The King Rules

King Sombra’s P.O.V:

On top of a tower, in the Crystal Empire was a purple unicorn. In front of her was a Crystal Heart. The unicorn stared at the heart, deciding if she should take it or not.

The purple dragon next to her said, “Twilight, just take it.”

The unicorn stared at the heart for a few more seconds, and then she took it out of its place.

As soon as her hoof touched the heart, black crystals shot out of the ground around her. The heart flew out of her hoof and landed out of her reach.

She said, “I was so foolish to just take it like that. I didn’t think that this would happen.”

The dragon tried to help her, but every time he went close to her, crystals shot out of the ground. My spells were working perfectly.

The unicorn thought for a moment before saying, “Spike, you’ve got to take the crystal heart out of here and into its place.”

The dragon protested, “But Twilight, you have to. Or you’ll fail your test.”

“It doesn’t matter about me Spike. I won’t be able to do anything while I’m trapped in this crystal. You have to be the one to take the heart.”

The dragon said, “But…”

The unicorn ordered him, “Just take it and go!”

The dragon did that and started climbing down the tower. I used a spell, and then a crystal shot up from underneath me, taking me higher and higher.

When the dragon saw me, he got scared and fell off the tower. I was getting closer and closer to him with each passing second.

Suddenly, a pink alicorn shot through the air, ready to save both the dragon and the heart. But I was quicker, and managed to grab the heart off the dragon.

Then, I let go of him and he fell. The alicorn crashed into a tower which was in front of her, and fell.

I laughed evilly before destroying the tower that the unicorn was in. I heard some ponies gasp and one said, “Twilight!”

Five colorful ponies ran to the destroyed tower, and a rainbow maned one said, “There’s no way that Twilight could’ve survived. Let’s go and get Celestia and Luna.”

The ponies ran out of the Crystal Empire. As soon as they were gone, I put a barrier around the Empire. One that wouldn’t let anypony in or out.

I then said, “Hello Crystal Ponies. It’s been a long time since we last met, hasn’t it?”

My horn glowed, and all the ponies had chains around their hooves and necks. I ordered them, “Start your work slaves.”

One pony was foolish enough to protest. He said, “Never.”

I shot a crystal through his body, and he said no more. I told the rest of them, “Unless you want to end up like him, start your work.”

The ponies, not wanting to be killed hurried and ran to the mines and started mining for crystals. Then, I turned to the castle and Sombra-fied it.

Its original blue color was replaced by black. Out of the destroyed tower, I got the unconscious unicorn and took her inside my castle. Inside, there was a white unicorn with a blue mane.

I dropped the unicorn on the floor, and she opened her eyes. She ran to the white unicorn and hugged him. She asked, “Shiny? What happened?”

The stallion answered, “Sombra took over.”

They continued talking. From their conversation, I assumed that they were related in some way. That would be perfect for my plan. Just perfect.

A glow from my horn and the mare was in chains. The stallion was chained too. I got a sharp crystal and moved it across his throat.

His head fell off and the mare started crying. I grinned and impaled his head on a spear. I called a guard and ordered him, “Put this where everypony could see it.”

The guard hesitated, but I poked him with the crystal and he did what I told him to. He took the body and head and left.

Break down

After the guard left, I walked to the still crying mare and said, “You really are so pathetic. That stallion deserved to die. Why cry over him?”

She cried more and said, “You’re a monster, Sombra. You ARE pathetic.”

“Oh really? I think you need to be broken and mended.”

I looked into her mind to see what she was thinking.

"Shiny..." she whimpered. Warm tears flooding down her cheeks. Memories of watching me ripping her brothers head off his body and impaling it on a spear. She was completely pathetic.

Without waiting for her to say anything, I cast a nightmare spell on her. I put lots of energy into it, so that the nightmare would seem real.

Twilight’s nightmare:

Princess Celestia looked disappointed. "You call yourself my student?" Celestia scoffed as she narrowed her eyes at her. "Hmph. Some pathetic excuse for a student who can't even do one thing right."

"Princess! Please come back! I'm sorry! I'll try harder next time! I promise! Please don't leave me!"

Twilight wailed on the floor. Crying out to somepony who wasn't really there. I grinned and put more energy into the spell. Twilight suddenly screamed.

"No, Princess! Please! Please don't kick me out! I'll try harder! Just give me another chance!"

Celestia narrowed her eyes angrily at Twilight and said, "No more chances, Twilight Sparkle. You are no longer my student! You aren't even close to being worthy enough! I made a mistake choosing you the first day I saw you. You are weak! Useless! You're nothing but a useless filly!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Twilight screamed in despair as tears flowed from her eyes. She shot out her hoof in a desperate attempt to reach for the alicorn that wasn't even there.

Twilight found herself surrounded by her friends and family. Everypony she was close to. They were all giving her hateful and disappointed looks.

"Why, Twily?" Shining Armor asked coldly, "Why did you let me die?"

"I-I didn't think..." Twilight struggled to speak.

"You let my husband be killed by Sombra, Twilight Sparkle." Cadence hissed, "And to think I actually called you my sister-in-law.

"What do you mean, Cadence?"

"What she means it that it was a mistake ever meeting you, Twi!" Rainbow Dash snapped harshly. "All you've ever done was get us into dangerous situations that could kill us!"

"Yeah!" the others agreed in unison.

"Rainbow...Applejack...Rare...Fluttershy...Pinkie..."

"Hmph! You only see me as a slave! You just used me as an excuse to become Princess Celestia's student! Some mother you are!" Spike snapped bitterly.

"That's not true, Spike!" Twilight cried.

"You're a terrible excuse for a student!" Celestia said cruelly. Glaring hatefully at the unicorn. "I am better off with somepony who actually knows how to do things right! Even Derpy Hooves would’ve done better than you. All of Equestria is better off without you!"

