the beginning or is it the end?
Monster. That was the only word people described him as. He had many other names over the years, friend, victim, king, prisoner, savor, Devil, Discord, and on one strange day, Mr. Nom Noms. But what defined him the most was monster.
He was currently standing on a hill overlooking the town where six of his latest genetic projects where living through some clever manipulating. He has invested many years making sure these " projects" reach maturity so he can harvest them and start on the next one. As such the cycle repeats, and has for many years, standing back from his "projects" he watches them go on to be leaders or great scholars, their mutation helping them achieve greatly and prosper their race, but as always he took them. It might be soon, it might be on their deathbed, when ever he deemed the trait to be fully manifested. The poor thing is never heard from again. But later on creatures all across the world are born with such a trait. It is funny really, he's been at it for so long, they assume it to be natural and call it evolution. Thus was his ties with the world and only a few know the truth, even less are alive to tell.
Quietly, he noticed a pink pony bouncing her way up the hill towards him. He quietly cursed in his native tongue and scurried away his scales silently sliding past each other as their camelon pattern splayed over then masking him from view. For you see, his chosen form and the one he preferred was that of a lictor, it chameleon scales let him easily sneak past the unassuming ponies and the versatile limb choice let get around almost too easily, of course he had made a few adjustments, flexing his tail reflexly. It was with this he " collected" samples and completed his important job to the hive mind. The experimenting to optimize the DNA configuration for new forms.
" Hello? I thought I sensed a new pony coming to town but you felt different like you been here before but I never met you, which is weird cause I meet all the ponies that come but I never met you so where are you ? come on out it just your bestest friend Pinky to welcome you "
"Ah yes this test subject named " Pinky", the test of synapse mixed with the greenskin logic defiance genes. This one, was one of the special six with the most promising genetic material. It was a dear of Celestia to send them all to one town, that makes them so much easier to check up on them. I should get going Pinkie is one of the only few who might be able to find me" he thought before slinking off towards the town leaving a confuse Pinky sitting there.
" I know I felt somepony, I just have to find out who this mysterious some pony is. "
Meet Twilight Sparkle, she is known to most as Celestia's personal student, and the element of magic. She is know to her friends as a loyal yet sometimes neurotic friend. And to the group in the treehouse right now she was a concerned citizen claiming a carnivores creature crept creeply in to her comfortable cottage and committed crimes. The cops conspired that the mare was the only c word she didn't use " crazy".
She was swearing that last night a creature was lurking outside her house. She knew she saw it, the way the moonlight reflected, except it reflected twice. Almost as if something was trying to imitate the terrain. She swore it was big, almost the size of Princess Celestia herself. She swore it had limbs coming out of it's back like wings yet was not used for flying, almost like a praying mantis in form. She swore she heard the sound of many sharp teeth sliding pass one another. But most of all she swore she heard a voice, the voice of something long dead and yet living.
Yet the cops where skeptical, something about staying up all night with " H.P. Foalcraft" and just seeing things. So afterwards she had a nice picnic except, for Pinkie who kept saying shes looking for a new pony in town. Everypony just left it for Pinkie just being random like always.
They played games, sang songs and for once had a normal afternoon for the most part. So Twilight that night for save of anything else to put wrote about her whole day and how good friends can help you get your mind out of the strange things and show you the important things in life. As she was walking down the stairs to spike who was busy cooking dinner for the two of them.
She idly glanced out the window and saw it. Plastered to the sky by the smoke coming from a home was the outline of the beast, a massive creature, huge for lack of a better term, talons were on it's upper arms, while on it's lower a set of claws, not unlike the ones on Spike. But unlike his, these wicked talons had only one purpose, cutting flesh. His tail, by Celestia the tail ,it was like that of a scorpion except it ended in a point so sharp it could probably cut thru the layers in a spell. But the worse image of all was the eyes. They looked right back at her, and in that moment, she was sure it knew she saw it. Then in lept into the night.
Dear princess Celestia, Today I thought I saw something while looking out my window last night. It looked like something I saw in the " foalcraft" book you sent me. I tried to tell the authorities but they assumed I was crazy. Maybe their right . well that me and the girls had a great picnic except Pinky. She keep looking for somepony. Meh she's random. Some times friends teach you what's really important in life and what to look over.

