The Macintosh Mountains had quite a unique history to them. Not only were they once an important military location for the borders of Equestria, but they were once considered sacred in old earth pony faith before the Church of Harmony. All the ancient texts gathered throughout history spoke of a great mountain that birthed their race. It was generally believed the Macintosh Mountains were where earth ponies began before descending into the lands beyond to establish their early primitive societies. Archaeologists often found old skulls and caves home to Pre-Equestria cave ponies, long before even the recorded first nations were made, which helped prove that theory.
Of course, there was more recent history as well. In these mountains, the final battle in the last Griffin-Pony war took place here, where Princess Celestia slew Emperor Golden Claw and Princess Luna killed his daughter Princess Velvetfeather before the griffins retreated to their soon to be crumbling empire. It was here that the wise Holy Hooves, future Grand Cardinal of the Church of Harmony, meditated for years and later unlocked what she believed was the spiritual connection between the sun and moon that led her to be proclaimed a blessed saint by the Princesses. And it was also in these mountains where one of the most famous Wonderbolts, Captain Vexing Speed, was laid to rest after rescuing her comrades from a dangerous dragon attack but dying in the process.
Now, these sacred mountains of Equestrian history held the hiding place of the last true Equestrians that refused to bow to their human invaders or the traitors who surrendered to them: The Equestrian Freedom Fighters. It was an organization of hundreds of ponies, all from different corners of their nation, who were willing to fight and die to restore Equestria to its former glory.
They had tried to do this for years, but with time passing by and little to no success, many were starting to lose hope. Thus, the bar that the base held was always occupied more or less.
Most ponies wouldn't drink so heavily before they were going to do something big tomorrow. However, considering that next evening might be the greatest or worst thing Lightning Dust would do in her life, she didn't really care about the consequences. Besides, she could take her liquor really well. The numerous bars she attended after she got kicked out of the Wonderbolt Academy could be a testament to that.
"Another one, Bowtie," Lightning Dust said as she raised her glass to the bartender, a balding pale earth pony with a grumpy-looking face. "Keep them coming."
"I have other customers to serve drinks to, Lightning," Bowtie Bowler said before turning his attention to two other members of the Freedom Fighters that Lightning didn't care to know about. She just puffed and waited with her head resting on her hoof. She was surprised the bar wasn't filled with more members of the EFF, but that only meant more drinks for her.
Then again, Lightning would be lying if she wasn't nervous about tomorrow, even if she would deny it to anypony else. It had been six years since the Conversion War ended. Millions of ponies were dead, and Equestria suffered the first war it ever lost in its one-thousand-year history. Despite their magic, tactics, and superior mastery of the land and sky, they were defeated by the human race, who utterly ruined everything once great about Equestria. Now they were, for the lack of a better term, their bitches.
Like many ponies, Lightning Dust signed up for the military as soon as the war started. She really didn't care about the morality of it or the reasons. Lightning wanted to fight for her home like any average pony would. That, and she needed a job. The Washouts ended up in the gutter after one complaint too many about stupid "reckless endangerment" that caused them to end up broke. After going through multiple jobs trying to keep herself from going homeless, joining up was a blessing. Plus, she got to actually use her talents in the air for something other than cheap party tricks as an entertainer for hire.
Sure, she wasn't fighting side by side with the Wonderbolts, but considering how they all nearly got killed during the Invasion of Equestria? Guess I lucked out on not ending up as a bunch of tiny pieces like the rest of them. Heh, wish I could have seen Spitfire's face before she got blown up. If only Rainbow Dash ended up like the rest of them. Then it would be perfect.
It was ironic that the two of them were "comrades" once again upon joining the Equestrian Freedom Fighters, but they both made it clear they didn't care for each other. Sweetie Drops was also wise enough to keep them from working on missions together, but this next big one would require all their big players. Even Lightning Dust knew that she had to work together with Rainbow Dash on this one.
Never tried to kill a princess before, Lightning Dust thought as she smirked at the thought. Would certainly put my name in the history books.