Twilight gasped. Did Celestia really say that?

"I wouldn't be dead if you didn't messed things up at the Crystal Empire!" Shining Armor yelled.

"This is all your fault! My husband would still be alive if it weren't for you!" Cadence screeched.

Twilight suddenly felt something hit her. She gasped when she saw Rainbow Dash standing in an attacking position.

"That's for almost getting us killed all the time!" the blue pegasus hissed.

"R-Rainbow..." Twilight felt the tears finally fall. "I-I thought we were best friends..."

"You HAVE no FRIENDS."

"No...NO!" Twilight screamed in denial. "This can't be happening!"

"You see what I mean? I can't have a friend who acts like a lunatic!" Rainbow Dash snapped.

"She's a danger to us and Equestria." Celestia growled. "It's best if we just get rid of her. For our sake." she spoke with no remorse.

"I couldn't agree more." Shining Armor agreed.

"No..." Twilight whispered.

The group started to approach her. All with a deadly look in their eyes.

"No... stop...please...STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!"

End of Twilight’s nightmare.

Listen to me, mare.

I decided that was enough, and ended the nightmare. The mare cried and cried. "See," I told her, "They don't want you. They think you're a mistake. Even Celestia abandoned you."

"Princess Celestia will rescue me!" Twilight said defiantly.

"Sweet little mare." I laughed, "Why would she rescue you? After all, you're a useless filly."

"She will rescue me. Because I am her faithful student!" Twilight said proudly.

"Really? Listen, mare, I could teach you more things than that pathetic excuse for a alicorn ever could."

"Don't you DARE insult the princess like that!" she screamed, "And I will never join you! I would let you kill me in cold blood than betray the princess!"

"Perhaps we have a lot of training ahead of us." I grinned, "Let's see how long it takes for a mare to break."

She slowly got on all fours. "I will never break," she said with a determined look in her eyes, "Princess Celestia will come for me."

"The Princess will never come for you. If your friends can even get the message to her."

"M-my friends will get to her! Princess Celestia and Princess Luna will come and stop you!"

"I have a lot of fun to do with you..." I grinned darkly. "Let us begin session two, then."

My horn glowed with dark magic, and once again, the mare was crying, begging and screaming.

I sat on my throne, watching her, and laughing. It was so easy to regain control of my Empire. Celestia had sent a weak filly, a filly to try and stop me.

It's almost like she wanted me to win. And her student, would become mine. Totally mine.

If a pony sees something again and again, they slowly start to think that it is real. If they see a nightmare of their closest ones betraying them, over and over again, they think that it is real.

And that was what I planned on doing to Twilight Sparkle. She would slowly believe that everypony betrayed her, and when I would be the only one there to comfort her, she would join me. It would take a long time, but it was all worth it in the end.

This time, I kept the nightmare spell on for two full hours. When I stopped it, Twilight couldn't stop crying. I said, "They all hate you. They don't want you. All of them want to see you dead."

"That's not true. They would never want that, ever." She tried to stop crying, "Princess Celestia will come and stop you."

"Oh come on," I laughed, "Celestia thinks you're dead. How long did it take for your friends to abandon you? They only stayed near the destroyed tower for five minutes, before the rainbow one yelled, 'there's no way Twilight could've survived that.' And then all of them left, not even trying to find your body."

"I don't believe you." She weakly said, "P-princess Celes- Celestia will come and save me. She and Princess L-Luna w-will stop you."

And with that, she collapsed on the floor, exhausted. I was determined to break her, so even in her sleep, I would not give her any peace. I made her dreams into a nightmare, one that would scar her permanently.

I whispered into her ear, "One day, Twilight Sparkle, one day you will break. And only I would be able to mend you."

I looked out of the window, and seeing that it was night, decided to get some rest. I dragged the mare to my room, and put her in a cage that was made just for her.

Doing that, I locked the cage and climbed into bed. It was a very soft one, the type that only Kings used. Thinking of the softness of the bed, I shut my eyes and slept.

Daybreaker

Twilight's P.O.V:

After that monster, Sombra threw me into a cage I fell asleep from exhaustion. I hoped that I would wake up, and all of this would've just been a dream.

I shut my eyes and what happened next was the worst thing ever.

I was in Princess Celestia's throne room. Celestia was the only other pony in the room.

She was sitting on her throne, with a disappointed look on her face.

She said, "Twilight Sparkle, I hope you know why I have summoned you here."

I replied, "No, I don't, princess."

"So you even forgot that? Like I said before, even Derpy Hooves would've made a better student. From today, you are no longer my student. Do you hear me?"

"B-but Princess.."

"But what? You are a failure. I trusted you with the task of simply saving the Crystal Empire when I could've sent Luna. And you failed. You are a FAILURE. Get out now."

I held Celestia's hooves. "Princess, please! I-I'll do better next time. Don't throw me out."

"I have NO space for failures such as yourself. There is NO next time, no chance. Sombra has retaken the Crystal Empire as his, and it is all your fault."

I begged, "Princess, please forgive me. Give me another chance!"

But Celestia said coldly, "Out NOW!"

Tears fell down my face as I begged Celestia to forgive me.

She said, "You are pathetic, Twilight Sparkle."

I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, Celestia had transformed.

" P-princess, what happened to you?"

" I am NOT Celestia. I am DAYBREAKER."

'Daybreaker' shot a laser beam at me from her horn and laughed evilly.

I opened my eyes, shaking. I was relieved to see that I was still in the cage and not Celestia's throne room.

I breathed heavily and tried to pull myself together. It was JUST a nightmare. I had to be strong; I couldn't break.

Celestia would come and rescue me.

I kept repeating those words again and again in my head.