2 start of something blunderful
Twilight was a bookish mare. One that would rather spend all night reading and studying rather then sleeping. Right now she was doing neither. Right now she was running. Right now she was chasing some Eldric abomination through
" You do realize I have you right where I want you," she called out, " You can only attack from one direction so I can easily counter."
Then from behind her came her reply " I kNoW" Twilight quickly turned only catching shadows.
" Come out you can't hide forever"
" AcTuAlLy I CaN aNd DoNe So. But if the great Twilight wants to show my self then I shall. I never turn down a final request" he said as he reviled him self calmly leaning against the wall at the entrance. " You really think little old you could take me on? Then I was right you really don't know who I am."
" I'll have you know I have a team coming who in a few seconds will defeat and probably petrify you."
" Oh please" he said finally stand up to his full height." I literally invented that one, let's cut the chatter and fin-" a bolt of magic shot past him inches to the left. " fine then." as he rushed towards him Twilight was panicking. She was trying every spell she knew every combo she knew, and this beast came dodging like he knew what was coming. Left, left .right ,up ,down, no this wasn't fighting it was a dance to him. God she was over her head, the only person she knew who fought like that was Pinky but this creature was over twice the size! Then in an instant he changed. The playful light dance morphed into a savage charge catching Twilight shocked as the only thing she could think of, he brothers shield. The creature ran into it momentarily disoriented. Twilight huffed as she tried to catch her breath from the failed attack.
" how , what ,when " she barely managed to stammer out.
" YERMGAL that's far enough" the voice of a savior rang out over Ponyville. A golden aura surrounded Twilight as she felt her injures heal before her eyes.
"It will never stop to amaze me how you figure that."
"Um Princess who is this and why are you arresting him?"
" This ,Twilight, is a long story, and the reason he's not in custody ,is even I can't hold him for long."
" What but your the Princess, you have practiced for thousands of years , and mastered the arcane arts, you invented the elements of harmony, how can you not beat the creature."
"Really Celly you still tell them that?"
"Oh no," she chuckled " I can easily beat him. In a fair fight..."
" Which is why I never fight one!" he said from the top of the alleyway seemingly disappearing into the night.
" Princess?" Twilight said trying to register what the Tartarus just happened.
" That my dear pupil was Yermgal, and he is a long story." she said looking relived. " god it's been a long time since I seen him."
"what is he ? it ?"
" I do not know and his tale is a long and disturbing one, one which Luna and I have a part in."
"But if been in Equestria for that long how come I never heard of him?"
"Please, let's go back to the library, I don't want the presses wondering what the Princess was doing in a dark alley with her student"
" One last thing tell spike that a keyhole is a terrible place to hear a story from. Would you like to join us ?"
Spike opened the basement door he was hiding looking like a caught child and plotted in. " How did you know I was there?"

3 the legend begins with a bang
It was a dark yet clear night in Equis, the perfect night for star gazing ,or in case of one small earth ponie family huddling to keep warm under their tarp, the perfect night to hunt for meteorites. Why you might ask? First with tensions running high between the three races, the chancelor has decided they should start stockpileling weapons in case hostiles broke out. Secondly star metal from those commets was worth a small fortune in these tough times. Lastly Starless Void and mama Cosmos had a family business to up hold. Papa Void was a a grey earth pony with rapidly grating white mane. Mama Cosmos was a stubborn sort of pony, it's not always a earth ponie gets born into a family of unicorns, her parents at risk of scandal among the press, put her up for adoption before she was taken in by Voids father, Polaris. She was of the lighter unicorn build than your standard earth ponie stock, but if you told her that she would knock the stars out as proof of her heritage. She was a light green coat with a light blue mane with white spots in it. Together they where called a cute couple by many ponies, but that changed a few years ago. You would now have to call them a cute family. The older sister Celestia, a white coated, pink maned filly. Much to her sisters amusement, even thou see was 2 years older, she didn't have her cutie mark yet. While Luna was showing hers off as much as possible. Luna was a light blue coated mare, not much darker then her mothers, with blue hair. Luna had gotten her cutie mark a year before when she was awoken one night to a meteor shower, as each one feel a shiver ran down her back . Now every time A comet would come down her " woony sense" would kick it. The bigger the object the sooner it would be picked up. Her cutie mark, a moon with some stars falling from was the results of that wonderful night.
So you might ask why was this family of earth ponies huddling under a tarp at the edge of Pegastopolas, closer to the wild lands than their home town?

