Sporax
Sporax
Load Full StoryTwo creature sat underneath a tree; cuddled together in the dusk suns rays. The creatures were a dragon and a changeling. The dragons name was Spike and the changeling was Thorax. They had just spent the day together; which they rarely got to do. Thorax had his responsibility's to his kingdom. And, Spike had his in Canterlot and Ponyville. Thorax moved into a more comfortable position as he rested against the dragon. Spike smiled and held him closer; a soft purr came from him. He enjoyed these small moments they would share. They hardly had time for them so he cherished every precious second. He began to think back to the time they had first met. In the caverns underneath the ice and snow covered ground of the crystal empire. He chuckled a little at how scared he was when he first spotted Thorax. How he ran into danger rather than away. Only to be saved by said changeling who he thought was there to cause harm.
He remembered that whole day. How he tried to help him make friends in the empire. Only to turn his back on him just hours later; all to just keep his title which now meant nothing to him. He thought back to more cheerful memories he had spent with the changeling. From small get togethers' to exhausting meetings, to something as serious as royal meetings, and to humble walks they would take. He gazed at the sleeping form of Thorax. How he was pressed up against him; his body warmed by his. How he used his wing as a form of blanket; while his upper arm and chest was used as a pillow. He was happy being with him, being with his mate. He remembered how happy Thorax was when he asked him to be his mate. How they felt when they shared their first night togethers. The minor backlash the two faced from most ponies.
He remembered all of it; magazines that called the two rather unbecoming names. How they were public about their relationship. They weren't public in fact they didn't care who knew about them. But, then again the press was always looking for something to stir up. How they were taunted in public by those who saw them as lesser creatures. Taunted, simply because they loved each other. It mainly the stuck up elites of Canterlot that did this to them. While others paid no mind to their relationship and saw them for what they were. Kind creatures that just simply wanted to live their lives together. As the thoughts ran through his mind. Spike gazed at Thorax once again; he looked over his resting form. Taking in every small detail almost like this would be the last time he would see his beloved.
As he did his sight came to rest on a faded bite mark just on the back of Thorax's neck. The mark brought back an action he wished he could take back. It was the night they had first spent together; he had gotten a little out of control. And, in the heat of the moment he had bit Thorax. It wasn't hard but he still drew blood. In a book he read he had heard about how sometimes dragons would bite their mate during the act. But, that was something he never wanted to do. Thorax had forgiven him; he understood the dangers of having a dragon as a mate. But, Spike had yet to forgive himself.
Spike gently kissed the area where he had bit his love. It caused to release a small sigh as the small act of love entered his body. A smile stretched across Spikes face before he looked at the the last portion of the sun. watching as he slowly sank below the horizon. While the moon slowly took it's place. He knew Thorax was still asleep and he had no intention on waking him anytime soon. So as gentle as he could; he removed himself from his hold and began to move him onto his back. It took him a little bit; but eventually he got his mate into a good position on his back. He then began walking back to Ponyville.
As he walked through the streets of town; he would always see a mixture of reactions. He would sometimes see mares look at him and Thorax. They would smile and wave at them; while he nodded back. He sometimes saw looks of jealousy in their eyes. He noticed that a lot whenever they would spend time together. Over the years that he had grown; he had developed a little bit of muscle and had lost most of his hatchling fat. He even noticed it in some stallions as well. On the occasion he saw the disgusted glares of those who didn't understand how they felt. Didn't understand what it meant to be in an actual loving relationship. He could hear their whispers thanks to his hearing.
The words, “Disgusting,” “Fagots,” “Homo's,” “Queer,” “Overgrown lizard,” “Ugly bug.” he heard them all and he didn't care. Why? Cause they don't matter to him. The stallions that called them queers'. Jealous cause they don't know the meaning of loving another. Mare's who called them fagots', homos' and disgusting. Just like the stallions. While the one that called them lizard and bug. That was mostly Neighsay and they could care less about the old prick. Nothing mattered to him except his mate. Eventually he reached the castle and gently opened and closed the door. He sighed pleasantly as the cold air of the castle touched his scales.
A voice called out to him, “Spike?”
Spike looked around and eventually saw who the voice belonged too. It was Starlight one of his many friends he and Twilight had made during their stay in Ponyville. Since Twilight had moved back to Canterlot and had taken the role of being the princess of Equestria. She had named Starlight the new headmare of the school of friendship. He smiled as he walked up to her; he nuzzled the side of her head as she hugged him. Making sure not to disturb the sleeping changeling on his back.
She asked, “How was the date?”
He smiled and answered, “Good as always,” The two started walking down the hall, “How was your day?”
She immediately frowned which didn't go unnoticed by Spike. That meant only one thing; Twilight had sent a letter. He sighed and asked, “What was it about this time?”