Sombra's P.O.V:

I woke and smelt fear in the room. I located it coming from the mare in the cage, Twilight.

I smirked; it seemed like the nightmare that I gave her shook her to her core.

I got out of bed and walked towards her. I taunted her, "Is little Twily scared?"

I laughed as she jumped, hitting her head on the top of the cage. She replied, "You don't DARE call me that, Sombra!"

"Why not, Twily? Brings back too many painful memories for you?"

I laughed again as her eyes filled up with tears. "You're a monster, Sombra! Nothing but a monster!" she shouted.

I replied, "Don't waste my time by telling me things I already know. Had a good dream?"

Her face filled with anger. I continued, "Or a bad dream?"

I tipped my head to the side to add some effect. I gave up the act and told her, "One-day filly, you'll submit to me."

"I am NOT a filly! And I will NEVER submit to you! You tyrant! You beast! You monster!"

I laughed and started the nightmare spell on her. "Let's see how defiant you are after this."

I made the nightmare seem very real; it would scare anypony to death.

By the time I ended the nightmare, she was crying and saying to herself, "I have to be strong. I must be strong."

I sighed, "What's the point in telling yourself that when you know that you are nothing but a weak little filly? A helpless filly? A failure?"

She looked straight into my eyes and screamed, "I am NOT a filly! I am NOT weak! AND I AM NOT A FAILURE!"

I asked, "If you were not weak, helpless, or a failure, then why did you fail Celestia? Tell me."

She fell silent and looked down. I opened her cage and put one of my hooves under her chin.

I whispered into her ears, "Join me and never shall you be weak, helpless, or a failure again. Join me, and I shall give you anything you want."

She defiantly said, "I'll say this a thousand times. I WILL NEVER JOIN YOU! You wait; Celestia will come to rescue me!"

I laughed, "Say what you will filly, but Celestia shall never rescue you. She is too weak to get past my barrier, and why would she waste her magic on a failure like you? One day, you shall submit to me."

I smirked as I started the nightmare spell again and laughed as she cried and begged to somepony who wasn't even there.

Nightmares

Twilight's P.O.V:

I took in deep breaths after Sombra ended the nightmare spell. It was like the nightmare that I had while I was sleeping, but much worse.

This time the nightmare went on to show Celestia turning into Daybreaker, laughing evilly, and killing me.

I tried to put a shield around myself as Sombra's horn started glowing, but that only gave him an idea.

He said, "Now, we can't have you using magic, can we?"

Without waiting for an answer, he took all my magic from me.

I screamed and when he was done drinking, he had grown taller, and his fangs had grown longer and sharper.

I yelled at him, "Give my magic back, you tyrant!"

"I shall not give your magic back. Let's see how strong you are without it."

He came closer to me and messed my mane. I tried to buck him, but I had no strength. I felt weaker than before.

An evil grin on his lips, he said, "I think you need more than just nightmares."

He licked his lips and then sunk his fangs into me. I screamed in pain, but he used his magic to seal my mouth shut.

He began drinking my blood as a vampire would do.

He drank more and more, and he left a little bit of blood, just enough for me to survive.

I fainted.

King Sombra's P.O.V:

After the mare tried and failed to buck me, I got an idea.

I sunk my fangs into her neck to show her that they were not for decoration.

I was a vampire. Her blood did taste good; I hadn't drunk any for a thousand years.

It was so hard to stop, but I knew that I had to or else she would die, and I wouldn't be able to do my plans with her.

I had many plans for this mare. If she used to be Celestia's student and was given the task of saving my Crystal Empire then that meant she was talented with magic.

I looked at her fading cutie mark and saw that it was stars.

And if she was the element of magic, that meant a lot.

My original plan was to torture her, kill her and then send her dead body to Celestia in a gift box wrapped up with string.

But then, I had thought more about it and decided to make her loyal to me.

If I kept torturing her like this, one day the mare would need a push and she would break.

A single word could break her if aimed carefully. This was going to be so much fun.

I put a nightmare into her dreams. It was about Celestia.

I would give her nightmares about the ponies closest to her becoming evil and wanting nothing more than to destroy her.

I did it very carefully and put enough energy into it to make it seem real.

I teleported her into her cage and locked it.

Then, I decided to eat something.

Half an hour later found me in the dining room, eating roast chicken. Unlike other ponies, I was an umbrum and ate meat.

Ponies thought it terrible to eat a living creature. But I didn't.

After eating, I washed my hooves and my muzzle, dried them, and decided to have a walk through the empire.

I put a spell on the castle so that nopony could go in or out. Then, I started my walk.

All my slaves were mining, every restaurant and home was empty.

They had been mining for a whole day now without any rest. But I didn't care; they deserved this fate.

I thought about the mare who had betrayed me, a thousand years ago.

Perhaps Radiant was dead by now. She was lucky. If she had stayed in the Empire and stayed alive, I would've tortured her until she begged for me to kill her.

How I hated her. I still wondered, did she ever become a princess?

I shook my head; she was unworthy to occupy my thoughts. The betrayer.

I so wished that I could find her dead body, just so that I would be able to rip her horn off and add it to my collection of unicorn horns.

All the unicorns in the Empire had their magic drained and horns ripped off by me.

I even had a collection of pegasi wings.

I had put mind-controlling spells on some pegasi and unicorns to be my guards.

I didn't do it on the other ponies.

It was amusing to see the fear in their eyes.

Sunset had happened a long time ago, and I was in my castle, in my room, looking at the miserable mare in front of me.

I decided that nightmare spells weren't enough, and I tortured her physically.

She now had cuts and bruises all over her body. She was flat on the crystal floor.

I looked out the window and saw the Empire starting to turn into a frozen wasteland.

I got an idea. Before my banishment, I had been working on making a dark crystal heart.

