"Oh!" Shining Armor said, looking at the envelope and levitating it across the breakfast table to Cadence. "A letter from Patty."

Cadence squealed and tore the envelope open.

"Who's Patty?" Sunburst asked, trying to give a spoonful of mashed peas to Flurry. Flurry crossed her forelegs over her chest, frowned, and teleported out of the high chair.

Cadence looked at Sunburst, blushed, and looked down at the envelope.

"This information is classified," Shining said. "State Secrecy Rules apply."

Sunburst nodded. "Understood."

"When I was thirteen," Cadence said, "and first living in Canterlot Palace, right after getting my horn, I got pregnant by a guard. I waited too long to tell Celestia, so... well, that's one reason she kept me so hidden from view. As a newborn, we sent Patty to live with a nice couple in Cloudsdale that couldn't have foals of their own. They were both ex-Palace employees and good at keeping secrets."

"Oh," said Sunburst, levitating Flurry back into the high chair. "What about her father?"

"He's been at the Yakyakistan border checkpoint ever since," Shining said. "He literally froze his balls off."

"Oh," said Sunburst again.

"Then Patty manifested her mark: three golden rings, linked together," Cadence commented.

"What does it mean?" Sunburst asked.

"It seems to mean her specialty is using herself to bring others together. Once we realized what her talent was, I visited her and told her I was her biological mom."

"Ah."

"She still considers the Cloudsdale couple her parents, and me more like an older sister or cool aunt. And that's fine! They are her parents, as far as I'm concerned. We also told Twilight and Starlight when we had Patty admitted to the Friendship School. Nopony else knows."

Sunburst nodded again. "Does she like the school?"

Cadence read the letter:

Dear Cadence,
