punches through his gut. Placing his hand to his waist to slow the bleeding, he hears the Mary's cannons fire for the last time and draws his sword, shouting, "COME FACE ME AS A MAN LITTLE SPARROW!"

Jack looks over to see the sun nearing sunset, saying, "Gibbs, how's the Pearl holding up?"

Gibbs races up the steps and says, "We're taking on water, cap'n, but the crew are working to patch the holes as we speak."

Nodding his head, he then turns to Gibbs, saying, "Bring us alongside her, I have a score to settle with her captain."

Summer and Celestia hurry to Jack's side as they prepare to board, with Summer saying, "We're ready to end things, father, just give the order."

Smiling at his daughter, he places his thumb and forefinger on her jaw, saying, "I know you are, love, but there is no one left on board to fight except for the captain. Remain behind and mind the ship as I face down the foolish Captain Salazar, savvy?"

Groaning with annoyance, Summer says, "Alright...but you better come back because Hearth's Warming is coming in a few weeks, so we can't be late to Gram's

Taking his leave after kissing his wife and daughter, he heads to the plank laid across the smoking Silent Mary as she lies much lower in the water than she should. When a few soldiers try to fight him, he swiftly defeats them with a quick death and makes his way to the back of the ship.

As Salazar watches Jack walk up the steps with a manic grin on his face, he says, "We finally meet face-to-face, Jack the Sparrow, prepare to die!" and then charges him.

Summer watches anxiously as her father blocks the other captain's strike and counters with his own, trading strikes, blocks, and parries back and forth. The two seem evenly matched until the other captain cuts her father across the belly, causing him to hold his hand over the wound as he goes on the offensive again.

The blood loss slowly eventually causes him to move a bit slower as he struggles to catch his breath, saying, "If I die...I will be taking you with me!" then swings at Jack madly.

Jack parries the sword and then uses a flourish to disarm the captain, swiftly ending their fight and running his sword through his chest, saying softly to his ear, "Alas, mate, it is in vain as I shall watch the life fade from your eyes before returning to my ship and ensuring my family gets home safely and enjoy a life of peace."

Wrapping his arm around Jack's back, coughing up blood and saying with his dying breath, "What peace can...there be...for......pirates..." then slips a dagger from his sleeve and stabs Jack in the side before collapsing back to the ship's deck.

Still holding his slashed belly, he watches the life leave Captain Salazar's eyes as he said he would before heading back to his ship as the Silent Mary starts to sink lower into the sea. Climbing back up the plank, it is then brought back onboard as he makes his way over to his first mate, seeing the Lunaria closing the distance slowly due to the change in the wind and says, "Gibbs, I have a task for you, though you may not like it."

Eager to hear it, Gibbs nods his head, saying, "Aye, what errand might that be, cap'n?"

Jack pulls him close and lowers his voice to a whisper, saying, "I want you and the men to abandon ship, mate. The Pearl has earned a good sendoff, as has her captain..." Taking another breath to steele himself, he continues, "Use whatever means necessary to knock my wife and daughter out, then pry the name off the back of the ship and fold up her flag."

Shocked to hear his task, tears fall from Gibb's eyes as he asks, "But...c-cap'n, we can save you and the ship, there's no need to..." when Jack's hand covers his mouth and silences him.

Continuing on, he says, "We must honor the code, mate...the captain goes down with the ship."

Nodding his head as he fights back his sobs, he sniffs and asks, "What else are my orders, cap'n?"

Telling him the rest of what he wants him to do, he watches Gibbs make his way down below, and heads to his wife and daughter. Taking his wife's cheek in his left hand and his daughter's cheek in his right hand, he kisses them both on the lips, saying, "I love you both with all my heart, the moments we have shared together will always be in our hearts and minds." Turning to his wife, he says, "Raise the twins well and spoil them whenever the chance allows." then faces his daughter and says, "Live your life without fear and regret, love, for it's a pirate's life for the both of us."

Not liking how he said that, Summer then leans into her father's touch, asking, "Why does it feel like you're..." but doesn't get the chance to finish as she feels something strike the back of her head, knocking her unconscious.