I levitated a wooden box towards me and opened it. Inside was what looked like the crystal heart.

I had finished it, but I never had the chance to test it.

I teleported to where the heart used to be and put my dark crystal heart in there.

It spun in its place, taking in all the fear and hatred that was in the Empire.

Then, all the snow disappeared, and the ponies fur lost their colour.

Only my fur stayed its original colour. I grinned as every crystal in the empire became black.

The empire had finally lost all its beauty, love, and hope.

I teleported into my room and looked at the still unconscious mare. My horn glowed and a bucket of ice-cold water fell on her.

She opened her eyes and sat up. Then, she shivered. I decided to give her another nightmare about one of her friends.

I looked into her mind and decided to give her a nightmare about this Spike.

Twilight's nightmare:

Twilight Sparkle stood in her library with Spike. She kept trying to talk to the dragon, but the dragon turned away from her.

She tapped the dragon's shoulder and asked, "Spike, why don't you want to talk to me? Or hear anything I say?"

The dragon turned to face her and roared, "BECAUSE I HATE YOU, TWILIGHT! I HATE YOU! YOU ARE THE WORST PONY IN THE WORLD!"

The mare's expression was of shock. She cried, "Spike, why are you saying all those things?"

The dragon roared, "BECAUSE IT'S TRUE! YOU ONLY USE ME. YOU THINK OF ME AS YOUR SERVANT. YOU ARE A HEARTLESS BASTARD!"

"S-spike. That's not true."

"IT IS!"

End of Twilight's nightmare.

The purple mare couldn't hold her tears in. She let them roll down her face.

She was so weak after going through nightmares. So weak.

I gave her a few minutes of peace, before starting another nightmare.

This time it was about the apple pony.

Twilight's nightmare:

"A-Applejack, what are you saying?"

"What ah'm sayin is that you're the worst friend a pony could ever have."

"H-how could you say that?"

"Oh quit your stutterin. You're pathetic, ya know that? You're a terrible excuse of a pony. Ya aren't even worthy enough ta be the princess' student."

To make it clear, AJ kicked Twilight, hard on the face. Twilight was now bleeding.

The mare raised a hoof to her face, unable to believe that her friend had bucked her. But it was true.

End of Twilight's nightmare.

I ended the nightmare and got an idea. Every month, I would give her a nightmare about her close friends betraying her. That seemed like a good idea.

One month later...

King Sombra's P.O.V:

"Are you ready for this, mare?", I asked as if I cared. I didn't care at all. Without letting her answer, I cast the nightmare spell, and she screamed in horror.

Twilight's nightmare:

In the Everfree forest was Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash. Rainbow was saying, "You know what, Twi? I HATE you."

"What do you mean, Rainbow?"

"You are stupid, and an egghead. All you do is just read books. You don't CARE about ANYPONY and NOPONY cares about YOU."

"Rainbow..."

"Remember that time when we went on a trip together, and Fluttershy was scared? All you did was tell her that we needed to stay on schedule. You didn't even care about her."

"Rainbow, I can explain..."

"No Twi, I've been waiting too long. Say your last words."

"What are you going to"

The unicorn's sentence was cut short as Rainbow Dash threw her off the cliff. Twilight screamed, and splatted on the ground.

End of Twilight's nightmare...

I ended the nightmare, but little Twilight didn't stop screaming. In the end, her screams were so loud that I kicked her hard.

A month later...

I smirked seeing the scared Sparkle. She was very afraid of what she'd see today.

I started the spell and watched.

Twilight's nightmare:

Twilight was in Pinkie pie's shop, trying to talk to the mare. But Pinkie ignored her completely.

Twilight tapped Pinkie's hoof for the 1000th time, and Pinkie ignored her.

Once the mare had finished her work, then she said, "Twilight just go away. I don't want to talk to you now."

"But Pinkie this is important!"

"And so was my sleepover last week."

"What sleepover?"

"The one you never joined."

"But you never had any."

"You never came to them. And that hurt my feelings."

Pinkie took a deep breath before screaming in Twilight's face, "SO YOU BETTER GET OUT OF HERE WHILE YOU CAN!"

Twilight didn't move, so Pinkie got a pan and made the first Twi-cake.

End of Twilight's nightmare.

The mare had a shocked expression on her face. I kicked her to give her more pain. She screamed.

The month after that...

Tiwlghts nightmare:

Twilight was standing still while Fluttershy stayed away from her as if she had some illness.

Twilight asked, "Fluttershy? Why are you standing so far from me?"

"I don't want to talk to you."

"Why not?"

The pegasus didn't answer Twilight question. Instead, she screamed, "I HATE YOU TWILIGHT! I HATE YOU! YOU ARE THE WORST PONY EVER! IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU THAT ANGEL BUNNY IS DEAD! YOU MURDERER!"

Fluttershy turned into Flutterbat and hissed before attacking.

End of Twilight's nightmare.

I laughed, "You are so pathetic."

Next month...

Twilights nightmare:

Twilight was with Rarity. But Rarity didn't seem her usual self. She was busy getting needles.

After getting her needles, Twilight found herself pinned to the wall.

Rarity started throwing the needles into Twilight, and the mare could do nothing but scream in pain.

Twilight asked, "Rarity why are you doing this?"

"Because I'm paying you back."

"For what?"

"You ruined the perfect dress that I had made."

"What dress?"

"Don't act like you don't know."

"But I don't know."

"Quiet."

"Rari-"

Twilight couldn't finish her word because RARITY slapped her hard.

She said, "I HATE you, Twilight Sparkle. I hate you. I don't want to see your face again."

End of Twilight's nightmare.

I asked sarcastically, "Getting some pain?"

While the mare was having the nightmare, I had put needles in her body for real.

