Her Heart Was Far Too Cold

Better that I start at the beginning. No better place to begin our session, eh?

So, there was this mare. Her name was Red Rose, and she was an Earth pony. When I first met her, she was the kindest pony I'd ever met. We met at a small gathering in Las Pegasus and... Well, we kinda hooked up after the party. After that, we started seeing each other semi-frequently at restaurants all around the city, acting as any new couple would. Kissing, cuddling, the usual shi- sorry, stuff. I'm trying to work on that. She was such a dream that, on a couple of our dates, I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't asleep. But she wasn't a dream.

She was an absolute nightmare.

After the first couple of months, a couple of my friends slowly stopped talking to me, one by one. I thought it was just them losing interest in me, so I didn't pay it any mind. But then, all of a sudden, everyone stopped talking to me. I asked them what was going on, but they would just give me disgusted looks and quickly trot away. The only one that was there for me was her. Always her.

One day, I was lying in bed, moping at the loss of my closest friends, when she came in and sat on the edge of my bed. "What's going on?" she asked me. Tch... what was going on, indeed... I told her that everyone had stopped talking to me and started avoiding me like I was infected with a disease or something. She just smiled softly, the kind somepony flashed when they had something to hide, and told me not to worry about it. I quickly noticed it and pointed it out to her, saying something along the lines of, "What's that smile supposed to mean?" She shook it off and told me not to worry about it, just crawling into bed with me and holding me. What happened next was...

Dear Celestia, it still feels so fresh in my mind...

The next day, my friend- well, ex-friend, I guess- trotted up to me and rammed me with his head, saying that I was the most disgusting stallion he'd ever laid eyes on, and that he couldn't even call me a pony anymore. With the most baffled look I could give, I asked what in Equestria he was talking about, but he just kept going on and on, calling me a monster and accusing me of things I hadn't even done, like kicking elderly ponies and a ton of other shit. Sorry for swearing, but I felt that was kinda needed.

He was causing such a scene that other ponies had gathered around and started shouting at me, some of which had been my closest friends, telling me to go kill myself and rid the planet of my filth. It got to the point where I started bawling my eyes out, whining for them to stop, but they just kept on going, accusing me of more and more, until I was a crying heap in the middle of the road. After a while, a guard came by and told them to beat it, so they finally dispersed, but not before each one took their turn to spit on me and/or call me a monster one last time. The guard helped me to my hooves and escorted me home, leaving once he was sure that I was safe.

I didn't leave my home for a whole month after that. simply electing to stay in bed, cry, barely eat, cry some more, go to sleep and wake up in the middle of the night crying. Basically, I cried a ton. I got a couple of my "friends" pounding on my door one day, telling me to open up and accusing me of things I- you guessed it- hadn't done. Finally I snapped and, using my magic, ripped the door off of it's hinges. I demanded that they explain themselves and tell me who in Tartarus they heard these things from. After a bit of silence, one of them trotted up to me and, with the most pissed off face I'd ever seen, told me that my girlfriend told them "all of the shit you do." My eyes were so wide that they sobered up and asked me if I was alright, but I just shooed them out the doorway and put the door back in place. I heard one of them scoff and waited before I was sure that they'd left.

After that, I immediately went to her house and barged in, demanding she explain herself. She just gave me a confused, sweet smile, and asked me what I was talking about. I told her what my old friends had told me, saying that she was the cause of all of my misery over the past month. She stood up, feigning ignorance and saying that she never said anything to my friends. In fact, she didn't know any of my friends. I was so pissed off that I charged up my magic and shot a bolt at her hooves, but she didn't even move. She simply smiled and stepped over it, saying, "Well, it's not like you barging in here and threatening me is going to change anything. Their minds are set, and there's nothing you can do about it." Neither of us noticed the hole in the floor had caught fire as we continued to fight.

Finally, after a few minutes of yelling from both of us, I noticed an ember fly in front of my face and watched it as it flew towards the corner and set a curtain ablaze. I panicked and, seeing that the whole house was up in flames, ran out the front door. I turned back to see the front of the house, with fire blazing through the door and out the windows, looking as if it was alive and burning to death. Rose ran down the stairs, but a falling support beam stopped her in her tracks. She looked out of the door towards me, yelling for me to help her. I was just about to run inside, when something in my mind stopped me for a moment.

She's not worth saving.

I don't know what came over me to make me think that, but by the time I was able to shake it from my head, I was too late. Her coat was aflame, and she was screaming, rolling on the ground as she burned alive. It was about that time that some fireponies came to put out the fire, also going inside to pull her out. She was barely conscious as she looked up at me with hate in her eyes and mouthed "You did this." I simply stared in horror as she was taken away to the hospital.

I chose not to visit her in the hospital that day, or the next. By the time I could work up the nerve to see her, I was too late. She had passed the same day as the fire, which was blamed on a gas stove that was left on. I feel like I should've been devastated by the news, but some sick part of me was relieved that she was gone. The month of misery she caused by spreading lies about me was finally over, and I could go about my life.

But, of course, there was still my "friends". They figured out pretty quickly that I had visited her the same day that the fire happened. One by one, they came to my house, barging in and calling me "murderer", "monster" and other variations. I made them all leave as they came, and after a week of them harassing me, I was done with it. I packed up my things and left the city, choosing to come here to Ponyville, where I hope I can start a new life. Celestia, I hope...
