Canterlot guard showers
1730hours, March 19, 1980

Gears walked into the showers, feeling the heat from the water as it hit the tile. Harvest was rubbing soup in Blueblood’s fur. Gears noticed the look on Blueblood's face. It was sad, as if someone tore his heart up in front of him. Gears approached the two in snails paced. Once he got close enough, Red Harvest pulled blueblood to her side and glared at Gears.

“What do you want?” She snarled

“I don’t want to fight. I’m just here to apologize to Blue” as Blueblood heard this his face lit up with hope. He moved away form Harvest’ side to look at Gears

“I’m sorry for getting angry and yelling at you,” he apologized

“Really?!” the two ponies said in unison one with surprised and the other with confusion

“Blueblood walked up to Gears with a happy yet sad smile. “Do you really mean it, mister Gears?”

“Yes, Blue I do. I was furious and I couldn’t think of anything to do to convince you to leave, so I just yelled instead, I’m sorry.”

Blueblood hugged his leg with a bright smile on his face. Gears looked down at him with an equally bright smile. He then looked up to see the glare that almost made him pick up blueblood and run. But he just stood there in an awkward silence, Blueblood being blissfully unaware of the staring match that began above his head. Red Harvest walked up to Gears and lightly pushed Blueblood off of him.

“You think you can just walk in here and just say sorry” harvest said angrily

“No, but I will work on making amends”

“I doubt that.”

“I will and you will see it don’t question my code.”

“Your code? What are you, a night watcher?” she said sarcastically

“No, the silent shadow”

“Silent shadow?!” Harvest had no idea what this stallion was talking about

“Who the fu-buck are you”

“I’m Gears. Now we should get back to the princess.”

“Fine.” Harvest turned off the water and walked with the two males out of the showers. Gears grabbed his clothes and put them on. Red Harvest looked at the stallion with confusion, but before she could say something. Blueblood asked him for her.

“Mister Gears, why do you put that stuff on?”

“It's called clothes, Blueblood, and most ponies wear them for different reasons.”

“Okay… but why do you wear them?”

Gears let out a sigh and forced a smile. “Because I like to look the best I can, Blue”

“Okay” After the interaction, the three ponies walked to the princess’ chambers. After a long walk filled with nothing but awkward silence, the three stopped and saw a cleaning stallion leave the room. Blue blushed in embarrassment as he recalled why the stallion needed to be there to begin with. The three entered the princess's room and saw doctor Fisherline talking about the projects she's been working on.

Canterlot’s royal chambers
1800hours, march 19, 1980

Princess twilight pulled out three chairs with her magic and motioned for them to take a seat. Once the three sat down. The five ponies talked about Blueblood,Harvest and Doctor Fisherline’s past but by the time it got to Gears’ past he gave vague answers, With a glint of sadness in his eyes, the looked got the interest of Fisherline and Blueblood who both wanted to know about Gears a little more. After a while of Harvest throws subtle jabbes towards Gears and vice versa. Twilight light gave him sever looks that stopped him from continuing further. After an hour, the tea finished and everyone said their goodbyes. Twilight halted her guardsmare and the student.

“Red Harvest, Gears, how about you two let off some steam in the training room.”

“Really!?” both ponies said in unison

“Yes, I do believe you two are still tense with one another.” The two looked down, a bit ashamed at being caught.

“Well, I could go for a good round or two, but what about Blueblood?”

“He could stay with me while you two have your little match.”

“That could work.”

“Whatever, let's get this over with.” Harvest said annoyed

The two ponies walked down to the training grounds. Both unaware that the princess and Blueblood were standing on the balcony overlooking the training grounds. Gears hoof a bo staff over to Harvest. She glared at him and got in the proper fighting stance. Gears grabbed his own bo staff and took his own stance. “Guardsmare Red Harvest the princess want us to duel, do you accepted her will” Gears asked internally chuckling at the tradition

“Yes,” she said, a bit confused

“Then we should begin.” Gears gave a small bow and swung at her. She blocked the attack and swung at his legs. He dogged the attack, with lightning-like speed he hit the side of her head. She staggered and Gears took the opportunity presented and struck her twic on the head and once in the back. Once she landed flat on the ground, Gears held the staff to her neck. She looked up at Gears with a glare. He just looked down at her with annoyance

“I expected more of a fight”

