Steps on the grass are heard, a girl stops walking and sits on the ground.
"Sorry, I'm late. Aria's car broke and I had to take her to work, but as I promised, here I am."
"Um, from where may I begin? Oh, last Saturday we went to the beach. You would have loved it, the sun was warm, but no too much, and the sand was so soft, like icing sugar. The rainbooms were there too and to be honest, they aren't so bad after all."
"We sure had fun, but I can't lie, I've missed you there, and I'm pretty sure Aria felt the same. Being on the beach brought back old memories from Equestria, from when were just you, Aria, and me against the world. It's hard to believe that we arrived in this world just four years ago, we did so many things that Equestria seems more like a dream or a distant memory."
"You may be asking about Aria's job. Do you remember that she was working as a delivery girl at that pizzeria close to home? Well, she isn't anymore, not after saying to her boss to fuck off. Now she works in the mall, at the same store as Twilight."
"Aria misses you as much as me, I guess, but you know her, she will never admit it. I know we aren't related at all, but I always saw you as my big sister, and I think she felt the same."
"I know that I made you angry a lot of times with my silliness and that I put us in a bunch of problems, but I always thought that you liked me at least a little bit, after all, I am not just a stupid slut as you many times said I was, right? I always tried to make you proud of me, but I'm so clumsy, and instead, I almost always made you angry. Sorry."
She wipes the tears from her eyes and resumes her talk.
"Hearing you say that I was useless, that if wasn't for you, I probably would have died years ago always hurt me, but not more than not being able to hear you again. I would give anything to hear you yelling and calling me an idiot again, but it won't happen, you will never come back."
"I asked Aria if she wanna come with me next time, but she said that you are gone, and spending time with you only proves my dumbness. I know this sounds mean, but I know that she is suffering too. Sometimes I catch her at your room's door and see tears in her eyes, and when she sees me, she says things like 'this stupid girl left and still owes me 20 bucks', but I know she misses you too, after all, you were the closest thing that we had from a family"
"Please, don't be mad at her for taking so long to come here, she isn't ready yet to face that you won't come back home, and I guess she thinks that being here makes everything real, that if she just waits, you will come home someday."
"Sunset asked if she can visit you and if she can bring princess Twilight with her, you mind if they come? I know we were enemies, but as I said, they aren't so bad. Maybe under other circumstances, you even could befriend her, so I said yes and as soon princess Twilight finds a gap in her schedule, they will come to visit you."
She stays in silence for some moments, just hearing the leaves of a close tree moving on the wind, tears blurry her vision while she remembers the events from two weeks ago.
"For the last time, Sonata, you can't have a pet, you barely can take care of yourself."
"But Dagi..."
"No means no, Sonata."
"Ari, help!"
"Adagio is right, you can't have a pet, you probably would let that thing die."
Before Sonata could try to argue, she felt her jacket being pulled and she was tossed back, over Aria and time seems to slow down. She saw Adagio spinning and pushing her away from the edge of the sidewalk a fraction of a second before a car came into her peripheral vision and run over Adagio.
She and Aria fall to the ground with a thud sound.
"Fuck Sonata, what are you..."
The phrase died on Aria's mouth, she looked forward and saw Adagio motionless on the ground.
"Adagio."
Aria stood up and ran in Adagio's direction, and so Sonata did the same.
"Adagio, wake, please, say something." she said with a horrified look on her face "Sonata, call 911, your idiot!"
Less than ten minutes later the paramedics came but were too late, there's nothing they could do, she was dead already when they arrived.
"Why? Why you did this? That car was supposed to crash me, so why you pushed me out the way? Why you didn't jump and just let my fate happen?"
"I... I miss you so much that can't even say that I hate you. How can I live my life without you, without my friend, my big sister? I'm not smart or strong as you, so how can I take care of myself? Even back in Equestria, was always you that take care of me for as long as I can remember, you are... was my friend, my sister, my mother, so without you, I'm lost in the darkness."
The silence lingers for some minutes until she fell ready to talk again.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Next week we will have the SAT, so if I can achieve a note good enough, I'll be able to apply to the college, and who knows, maybe I could even have a degree."
"Well, it's getting late, my turn on the animal shelter starts in less than half-hour, so I'm better gonna go. See you later."
She stood up and taps her jeans to remove the eventual dirt.
"I really wish you were here, so maybe someday you would look at me proud of the person I became, but I guess that I have to do my best and wait until the day we meet again."
"Bye, Dagi, I love you."