She looked at herself and saw the needles. Then she tried to pull them out, but she couldn't. The more she pulled, the deeper they went into her body.

I laughed and said, "Don't pull them or they'll go deep enough to touch your heart."

She stopped at that.

Author's note: I got the idea for the dark crystal heart from a comment by https://www.fimfiction.net/user/388657/Dragoknight92 which was 'More like the Dark Crystal Heart if you ask me'.

This chapter had a lot of nightmares. I wasn't patient enough to write 1000 nightmares, and I wanted to get started on the dark stuff as soon as I could, so I decided to write the nightmares about the mane 5 and Spike hating Twilight.

Valiente Terror

Two years later...night...

King Sombra's P.O.V:

Two years had passed, and this mare was so very close to breaking. I had just finished giving her a nightmare, and she was crying.

She whispered to herself, "Princess Celestia will come for me. I have to be strong."

I said, "That sounds like something a failure would say."

I had gotten her attention. She looked up and asked, "What do you mean?"

I started, "Two years ago, when Celestia sent you to the Crystal Empire, it was as a test, right?"

She nodded, "Yes, it was."

I continued, "And you failed to save both the Crystal Heart and the Empire. You're my prisoner now. You keep telling yourself that Celestia will come to save you, but you know that she can't and won't. What does that make you?"

She whispered, "A failure."

Then, she cried, leaving just one piece of herself unbroken. I got an idea. If I made it real enough, then she would break.

I used all my energy on what could be the final nightmare for Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight's nightmare:

Twilight was surrounded by everypony she loved. Her friends, her parents, her brother, Celestia, and Cadence.

All were looking at her with a disappointed, sad, and angry look on their faces.

Shining Armor began, "Why Twilight? Why did you let Sombra kill me?"

Twilight stuttered, "I-I wanted to save you but-"

"But what?", Cadance asked. "You let Sombra kill me and my husband, Twilight Sparkle. You let Sombra kill us both. I regret that I ever agreed to foalsit you."

"Some friend you are, Twilight.", said Pinkie Pie. "You never came to any of my slumber parties. Ever. Not even a single one."

"Pinkie, I-"

"You what?" asked Rainbow Dash. "You are always so busy with your books, you hardly think about your friends!"

Fluttershy said, "Rainbow's right."

"Ah couldn't agree more.", said Apple Jack.

"She's right. If Twilight loves her books so much, let's see how she can handle this.", said Rarity.

Rarity levitated a pile of books over to her and set them on fire. Twilight screamed, "No! My books! All that information! The knowledge!"

Twilight Velvet said, "I can't believe that I gave birth to such a horrid creature such as yourself, Twilight Sparkle. I should've let you die when you were a foal. It would've been better for all of us."

Night Light agreed with his wife. "You are the worst pony to have even been born."

Celestia said, "I hate the fact that I ever called you my faithful student. Even Sunset Shimmer didn't fail as badly as you did. She made a much better student than yourself, Twilight Sparkle."

Twilight ears bent shut. She sunk to the ground, unable to believe what she was hearing. Celestia couldn't have said that.

Why? Why did everypony hate her so much? The last thing that happened broke her.

Rainbow said, "Get rid of her!"

Fluttershy agreed, "Yeah!"

"For Equestria.", said Rarity.

Celestia said, "For our sake, you are banished from Equestria, Twilight Sparkle. Get out now!"

End of Twilight's nightmare.

I ended the nightmare and whispered into the mare's ear, "They've all abandoned you. They think you're a failure. A mistake. They've all betrayed you when you trusted them. Join me, Twilight Sparkle, and you'll be able to get your revenge on them. You'll be able to show them why they shouldn't betray you. Submit to me Twilight, and you'll show them their mistake."

She sniffled, "Really?"

I said, "Yes."

She wiped her tears and said, "Then I submit to you, King Sombra."

She bowed to me to show that she meant what she had said. I grinned because now Twilight was broken. And only I would be able to mend her.

The part of breaking was done, and now was the start of mending her. I obliterated her chains and asked, "You must be feeling cold, right?"

She nodded, and I put my cape over her. She wrapped it around herself, and I took her to my bed. Then, she fell asleep next to me.

Now that Sparkle had finally broken, I had to make plans. What should I do with her?

A queen sounded like a good idea. Yes, I could make her my queen.

Before that, I'd need to shape her into the very definition of evil. Maybe teaching her dark magic would corrupt her soul enough to make her as evil as myself.

The morning...

When I woke up, Twilight was still sleeping. I woke her up and said, "Today, I'm going to teach you some dark magic."

Her eyes lit up. She asked, "When?"

I said, "If you get out of bed and get ready then we'll be able to start in ten minutes."

She jumped out. "Ok."

***************************************************************

We were in a room in the castle used for magic training. I taught Twilight how to use dark magic, and now she was destroying things by using it.

A crystal statue of Celestia and other ponies that she had known, made by magic was waiting to be destroyed.

Twilight's eyes began to get purple and green smoke around them and she struck the statues, using all the anger she had.

The statues shattered into a thousand pieces once struck. I said, "You're doing very well for a pony who only started using dark magic a few minutes ago."

She smiled, "Thank you, my King."

And then she destroyed the other statues. She practised for the whole day without stopping.

And when midnight had struck, she looked like what could be described as evilly beautiful.

Her originally light purple fur was now a darker shade. Her mane was dark blue and purple with black around the edges.

And her horn had become a bit curved.

I said, "You look much more beautiful now."

She looked at her reflection in a crystal and said, "You're right. But, why have I changed?"

I told her, "Because you used so much dark magic with so much anger, the dark magic has recognized you as a powerful unicorn and has given you a gift. Now, you look evilly beautiful."

"Is it possible for me to change my name?"

"It is."

"Hmm...What should I change it to?"

"How about Valiente Terror?", I suggested.

