The Silver Lining

Previous Chapter

It had been roughly thirty-four hours and Moxi was agitated and bitchy. Her system was screaming for Booz and drugs and Ire wouldn't let her go get more. Ire had to clean up after Moxi whenever the latter puked, Moxi also had gotten violent, Ire struggled to keep Moxi from killing herself or her for that matter. The others would drop in...cautiously.

Moxi also got real jittery and had a couple of minor seizures. As the week dragged on, Moxi got more desperate. She would try to sneak out at night and acquire more of her painkillers and more Booz; each time Ire caught her.

Moxi would spend hours telling Ire she wasn't worth the trouble, on one occasion Moxi tried to drop a plugged-in mane dryer into a bathtub filled with water. Ire was getting scared, the latter had to install locks on the flatware drawers and kitchen cabinets. It got so bad that Stormlight and Moonlight Spell had to stay at the house to keep tabs on Moxi. Moxi had gotten so violent that she gave her three protectors and saviors a hefty pounding. When the dawn came, Moxi saw Ire and the others in a state that cued Moxi that there was a brawl. For the First time, Moxi was her normal cheerful self like she had been five years ago. Moxi, the poor thing remembered everything that had gone down and she sat sullen and depressed. She had caused a ton of damage, Ire was glaring through a black eye and at the same time had a slight hint of a smirk.

Ire could tell that the worst was behind them and Moxi was seeming like a level-headed mare.

"Morning Moxi, how are ya?"

"Doing okay...I guess, I just beat up three ponies who tried and managed to succeed in keeping me alive, I have no idea why though. It pains me to know I caused your injuries, all I got to say is; Thanks to you guys for not leaving me....where are Windy and Writer?"

"They had business to tend to for a few days. You should rest, your system hasn't fully recovered yet."

A smirking Moxi retorted, "Yes mother", Ire rolled her eyes and flicked up a magazine, and chased Moxi to her room. The others showed up, Writer and Windy were wondering if they should tell Moxi where they'd been. The news would be put in print by morning so they called a meeting. Writer pulled Moxi into a hug and told her that he had some news. Even in the aftermath, Writer has not fully recovered from the crime he committed, leaving signs that he is the perpetrator.
Writer Rhyme told Moxi that her brother and Graphite, and a slight cackle as he gave her a warm hug and told her, “Don't worry. They will never hurt you again”.

Moxi pulled back and didn't want to ask what he meant, her gut was telling her that justice was served somehow. After a few more weeks, she prepared to enter a skate race. Moxi was afraid to race Sunny, that young mare was fast and had four good legs. When the race came, a week before, Ire and the others had a business trip to tend to. So Moxi was alone warming up for the race.

"It's an honor to race with you Moxi" Sunny said as she stretched. Moxi nervously nodded as made sure her leg would stay secure.

The Race

Moxi lined up with the other skaters, the horn sounded, and they were off. The skaters had to complete ten laps and the outside of the oval had a fifteen-degree bank. On lap three Moxi tripped and watched the other skaters pull ahead. "Mares and Gentlecolts, it looks like Moxi is throwing in the towel." The announcer rattled on and Moxi felt like giving up.

Ire and the others made it back from their trip early and the others went and sat down. Ire told the others she had something to tend. Moxi had slowed her speed, she was in no way gonna win the event. As Moxi was about to roll off the track a familiar voice was heard from the speakers. "Moxi, I didn't pay one thousand one hundred forty bits to see ya quit! Give it your best moron!" Moxi glared daggers at the announcer's block, she saw Ire smirking at her. Somewhere close to the track wall she heard Moonlight Spell screaming something. Finding confidence in knowing she had friends there cheering her on she hit the wooden planked track with the speed that Rainbow Dash would say was awesome.

Moonlight and Stormlight were making a mess of their popcorn and while Writer wasn't looking, Ire stole a hooful of popcorn from him. Sunny and Moxi were neck to neck and Moxi slowed and fell in behind Sunny. On the last lap and just thirty feet from the finish line, Moxi pulled alongside Sunny and pulled ahead, and covered the distance in just four seconds.

Once Moxi had her winner's pictures taken, a surprise bonus lap was called and Moxi was at the starting line and she was joined by, Spitfire, Rainbow Dash, Lightning Dust, and Soarin; the horn was blown and the five racers were off. Moxi had left Soarin in her dust and she peeled past Lightning Dust and Spitfire. She and Rainbow Dash were neck and neck, Dash began to use her wings for stability. Moxi barely beat Rainbow Dash but just a thousandth of a second.

Moxi rolled over and hugged her friends, Ire tried to aft like she didn't like the gesture but her smirk said otherwise. Moxi finally felt like she was worth something and was wanted. For kicks, she gave Ire a boop on her nose and smirking realized that Stormlight blushed slightly and Writer had a slightly jealous look on his face. Moonlight Spell was clueless through it all. Moxi and her friends went to get coffee, and Moxi decided to try to get her old job if it were even possible.