Jack watches the lifeboats get lowered into the water as his wife is the first to be carried down, lowering his own daughter down to the deck on her back and hovers over her with tears in his eyes, pulling out his compass and opening it up one last time to slip a folded note to his daughter into the lid and closing it. Taking it off, he then places it inside her clothing and whispers to her ear, "When you wake...you shall be captain."

When Pintel and Ragetti come to take her to the longboat, he takes off his hat and sets it upon her head, saying, "Don't let her lose that hat or I will make you regret it."

Gingerly picking her up and taking her to the boat, they watch as the name plaque is lowered down along with the flag. Bowing their heads to their captain, they both say, "Farewell, Captain Sparrow, we shall miss you something terrible."

He watches his daughter be lowered into the longboat as the last crewman to leave the ship, pulling a bottle of rum out and taking a swig before returning it. When Gibbs comes before him, he hands him a letter, saying, "Give this to them after I and the Pearl are gone."

Taking the letter and putting it away, he bows his head, saying, "Aye, cap'n. We will honor your memory fondly each year." Making his way to the longboat as he starts to sob, he climbs down the side of the ship and takes a seat, saying, "What are ya waiting for, you gobs, let's get some distance from here!"

As the boat heads away from the ship, he draws his sword and makes his way to each rope holding the sails tied up and cuts them to free the sails. Once the last rope is cut, he makes his way into his cabin and pulls a burning lantern off a hook. Taking his leave of his cabin, he heads up the stairs where oil wasn't poured and grabs the grey fuse he had the crew snake through the ship and to the scuttle charges below deck.

When he puts the fuse to the flame, he watches it burn away rapidly and lets it fall to the deck before tossing the lantern to the lower deck, saying, "Let's both go out with a bang, shall we?" then draws his pistol and cocks it back.

Barbossa and the Lunaria watch as the Silent Mary disappears under the surface while fire engulfs the Black Pearl's ship when explosions inside blow holes into the bottom of the ship as Luna takes off towards the ship to save her sister and brother-in-law, saying, "Fly fast! She's not long for this world with those holes in her hull!"

Luna is close to reaching the ship when she watches Jack shackle himself to the ship's wheel and then raise his pistol to his head, shouting, "DON'T DO IT, LET ME SAVE YOU!"

Seeing his sister-in-law a few wingflaps away from being on him, he smiles at her sadly, saying, "Sorry love...but you all shall remember this as the last day...of Captain Jack Sparrow." then pulls the trigger.

Able to hear his wife's mournful scream from a few miles away, he watches as the burning Black Pearl slips below the waves quickly. With tears in his eyes at realizing that Jack went down with his ship, he takes his hat off and bows his head, saying, "Your loss shall be remembered by us all, Sparrow."

Barely able to remain in the air due to her severe grief, she flaps her way weakly towards the closest longboat and sobs, incoherently asking, "M-My sister...and...niece...are gone..."

Turning to the sobbing Luna with tears streaming from his own eyes, Gibbs calls out, "They are alright, they are right here with you in your grief...as are we all."

Turning her face to look at Gibbs, she sees her sister and wife both bound and wailing out at the captain's death. The sight brings her momentary joy as she rushes to them and holds them to her chest, saying, "I thought I lost you both!"

Staring at the spot her father's ship sank below the waves with her father, Summer cries out in pain at losing her father, screaming, "PAPA! COME BACK PAPA!!"

Unable to stay standing due to her grief, Equis wipes tears from her eyes at not being allowed to do anything to save Jack and looks up at Calypso and asks, "Is there any way to bring him back?"

Holding Jack's soul in her palm, she smiles softly and chuckles, saying, "Life has come to an end for witty Jack Sparrow...but his soul endures from your gift of immortality." Turning her gaze to Equis, she asks, "What would you have me do with it now?"

Her somber mood lifts at hearing that and wipes her sad tears away as tears of happiness slip from her eyes instead, saying, "Oh, I have a few ideas about what to do with it..."