"It sounds perfect!"

Today I would give Valiente a test. She would have to murder two fillies without any hesitation or remorse.

A trusted guard, Black Fire came with two filles in a cage. One had light purple fur with a purple and white striped mane and was wearing a tiara, while the other had grey fur and a silver mane.

Valiente came and said, "My King, I'm ready for my test."

I said, "Good. Now murder these two fillies for me. And in the most painful way possible."

Valiente's eyes flashed with dark magic and she killed the grey one by crushing her bones with magical pressure.

She laughed and then turned to the purple filly who was screaming.

The filly begged, "Please don't kill me, whoever you are. Don't kill me."

Valiente said, "Why shouldn't I kill you, Diamond Tiara? You are useless. Everypony hates you."

The filly asked, "Twilight Sparkle? I thought you were dead."

Valiente said, "My name is NOT Twilight Sparkle. I am Valiente Terror, and you will remember that. I never died."

The filly started begging, "Twilight, please don't kill me. Have some mercy. This isn't you. That monster Sombra's corrupted your mind. Twilight please!"

Valiente put two of her hooves on the filly's head. She kept putting pressure as she said, "King Sombra is NOT a monster. I was not corrupted, only showed the truth! And I shall kill you, Tiara. I shall. So quit your useless begging!"

Valiente finished her sentence and the filly's head busted from all the pressure. Her blood covered Valiente, but she didn't mind.

Instead, she blasted the rest of the filly's body and her tiara. Black Fire who was still standing there, looked scared.

I ordered him, "Black Fire, collect all the pieces of the bodies and send them to their families in a gift box."

Black Fire flew off to get gift boxes and string. I said to Valiente, "You passes the test. Now, how about I'll teach you some more dark magic?"

Valiente nodded.

In Ponyville, Derpy Hooves delivered gift boxes to both Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon's parents.

When the said ponies opened the boxes, they were shocked to find their dead daughter's destroyed bodies.

Torture

King Sombra’s P.O.V:

I had many tests for Valiente, waiting to be done. I had taught her spells that could kill a pony, both painfully and slowly.

I decided to make her torture, and then kill some ponies. It would be amusing and very enjoyable to watch.

So, that’s why this evening I had Black Fire foalnap some more ponies. I had ordered him to get ten, not more and not less.

If we took too much, then Sunbutt might start a war. And that, was something I didn’t want at all.

Valiente was busy torturing some ponies who had tried to fight against me, and motivate others too.

One had been caught giving out posters that said, ‘Why should we bow to King Sombra, when we can fight? We may not have the magic of a unicorn, but we have each other. We have our own strength.’

Only five had joined him, and they were being tortured by Valiente in the dungeon.

I had personally killed that pony. His name was Check mate. Once he was thrown into the dungeons, I had started torturing him by giving him nightmares, and pain spells.

He had begged several times for me to just get over with it and kill him, but I had kept the torture going until he was nothing more than a shell of a pony.

Then, I had ended his suffering by aiming a crystal spell at his heart. The spell had made a crystal grow through his heart, killing him very painfully.

I would never kill a pony unless it was in the most painful way possible. That's why most called me 'The heartless stallion'.

I did have a heart, but I only showed love to those who I cared for. I made others think that I cared for nopony.

There was a knock on the door, pulling me from my thoughts. I said, "Enter.", and Black Fire entered my throne room with ten chained ponies.

I got off my throne and looked at them. One had yellow fur, a red mane, and a bow. She was an earth pony.

The second had white fur, and a mane which was colored purple and pink. She was a unicorn.

The third's fur was orange, and her mane was colored somewhere between pink and purple.

The fourth...I decided not to think about what they looked like. After all, none of that mattered.

I asked Black Fire, "Do you want to stay and watch, or leave when Valiente starts the torture and killing?"

Black was surprised that I gave him an option. He replied, "I would like to watch the torture, my King."

I was equally surprised by his answer, but said, "Your choice. Now go and call Valiente."

Black left to do as I had told him. Minutes later, he came back followed by Valiente. The two bowed to me, and then Valiente came and asked, "King Sombra. May I know what is required of me?"

I replied, "Those spells that I've been teaching you, the pain and torture ones, I want you to use it on these ten ponies. Torture them for a long time, and then kill them in the most painful way possible. Are you ready?"

Valiente said, "Yes, my King, I am ready to do as you have commanded."

Valiente then removed the blindfolds and chains from the ponies. Then, she cast a spell on the door and windows so that none of them were able to escape.

Black Fire gave the torture table, and Valiente put a colt on it.

After doing the straps, she said, "Rumble, isn't it? Why, it's so good to see you."

The colt opened his eyes which he had shut from fear, and asked, "Twilight? Twilight Sparkle? But you're dead, how can you be here?"

Valiente replied, "I am NOT Twilight Sparkle. I am Valiente Terror. Now, let’s see how loud you can scream."

With that, Valiente cast the pain spell on the colt who screamed at the top of his lungs. But he wasn’t silenced, as both Valiente and I loved hearing ponies scream while they were being tortured.

Valiente then cast the torture spell which was much more powerful than the one of pain.

The colt screamed louder and louder. Valiente got a knife, and using her magic, made small cuts all over the colt’s body.

The other ponies who were forced to watch, were crying and screaming for Valiente to stop. But, all that Valiente did was cast a silencing spell on each of them. Now that she didn’t have to listen to other crying fillies and colts, she started making deeper cuts.

As the knife got covered with blood, Valiente pushed it deeper, earning louder cries from the one she was torturing.

Then, as the pain became too much, the colt started begging, “P-please Twilight, t-this isn’t you. Y-you’re being controlled. Have mercy.”