Even she was surprised that this action was being considered since Twilight Sparkle was the most protected pony in Equestria. Since her surrendering to the U.N., multiple ponies tried to have her killed. Not just members of the EFF but individuals who hated her just as much and blamed her for everything. Of course, they all ended in failure. Twilight Sparkle, traitor or not, was powerful and quickly stopped multiple murder attempts. Plus, there were still the Royal Guards loyal to her who had become even more dangerous since their reformation. But they weren't the only ones protecting her. The U.N. had given her their own special forces to keep her safe, and even if you got past all of them, there was still that dragon of hers that was willing to burn you to ashes.
It wasn't also like they had an advantage in this going forward. After the EFF's failed attempt to get the scroll to turn their numbers into alicorns, Twilight did a massive inquisition of those with ties or sympathetic notions towards the EFF. All of their spies, contacts, and informants were found out save for a very few. Secret passages were sealed off or obliterated. Security had tripled. Honestly, it took months and various stages of replanning to even get this far.
Some even wondered if it was possible.
And then Princess Celestia was executed.
The last true princess of Equestria was dead. Their leader, their goddess, the mother of them all, had joined her sister and the others in death.
There was only one proper response for this outcome in everypony's mindset.
After a final vote that ended unanimously, it was decided to go forward with "Operation Queen's Fall." Where they would engage in perhaps the most challenging operation in the EFF's short history. And Lightning Dust knew it could be their last. It could be her final few moments. So why not live it up a little at the bar? Good thing the Secret Service included this in their backup plan when building this place.
"This seat taken?" Lightning Dust turned her gaze to see a bluish-grey earth pony with an even greyer mane pointing to the seat next to the bar. Lightning took a chance to check out her cutie mark—and her pleasant flank—to see that it was a lime over two grey rocks. "Well? Are you listening? Or are you drunk already?"
Lightning Dust snorted in amusement. "Please, it takes more to knock me out than this. As for the seat? Go ahead and sit your butt on it. I don't care."
The newcomer glared her eyes at Lightning Dust (not that she cared) before sitting down as Bowtie walked over to them. "I take it that you want your usual, Limestone?"
"Yup, but go extra on the gin," Limestone said with a nod.
"And fill me up too," Lightning Dust said, raising her empty glass.
Bowtie got to work and, in a few minutes, presented the drinks to the mares who took them. Limestone was about to sip hers when Lightning Dust raised her glass. "Cheers. To the death of Twilight Sparkle tomorrow."
"I'll drink to that," Limestone muttered before they clicked their glasses. After a few sips, Limestone took a moment to sigh and looked at Lightning with a raised eyebrow. "I didn't know you were on the assignment tomorrow. Then again, I think most of us are."
"Save for the newbies and a few others? Pretty much," Lightning Dust said with a nod. "What part are you going to be on?"
"I'm part of the break-in team," Limestone answered as she took another drink. "My family's been rock farmers for generations. We're talented in this kind of stuff. I can pretty much break anything save for the hardest of steels. So I'll be helping out with the entrance. What about you?"
"Distraction duty. I'm fast, tough, and I was trained to be a Wonderbolt before I got kicked out," Lightning Dust answered with a grin. "I'm going to be taking down as many of those humans and traitors while the real team heads out to kill Miss Star Butt."
"Used to be a Wonderbolt? What happened?" Limestone asked, leaning on the bar's table.
"Eh, a bunch of horseapples that I'm not interested in talking about," Lightning said with a shrug. "Needless to say, considering all that's happened? I lucked out. Well, save for Rainbow Dash, who everypony calls a hero for just surviving the war. She's not as great as she makes herself out to be."
"My sister would say differently," Limestone Pie whispered, looking down at her drink with narrow eyes. "She called Rainbow Dash one of her best friends and one of the most loyal ponies she knew."
"Knew, huh?" Lightning Dust sighed as she took another drink. "I take it she's gone, huh?"
"Yeah," Limestone growled before she took a big gulp of her drink. "Bucking humans bombed her and the family she was with during the Bombing of Ponyville. My sister bucking died to those bastards, and Twilight has the balls to surrender to them? Princess of Friendship my flank. What kind of friend makes peace with a bunch of murdering scumbag monkeys?"