So after much star charting and plotting they found the object in question and the " woona sense" did not lie. It was huge and coming in fast. It was so huge they had to higher extra help to help bring it back. Said help was currently sitting on there cloud beds, light snores echoed off the walls of the valley. "life will be good after this haul," Void thought , " I'll be able to send the girls to a private university, then we can buy a house by the sea and spend the rest of our days sipping lemonade on the prench beach." he dreamed happy thoughts as he rolled closer to his loving wife and passed into blissfully sleep.
Captain Ventirs was a very mad man. He normally had a habit of plan yelling when he felt bad, but today he has a reason to be mad. After he was order to mind you pick up a group of colonists from a now ork world. He was now orders to take these "planet scum" to a new world that has appeared from a now dead warp storm. The green skins dreaded Waggggh has a few useful offshoots aside from general looting and promotions. It was to be no different from any other colony plan. Land, kill the natives, set up shop, get a cushy job. On the upside this world didn't look like a death world. When did it go so wrong.
It started 3 days ago one of passages went into labor, while this was normally a joyous occasion so the crew was gathered together. one final push and he waited to hear the tell tale scream, wait was that clicking?
Three things happened at once, first the women looked up eyes slitted with a spike tipped tongue hissing at the captain. Secondly, the colonists jumped on the unsuspecting guards men quickly throwing them in to a savage brawl, lastly the alarms sounded as a voice blared over the box speaker.
" the astropath is down, I repeat the astropath is down"
That was three days ago, three days of endless floating, three days of being hunted in the halls, 72 hours of being hunted by those faceless abominations. They had the bridge but the engines where under stealer control. With out the engines they were drifting out of control pass what ever possible rescuers that could have saved them. Unless they get those back they where a hulk, a dying hulk.
Ventris looked around at the remains he used to call his brigade. The ten left have see unnumbered horrors and were the veteran core of his force. They where tooled up with all the ammo and where going to attempt to redraft the engines. There was a habitable world close and all they needed was a quarter turn and they would live. The nice planet below with sparkling seas and soaring peaks.
Earth bound
It was under these soaring peaks the caravan was traveling, trudging forward as they left the borders of the known world. The wagon currently being pulled by Void pulling a sleeping wife and two questioning fillies where currently debating the meaning of the universe.
" but Daaaaaaad we can't go to bed without a bed time story and Mama went to bed without telling us one."
" sweet heavens above that all it was, fine I'll tell one my father told me when I wouldn't go to bed."
" wait you where a foal too!" Luna exclaimed.
" yes Luna" he said with a chuckle " I was a foal too, now do you want this story or not?"
" yes yes yes" exclaimed Luna as she jumped next to her sister and cuddled under the family blanket.
" okay this is the tale of the old ones, once a long long time ago, ponies didn't rule this land. We were beasts just like the birds or the bees. We did not think just was. But then they landed and when they came they saw us. They gave us life and sentience. It was they who gave the unicorn her horn and the pegasus there wings. Then they, after being tired of much fighting taught us the basis of harmony. We enjoyed a golden age of happiness with the old ones. But they had to leave, where no one knows. But it is said they will come back and spread there light one more time." he finished.
After about five mins a weak question came out from the cart, " daddy do you think the old ones will come agin?" asked a sleepy Celestia
"yes my dear I really do," he replied "now get back to sleep, I'll see you in the morning". after some moments a light snore came from the cart. He looked up at the soon to be meteor and wondered " what was the old ones running from?"
An old datafile from the pre-emperors age said a very true quote, and that was " war, war never changes" , and that was very true. Humans have always hunt and been hunted, no mater if it was lions and tigers, to modern days, heretics and alien space monsters. It true war ne-----

It seamed to go in slow motion, the guards men rushed forward guns blazing. One, two, three of those grubs fell to hot lances of the guards men. The last one turned to strike only to be bull rushed up against the bulk head. One bolt and it joined it's brood mates.
" good job now get that bulk head open yesterday!"
*Crunch*
Interruping his thought a massive crunching sound echoed through the ship.
" no idea sir." ryan replied hastily.
*thunk*
A slow clap was heard in the background... Ventus turned to see the trice dammed, Broodlord standing there clapping it's mockery of hands.
"First, if I knew you could talk, insulting you would be more fun. Second, we were not trying to kill you. Your now standing in the biggest bullet know to man."

The Broodlord charged and the guardsman did the only thing that came naturally. He threw his gun.
"warp drive activated" the ships automatic voice stated.
The captain calmly sat down and simply sat on the floor weapons sheathed and face calm.
" You finally come to see that you situation is hopeless, there is no escape from the great devourer,"
" No I just know math, one warp drives are fast, plus two humans can only survive three Gs multiplied by the factor of we are facing a planet, equals..."
The brood lord sputtered weakly" splat?"