Valiente laughed manically as she said, “Oh little Rumble. Why would I have mercy on you? I’m not being controlled, I submitted to King Sombra of my own free will. I’m not scared of hurting and killing a little blank-flank colt like yourself. My name is Valiente after all.”

And with that, she started a crystal spell, one that would make crystals grow through the body of the one who it had been cast on.

The colt’s screams could be heard from outside the castle by now, and only the ones within the throne room could hear his final words.

Which were, “T-twilight. H-have mercy.”

And Valiente grew a crystal through the colt’s heart as she said, “Never will I have mercy on anypony. Especially not those ponies who I once called friends. For them will be the most painful death ever. Or maybe I’ll torture them for eternity!”

Then the colt screamed one final scream, before he was killed by the crystal.

Valiente threw the dead colt off the table, and got another one. She took the silencing spell off it, and then as she strapped the colt to the table and said, “Snips? I never liked you anyways. You always needed somepony else to help you.”

With that, the torture was started for the colt. His screams filled the castle, and Valiente smiled showing her fangs which had appeared after she had used lots of dark magic.

Now with the torture spell, the pain of Valiente sinking her fangs into the colt’s hoof was felt by the one she was torturing.

The colt cried and screamed, but it was for nothing. His final words were, “Twilight. T-this isn’t you.”

And the colt died by Valiente pushing a knife through his body. Valiente then threw the colt off the table and got the white furred filly. She said, “Hmm, Sweetiebelle. Now what should I do with you?”

The white filly begged, “Twilight! P-please don’t k-kill me.”

“If you keep calling me Twilight, then I will kill you.”, said Valiente.

“F-fine then. V-Valiente. D-don’t k-kill me. I-I’d do anything!”, said the filly.

“Really, anything?”, asked Valiente.

“Yes, anything!”, replied the filly.

Valiente put the knife down and then walked to me. She whispered, “This filly could be of use to us. She’s the sister of one of the element bearers.”

I told her, “Don’t kill the ones that are connected to the Element Bearers. Just torture them enough to give pain, not to kill. Do you understand?”

“Yes, my King.”, was her reply before she walked back to the filly.

She said to the crying filly, “King Sombra has been kind enough to tell me not to kill you. But, you will be his prisoner.”

The filly nodded accepting, as she wouldn’t die. Then, Valiente tortured her. When she was done, the filly was soaked in blood.

Valiente put her into a cage made out of dark magic, and then locked the door. Then, she got the orange furred one. She said, “Scootaloo. I guess you’ll have to be spared death too.”

Then, she tortured the filly. The filly screamed in pain, and then Valiente stopped.

She put the filly into the cage, and locked it again. Then was the yellow ones turn.

She got the same as the other two. Then Valiente locked the cage, and got the next pony to be tortured.

She strapped the filly onto the torture table, and then started the torture.

The filly screamed as Valiente cut her hoof off. Valiente did the same to the filly’s three remaining hooves.

The filly cried, and Valiente started making cuts with her knife. First small ones, and then deep and long ones.

She then cut the filly’s ears, and the filly screamed. Valiente smiled the smile she had when she got an idea.

She asked Black Fire, “Could you get some salt and lemons?”

Black Fire nodded and flew off to get it. He came back within a minute, with a pot of salt and some lemons in his hooves.

Valiente took the salt and lemons and then put some salt on the filly’s cuts. The filly screamed, as it hurt her.

Valiente cut the filly’s cheek, and she screamed. She screamed even louder when Valiente rubbed a piece of lemon on it

Valiente continued to make cuts on the filly’s face, and covered them with salt. Then started the filly’s begging. “P-please j-just kill me. It- it hurts too much.”

Valiente laughed, “But little filly, it’s supposed to hurt.”

She then started cutting the filly’s wings off. The filly’s screams of pain filled the air.

Once she was done, Valiente started cutting around the filly’s cutie mark.

She ripped it off. Then to end filly’s suffering, she ripped the filly’s heart out. The filly gave a final scream, and then was thrown off the table.

Valiente had killed all the foalnapped ponies in the most painful ways possible. Now was left the question of what to do with my three new prisoners.

I ordered Black Fire, "Take these bodies out of the Empire and then come back. Black Fire did exactly that, and then came.

I told him, "Take those three to the interrogation room. Valiente, clean yourself up."

Black Fire left to do as I had told him while Valiente nodded and went to have a shower.

Author's note: So much torture in this chapter, I quite enjoyed writing it. Valiente shall be heartless in no time! A new P.O.V

Black Fire's P.O.V:

I helped King Sombra, both a thousand years ago, and now. He trusted me the most out of the other ponies, so he had made me the captain of the crystal guard.

When he had first taken over, and declared himself King, and us as his slaves, I was the first to accept.

I had given myself up of my own free will, and had agreed to become his slave.

I had then sworn to serve him until my last breath. And I, like my King had a love for torturing ponies.

The smell and taste of blood were to me, delicious. I was a crystal blooded batpony, which was a very rare type of pony.

I looked like a pegasus, but at will I could change into my true form.

The advantages of being a crystal blooded batpony were that I could hear and see better than other ponies in the dark, and I was stronger and could fly faster than them.

I was currently flying to the Everfree forest to get the information from King Sombra's spy, Shadowlance.

He had light brown fur, and a dark brown mane. He was half pegasus, and half batpony which only I and King Sombra knew.

Shadowlance could transform at will, like myself. As a pegasus, he looked harmless and friendly. But as a batpony, he looked like a devil.

He was an equestrian by birth, but hated Celestia as she was the one who had killed his parents.

Years later, when he grew into a stallion, Celestia didn't recognize him and let him in the solar guard.

I landed quietly, which was a thing only batponies could do, and whispered, "Hey, Shadowlance."

He turned around, ready to fire when I said, "No need to attack. It's me, Black Fire."