Harvest growled in anger and hit the staff that were pressed against her neck. Gears redirected the force from her strike and struck her in the hip. She let out a grunt of pain and quickly got up on all fours. She narrowly dodged two strikes from Gears. Harvest took flight and went in for a kick. Gears moved out of the way and grabbed her leg. He threw her to the ground. She turned and was immediately stuck in the muzzle. She retaliated with a headbutt catching Gears off guard and making him back off of her. She got on her hooves and hit his claw making him drop his staff. Harvest tried to throw a right hook at him but he caught it. Gears threw her to the side and grabbed her back and tossed her to the wall. She sat there looking up at him blood coming out her nostrils

“Red harvest I thing you should concessed you can’t win”

“The fuck I can!” she yelled, turning around and ringing her hind legs up she bucked him in the head hard enough to send him into the opposed wall. Harvest charged at Gears as he just stood there. She didn’t realize that he side stepped as she would have braille right into the wall if Gears didn’t grab her and pinned her to the ground.

“You really should just stop, trusting me. You can’t beat me.” he said with nothing but a red hoof print on his face

“I won’t let a stallion beat me!” Red Harvest shouted.

“Look at me do I look like a regular stallion”

“No!”

“Then don’t let your pride get in the way of your life because trust me if this was a real duel you would have been dead right at the beginning.”

“YOU HAVE WON GEARS” Princess Twilight yelled from the balcony. Blueblood right beside her. Gears let go of Harvest and gave her a smile he offered his claw, she grabbed his claw and was lifted up. Twilight and Blueblue were now on the training grounds. Blueblood ran to Gears with a big smile on his face.

Mister Gears Mister Gears you were so cool!” He hugged Gears’ leg. Gears netted down and embraced him. The two held like that till he looked over to twilight. She walked over to harvest who had a confused look on her face, wondering what exactly happened in the last hour.

“I think you did rather well counsreding your opponent”

“What? What Do you mean princess?”

“Well Gears likes determination when he sees it and you did last a lot longer than most”

“Does this happen a lot?”

“No, only a hoof full of times but everyone seems to have some form of vendetta against him.”

“What but why would they?”

“Because their scared of him and others like him the world is changing Sargent Harvest and it will take time for others to get used to it all we all have to do is make sure it changed in the right direction”

“Okay”

The library is open for all the castle staff; you might be able to find something about anything of interest there.”

I’ll keep that in mind” she said confused

Twilight chuckled and looked at Gears “I hope this could be a good path to you making a friend Gears” she thought, She walked towards Gears and Blueblood. Harvest looked at the three who were walking to the exit. Gears, blueblood and Twilight were approaching the front gates of the castle.

“You went easy on her”

“Yeah I didn’t want to break her, I already caused a lot of problems”

“Gears that wasn’t your fault that stallion went too far”

“Didn’t mean he had to-” Gears stop as he looked at Blueblood, who was looking at them with curiosity.

“I see what you mean but- forgive me I shouldn't have done that”

Gears hugged the princess “thank you for trying to help but maybe I-”

“Good night Gears.” Twilight raised his head and gave him a quick nuzzle “and please try to have a better opinion of yourself.”

“I’ll try princess” Gears grabbed Blueblood and walked out of the gates, Blueblood waved at the princess as the gates were closed behind them.

Canterlot, Gears’ Condo
2021hours, March 19, 1980

Gears with Blueblood on his back, opened the front door and walked into their home. Blueblood drowsily snuggled into Gears’ scales as he walked over to a bookshelf and picked out a large book. The book had the text “the holy bible” written in gold. Blueblood eyed the book with curiosity.

“Mister gears what that”

“It's a book that teaches about god.”

“Who?”

God I’m not surprised you haven’t heard of him, not many ponies practice this faith.”

“Why don’t they”

“Because a really bad pony got them to get rid of books like these but now that the princess is in charge ponies can start practiced faith again”

“Okay but why are you getting it mister Gears.

“This book has stories in it my father read me them when I was your age I want to read one to you before you go to sleep”

“I like stories.”

“Okay then come on let's get you to bed.”

Gears took Blueblood to his room and placed him on the bed. Gears tucked him in and pulled a chair from a nearby desk in the room. Blue just looked at Gears waiting for him to begin. Once the two got settled Gears opened the book and flipped it over to a page

“Judges 13:3-5, now Blue. This is a story about a Dragon named Samson. I hope you like it. I did when my father read it to me.” he began to read the story.
