Princess Twilight's reign has thus far been peaceful and prosperous, and creatures of every description have thrived under her watchful protection and wisdom. Equestria stands as a beacon to all the other species of the globe, and in turn, Equestria's position as an undisputed hegemon has emerged, enabling ponies all sorts of opportunities abroad. The Guardians of Harmony find themselves out of the country's borders as often as they do at home, and others have taken their previous positions, doing their utmost to live up to the standards of their predecessors. Sandbar has taken over the daily running of Carousel Boutique with Yona Yak while Rarity tends to her franchise, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders have secured tenure as full time professors at the School of Friendship. All is well.

One day, though, Sweetie returns to her home to find Sandbar doing something other than tending to the shop items and various other elements necessary to running a business. She finds him on a rather unorthodox break, and with some very special items of his own. Manager of the store or not, she can't allow this to happen in her home, and so something needs to be done to correct it. Oh, whatever might that be?