"...Shit, you're Pinkie Pie's sister?" Lightning Dust asked, eyes widening in realization. She might not have been the biggest fan of Rainbow Dash's friends, but even she knew how both Pinkie and Rarity had died. Their deaths all but signaled that Equestria was doomed to be in this hellhole of a planet. "I thought all the family members of the Elements were dead?"
"No, the rest of my family survived," Limestone stated as she shook her head. "Only they just want to move on from what happened. My parents, my sisters, even the rest of the family. They just want to move on from the war as nothing happened." She slammed her hoof on the table. "I couldn't accept that! I couldn't accept that my sister, Pinkie Pie, had died like that! And that we weren't going to do anything about it! So yeah, I left and joined the Freedom Fighters! Got disowned for it, but I don't give a buck!"
Lightning Dust had to give the mare in front of her credit. It took guts to stand up to your own family and fight for a cause they disagreed with. Limestone Pie finished the rest of her drink and slammed it on the table before turning to Lightning Dust. "What about you? Why did you join?"
"Well, I didn't join for revenge or anything like that," Lightning Dust admitted as she pushed her drink aside and smirked. "Sure, I'm patriotic, and I'm pissed we surrendered like that instead of going all out in the end, but I just joined because I had nowhere else to go."
"Seriously?" Limestone asked eyebrow raised.
"Yup. Got no family. No friends. Hay, I was pretty much homeless after the war. When I got asked if I wanted to join this group, I said yes," Lightning Dust answered with a grin. "Don't get me wrong. I want to see Equestria free as the next honest and decent pony with a shred of loyalty and pride in them. However, I'm really just doing this for the kicks."
"...To each her own, I guess," Limestone stated before she pushed her glass away. "So, think we're going to survive tomorrow?"
"Maybe," Lightning Dust said, shrugging her shoulders. "I've never cared about tomorrow. Just today. The way I see it, if we succeed, it will be awesome, and we'll be heroes. If we buck up? Well, I guess my time is up, and it's the end for me. I live life to the fullest without fear of death because we're all going to die one day. Why not do it on your own terms if you can."
"What? Are you in that much of a hurry to get to Elysium?" Limestone asked.
"Nah, don't believe in it. I mean, does anyone consider our religion to be true anymore now that every goddess we were told to believe in is a traitor or dead?" Lightning Dust pointed out, shaking her head. "I don't care what happens after I'm dead. I only care about living it until it happens. So that means drinking, partying, and bucking until it's all over."
"...Heh, wish I could be like that," Limestone whispered as she leaned over the table. "I'm honestly scared...any ideas on how to relax?"
"...We could have sex?" Lightning Dust suggested making Limestone zip her head towards the grinning pegasus. "What? Too forward?"
"Seriously?! The buck?!" Limestone asked, reeling back. "You want to just have sex with me out of nowhere?! I'm not a whore!"
"Never said you were, Limy," Lightning Dust said, which made the earth pony growl at that nickname. If looks could kill, Lightning would be six feet under by now. "Look, you're stressed. I'm bored. Tomorrow we could get killed. You got a great flank that's nice and toned as well. Who wouldn't want to ravage it for an evening?" Limestone turned red upon hearing this. "So let's have some fun under the sheets. Nothing else but a little bucking here and there."
She then grinned and moved in for the kill. "Unless you're afraid because you're a virgin."
This made Limestone Pie glare at Lightning Dust before she grabbed the pegasus's drink and gulped it down in one gulp before slamming it down. "First off? Not a virgin. Second? My room. Now."

It was a good thing that Limestone had her own room to herself. Had they done it at Lightning Dust's place, they would have had to tell her roommate to get out. Kicking the door open, the two mares were already starting via mouth to mouth before Limestone closed the door, turned Dust around, and slammed her to the back of her door with a loud thud. Lightning grinned as Limestone then proceeded to nibble and suck at her neck and shoulder. Lighting could feel a hoof slowly sneaking downwards into her folds which were starting to get moist from the feeling of that rock farmer's strong and nimble teeth biting into her flesh. Usually, Lightning Dust's lovers were submissive to her own aggressive lovemaking, but it looked like she was going to have a competition tonight.