Shadowlance put his spear down and said, "You really got me there, Fire."

"I was always good at sneaking up on ponies.", I laughed.

"You sure are, buddy.", he smiled.

"So, what's Sunbutt's plans?", I asked Shadowlance, using the name we made for that Tartarus be damned Celestia.

He smiled and then put a serious face on, signalling business. "She's planning to attack the crystal empire. She believes that her 'student' is waiting for her and is alive."

"I guess I'll need to prepare the guards for an attack then." I asked, "When's the attack going to happen?"

"Somewhere close to the 25th of this month.", he answered.

"That'll be in...", I counted in my mind. "...Two weeks. I think the guards will be more than ready at that time."

"Yeah.", said Shadowlance. "And before you ask, there's nothing that I can do to stop her. Stay safe buddy."

He hugged me, and I did the same. "You too.", I said before flying off.

King Sombra's P.O.V:

I was in the throne room, waiting for Black Fire to return with the news from Shadowlance. I heard a knock and said, "Enter."

Black Fire came in and bowed. "Your majesty.", he said. "I have news from the spy. Sunbutt is planning an attack on the empire, thinking her student is alive. She'll attack somewhere around the 25th of this month, which is in two weeks.", he informed me.

"She'll be in for a surprise then.", I laughed. "Get the guards ready to protect the empire, castle, and my pet."

"Pet?", asked Fire.

"Valiente needs to be trained before I make her my queen. So for now, she's my pet.", I explained and Fire nodded.

"Shall I start training the guards now?", he asked.

"Yes.", I replied, and Fire bowed before leaving.

I decided to teach my pet some new spells.

A spy

Shadowlance's P.O.V:

I was guarding the throne room as it was night. I used to be a solar guard, but became joined the lunar guard as it was better than listening to nobles arguing like school foals. Princess Celestia came and I moved to let her pass.

Once she was in, I used my batpony hearing to listen to what they were saying.

I heard the princess of the night's voice first. She asked, "Celestia? What brings you here at such a late hour?"

The princess of the sun replied, "I have something important to tell you."

"What is it?", asked Luna.

"I believe that Twilight Sparkle is alive.", Celestia told her.

"But it has been two years! And when her friends came, they said that they saw Twilight die in front of them. She was killed after the tower that she was in was destroyed.", said the princess of the night.

"Luna, you can visit anypony's dream in the dream world, am I right?", asked the princess of the sun.

"Yes, you are.", replied Luna.

"Did you find Twilight's dream in there?", asked Celestia.

"No. And what makes you think that she is alive? If I cannot find her in the dream world, then how can you find her in this world?", asked Luna.

"Because Luna, Sombra might have stopped her from dreaming.", explained Celestia.

"But why would he keep her?"

"He might have known that she was my student."

"Are you saying that he-"

"Yes, I am."

"Before we do anything, we should send somepony to the crystal empire to see if Twilight's there."

"Who should we send?"

"It must be somepony who is trained enough for the job."

"How about Flash Sentry? We could send him."

"We could."

"And if she is there?"

"Then we'll attack the empire on the 25th of this month."

After that, I waited for Princess Luna to enter the dream world. And then I left the castle, to tell Black Fire. I flew to the Everfree forest, and waited.

I was waiting when I heard somepony whisper, "Hey, Shadowlance."

I turned around, ready to fire when the pony said, "No need to attack. It's me, Black Fire."

I put my spear down and said, "You really got me there, Fire."

Signed, your spy."

Then I sent a bird with it. The reason that I didn't tell Fire was because he couldn't spend too long here.

King Sombra's P.O.V:

I was in the throne room, waiting for Black Fire to return with the news from Shadowlance. I heard a knock and said, "Enter."

I took the letter off its leg and it flew away. I read, "To King Sombra, the ruler of the Crystal Empire.

I hope all is well for you. Sunbutt is sending a pegasus named Flash Sentry to the empire. He will be sent there to see if Twilight Sparkle is alive. He's a solar guard and does whatever Celestia tells him to.

Signed, your spy."

It was from Shadowlance. I decided that I would take care of this pegasus when he came.

He would live and return to Equestria, but in a very shattered state.

He would return broken. In both mind and body.

"You're getting better everyday, pet. You may rest now.", I smiled.

"Thank you, master.", she replied.

"Do you know somepony named Flash Sentry?", I asked her.

"Yes master, I do.", she replied. I grinned. Now I knew how to break him.

The next day, a pegasus came. Flash Sentry, as it said in the letter.

I let him in, and told Fire to bring him to my castle.

"So, what business do you have here, Sentry?", I asked him.

He looked surprised that I knew his name, and answered, "The princess has sent me here to check if Twilight Sparkle is alive."

"What makes you think that she's alive?", I asked. "How do you know that she's not dead?"

A little fear washed over him, and I grinned.

"The princess thinks that she's alive.", he told me.

"Maybe I'll let you see her.", I said. "Fire, bring Valiente."

Black Fire went and came with Valiente. Sentry saw her, and asked, "Twilight? Is that you?"

"I'm not Twilight.", she told him. "I'm Valiente."

"Twilight, I know it's you. You might have changed. But I can tell that you're still yourself.", he said.

"Twilight's dead. She's gone. She was weak, believing in friendship and things like that.", said Valiente. "It's best that you go now."

"Twilight..."

"Fire, take him out of the empire.", I ordered, and he did as I said.

Shadowlance's P.O.V:

I watched as Flash Sentry stood at the top of the castle, with his wings tied. He said to himself, "If Twilight's gone, then so am I."

And then he jumped off, falling to his death. I waited until he hit the ground, and then checked his pulse.

He had none. He was dead. I took his body to the Everfree forest where some wild beast would devour it.

And then I flew back to the castle after washing my hooves.
