Walking down the road towards the candy shop I casted another glance over my shoulder. I guess you could say I was a little bit jittery and to me it was a good reason. The ringing of a bell sounded above me and let the mare working behind the counter tell her she had a new customer. Bon Bon looked up over at me and gave a wide smile. My heart constricted tightly for a moment but the feeling went away as she called me over. “What can I do for you today, Scootaloo?”
“I was wondering…if I could help you out today?” I asked quietly, not shyly, no I didn’t do shy. I just didn’t want any other pony overhearing me if they walked in at that moment. To my relief Bon Bon heard me and let out a chuckle, gesturing with her hoof to the back room.

“Of course, trying out for your cutie mark again aren’t you?” I gave her a nod and opened my mouth to speak as I trailed behind her, but I couldn’t get the words out. I scrubbed my hooves together and tried not to look in Bon Bon’s eyes as I answered.
“Applebloom’s busy helping AJ and Big Macintosh with harvesting and Rarity took Sweetie to Canterlot with her. I decided to try it out by myself today…” The last words caught on my tongue and came out in a mumble, I really hope Bon Bon wouldn’t see through my lie. Glancing a quick look to her she smiled, nodding in an understanding way then turned to her kitchen. She brought out bowls and ingredients, watching her I felt my heart twinge again. What is the matter with you, Scoots? I asked myself before going over to start helping the candy mare.
“I think we’ll start off making some chocolate covered strawberries, does that sound good?” I nodded my approval, waiting for my directions to get started. Bon Bon placed a pot on her stove and turned it on. “Can you break up these pieces of chocolate for me and place it in the pot while I get the strawberries?”
“Alright” I said quickly, grabbing the bar of chocolate she placed in front of me and began breaking it.
“Don’t forget to stir continually or else you’ll burn the chocolate.” She added, I heard her rummaging behind me most likely grabbing the strawberries from the fridge. With the chocolate in the pot I stirred it carefully, it wasn’t really exciting. Nothing like trying to earn a cliff jumper cutie mark or tree climbing, but it was oddly relaxing watching it melt together. I barely noticed Bon Bon lean over my shoulder before she spoke.
“Looks good, we can dip the berries now.” I jumped a little, shocked at the sound of her voice so close to my ear. The spoon I was using to stir with flung out of my hold and hit me in the chest.

“Ah!” Was the only sound I could make, the melted hot chocolate stung and burn, I felt tears well up in my eyes and I turned briskly away from Bon Bon.
“Oh my goddess, Scootaloo, I am so sorry I scared you!” She yelped, I felt her hoof place itself on my shoulder and carefully turn me to face her. “Are you alright, we need to wash that off with cold water right away.” She nudged me forward with her head against my rump as if I was a baby foal just learning to walk, I took the sign and started to walk. “Let’s get you to the washroom, it will be far easier to get it off in the bath.” Bon Bon said gently.