That's when the ship hit the upper atmosphere. The panals started flaking of filling the sky with light as they burned up. Creatures all over Equis were woken up as the biggest comet know to date plunged into the sky, covering the moon and blinding out the stars. Ponies started screaming in the streets, many assuming judgement was upon them. but one simple faimly knew the truth. Sitting at what Luna's "wunna" sense said was safe, mountain looking at the falling behemont realizing with a smile that he's gonna need a bigger cart.
The earth seemed to buckle and heave as the ground flowed like liquid under the force of a Titan sized ship at terminal velocity hitting the planets crust in a large valley. Around the world earthquakes toppled tall structures , tidal waves toppled the sea ponies city of Atlantis, huge winds racked the Pegasus's capital Olympia, cracks were formed in the spires of unicorn's crystal spires. But worse of all the bow of the ship kept sinking as the rest of the ship pushing it down till at the deepest point at the bow it nudged a rock. This rock as as whole was not very important except at that point it started rolling. It rolled down the hall into long forgotten crypt. It rolled past rows of silent skeletons standing motionless. It rolled past swarms of scarabs. It rolled past the loyal body guards of the king. It rolled into the feet of a long forgotten relic nudging it ever so slightly. The wagon left ruts in the fallen ash. The only feature in this barren wasteland, trees long burnt up marked where forests used to be and shallow ditches full of mud where remains of rivers. To an outside observer it seemed a barren hell, but to small fillies it was a winter wonderland.
"Luna to moon base do you copy?"
" This is moon base what your position?"
" Area seems clear, going to advance to that hill for recon"
Luna stalked forward keeping a eye out for her target, crouching while moving forward she rounded the low hill.
" Caution we detect a movement from behind you"

Queen Celestia quickly ran away as the tyrant Luna counted to ten as was tradition, before chasing her highness as is tradition.
Void switched from watching his foals to his loving wife pulling the wagon beside him, "Your right, they are cute when they don't bother us".
" Now dear they can't be that bad"
" I know I'm just worried about them, traveling around is no way to raise a pair of young girls, they have no friends."
" You father traveled around with you didn't he? Your fine arn't you"
" I guess your right though, I'm stuck with most right mare in Equestria, you know it's annoying when your right about everything", giving a small shove.

And so Twilight , we continued towards the metal mountain of mystery as Luna so lovingly dubbed it.
As we approached the wreck, the smells of oil and charred metal hung in the air, the scorched earth crunched beneath tired hooves, the air seem to hang as if nature itself was grieving, they finally stopped to rest at the base of the gouge in the earth.
" Alright girls this ones the biggest yet, but basic rules still apply, always have your buddy and stay within shouting distance. Don't go into the wreck. If you see gems bring back to the cart. Anything rare bring to me and I'll set it aside. And girls only ONE souvenir, now be back at sun set and don't forget your kits this time.
Three ,two, one, and boom their off the filled leaving a slightly smoking trail as they dashed to look for the coolest things for mom. After much searching Celestia was toying with a small rectangular object with a hole at one end it has a small mouth hole and was expertly crafted, " this might work, but it's Gota be better than Luna's. She thinks she soooooo much better, but this should show her, wait where is she? LUNA?..."
You are Luna queen of the searching, lord of loot, king of the coffers, and at this moment lost. You saw your sister digging thou the fallen scraps from the ship while you were totally not spying.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.... The light the cursed light o god this hurts.
Celestia was dumbfounded, 1st her sister left here to find the a better gift. 2nd she did find something better. 3rd Luna's gift just punched a hole in that fragment easier than Celestia could knock over Luna's block towers. And it was right in front of her. O god, why was Luna behind that thing.
Luna ran sheepishly out from behind the beast towards the camp as fast as her legs could carry her. Running into her mothers arms screaming and babbling only stopping in her mothers arms.
" it it it was chasing me all over the place, and it was a scary monster."
" it's okay dear, it's gone now."
"no its not it's over there trying to kill Celly."
" now now," she said while turning to look where Luna was pointing " there nothing, O Sweet Celestia , get out of there Now. Don't you dare die , I will be so pissed If you die. Void get your flank over there and save your daughter. "

Whatever it was charged as soon as Luna dashed out from behind it. It's five and a half limbs propelled it slowly at me but it was picking up speed fast. I quickly rolled to the side panicking. What the he'll was this and how did Luna piss it off this bad?
It smashed into a tree, spraying red ichor all over the ash laden ground. It raised it's mangled head sniffing the air trying to find where in the world was she. If she could only sneak past him she might just make it. Thank aboves, this thing was blind and deaf. I might just be able to....
" Don't worry Celestia were coming!" her idiot dad yelled and swingin a spear as he charged over the hill. Both Celestia and the beast turned to face her dad. " Now wheres this scary monster Luna was talking about? I don't see any monster....."
" HOLY SHIT that's alive"
Tia quickly ran to her quivering dad, " dad it's blind so be quiet", she whispered. " okay got it, are you alright?"
" I'm fine dad"
"Would you look at that thing, what is it?"
" No idea I found it chasing Luna out of a hole."
" that crazy dad, it has blades for hands!!!!"
" Only plan we got, lets do it. Three ,...Two,... One.... Go" Celestia just stood in shock as her dad ran in front of the tree started yelling, " Hey you!" The beast turned toward Void, " That right, look at me, come here."