And that was fine by her.
Not wanting to be outdone, Lightning Dust took her tail and suddenly smacked the right flank of Limestone, who let out a small gasp and grunt upon the surprise blow. This allowed the pegasus to turn the tables by pushing the mare onto the nearby bed and getting on top. She pinned her wings against the forearms of Limestone and grinned at her blushing face. "Feisty little one, aren't you?"
"You're just about the same age as me!" Limestone huffed, puffing her cheeks. That soon changed to moaning as Lightning Dust pressed their lips together again.
She had to admit that Pie's mouth tasted like salt and vinegar at the same time. A bitter and yet flavorful taste. Gently she pressed her chest against the fury of her currently pinned comrade and began to stroke back and forth. The tips of their hairy coats were sticking up as heat began to warm its way downward to Lightning's lower lips.
Limestone tried to push her off with her own force, but Lightning had her down too much to do anything. Ending the kiss, Lightning whispered, "Since you're down there already, let's let you start first."
Grinning, Lightning began to change her position so that her rump was directly over a blushing Limestone while she lifted her tail to give the pinned earth pony a look at her sweet flank. Her pussy was already dripping lightly with cum in anticipation of pleasure. Limestone didn't waste a single second more as she slowly closed her eyes and began to press her lips against Lightning's cunt. The pegasus shivered as she felt those hot and salty lips press against her nether regions before licking them gently.
Limestone slowly switched between kissing and licking the folds almost at perfect moments. Lightning's haunches relaxed as she slowly lowered them more while her lover started pressing forward harder and harder. Two strong hooves gripped the lightning-based cutie marks and them tight, squeezing them like melons. There was a slight wince of pain from the pressure, but that was soon replaced with comfort as the strong hooves began massaging the light green rump. Lightning Dust knew that one had to have great strength to be a farmer, but just feeling the rough hooves of Limestone made the pegasus glad she was on their side for the rebellion.
After flicking her tongue in and out a few times, Limestone decided that the time for playing it easy was over. She pressed her muzzle hard against Lightning's pussy and opened her mouth wide to let her tongue thoroughly lick the surface of the outer walls before diving inside full-on without stop. Lightning yelped upon feeling Limestone's hot organ enter inside her, licking her tunnels clean with swirls and laps. "Ohhh, buuuccckkk..."
All thoughts about the potential suicide mission tomorrow we're thrown out with just that one move alone. Despite it being against her nature, Lightning Dust entirely stopped any sort of control over the situation and slowly relaxed on Limestone's body. The earth pony was now completely eating her without stopping, gripping harder as Lightning became putty in her hooves. More and more did Lightning feel her insides melting from the pleasure as pressure began to build up inside her like a shaken bottle of soda pop.
"Limestone... I'm... I'm gonna..." Lightning Dust tried to warn, but her voice then yelled as her dam finally burst. Her juices were unleashed as they washed over Limestone's mouth and chin, wetting her face. She licked her lips and drank as much as she could before falling back onto the bed, gasping for air. "Holy Celestia...that was nice..."
"Damn straight," Limestone gasped as she wiped her mouth. She grinned. "Told you I wasn't a virgin."
Lightning Dust couldn't help but chuckle at this before she flipped herself up and pressed her muzzle against Limestone, nose to nose. Grinning back, Lightning whispered, "Now it's my turn."
Placing one of her rear legs over one of Limestone's, Lightning began to slowly press her wet and hot pussy against Limestone's barely dripping one. The moment their special spots touched, the two let out a huff and instantly began to push hard against one another. The fluids leftover from Lightning Dust's cum started to soak the nether regions of Limestone as the friction between them continued.
"Buck...buck..." Limestone whispered as she let her tongue slowly limp out, and her cheeks began to turn red. Her breath started to turn hot as Lightning Dust pressed her lips against her own again. Only this time, Limestone was too enthralled to make an effort to fight back.
