It was a quiet and peaceful night in Ponyville, and everyone slept at home after the first day of the Summer Sun Celebration. Virtually all the inhabitants were gathered inside the town hall, waiting for the speech that Princess Celestia had to give before her subjects before rising the sun in the sky.
But the speech never happened...
To everyone’s dismay, the evil mare announced that she had kidnapped the princess to prevent her from making the sun appear, and thus plunge Equestria into an eternal night. After this, and laughing maniacally, Nightmare Moon disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

After a hard night entering the Everfree forest, which bordered the town, dodging the traps and solving the puzzles that Nightmare Moon put in their way, Twilight Sparkle and her new friends managed to reach the Castle of the Two Sisters; where they were supposed to find some powerful artifacts. Those relics, known as the Elements of Harmony, could be used to defeat the cruel Nightmare Moon and free Princess Celestia.
Little did they know, the evil mare was waiting for them in that same castle to try to stop them, since she was very aware of the power of those artifacts. However, she was unable to prevent the elements from activating in the presence of Twilight and her friends - and so they used that power to exorcise Nightmare Moon's evil presence and free Celestia from her captivity.
When performing that exorcism, Twilight and her companions discovered that Nightmare Moon was none other than Luna, Celestia's little sister, who had been consumed by jealousy towards her sibling because of some dark power. Now free of the curse, little Luna could not help but throw herself into the arms of her sister in a rueful but happy cry.
After all that, and with the sun already on its usual path, Ponyville continued with the party, this time with an additional motive: The return of Princess Luna after a thousand years of absence.
It must be said that that celebration wouldn’t have been possible without those six brave mares and the Elements of Harmony; and from then on those Elements would remain linked to them. But is it possible that before these were activated, they were already exerting some kind of influence on their now carriers? How was it possible that in just a few hours, our six friends showed such a strong connection when they barely met their current leader? Maybe they were somehow predestined to get together?
What did seem clear was that this friendship strengthened the power of the Elements, and in turn, the Elements channeled their power into their bearers.
However, sometimes the Elements could interact with their bearers in truly mysterious ways...
