There is little to distinguish important work and personal fun in the magical land of Equestria. Keeping the kingdom safe requires keeping the citizens happy and entertained, unity and love can carry them through the coldest and most bitter of storms, and the most powerful and devestating weapon they possess is quite literally a rainbow beam powered by friendship. Regardless as to whether they are undertaking important stately duties for the service of the common citizen or letting down their mane, it can be hard to tell whether an Equestrian is on duty or is simply enjoying some R&R. Spike, despite being a dragon, is more than happy with this arrangement, and has adapted to it with a grace and elegance that marks him as one of the most competent officers of state.

When walking through the Everfree Forest on his way to visit Zecora, he comes across a situation that demands his attention, and as the Friendship Ambassador to almost the entire world, there is little that falls out of the remit of his responsibilities. Does this count as personal time or will it be work-related recoverable expenses? Was his journey to see Zecora work-related in the first place? Does any of it matter?

No, of course it doesn't. It ends in the same way, regardless.
