Flurry Heart is the young Princess of the Crystal Empire, not reaching a position like her mother or aunts, but a Princess nonetheless. But there was something she never understood, how can she be born if she had two fathers? Though she looks like a mare, acted like a mare, and was addressed as a mare, Princess Cadance is actually a stallion. Shining Armor was of course fully aware of this, and didn't care, he still loved Cadance. But as good and pure as their love was, this still didn't enter her question. Eventually, she went to Princess Celestia about it, who seemed to not only know the answer, but is a little more than willing to share this.