She answered, “She heard another nasty rumor about you two. And, she is calling for the shutdown of a local newspaper because of a rather distaste full column about same sex couples.”
He replied, “I'll write her a letter later telling her to calm down.”
Starlight quickly moved in front of him and looked up at him. He could see the hurt in her eyes. It pained him to see any look like that from any of his friends. Before he could ask she spoke, “Don't,” She paused a moment before she continued, “I've read it and it's nothing more than hateful words used to smear the names of good ponies. It calls for reduction of all gay couples. It even calls for the death of some. It-.”
He interrupted her, “Means absolutely nothing,” She looked at him with an astonished face before he continued, “All that shows me is that stupidity is still spreading like a disease.”
Starlight couldn't find her voice for a moment. When she did she spoke, “How can it mean nothing to you? Haven't you read it?”
He replied, “Don't need to I hear it and see it every day when I walk out the doors. And it does not matter.”
She replied, “But it's-.”
He interrupted her again, “Some stallion or mare sitting at a desk behind a typewriter. Angry at the world because him or her cant get a date. And, has decided to make every other creatures life a living tartarus. Because they don't know what it's like to love or be loved.”
Starlight was once again silent; she couldn't find any words to say back. All she could do was stare at the dragon in front of her.
He then asked, “Do you want to know what,” He paused a moment before he continued, “Who....makes me happy?” She nodded and he answered, “The beautiful changeling currently sleeping on my back. He makes me happy, he makes me feel loved and I love him back. If I ever need to talk, to get something off my chest. He is there for me. Just like I am there for him whenever he needs a shoulder to cry on. Or whenever he just needs love.”
Starlight tried to speak, “But-”
He interrupted her again, “But, nothing,” He took in a deep breath and calmed himself down before he continued, “Starlight, I am grateful for how you feel,” He clarified, “I'm grateful for how all of you feel. But, You, Twilight, and the rest of the girls need to understand. You can't change a creatures opinion or their themselves. They have to do it on their own,” He then asked her, “What do you see in front of you?”
She answered, “I see a young and handsome dragon with his-.”
He interrupted her again, “You're only seeing the cover of the book Starlight,” She was confused by his statement. That was until he explained, “Starlight, for a long time on the inside I was in pain. Pain, because of how different I was from all of you. In Canterlot I was ousted and alienated by all the fillies and colts there. But, I never let it show. I kept it all in. why? Because I didn't want Twilight to worry about me. I cared more about how she felt; rather than having her care about how I felt. When we moved her and she started hanging out with the girls. I felt happy for her; she was finally making some friends. But, I also started to feel lonely.” He paused a moment as he remembered all the times he was left alone, “Me and you may have different definitions of being left alone or abandoned. But, I kept hiding it all behind a smile. A smile that hurt every time I put it on. On the outside I was happy baby dragon living in Ponyville. But, on the inside I was depressed, I was sad, alone.”
Starlight gasped as she saw a tear fall from Spikes eye; she was tempted to hug him and apologize for not noticing it sooner.
But he continued, “But, that all changed the day I met a certain changeling,” he looked over his shoulder and gazed lovingly at him, “He told me his story about his time at the hive. He was just like me; alienated and ousted by his brothers and sisters. All because he was born the way he was. I don't see a creature that was like me. I see a creature that had experienced the same hurt that I had gone through. But, its not just that I see. Have you ever seen him smile or have you ever taken the time to really get to know him? This may sound corny but he makes my day; even when I've had the worst. He is not only my friend. He is my mate. Someone I can talk too, who I can confine into, he is Thorax the changeling that I love. He is my paradise in this tartarus of society.”
The moment he finished he stood their; his face showed a look of complete calm. While his eyes continued to have tears falling down from them. Gently, Starlight walked up and dried his tears before she hugged him again. He pressed his head up against her before placing a paw around the back of her head. They held each other for a few minutes until they separated and he continued on to his room. While she retired to hers.
Once he was at his bedroom door; he gently opened the door and closed it. It was then he noticed the wet feeling he felt on his back. He smiled as he asked, “You heard every word?”
Thorax answered, “Yes,” His voice was on the verge of breaking as he asked, “Did you mean it?”
He nodded and answered, “I meant every word, love.”
He then walked over to his bed; he then knelt down allowing Thorax to climb off of him and onto his bed. When Spike stood up; he had every intention on sending Twilight a letter. But, that changed the moment he locked eye's with Thorax. His emerald color eyes were lost in his star lite ones. They stared at each other for a moment before they shared a gentle kiss on the lips. When they broke the kiss; Spike crawled into the bed next to him. He layed on his back while Thorax lay on top of him. The two once again stared into each others eyes. Before they shared another kiss. Twilight could wait; this night belonged to him and his mate.