Lightning Dust forced the earth pony to open her mouth and let her tongue explore the insides of her mouth without anything stopping her. Meanwhile, she continued to press and scissor down below, letting her pussy do the work. Like her namesake, she was fast like lightning itself. Every thrust was better than any stallion's cock that Limestone ever had in her years growing up.
It was always a pain in the flank to deal with all the stress of being a freedom fighter, emotions, and build-up. Yet, to herself be controlled and bucked like there was no tomorrow (which was a possibility), she felt more relaxed tonight than she had in years.
Lightning Dust soon ended the kissing and leaned back until her own wings were on the bed. She grunted and went faster, even pushing herself to flight levels of speed to increase the vibration and pressure. This only made Limestone scream harder as her pussy nearly burst right then and there from the increased speed. Finally, without any more delays, Limestone let out one final neigh before her own damn burst. A few seconds later, Lightning Dust did as well. The two cummed so closely to each other that both of their nether regions were soon mixed with each other's cream.
Panting, the two mares went limp as they closed their eyes to catch their breath. Slowly, Lightning Dust unfolded her legs and turned around before crawling over to Limestone on the right side of the bed. The two just continued to recover from their lovemaking before Lightning finally asked, "So? Was it good?"
"Buck, it was terrific," Limestone gasped before smirking. "Needed it too."
"Yeah, well, I think every adult pony needs a good screwing before they head out to battle," Lightning Dust said before the two of them both smirked at each other and looked upward into the ceiling.
There was a long silence between the two as neither made a movement to do something to follow up on their little bed session together. Usually, Lightning Dust would just get up and leave while saying a few goodbyes with her latest one-night stand, but something prevented her this time. Maybe it was because they were both going to be fighting for their lives tomorrow on what had to be the riskiest mission yet for the EFF since their attempt to rescue Princess Celestia.
"...Are you really not afraid of dying?" Limestone asked, out of nowhere.
"No," Lightning Dust answered honestly. She had never been scared of death, even as a filly. "To be perfectly honest, my life hasn't been all daisies and sunshine. My parents kicked me out when I was old enough. Don't ask why. It's all bullshit. I got kicked out of the Wonderbolts Academy. My own attempts to start my own thrill-seeking performance failed. I've had to struggle with multiple jobs. This EFF thing has been the best thing for me since I can fight, eat, sleep, and whatever."
"So, what are you afraid of?" Limestone asked, raising her eyebrow. "You can't tell me you're nervous about this."
"I said I'm not nervous about dying," Lightning Dust pointed out as she stared at the mare. "I'm nervous about suffering. Being captured. Locked in prison for life. I'm a pegasus. I'm not meant to be stuck in some box with bad food and a crappy toilet. I'll gladly take the noose before that. Or better yet, do it myself before they get me."
"... I'm afraid of there being nothing after death," Limestone sighed as she looked away. "I've always believed the Princesses were goddesses, but after the war...I guess a real god wouldn't have died or been able to stop humanity. I don't even know if there is an afterlife anymore and if there isn't...I just don't want to be nothing..."
"Well, if there is nothing, at least you died doing something," Lightning Dust pointed out. "Generations from now, we're going to be remembered. Either as heroes or as villains. And don't give me that look. I'm realistic to think there is a chance we're going to fall flat on our flanks. The way I see it, we're either going to make a bang or go out with a bang. And that's all that matters to me. Making my mark. And if there is a heaven or hell out there? I'll be sure to make my mark there too."
Limestone couldn't help but chuckle. "You really are an interesting pony. Wish I met you earlier in my life."
"Yeah, I got that effect on ponies," Lightning Dust replied with a smirk. "I'm awesome."
She was about to get up when Limestone pressed her hoof on her chest. Looking at the mare, who was hiding behind her mane, she whispered, "Can you stay with me? If this is the last night of my life...I want it to be with somepony..."
"...Sure.'

Lightning Dust supposed that if she was going to be executed, then firing squad wasn't that bad of a way to go. She honestly didn't like the idea of being hanged since there was a chance your neck couldn't break upon falling, and decapitation, it turned out, wasn't as quick since your brain was still alive for a few seconds after having your head removed from your neck. She wondered if it would be by arrows as was the tradition in Equestria or by one of the human weapons. If the latter, she really hoped it wasn't plasma. Seeing ponies melting before one's eyes was not a fate she wished on anyone, including herself.
