On a rainy day like any other, no creature expected the impossible to happen. Only two months after the defeat of the Monstrous Trio, something that only happened in the worst nightmares of many was realized during a stormy night. The lightning cracked and the thunder roared through the darkened sky, occasionally illuminating the statue that symbolized the defeat of the three beings responsible for the greatest threat Equestria had ever seen.
Few knew that the statue wasn’t just a statue, but a prison holding that evil away, locked in time, and eternally frozen; silently making them pay for all the suffering, pain, and destruction they caused to Equestria and the world at large. Those same few that knew the truth would be appalled to see that their deepest fears were becoming a reality.
The admittedly gorgeous and provocative statue of the infamous Queen Chrysalis shone with green, ethereal energy to cut through the veil of darkness that surrounded it. Her beauty was tarnished by the feral, angry snarl on her face; promising a painful, slow suffering to anyone foolish enough to stand in her way. From the base of her horn, the green light became more intense.
The crack of lightning gave light to the shattering of the stone and the coming thunder eclipsed all sound the breaking stone produces as it began to crack apart. First, only small flakes of it began to fall, but soon enough the cracks spread all over her body and huge slabs of her cold, unfeeling prison impacted the soil below. The process was slow and her body remained still as it occurred.
Then, another lightning strike followed by the most shocking and bellowing thunder of all. So much so that it shook the land. A large chunk of stone fell from her face, revealing her frozen, lifeless right eye. It lasted but for a moment, the light of the fury of the heavens dying out once more. Then, her eye shone with green energy and began to move frantically. The rest of her body also moved, trembling in panic, horror and terror reflecting in her eye as more and more chunks of stone fell to the soil.
A mighty burst of magic flowed from her horn at the same time lightning and thunder made themselves present in the heavens once more. Pieces of stone flew everywhere and Chrysalis fell to the ground. Her knees hit the wet, muddy soil first, followed by her hands and then the rest of her body as she lacked the strength to do anything but tremble uncontrollably.
“Fffwwaaaaaaaaa!” She gasped for air before breaking into a coughing fit that burned her lungs. The once mighty and proud Queen of the Changelings couldn’t do anything other than lay in a puddle of mud, sinking deeper and deeper in her shame. Cowering like an insect and feeling more vulnerable and weakened than at any other point in her life.
She closed her eyes, her only form of escape as she tried to forget the memories coming to her. A hiss of defiance, a last valiant charge of anger against her enemies, and then… the creeping feeling of magic turning her body into stone.
Chrysalis couldn’t help but smile widely, wickedly. “...ha ha ha… ha ha ha ha ha! AHA HAHAHAHAHA!” She began to laugh, weakly at first but soon gaining traction. Her strength returned to her, at least enough for her to stand up and gain a semblance of her dignity. The crackling of lightning and the booming roar of thunder made her shift her gaze at the other two statues, her cellmates, in a sense.
For the briefest of moments, the idea of freeing Cozy Glow and Lord Tirek crossed her mind. As much as she hated to admit it, they made a good team and perhaps if they worked together again they could reign supreme and defeat Twilight Sparkle and her friends once and for all.
But she rejected the idea before it could fully begin to mature in her mind. “I am Queen Chrysalis, Mother of the Swarm,” she declared to herself, smiling proudly and sneering at the two figures at the same time. Looking around, she could see the fragments of the stone that had captured her scattered about.
A dark, wide, wicked smile formed in her lips, curling into a sinister expression that exposed her sharp fangs. Another idea came to her mind. “I think you two can be of further use to me~,” she sang, mocking cruelly at the two statues while her horn glowed with her energy.
Lightning and thunder pierced through the sky, silencing an explosion of magic and the shattering of stone.
When the light died out, Chrysalis was already gone.

Chrysalis moved quickly, darting past shadows and avoiding all sources of light. The only evidence of her passing was the clanging of her hooves against the wet stone ground of Canterlot. Finally, after what felt like several hours of searching through the rain, the gloom, and the horrid stench of joy and friendship that threatened to choke her to death, she found refuge. Hardly deserving of her presence, but given her current predicament, she had no other option.
Darting into the thankfully dry alleyway, she sought to hide from the rain and the cold inside a large cardboard box big enough to fit her comfortably. Catching her breath and covering herself with the remaining rags of her once magnificent and masterfully crafted dress, the once mighty but always prideful Queen Chrysalis allowed herself a moment of respite.
“Damn them… damn them all!” She cursed, hissing under her breath. “My subjects, my kingdom, my revenge! They took everything away from me… but Queen Chrysalis is not to be double-crossed nor looked down upon! I am free once more! Your stupidity shall be your downfall, Starlight Glimmer! Twilight Sparkle, you will see Equestria destroyed and conquered by my own hands, I’ll make sure of that!” She ended her proclamation with a fierce punch to the ground that contained all her frustration.
Sighing, the queen of the Changelings shivered as the fire of hatred inside of her was the only thing keeping the biting jaws of the rain’s cold from claiming any more of her decayed dignity. Several minutes passed, or perhaps hours, but eventually, the water covering her body dried up to some extent.
Casting her gaze over her own body for a few moments, Chrysalis sneered before throwing away the remnants of her dress; tearing it without a care in the world and spitting on it once all of it had been removed. Then… only rain and whistling wind.

The two mares blinked as a beautiful black cat with green eyes called from the side, sitting close to the door and looking at them puzzlingly, tilting its head. Both mares sighed in relief, fanning their faces using their hands. “You gave us quite a scare, little one,” Sassy Saddles stammered to say whilst sighing in relief.

Rising to her hooves again, Chrysalis proceeded to gently pet her prisoner. “Oh, poor, foolish mare. As far as Twilight and the rest of your damnable friends are concerned, you’re on an extended trip through Abyssinia. No one can reach you and no one is missing you, cunt.”