At least I'm not going to die alone, Lightning Dust thought as she turned her back towards the mare a few ponies behind her. Limestone was there, a patch over her eye since it was lost in the failed operation, but she didn't seem nervous like she was last night. Spotting her, Limestone gave a small smile and nod. Looks like she's accepted that this is the end.
The operation had been a failure. They came close, at least from what Lightning heard from the few survivors, but in the end, they failed. It turns out that Trixie had been a traitor from the beginning. Giving information about the EFF to the UN. All because they killed some stupid human she was in love with during one of their bombings. The only comfort that Lightning Dust took was that the traitorous bitch was also dead. Killed by Applejack's own hooves in a last-ditch attempt to kill Twilight.
Lightning Dust had tried to escape with the others, but one stun spell from a unicorn guard knocked her out. The next thing she knew, she was in a cell and being told she would be executed for treason. Well, at least we're going out with a bang.
The ponies around her, all locked and held at gunpoint, were sobbing, praying, or shouting about how their comrades would avenge them. That they would win the fight in the end. Lightning Dust has to roll her eyes on that. The EFF was finished. Anyone could see that. It was only a matter of time.
And with the EFF dead, it would be the final end of Equestria at last.
"Next seven! You're up! Move!" A human guard said as the steel door opened.
Time to face the music, Lightning Dust thought as she took a deep sigh and marched forward. Her limbs were chained, and her wings were both clipped and locked with steel chains to prevent her from flying. The unicorns in their little group were also unable to use their horns, thanks to the nullification rings on them.
The room they were guided into was a simple black steel one with several red "X's" in the middle. Seven armed humans, each with assault rifles, stood ready a few feet away from the red X's. Alongside them were a few doctors, both pony and human, and a few others that Lightning Dust didn't care to give a damn about. She briefly tried to look for Twilight Sparkle, but there was no sign of her. Too bad. Lightning wanted her final words to be telling the alicorn bitch to kiss her flank while mooning her before they shot.
The seven of them were guided to their respective marks, where they turned around as one of the Royal Guards walked forward. "Starcube. Little Lamp. Lightning Dust. Moonfly. Evening Hallow. Limestone Pie. And Razzle Ball. You have all been found guilty on charges of treason, murder, terrorism, attempted murder, and more. By the power of Princess Twilight Sparkle, you are hereby to be executed by firing squad. Due to your families refusing your bodies returned to them, you will be buried with the rest of your terrorist comrades outside of Equestria. Your names will be forever spat for your actions and the innocent blood you have spilled. If you have any final words to say before your death, feel free to do so."
Some of the others gave speeches. Others were begging for mercy. Lightning Dust refused to say anything. She was ready. Limestone only asked them to let Twilight know she would see her sister, and that was it.
With their final locks in place, the firing squad stepped forward. Taking a final moment to prepare herself, Lightning took one last look at Limestone, who looked back at her too. The two shared a final smile before looking directly at their executioners.
"FIRE!"

A few hours later, outside of Canterlot, numerous gravediggers were putting down the last of the caskets of the traitors that had been executed earlier in the day. Rows of graves, most of them buried, were covered in dirt but nothing more save for a headstone with their names. For years to follow, this small land space would be known as "Traitor's End Graveyard," where future traitors would be left to rot.
For the ponies working there, it was just another day for them. Executions were sadly common in the past few years ever since the end of the war. Most didn't care, seeing as it was just another job for their workload, but a few others wished that some ponies made different choices. The final two caskets had arrived last as the unicorns took the simple wooden objects and lifted them out. Without so much as a word, they slowly lowered the bodies into their final resting place in the earth before their fellow workers began to fill the hole. Once it was done, and the last of the dirt was piled, the group all soon picked up their equipment and moved out after a job well done.
However, one unique thing stood out about this grave. Due to a mistake, they were short one gravestone, so it was decided to let them share the same one:
“Here lie the bodies of Lightning Dust and Limestone Pie
Executed for Treason
Rest In Peace”
